so your letting us keep our gear but not our ships? why didnt you just do this with upgrading ships to let people have their tier 6 current ships?
Well there isn't much gear that actually costs zen, so that has it's own logic to it. Considering the massive firestorm that the Tier 6 has caused, charging zen to upgrade the items would've been absolute suuicide. In addition there are vastly more items and equipment than there are ships.
"Rise like Lions after slumber, In unvanquishable number, Shake your chains to earth like dew, Which in sleep had fallen on you-Ye are many they are few"
Looks really neat, and I'm glad to finally be able to upgrade items as we see fit. Really helps for those of us that use and/or enjoy some of the "low end-game" mission reward gear. Mk XIV Numiri Regenerative shield wooo.
That being said, will items such as Lobi consoles and weapons (which are technically level-scaling) and unique ship weapons (such as the Phaser/Disruptor/Plasma Quad Cannons, the Kumari Phaser Wing Cannons, and the Regent-class' Wide-Angle Quantum Torpedo Launcher) be able to be upgraded as well?
This is one of the tedious systems in Neverwinter. It makes the crafting system look simply. Guarantee that those superiors will have a horrible success rate which will include a dilithium cost beyond what you can refine in a day and a mandatory catalyst.
if you look closely you will see in the picture they are in fact using a superior upgrade, and you will also notice how that acellerator slotted includes (optional) in brackets
EDIT: I know that is a superior because i have crafted them on tribble, also it has a VR shader on it, which is only on the superior ones
I don't dare to ask how time consuming and expensive this system will be but i admit that sounds interesting. And if crafted items could be account bound, that will be awesome (too bad it is player suggestion i saw a few posts back and not mentioned in the blog)
PLEASE make any item that is upgraded account bound at the very least. Thank you!!!
Umm, this will not happen... An item that is Character Bound is usually Character Bound for a reason - ie Rep Gear or unique special rewards - they're not suddenly gonna unlock it and make it transferable across your entire account...
On a different note :
Any idea if upgrading Reputation gear allows set bonuses to remain between different Mks - and I guess even different qualities?
I know it's not been possible to date, but it was for the free set from A Step Between Stars, if you did it at lower levels (I still have a character running lower Mk engines, yet still has the 3 set bonus)... I was hoping this was a 'prototype' for the upgrade system to keep set functionality while upgrading them...
If this is not possible, this is something that REALLY should be looked at as it makes the prospect of upgrading equipment far less desirable...
I understand it's only a short-term inconvenience really (provided quality at least does not break set bonuses) as you upgrade each item through each Mk, but still, if it's only a minor improvement it may be less hassle simply not upgrading, if you lose set bonuses temporarily, during the process...
I do have questions related to the more special kind of items, specially mission ones and lobi.
1) Does this mean the Jem'Hadar set will be taken off the lobi store?
2) For specialty sets like the Jem'hadar and the Breen set will the set bonuses improve like Anti-Proton sweep, or in the case of the Breen set, will you do changes to improve it if the quality improves? (I expect more than a 2 minute CD Energy Siphon 1 on a VR 3 piece set in the case of the Breen set. Because it's simply Energy Siphon 1 tied to a set, it's pretty underwhelming as a 3 piece bonus)
3) For weapons like the Dominion Polaron weapons, does this give a chance to get them to MK XIV and with an [Acc]x2 mod? (This would be very very awesome)
I forgot one:
4) If I upgrade lets say a Phaser Beam Array MK XII [Dmg]x2, when it upgrades, could it become a Phaser Beam Array MK XIII [Acc]x2, or are the existing mods fixed?

the dil cost is looking a bit brutal, but they could make the upgrade costs like EC values, where the shields and deflectors are higher than guns
The pointless item level upgrade. That, of course, will cost dilithium, AND requires what is likely to be as unbearably long to get up without spending insane amounts of dilithium consumable item. (Been crafting from day 1, still haven't reached Lvl 13 in it). People complained in the past of power creep, this is just going to be another level of it, as those with low to no Dil won't be able to upgrade their rep gear they grinded for days to get, while the rich **** get to upgrade their gear pretty much instantly, meaning they have a DISTINCT advantage (Mk XII white is better than Mk X purple for example) for quite a while.
I hoped DR would just be a case of convert my (small) dil stockpile to zen, buy T5-U ships and then grind to 60 whenever I could be bothered, but no, now it's "Buy that T5-U, grind to 60, then spend a ton of time and dil upgrading all my items to mk XIV (let's say it's about 20 items per ship) with each item taking say about 6 hours to upgrade, that is going to take an eternity, and that's just 1 character.
No amount of story content can hide the fact that DR is going to be one huge grind, just to get your ship back to the equivilant spec it was before.
If you can't solve it logically, solve it like a moron.
51 + 1 Foundry Character Slots is NOT enough. Some of us love our characters. If I want to buy more character slots, why can't I? I couldn't experience the entire Delta Recruitment event without deleting a character.
The Iconians themselves can't time travel because their memories revert, but there is nothing to say an Iconian couldn't write everything she needed to do on a PADD, pin it to herself, travel back, read the PADD, do the tasks and return. Or just get one of her Non-Herald underlings to go back in time for her.
Oh yeah, I do Foundry missions for both KDFs and Feds. Just search KSTF (Short for Kinas Special Task Force, where Kinas is the name of the Admiral you will be serving under). The earlier ones are less story based and more combat based, while the later ones have a much heavier story element, but keep the large battles.
Again - you know normally I TRIBBLE and moan about what Cryptic has done/is doing, but this is impressive. In a good way. I've been holding off all purchases until this was cleared up - and now that it has been cleared up, I'm a little more confident that investments will not have gone to waste.
Yeah it's another grind...I'm beginning to just accept that from STO, but still - this seem like a good change - far more forgiving than I suppose what *could've* happened.
Another question; how will upgrades affect set bonuses, a deflector Mk12 but a shield Mk13, or a Very Rare shield but you crit and end up with an Ultra Rare engine?
Makes me wonder if we will have those TOS klingon disruptor pistols at an end game level of usage lol. Since the fleet ones look nothing like klingon ones and look more like sniper rifles than pistols lol.
Will the Fleet stores (or any other NPCs/In game stores/Game drops in Delta Quadrant Level 50+ content encounters) have MkXIV items available for sale/drop, or will the Upgrade System" be the only way to get MkXIV items?
I ask because if it is the case that the "Upgrade System" is the one and only way to MkXIV gear, you guys just took 'double dipping' to a whole new level.

Good question. Are we going to lose set bonuses until we've finished upgrading every piece of the set?

oh really? i never bought MK XII gear with assurance it would remain endgame, now cryptic is offering me a path to make that gear better
Interesting, I like that we won;t have to buy a new item all over again
No, but the cost to upgrade it will be roughly the same as just buying it new.

This seems like a fairly logical system for upgrading your equipment. Plus the fact that you can upgrade pretty much any item to any level you want means there's a whole lot more flexibility than their currently is with equipment.
Also it's going to be a huge dilithium sink so that should hopefully bring the exchange back under control.
I could see it getting expensive to upgrade every piece of kit you might use so it's going to result in careful planning for a specific builds that you are aiming for.
Comments
It may be a dilithium sink, but it's one I can sink my teeth into.
Well Cryptic apparently put a lot of man power and resources into Neverwinter and it looks like they used it as a proving ground for STO mechanics.
Maybe that's why they aren't listening to a lot of the feedback here. They already got what they felt was all the feedback there.
Is the NW crowd more forgiving than the STO crowd? But that's planned in the next addition to the new crafting system.

Please enable us to buy a token with Zen to faction change a 25th Century FED to a TOS FED.

Know the difference
It could save your life...
in my opinion, devs lack of original ideas: welcome in Star Grind
I'll have to grind dilith to get upgrade tokens for my current ships
I'll have to grind dilith to upgrade ALL my consoles
I'll have to grind to get T6 ships
I'll have to grind...........
I dont mind grinding, its just gonna take WAY too long, like another century long
Its eithier make them faster, or RAISE the dilith cap
Question, Lobi consoles, will they be able to be upgraded to Epic or Ultra Rare???
The fact that there is also that funny gambling for success stuff again, I'm less than enthusiastic about this.
ive had the same thought, when i was F2P with 3 toons, i still found it fairly easy to rake in dil......

Don't see any mention of 'grind' in there.

Yeah, or my Mk II Chronodynamic Armor...
I see NO reason why they should NOT be allowed.

Guessing it might be a bug on tribble?
i doubt it, the newer sets work with varying marks from what i know
