This means that the game is offline from 4pm to 9pm in europe. Good thing no one plays during those hours!

Roughly 2 hours to go now then. That means maybe 2 or 3 episodes of Voyager for me perhaps. Already seen it a thousand times but it's still fun to watch. Call me crazy.

But yeah maybe our devs could provide a little more information than just "Working on the warp core" well here's this: If this "warp core" has breached, we will be alot further away from home.

My guess is Reginald Barclay accidentally dumped the Waste Disposal contents into the Warp Core Intermix Chamber... AGAIN! :P

    Well, he is "Howlin' Mad."

To tell the truth, the only thing that has kept in loyal to this game is the STAR TREK name, but admit it, other than the designs and canon tie-ins, this game has very little to with Star Trek....I mean, when did ANY starship captain have to mine dilithium for a Ferengi? (rhetorical question for those that missed it):D

You made a good point there. Although this game is dealing with quite a list of issues that is yet to be resolved, STO is still the closest thing we have to an MMO representing the Star Trek universe.

So I've played a fair amount of MMO's over the years and am regularly disappointed with the poor customer service provided by Cryptic/PWE. Maintenance problems occur in every MMO but the team here fails miserably in two areas: communication and compensation.

First, communications. Telling us the "warp core" is being worked on is not cute. It's not funny and it's certainly not informative. This lack of information is consistent around here and shows a real lack of professionalism and consumer respect. If you tried to pick up your vehicle from your mechanic and it wasn't done, you would be shocked if he sarcastically told you the gerbils under the hood were still being fed. Hey devs and "community relations" people, how about treating us with a little respect and giving us some actual details as to what the problem is and why it wasn't fixed during the last several maintenance extensions.

Second, why no compensation? Not all of us are free to play, some of us pay for our time here. Other MMO's that had extended down time provided some small compensation just to show that they understood the inconvenience. The compensation costs these companies nothing and is usually just a few freebies but it makes us feel a bit better. If my meal is really late at a restaurant, the waiter might throw in a free drink. In a different MMO, you might get a few free supplies.

Again, back end problems arise. I'm just stunned by how poorly they are handled by Cryptic/PWE.

Just what exactly do you want to know about? You cannot log in for another 2,5 hours. That's about all the information you need now. You have a timeframe. Read a book. watch a movie. Go eat. Meet your girlfriend. A quickie always soothes the boggled neurons. Compensation? I'll send you a thousand dilithium. That's a small compensation, it's worth it for me though, if you stop.

    [...]
I do hope that PW and Cryptic Studios actually improve game play but to be honest, I am hearing more complaints than praises from my fleet mates and those I interact with in-game. It is extremely difficult to maintain morale when the troops are constantly meeting with disappointment. It is my opinion that whoever has final say pertaining to game content, step up your game or players will find a new one. [...]

worst part isn't the people complaining, it's people that don't care any more about to complain, because they're lack of faith that cryptic / PW cares about it and they just go play some other games and leave this one.

currently, i see more and more game mechanics, in the pipe line, for us to spend dilithium, wile ways to earn/ refine dilithium are not extended, on the contrary, old ways got nerfed and even destroyed, and current ways are bugged (example, Dyson ground still awards occasional 5 dil reward for taking a point / killing a Dino Boss)

old stf's get they're difficulty increased to aim for the new gun upgrades possibility, but reward less and not everyone can upgrade all they're alts, which ends up with more work for less pay.

people are not displeased ... they are disappointed to the point of dismay ...

Well, another day that I do not play at all. Oh well. I only get that 1 hour after maint ends on Thursdays and if it runs late, no playing that day.

How about the fact that all of my timed projects (those 20 hr R&D projects, etc) that I normally reset at this time are now expired, but I am unable to replace them... and will not be for practically the entire day, as my real life commitments prevent me from being online at the time that the extended maintenance will result in the game coming back on line (which would obviously have not been the case with the originally posted time, since I am posting this now)?

Add to that the fact that this is the fourth maintenance period in which this has occurred in the last six weeks.

WOW, I have a funeral to attend tomorrow, a real life one, and do you know what? I am just skipping a whole day of game play. I know, crazy huh? that is going to wreck my whole schedule and my crafting school will level up one day late...OOOOOOH, how will I ever go on? How will my life ever go on after missing one day of r&d?

Seriously, of all the things that you could complain about concerning the programming, marketing and content of this game, yet you are complaining about missing playtime and a few server maintenance downtime? It appears from my point of view that you could use with a few lessons in practicing patience. Just an observation;)

Yeah, this kind of stuff cannot be good for the supposed 'metrics'... It also means that my typical hour and a half of play time today is gone... I won't be able to figure out if the 'account-wide discounts' work until tomorrow...

Yes the extended maintenance sucks but I think they did a good job of keeping us in the loop this time. I was able to find information on twitter, launcher and forums about the delay in restoring the servers. It was even posted before the maintenance was extended instead of 20 minutes after the estimated restore time or not at all. For the first time i can remember i did not have to go to neverwinter's media releases to learn of the delays to sto. They are under no obligation to tell anyone what is going wrong with the servers only to relay information about how work is progressing, downtime extensions and expected restoration times. Kudos communication team.

As far as downtime is concerned this is not too bad. Anyone who has played wow in the last 2 months knows that they have had some major issues with 10+hour downtimes, massive mulitple hour wait times to log in, crashes, disconnects, bugs, lack of server capacity that required upgrades, alleged multiple ddos attacks. Granted they just did a massive release but compared to Delta risings launch i'd say they did a poor job given how big blizzard is compared to crytpic. I don't recall my friend who was ranting like mad and having a tantrum because he couldn't get his world of warcrack fix for a day saying anything about being compensated for downtime. I don't understand why people get so worked up about not being able to play a game. Anything I can't get done today can still be done tommorrow or the next time i'm online.

The hamsters have revolted and locked everyone out of the server room

A war has broken out between the hamsters and the tribble server. So far the score stands 50-all, deuces wild, and the racket is noisy. The ump-a-dumpa-lumpa presiding over the war is jumping up and down and swearing worse than John McEnroe ever did.

The servers and hamsters got sucked into the event horizon of a black hole, hence the extended downtime.

    ...being compensated for downtime....

Hey I like this idea. Let's see doing a quick calculation... I bought lifetime 5 years ago.. so an extra 2 hours of downtime equates to... hmmm... .009 USD. I will await my check.

Hmm. Neverwinter extended as well. Didn't realise they ran at the same time for maintenance. And those wanting compensation for downtime? Cheques are in the mail. ;)
If you've come to the forums to complain about the AFK system, it's known to be bugged at the moment.

I believe C.O. NW and STO all share the same server maintance schedules. That could be an indication that they all share the same server:eek:
