Yeah, if upgrading to T5U still can't get you a fifth ship level and that extra bridge officer ability, it seems like there's still a vast gulf in competitiveness. I would have liked to see the upgrade allow you to access both of those abilities, even if specialist bridge officer seating remains a perk limited to the Tron-lookin' jobbies. The extra bridge officer ability in particular is a deal-breaker and feels a lot like the difference between a T4 ship and a T5 ship, and I feel like upgraded T5 ships need the same boff seating to be competitive.
2409 ships like the Regent, Sao Paulo and Odyssey capture the feel of Star Trek despite being non-canon. The new ships just don't appeal to me aesthetically, namely because of the Tron lines and odd-looking knifelike quad nacelles.

Beta, LTA, CE, Multiple preorder Versions, all Addon Packs except AoY, nearly all KDF/Rom and ~50% of all Fedships, over 25 LockboxShips, Endurer of Atari's "Year of Hell", but...
So we get HP, an additional console slot and 4 out of 5 mastery levels, but none of the rest.
Bout what I figured.

First, I'd like to say thank you for finally releasing this information. It's nice to have some answers at long last, and I'm fine with some of the cost details still TBD.
I am extremely disappointed with the benefit comparison between T5-U ships and T6. I find it hard to believe that T5-U ships will truly be "competitive" with less ship mastery levels, being locked out of the ship trait, and less Boff abilities. The T6 can keep the specialist Boff seating, that's fine, but the T5-Us should be fully upgradeable to equal ability minus the specialist. Lord knows my Fleet Galaxy-X could have really benefited from that Lt. Tac getting bumped up to a LtC Tac. (which it should have had from the beginning).
Also disappointing is that existing lockbox and lobi ships will be updated for no cost. I feel this is discriminating against those players who fly faction appropriate ships. Existing lockbox and lobi ships should be subject to the same upgrade costs that fleet/c-store ships have to face. Anything bought with lobi, or opened from a lockbox AFTER DR goes live should come with the upgrades already installed.
I strongly urge the powers that be to seriously take another look at the T5-U benefit gap and take measures to reduce it. I have no problem purchasing an upgrade token for my existing line of fleet ships, but I'd like them to truly be competitive.
Again, thank you for releasing this information.
Cheers,
Thank you for the T6 Galaxy Class. - I support Tovan Khev. - Please bring back the exploration missions.
Wouldn't disagree, but imo narrowing the gap just a little more would work for me.
Doesn't have to be closed, just a little less wide.
I'd just be happy with getting the starship trait, myself. As I mentioned in an earlier post. These are supposed to be our ships like the Enterprise, Voyager and Defiant. They're supposed to be part of our story so T5-Us should be able to have a unique, specialized starship trait that sets them apart from the pack just as much as T6s if that's what we choose.
"Q: How much Zen will it cost to upgrade my starship?
A: We have not finalized the cost, but it is likely to be somewhere between $5 and $10."
haha upgrading ship that is far more inferior to T6 for 5-10$. Well this is bad call if you ask me. Some ppl have lots of c store variants so costs going to 100$+... bad call cryptic bad call.

That's about the price of upgrading to the Fleet ships, what did you expect?
Not getting the extra bridge officer slot in particular feels like it will hurt. We've seen in the existing tier progression how important more bridge officer slots are in adding to the power and versatility of a ship.
I would have liked to see T5Us get the boff seat and the full level progression and ship trait, while specialist seating remains the domain of the T6 ships.

I don't see the "ship Trait" as that big a deal. It does not appear to be an extra slot just a unique ability that can take one of the 4 slots. You still get 4 slots.
I usually pay for the ship first, most people do, then buy a ship module to upgrade. So I usually end up paying $30 for a fleet ship. With that in mind, I'd like to say that Fleet Ships cost enough money already and are on par with Lockbox ships, lobi ships, and special promotion ones and should be included in the free T5-U upgrade list, or in the least should be only $2.50 (250 ZEN) for an upgrade... Non-fleet C-Store ships should have 2 options with the T5-U upgrade, that is, Upgrade to T5-U and Fleet Version, and it has the upgraded stats for either $25 dollars (2500 ZEN) equivalent to 4 fleet ship modules and $5 upgrade to T5-U. Another possible option is Upgrade to T5-U for the $5 standard that would make sense because its stats aren't on par with Lockbox, lobi, and special promotion ships, if they are the non-fleet version.
So it is exactly like the current Fleet ship system, you get an upgraded version for owning the original at a small zen cost, but it is an account wide unlock unlike Fleet ships. I fail to see how this is not a big improvement.
Question: for ships like the D'Kyr will they get TWO new consoles and double the stats boost?
My biggest concern is that extra Boff seat we won't get. While we don't know what the specialist skills will be, seems like a bit of a nerf for T5-U ships to be honest.

A notable benefit of upgrading a Tier 5 ship is that the upgrade is available across your entire account.
Example: If I upgrade my Avenger Battlecruiser on my Starfleet tactical captain, I can upgrade an Avenger Battlecruiser from T5 to T5-U on any character that also owns this ship for free.
This Upgrade Purchase is going to be before or after we claim a ship?
And is this upgrade permanent? Or this upgrade is only for ships throughout the account that's already been claimed?
(For an example: I got Avengers on two of my Federation characters, but not on my Federation Science character. I go to upgrade, and my two Federation characters Avengers get upgraded. But I go to claim the Avenger on my Science character, will it be T5 or T5U?)
Starship Mastery levels 4 5
Starship Trait No Yes
Additional BOFF ability No Yes
Additional Sp BOFF No Yes
If we are paying for upgrades, I think we should at least get a better deal than this.
As for the ship upgrades not being competitive... I think we just need to wait and see. Cryptic has said t5 ships will remain competitive and I believe it. The ships are the bread and butter of this game and it isn't something they want to TRIBBLE up. I haven't missed out on the lockbox shines and I don't see t6 as anything different.
Cryptic has just released what features T5-U ships will have and which they will have not, why don't you believe them now?
They're traits. All you probably have to do it grind them up on the tier 6 ships, then you'll be able to use them on any ship.
So you "probably" have to pay for an upgrade to your T5 ship. Then you will "probably" buy a superior T6 ship that will be far more expensive, "probably" play in it until you have the trait and then "probably" return to your inferior T5-U ship to use the trait on it.
Its not a band aid its a life support for people that don't want to move along to the next tier of ships. Get on the bus or have it run you over.
Something that gets you slaughtered in PvP is not life support.

Hope the additional costs of fleet ships vs the regular cstore variants are considered and the upgrade fee accordingly lower.
Me too. This is what I want to see an answer for as soon as possible. Will the game know that I have upgraded a Fleet Avenger on Captain A when I get a Fleet Avenger on Captain B.

Not $10. Not in between $5 and $10.
Because it's double dipping (and in case of fleet ships, triple-dipping).

T5-U missing an additional BO ability is a huge letdown, hardly would call that "a few bells and whistles".

Or they count as the same ship for upgrade fees.
im hoping hoping hoping that they are supposed to be full T6.......
Kudos to cryptic for giving lockbox and vet ships free upgrades, but unless they are full T6....they are kinda left behind
I had a bad feeling and now it's justified. Cryptic is ripping us off.
