I am currently at work. I have lots of work to do. I check the forums maybe two or three times a day. I'm not on the forums constantly.
SO . . . when I post at 6AM, and then go off to work. The fact that I have not posted by 7:17, does not mean I am avoiding a topic, or fuming with rage. It means I'm busy. I will likely come back to that topic later.
However, even when I do, if that topic has erupted into a volcano of 47 pages of TRIBBLE and vinegar, it will take me a while to get through it all.
In the future, if there is a dispute about something I (or any dev) say, can we please leave it at the question, and wait for a response? Please?
Taco, you are grinding out some pretty good respect here.
That's just the point though; what they tell is what they INTEND to happen at the time; they're not promises, and they're not set in stone. Taking them as such as the source of many issues this forum has had with the devs
They say there's the new adv. is going to be as hard as the old elite? Intention to be so, but maybe needs to be worked on to be true
They say there's going to be a Dil reward for maxing out spec points? What they intended at the time, but was clearly changed later, as is their right.
I understand that's what they intend to happen, and what they push to happen, but I also know things can change down the line. I know that new ship I just bought can have it's stats changed, for better or worse, and it is their right to do so. I've accepted that since the game was launched, but many seem to confuse that with what they see their words as.
It's the same thing with movie trailers; they can lie, give the wrong impressions, show scenes that aren't in the final cut, etc - you must keep an open mind and not expect anything is fully set in stone
So the issue is not that they lied (as I see things), but simply a lack of communication, which is not a new issue
It's difficult to know whether to offer them Toilet-paper or a Breath-mint.

As Tacofangs noted, forum participation is only about 3% of player population. So, just because the 'forum majority' is having a cow, doesn't mean the population as a whole is. And the forum is not really a cross-section of players either.
So, that's why Taco pointed out that if you really hate it, you can leave.
When the game changes, you can adapt, or you can quit, or you can complain. I think I know the route many of you have taken.
Normally, yes, but this is an MMO; a business. The rules and meanings of promises are different than the usual
Trek21, Do you remember when we were "lied to" because the Engineering reports had the Ambassador class listed once under the in-development section and then removed 1 or 2 reports thereafter. /sarcasm
Everything in a business is subject to change. Even your grocery store ad says it. Black Friday ads have disclaimers that say availability is subject to change. Change is a fact of life. It has been my observation in almost 39 years that those that refuse or are slow to change have the worst time and the most frustration.
In my case, any content or updates that are released I considered as "planned, but changes could happen." I have NEVER EVER felt like the Devs have lied to me at any point in the 4.25 years I have been here.

Years ago I was a member of the 3COM 3Wizard Technical Council.
This Council was comprised of customers of 3COM from all over the world and included individual end-users to large corporation technical staff members.
3COM would invite us to their headquarters in San Jose, CA. 3 to 4 times a year for 5 days where we would meet with every group/department in their company at 3COM's expense.
The meetings were a totally open discussion without corporate oversight (Non-disclosure agreements were required of course).
During these meetings we were exposed to their current projects and future projects and asked for our honest feedback.
We had access to any and everything they were working on or planning for the future so we could provide what we honestly thought about the project or plan.
We had in-depth meetings with engineering, marketing, sales, customer service, IT, and all other groups in 3COM for approx. 10 to 12 hours each day for 4 days.
We learned what they were building and what they were thinking about building or offering as products or services.
We then discussed what we had seen and heard during the day each night back at the hotel and what we thought about it between us.
The final day we had a meeting with the CEO and his Executive staff where we would present our findings.
We gave them our honest opinion of what we saw and what we thought were overlapping projects, plans that should not be pursued, and why we came to the conclusions we did.
In turn the CEO and his staff asked us honest questions about why we felt that way. They did not always act on our findings, but they always asked for and respected our opinions.
Is there anyway the Cryptic can setup a venue (online or in-person) where this kind of two-way open communication between the STO team and the customer/playerbase can take place?
I understand that this has to be limited in the number of customers/players to make it work, but I do believe that this is something that will benefit Cryptic greatly and us your customers.
In the future, if there is a dispute about something I (or any dev) say, can we please leave it at the question, and wait for a response? Please?
Thanks for being frank with us.
What I REALLY want is to have Stephen D'Angelo to come out on a regular basis, monthly, and make a "State of the Game" statement. All I really want is to have reassurances; acknowledgment that there they know that the player-base is concerned, that are issues and that there are plans.
I cannot say that there will not be any torches and pitchforks, but SOME acknowledgment I believe would help foster some confidence.
Is Stephen willing to at least do this?

^Exactly the point I was trying to make
But many see the words the devs say as proof that it is happening, must happen, then when it doesn't (if it doesn't at all, or not the way they expected), blame them for it when no blame was needed in the first place (at least in regards to the changes themselves)

Im sorry, but this is just wrong. Why not take some time to reflect? start by going to the Dev tracker and looking at the many threads Taco has posted in, look at the volume of his posts, undertsand that many of those posts fall outside of his company working hours, many of those posts fall outside of his department, trying to say he doesn't care is like painting milk green and eating sundust. Then I suggest having a little trawl through Iconians posts, whether you agree with all the content or not, it IS always worded in the most professional, to the point manner, with proper referencing included as needed, I think you would really benefit using that as a guideline. In terms of a personal attack, and make no mistake that is what you are doing, you could not have picked 2 worse forum posters, just my opinion, but I'd put real world money on it that many would agree with me. Please go back to your 1st post in this thread, re-read all your comments from that point onwards, and take the time to look at the replies with a calm, objective attitude. We all get it wrong sometimes, but, I'm always willing to go back with a calm eye, and put my hand up and make amends.
That wasnt directed at Taco, was at Iconians. Read his posts above. Context is important.

If those statements are gonna be like "Delta Rising is our greatest expansion ever. And the people love it!", then he need not bother, fas as I'm concerned.

As far as I saw though, that was just a PR statement, which are intended to be as positive as possible, glossing over the reality - a commonplace thing in that department

LoL it was an advertisement of sorts geared towards social media.
I dont know what else could have been said. He was not addressing the community he was posting a sentance on a social media page for potential customers to read along with a link to the game etc.
Nitpicking is a time-honored tradition of science fiction. Asking your readers not to worry about the "little things" is like asking a dog not to sniff at people's crotches. If there's something that appears to violate natural laws, then you can expect someone's going to point it out. That's just the way things are.

Oh goodie, another cheerleader recruit, pray tell where in the game is your happy majority?
Not in ques, not in social zones and Delta Quadrant isn't really packed, so since population as a whole is polar opposite of the forumgoers, where are they?

I think he would be smart enough that we wouldn't buy it at this point.

Oh really and here I was thinking it is a blatant lie, then again you would lap it up anyways.
Listening to types of your ilk is like discussing the prohibition with the town drunk.
Granted. It just seems very odd that Taco is taking in most of the bullets and his comrades sit back and do nothing. It says a lot for Taco (willing to take the bullet) and not a lot for others behind the stage. I actually feel bad for Taco.:(
That's the intended reaction, as he is most popular of devs and does shielding very well.
Now wait for the next bomb to drop, courtesy of Cryptic and nicely packaged up by Taco.

It's not as clear-cut as saying one thing, then it not coming true for whatever reason makes it a lie on principle. I find that to be a reality
Been playing STO since Open Beta, and have never regarded anything as worse than 'meh', if only due to personal standards.
Yeah, I thought about that, but then I remembered the forums are not smart enough to comprehend the difference between the two
If they did Taco would not have to constantly remind people of his Job.

LOLz ! calling Meimeitoo a "Cryptic apologist" is hilarious and has no basis in historical fact.
That would be really awesome and convenient.
I wouldn't bet on that, one thing is also blatantly clear - Cryptic can get away with murder and that will be supported by a segment of the community.
Also kindly note how everyone is tiptoeing around PR, "best expansion ever" is in the effect and all this on the forums is crowd control.
That depends entirely on who they targeted.
