    LOL :D

So, they remain true to the tradition once again:

    - Klingon ship - usually spot on and this one seems no different. Robust, agressive, different and yet familiar and so very Klingon. Their, albeit rare, Klingon/KDF work is always top-notch.

    - Romulan ship - a bit too angular in the concept work for my taste and for the usuall (canon) Romulan flowing and curvy design, but still sleek and intimidating enough to qualify.

    - Starfleet ship - LULZ :D :P
I thought you guys finally got the hang of Starfleet ship designs with the Tempest, that one was flawless. WTF went wrong here??

Really hope by the term competitive they mean that they will have the ability to be at the same level..... in other words the Fleet Assault and Fleet Avenger I have that I blown a lot of resources in still perform well in public pvp versus a well put together T6 ship. I think they should give us T6 refits of our Fleet versions of our ships... personal opinion... a universal console slot or something....

That Fed ship is hilariously bad. The KDF ship looks nice, about what I would expect from a Klingon ship. Neither like nor dislike the Rom ship. I hope the other new Fed ships don't follow that design at all.

God, that new Fed ship looks terrible. They simply cannot design decent looking 2409/2410 ships. They've not got a clue about Federation asthetics.

It is an intriguing idea but badly designed. They just cannot design new Fed ships. This whole sleek, elegant look is lost on them. Hence why we end up with fugly Lego brick hull sections on ships like the Avenger.

They really should look at some of the stunning fan done designs you often see on these forums. They look like Starfleet ships and a true 25th century evolution.

I disagree. I think the cruiser looks fine, but that's only my opinion. You may disagree with that, and that's good too.

The Fed ships looks f-ugly. The KDF ships actually looks reasonable and I am neutral on Romulan ship. Still doesn't change the fact that I am not throwing away Tier 5.x ships for their new random creation. No upgrade / conversion to T6 == no sale here!

I agree, that fed ship looks terrible. I would much rather see more of the older canon ship make an appearance. Maybe they can flesh out the middle of the game instead of just tacking more TRIBBLE to the end of the game.

Except that they have explicitly never done this. It is always focus on the new shiny and forget yesterday's hotness.

Didn't they shoot this idea down already? I am a fan of a powerful Voyager ... heck any powerful science ships ... apart from Vesta. But the devs aren't interested. Apparently, Herr Commandant Rivera has a thing for escorts!

Like the Tholian crystal sword, and the umpteen rifles with every possible energy type? And equipment designed to combat the Tholians, mass-produced Thaloron weapons, and a Worf avatar that didn't get his TRIBBLE handed to him? You know, I'd like a Cardassian pistol with gold beams. But I guess that falls into the "yesterday's hotness" category, doesn't it?

I love the Cardassian compression(?) rifle too. There is so much super cool canon gear they just completely ignore now. Who else got a thrill from firing the TOS phaser rifle (Where No Man ...).

I mean that was a moment of pure joy right there. There are a couple of moments like that when leveling which get completely lost in the mundane generic space MMO which Cryptic peddles at end game!

I dont think they would, after all that as a caricature of Voyager and not a real ship ... its like having 'mericans as a race choice.

They did updated the Intrepid looks it seems.

Well +1 for this! Too bad we can't have this kind of thing without the rest of the TRIBBLE in X2!

Romulan ship -> just another refit of the Dhelan. Not new design there, just they picked something old and they made the ship bigger. Thats all.

Klingon -> At first i thought it was the Mogh. But i was mistaken. It is just slighty different. Maybe due to those dumb cannons placed in front of the ship. Im sure our phasers will be fired from there as well.. i will not be surprised.

Fed -> Hmm. I know federation designs should evolve at some point, but still, i am not used to that premise. Where are the nacelles?? the classic federation look is completely lost. Well, i admit i am neutral about the federation ship. It looks just well, a futuristic ship.. (lol, futuristic for a federation ship anyways..). And i prefer that design by far more than some temporal designs..

But, some sketches really show nothing. It is the final 3d model the one that will give us a final idea of how these "things" will look on the screen.

Yeah, the Type 3 was a mini Trekgasm the first time. And so was Coliseum. And the Briar Patch. But it has all faded in favor of web mines, energy absorbent shields, things labeled "Jem'Hadar." There is no magic left. My fairy dust has been thoroughly pissed in.

That's why Cryptic has to tread so carefully here. The amount of real money people have poured into the game to get the items. The RL cash spent on lockboxes, lockbox ships, keys to sell to get EC to buy lockboxes and lockbox ships, RL cash spent to support Fleet projects ...

Only to see it all go up in smoke with the coming of T6?

If I hadn't already gone off to EXPLORE other options of MMO gameplay, I'd certainly be leaving with this nonsense announcement.

Though I will say, my favorite part is how they are sooooo prepared. They ANNOUNCED it at a con. But give practically no details. It's like they don't even bother with proper marketing.

paying for each new expansion, and a monthly sub isn't paing for th stuff in said expansion? Since when?

Since they realized they had to actually do work on this game and simply having the Star Trek IP didn't instantly make ****tons of money by itself.

Question is - are they going to leave crafting in the sorry state it's in currently, or expand it to craft more 'other' stuff (such as commodities and consumables - with rarer items on critical successes)?

The crafting system has a lot of promise... but right now is barely a skeleton of what it could be with even a LITTLE work.

Expand what can be created; make what is created viable both in play and market (items in the crafting trees for all levels that can only be gained through crafting!)

The ability to choose mods on items crafted.

Using lower tier items to craft higher tiers of same - to consume those things that are now nothing more than vendor trash.

Remove dil and 'finish now' dil from crafting entirely. Wallet warrior game play is a mark of weak design and a floundering company.

Romulan ship looks great. Klingon ship looks great. Fed ship abandons Starfleet aesthetics, alas.

My biggest concern is with pack ships, especially the Flagships.

Its absurd the Enterprise stops being the top of the line Federation ship and became "meh" about 2 years after entering service, some other ships should be updated to T6 as the Atrox only because of their poor performance even at current level.

if i'm not mistaken, i think cryptic posted roughly around the time the oddy was released/slightly later, that "nothing" would be "outright" superior to the flagship(like fleet ships are in relation to regular T5 ships for instance).

but yeah i agree, its silly that the flagship of all things(and that goes for all 3 flagships), should be inferior to any ship, at least from a "basic" standpoint like average stats and stuff that is, it would also be ridiculously stupid to break canon so badly(let's pretend for a moment cryptic cares about that), to have a ship like the odyssey, which is supposedly the best of the best the federation can come up with(like the galaxy and sovereign were) be rendered obsolete after just one year in canon, not to mention the bonus of having the new enterprise rendered "obsolete" which is absurd.

That is what i was afraid of, another worse explanation for a ship design, just like those Sphere ones.

You do know you don't need to buy the ships, if you feel so strongly against their design... No one is forcing you to buy them anyway.

So, they announced this Delta Rising Expansion.

    Shrug.
    I like the ideas.
I flat out love some of the ideas.
I don't like some of the stuff I have seen.

As in anything, the final judgement lies in the execution of the ideas.
The proof is in the pudding.

It's way too early, and there is far too little information to make any kind of informed, reasonable feedback.

We can count on Cryptic to be Cryptic.
    In all the good ways.
Tacofangs and LCdr Miller will make some great maps.
JamJamz and the other ship artists are going to knock it out of the park with a couple of their ship designs.
The character art team is going to do a great job on the Major NPCs and new NPC races.
The missions that make up the story content will be well put together. The content designers have been continually upping their game.

Will it bring me back to actively playing the game?
Probably long enough to look at all the new shinies, go "OOOOO" and "AHHHHH" at the pretties.
Check out where Kestrel takes the story.

    After That ?
    Shrug ?

I'll keep popping open the Foundry and making exploration missions, because right now, that's the thing I have fun doing.

As Jean Luc Picard once said "There's plenty of letters left in the alphabet"... probably means one of the new Federation T6 Ships is going to be the Enterprise-G, although I don't see the point in them phasing it out & making it obsolete after a year.

But truth be told, I'm looking forwards to the next expansion, with bated breath...

    Pros:
    - Delta Quadrant
    - Level Cap Increase
    - New Story Episodes
    - New ship Tier

    Cons:
    - Ships at Tier 5 won't be useful anymore (canon ships at that).
    - Gear for said ships & ground gear would be obsolete...

I hope Cryptic does decide to release upgrade packs which upgrades Tier 5 ships to Tier 6.
Just so long as it has nothing to do with doing Crafting for it - Don't want a grind fest over this.

EDIT: Just seen the new Fed ship and it looks rubbish, really do not want to be flying that.

Romulan ship looks like an armored Valdore. I know it's concept art, but it's lacking the Romulan smoothness and curviness of canonical Romulan designs. (I.E. its too blocky).

The Klingon Raptor doesn't look like a Raptor at all. It looks like a Mogh Refit or a modernized Vor'cha, than a Raptor.

The Federation Ship - a flying shovel. :P

Seriously, it doesn't feel like a Federation starship at all. Or at least a Modern one. It gives me the feeling like it's from the 40th Century Starfleet than the 25th. Not even the Enterprise J was so futuristic.
