    Yeah, but whats the price of a T6 ship? That isn't a very good frame of reference.

    SO all my ships I paid REAL money for are going to be obsolete unless I PAY more REAL Money?....guess I'm done with STO.

    For the 'Upgrade Item,' since it sounds like y'all haven't decided on the exact method, why not just use Fleet Ship Modules since they're already in the game and serve basically the same function? Would certainly simplify things.

    So fleet ship which should been tier 6 in first place but where not because there was no tier 6 are going to cost more money to upgrade. Fleet should be included in lock box and lobi ship list.

    yeah so gamble away but all the ships I bought and I have most of the T5 ships for all 3 factions are obsolete

    Only the most challenging new level 60 content will strongly benefit from using an upgraded Tier 5 starship or a Tier 6 starship, however it will not strictly require it.

    so its T5u or T6 or GTFO.:mad:

    i like what i read :), xcept we gotta repurchase ships to get upgraded. i really hope it's only like 500 zen max per ship, just like c-store -> fleet ships.
    is there a discount for upgrades if you own both versions (c-store and fleet-version), just as with fleet ships if you own the c-store version?

    and i really hope those special-boff-seating ships are VERY specialized. otherwise they gonna rule the game lol.

    Nice with the free upgrades for specific ships, but WHY THE HELL should i ever be interested in lockbox ships again if these are vastly inferior to Tier 6 Ships?
    Beta, LTA, CE, Multiple preorder Versions, all Addon Packs except AoY, nearly all KDF/Rom and ~50% of all Fedships, over 25 LockboxShips, Endurer of Atari's "Year of Hell", but...
    unfortunately:

    Devils advocate here, but it sounds reasonable. The tier 6 ships will probably be $30+ in the store, so paying $5 to upgrade your $25 ship to be roughly on par with a tier 6 vessel seems fair. And, if not, you are missing out on some HP and a few passives. No biggie.

    I will now get out of the way of the flaming about to commence.

    Gotta say, I'd prefer to hear that the fleet ship that required fleet modules would be free to upgrade.

    Can I ask the details behind fleet ships?

    Fleet ships are already upgraded tier 5 ships.

    So will fleet ships gain more bonuses from the upgrade than non-fleet versions?

    Or will they cost less to upgrade, as they already cost fleet modules?
    Let us wear Swimsuits on Foundry maps or bridges please! I would pay zen for that.

    Now that that's out of the way....

    I was kind of hoping this post would reveal what the ship getting launched tomorrow is. Other than that? I'm a bit disappointed that the T5U ships won't be getting the fun shinies that the T6 ships will be getting. I guess we'll have no choice but to spend more money to get the shinies.

    Thank You for the blog, answers alot of my questions!

    No rage from me - I never expected it to be free to upgrade a ship. That said, I'm hoping it is closer to the 500 zen pricepoint, rather than 1000 zen per ship. Alot of ships to upgrade, some of which were alot of zen themselves (2500 + 500 for FSM). I hope this is how it will work out.

    Make it easy and affordable, and I (and hopefully others) will be more willing to buy a full T6 ship, or the new gear, etc etc...:)

    I am absolutely NOT, again NOT and third time's a charm NOT paying more ZEN to upgrade t5 ships to "t5-U". But I am ready however to pay for t5-to-t6 ship upgrade, that I will consider a fair trade.

    And please include in "free" bracket also fleet ships...

    I will glady pay zen to upgrade my guramba to t5-u In fact whatever the cost I would pay double!

    lockbox ships free upgrade? Wasnt expecting that, thanks!

    Lets face it we will all be getting the T6 ships with new boffs and traits im not fussed anbout my current cstore ships tbh.

    Compared to T6 Ships all upgraded Lockbox shipy are now Junk:
    One less Mastery Level,
    No Starship Trait
    No additiional Bridge Officer abilities
    No Specialist BO Seats
    Beta, LTA, CE, Multiple preorder Versions, all Addon Packs except AoY, nearly all KDF/Rom and ~50% of all Fedships, over 25 LockboxShips, Endurer of Atari's "Year of Hell", but...
    unfortunately:

    This whole system was a waste of time. Tier 6 is the only thing people really want to upgrade to, but a bunch of people will actually do this because tier 6 will have so few ships, none of them likely to be canon. There's no way the devs don't know this.

    Sooo... why not just call them tier 6 after the upgrade? The only real difference, considering that the starship traits can be used on any ship after unlocked and that the new BOFF class can most likely be used in universal seats, is the additional "BOFF ability". Which doesn't seem like that big of a deal.

    Again, why not just call them tier 6?

    Alright, clarity at last. i sincerely appreciate this blog has come out a little early.

    Almost makes it seem people there are listening.


    Good stuff:

    Really glad to hear that promotional ships, as well as lobi/lock box ships get their upgrade for free.

    Also, the upgrade will be account wide. Again very welcome.

    Cost between 500 and 1000 (stc) zen is reasonable, though not generous.


    Meh Stuff:

    Think the difference between tier 6 and tier 6-U is broadly ok, although I'd have preferred the extra boff slot too.
    Without it, PvP in particular will require T6.



    It's a shame no starship traits for the canon ships.

    Without knowing what the traits are going to look like, we can't be sure if this is going to be a big or a small difference.

    However, if a standard trait added, say, 20% to something I'd like to see a version of this for T6-U ships of around 10%.

    Could even be the same cut down trait for all such ships. essentially giving every ship a trait, albeit a weaker and generic version for non T6 ships.



    Terrible Stuff:

    ......nothing really.



    The process seems like a fair and reasonable approach to the issue.

    As said, the presumed zen charge isn't terrible, albeit not generous.

    And, again as said, I'd prefer all ships getting a trait, even if its a weaker version.

    But, overall, a reasonable approach.

    For good reason--I farmed good dil to trade for ZEN that other people paid good money for to get my Scimitard!

    (only half joking there. I know Cryptic and PWE have got to make money, but this feels craven)

    Agreed.

    I just hope that PWE sees sense and keeps the upgrade cost low. Like, 50 ZEN low.

    Agreed, however the one less mastery trait is the unlock of starship trait so thats one fo the list.
