I do find it a little mind boggling that Cryptic dropped a bombshell like the T6 ships announcement, without a single accompanying Dev Blog to provide a few details and some context. Did they honestly not expect the fans to freak out?
And what did not giving a calming answer do? It got people streaming to the forums and talking excitedly about the pros and cons of the expansion. It can show investors there is interest in this product and it whets people's appetite for it.
I think that may be rather shrewed.

I noticed that the new Uniform Code has split the Medical Department from the regular Sci/Tac/Eng unity uniform.
I remember an old Perpetula design where they had 4 classes. Maybe we will get a seperate Science and Medical Department, and not the mixed one we have now.

If that's the case, I hope we get to choose Med or Sci for our existing captains and BOFFs so we won't have to reroll.
If you believe anything out of Rivera's mouth, I have two bridges and an ocean to sell you. Barely used.
Um, you can *see* the Work in Progress interface for upgrading items in the game right now. I'm not going to get this thread deleted by posting it, but it's there.

Just because someone has a different viewpoint doesn't mean you have the right to insult them like that. Instead, please give a valid reason for your position so we might have a more intelligent conversation.
My vesta is miss universe compared to that new fed cruiser or escort. I dont think ppl will buy that ugly ship, even dysons had small sales compared to other ships like galaxy pack. I would gladly pay for fleet version of vesta with new looks (nacelle, hull, etc.) but i wont be paying for this ugly ship thats for sure. Expansion 10 will be good for me couse i will be saving a lot of money (and most of ppl by the comments)
Tier 6 ships:
All 3 factions getting new ships.
New class of starship, to go along with the new class of Bridge Officer.
Ship upgrades will not be tied to crafting system which was introduced in Season 9.5.
With new ships, comes new tiers of gear. Mark XIII and Mark XIV will be added.
"Nothing you have will become obsolete. Ships, gear, nothing." - CaptainGeko. http://sto.gamepedia.com/Upcoming_content
Plus as I have said before on this subject. I could use a little more challenge since my regular ships (Non Fleet Ships) practically destroys all my targets.
I'm looking forward to the new Delta Expansion. Lots of new places, new enemies, new missions. I see lots of fun in the future.
USS Casinghead NCC 92047 launched 2350

Story content: Delayed ad infinum. Don't worry though, we've got grindy stuff for you to do.
All your gear and ships: Obsolete by virtue of no longer being max level, welcome to the new grind, ladies and gentlemen. I can see it now... "Purchase an 'Upgrade Module' to unlock your ship's full potential! Only 1499 zen!'"
I don't see why they would introduce a new "tier" of weaponry and ships. Guild Wars 1 had a hard-cap when it came to gear, all they did was introduce harder content to satiate the playerbase. Give me skins, give me effects, give me new abilities to toy with, but don't make all my hard work obsolete. Some of us have other bills to pay, and STO ranks really, really far down the list of stuff I need to spend money on. I suppose with Lifetime I can just play the waiting game to be awarded enough Zen to purchase whatever I need...

This is true, but I still believe that there should be a solid "endgame" as far as gear goes. I like there to be a theoretical maximum that a player is able to achieve and strive for. I was never able to get into most MMOs, because the top was always changing. Why waste energy specializing when what is tier 1 today is tier TRIBBLE tomorrow? I hope Cryptic handles the transition in a positive way, especially after their bone-headed removal of the hourly bonuses and the reputation nerfing.

Watch this. About 38-42 minutes in Geko points something noteworthy out. You'll probably wanna level your R&D now to prepare.
It's still not worth leveling or touching the system until there are full details of what you get. So time isn't wasted messing with the scrollie and clickie UI.
As always with STO announcements - cautiously optimistic. I'm sure whatever it is, even if it falls short of all this proposed goodness, it will at least keep me playing the game, or at the very least, keep coming back to it, as a familiar fun place.
Wow, got through 7 of the 69 pages of whine before giving up. Anyway, going to wait until we start seeing the dev posts before I cry doom. I might be alone in my faith in Cryptic and the STO team. Wish we were getting playable Cardassians though

You aren't alone in your faith. I have it too. I think Delta Rising is going to be awesome (my opinion). Don't let go of getting playable Cardassians just yet. They may be coming sooner than you think.
Wow, 70 pages all starting because of my tweets being reposted. Not sure if I should be thanking Ashkrik or plotting revenge.
Personally I'm interested to see where this expansion takes us. I've been around MMOs enough to expect level cap increases and gear becoming obsolete. At this point we've probably been stuck at 50 for too long and gotten too complacent. I have 18 characters, they're all geared out, they've all got good ships. What's left to play for? What goals are left to accomplish? Well, come October there'll be plenty. That's how most MMOs that I've played work, the mountain keeps going up. Doesn't bother me, especially with their statement that my old ships will be viable and upgradeable. Get some T6s, keep and upgrade some T5s, sounds good to me.
Being at the panel and listening to them talk about it makes me excited for what's coming. They hit the right points. More story, more ships, more area to cover, more cast voiceovers (they did say that Wang and Russ aren't the only ones). While we don't know an exact release date, if it is in October, than it's less than 3 months away. That's not long at all and we'll be seeing this on Tribble very soon.
All that aside I really wish they could have heard or read our fleet/Allied chat over the weekend. Because I've never seen some many people so pee'd off about a single thing as this. And I'm talking well over 500 people across three or four different fleets.
Your memory must be extremely short. I can EASILY recall at least 7 times the player base went all ape crazy and raged hard core.
1. Announcement that Death Penalty was going to be added to the game.
2. Announcement that the game was going F2P
3. Announcement that Foundry spotlight rewards were being "altered'.
4. Announcement that Cryptic was being sold
5. Announcement that LB were coming.
6. Announcement that Romulans would be an allied faction
7. Announcement that STF rewards were changing
I can't tell you how many times I've heard "if this gets added/subtracted/modified I'm quitting this game FOREVER" on these forums. I used to host a little podcast called "Tribbles In Ecstacy", and player rage was a HUGE part of what fueled many of our episodes. During my 100 episode run on that show the forums exploded in rage more than once.
And any who thinks that we wont get shafted with this expansion is either blind to the reality of it or just doesn't want to see.
If I had a nickle for every time some one has said this and been completely wrong. Instead of running for the hills screaming that the sky is falling why don't you wait and see what happens? I too am concerned. I have over 20 VAs and I'm NOT looking forward to going through a level grind all over. I'm not looking forward to potentially loosing some of my favorite ships, which by the way I spent ridiculous amounts of money on. However, this time I'm going to wait and see what info we get BEFORE I start raging.

This is what concerns me the most. I have a total of 4 characters at level 50, each with their own set of ships, and some ships that I fly more than others. I'm a stickler for canon, so I tend to be a frequent flyer of the canon ships. My Engineer uses the Fleet Excelsior, my Science officer uses the Fleet Intrepid, and my Tactical has the Fleet Defiant.
My concern is, neither the Defiant nor Intrepid is considered "outdated" in 2409. So why would they suddenly be outdated by 2410? Having the ability to upgrade ships is fine (and something I pretty much consider a must have). The issue is, how will they be upgraded, what will it cost, how will an upgraded T5 compare to a regular T6 etc. I'm mostly a PVE:er, so it doesn't bother me too much, if it's not perfectly up to specs compared to a regular T6. But the question is, how much worse will an upgraded T5 be compared to the T6? And why can't these T5 ships be FULLY upgradable to T6, to be equals?
And of course,
WHICH ships will be upgradable to Tier 6, is most important? At the very least, Fleet ships should have a free upgrade to T6 given the amount of time, and money already spent on getting access to the ships in the first place. My second choice, would be upgrades for lockbox ships to T6 (also free), since many have likely spent a great deal more money than what is "normal" to obtain these lockbox ships. Normal in this case, being the 2500 Zen (or 25 dollars) in the C-Store, whereas many spend considerably more for a lockbox ship.
And then there's the "Iconic" Starships, cause you just know that many (like me) will want to continue flying their favorite canon ship at max level (within reason). But even older starships like the Excelsior, should still be valid. If it's good enough for 2409, it should be good enough for 2410.
The information has only just started coming. Haven't even had one whole business day since the announcement. All they said was there will be an upgrade process. They didn't say anything about what ships will and won't be included in it. I have no doubt they will go into detail in the coming months.
I was told casually by one of the devs that he was very excited that the announcement of the expansion cause they could finally start talking about all this stuff they've been holding back. You'll be seeing a lot more info coming.

What hourly bonuses?
The old events, like the bonus marks event, mirror universe incursion, etc. They used to be an hourly sort of thing, where you'd see several per day.

Oh them. They weren't really bonuses were they now? More like time-gated content. Remember Defera back when that was only less than half the time?
