Wow, so now not only are you telling people how to have fun, you are demanding they conform to garbage rules so you don't have to cry anymore? Fun and Fair indeed. Let's all play basketball, but only if you are under 5'2", and only if you wear Converse high-tops with white socks (not black or blue). Have fun playing with yourself.
He hasn't told you how to skin your ship... or what colour weapons you have to load. That is ten analogy you are making.
The vPvP rules are more akin to Sports rules.
If you want to play in the NBA YES you have to play on an official sized court. Yes you have to wear approved footwear (you can't wear cleats ect)... Your teams court has to have the proper height on the hoops ect.
In sports that aren't so pansy like say hockey... you have to wear regulation pads / use sticks that aren't over curved or to heavy or to light. You must wear regulation skates... ect ect.
Why do the sports bodies make those rules do you think ? There are better sticks on the market there are better pads... you can get skates that would get you kicked out of the NHL, still they will make you a bit faster.
Sports leagues set rules all the time in the name of balance. If a league of players wants to get together and create a set of rules. What is it to you.
If you don't like the rules you don't have to play in there league.
good luck with that; specializations can't be disabled, so unless you intend to ban anyone above 50 from playing
tough luck, deal with it
Most people converted a doffing alt into a vpvp char as the gear requirement is just go buy some stuff from the exchange and get to pewing.
Going above 50, you gain no more points on the current skill tree and while correct you can't unset a spec tree, if you don't put any points into it in the first place, it's a trivial problem. I don't think many people use their main pvp characters for vpvp, so this shouldn't be an issue. Going over 50 is just numerical at this point. Literally everything on the spec tree has a constant buff icon or a when proc'ing icon...it's obvious if someone does/doesn't have the new big spec skills. None of the ships run in vpvp will have mastery, so yeah...
Unless I'm wrong, and feel free to correct me if so, there is no you are x levels lower than a target so acc/dmg/etc suffer. Also, private queues don't care about level. Delta Rising really isn't going to interfere with vpvp.
blah blah blah I like to speak so people will listen to me.
As usual you miss the point. Last I checked your height was not regulated by the NBA. Regardless, it was meant to showcase the absurdity of the rules. Hence the "requirement" that you can't level up your character because the new traits (which again are built into the game and cannot be discarded) and abilities are "unfair".
And to the nobody panda.....is that why your channel is ded? Or am I being so overwhelmed by the multitude of matches that I just missed them all? anywho... shhhh players conversing.

You seem to be in a lovely mood.
I was simply pointing out your analogy was way off. Yes in many "games" because sports are games. Rules are made by bodies of players. In the pro league stuff like the NBA / NHL what have you yes they make plenty of rules about allowed equipment. Its equipment that is the main issue. Your right for sure when they started there vPvP it was easy to deselect things like personal and rep traits... now that is going to be more difficult for sure.
It is true however that most people that do the vPvP stuff have been doing it on forgoten alts that often have little or no rep anyway. Most long time players have forgotten alts that are perfect for such a league. For newer players that perhaps only have a handful of toons though... ya the new changes are going to make things difficult. Leaving toons at a specific point of 50 is going to be a pain. They may have to relook at the rules and try to update some stuff to make it easier for more poeple to easily play .
As far as a channel being dead... man its a day before a major update everyone is grinding or doing something else. PvP in general is dead right now and will be for some time as people play new content and level.
/post done... let me go back and reread that I love reading my stuff outloud.
And to the nobody panda.....is that why your channel is ded? Or am I being so overwhelmed by the multitude of matches that I just missed them all? anywho... shhhh players conversing.
Are you in VPvP? If you are, I fail to see why you are. If you are not, then why are you even here? Either way, you're close to getting yourself moderated for thread derailment.
Antoniosalieri explained it very well. I'm not telling anyone how to have fun. I have simply said to the public PvP crowd, "Hey guys, anyone want to have fun PvPing this way?" and around 100 people have so far responded, "Yeah, I want to have fun this way!" Do you think I somehow have the magical ability to chain them to VPvP and force them to play under the rules? No, I don't.
If people weren't having fun with this, then why are people still playing it? Because... maybe... could it be... they're having fun. Yes, DR is gonna be difficult, especially on those who don't yet have a dedicated alt, but I can't do anything about it. VPvP members told me what they're willing to do, so I made it so to retain the fun playstyle they love.
Now unless you have a legitimate, valid point to bring to the table, stop the thread derailment.
Starship traits/Captain specializations are banned in VPvP. Welcome to Dilithium Rising!
Oh no...
This changes things. All of my VPvP toons are also PvP toons, a kdf vaper and a Fed Sci on a Vesta.
I hope the Devs make these like traits, slottable.
In the meantime I won't be around in VPvP, unfortunately

Its a good rule. I have 5 vpvp toons and i will not level them.
is it possible to level up without using specializations?

Some people mentioned kerrat is disabled on tribble after VA, but that could mean anything, even being meaningless. It's just tribble.
I just means Cryptic wasn't in a rush to touch kerrats code to add another level so they just disabled it all seeing as they wanted people testing delta content anyway. I wouldn't worry unless you log into live later today and its gone. lol
I LOVE this idea. PvP as it stands is completely stupid from my perspective. I understand that it's good to have an arena where the arms race is free to maximize, but not everyone can make STO a full time job just to develop a ship to survive PvP.
I have a heavy escort carrier. Mk XIII cannons. Omega rep upgrades. And I get taken out in a single shot in PvP, while I have never been able to do even 1% damage to these ships flying around at evasive maneuvers speed and somehow get to stay at that speed.
The main aspect of PvP is to pit human minds against each other. I am very glad and thankful that someone finally decided to do something about it, where we can build spec ships that are on equal footing and maybe actually have some FUN. This is a game, right?

thats not gear fault. I agree that pvp is an arms race right know, but your problem, at glance, is not the gear

Everyone's been through that part i can get you a vpvp invite if you want.
(if what you said above is right, you seem to have met my escort :P :P)

I suspected as much. I have very little gaming experience and have had to figure out everything on my own, and I'm certain there are numerous types of character upgrades that I'm not even aware of.
I know banning captain specializations is going to be tough, but I don't have an alternative. I just can't in any good faith to the channel philosophy allow them.
4 years ago when I started PvPing there was no guide other than the experience and knowledge of others. This is my first MMO.
Certain abilities like Tac Team are invaluable. But no where in the game does it say so. People had to figure it out. I was doubtful myself when someone first told me to run 2 copies of TT. I looked at the description and was like...but it sucks!
Meanwhile nearly all of my builds have ran it since.
I used to only activate Emergency Power to Shields after I got attacked. Now it's up before I get attacked. It works way better that way.
There's so much more too.
A little knowledge and experience go a long way in PvP in STO.
We might need to review the no 51-60 spec traits bit, as otherwise doing any PvE is out - I just did a normal run of Empire defence and it took my Klingon tac halfway to 51 on its own, even just doffing is going to be a major issue...

If you wish to participate in VPVP , you'll be doing it on his turf .
don't try to sink the entire game by encouraging people to not participate in content that was designed to help starship captains.
a) Even if the whole PVP community (which numbers sadly at several hundred at best at this point) would stop playing , the game would not sink because of them (IMHO) .
b) Most if not all players in VPVP are using an Alt. toon to play VPVP , and not their main toon , thus discussions of limiting said toons (by what ever means discussed) does not imply that all players must now abandon PVE for good .
By your low forum post count I can imagine that you might be a new (or newer) player , thus you might not be aware of the above .
In addition , the issues with the Starship Mastery traits and other power creeps that may come with DR have yet to be discussed as we have waited for those changes to go live and experience them to see how they will affect VPVP .
In the coming days / weeks these issues will be discussed and a policy will be decided upon .
You (or I or anyone else) may share their thoughts on the matter until then .
I cant get on right now, server not responding issues, but Ill resend once I can.
FYI there is a limit to 20 channels that a player can joint .
I ran into this when trying to join SFB , and it took me several weeks & 1 freak accident to figure that one out .
I know banning captain specializations is going to be tough, but I don't have an alternative. I just can't in any good faith to the channel philosophy allow them.
So how do you figure to eliminate this ?
Ppl apperantly get points and they level .
Are you thinking of doing this by not slotting / choosing the specializations ?
Is that even possible ?
And can something like that be monitored ?

I don't think it can be. The fact that these can't be turned off is my biggest dislike of them. So faced with two bad options, I picked the better one, not allowing stuff that undermined the channel philosophy.
