Same in the UK, they're just ineffective and often not actually enforced. Our schools are FULL of bullying.

I HATE bullying, of any form, whether it's trolling or whatever. Which is why I am in this thread trying to share my understanding of the psychology of bullies with those who would be their victims. Trolls, like any bully, lose interest when they don't get a rise out of their target, it really is that simple.

    This sums it up.

Even if a troll gets off on seeing that somebody paid the oh-so-lavish price of 100 GPL and the DEVASTATING loss of one little inventory slot, that's the last "reaction" they're probably going to see and get from that person... Unless said person still loses their cool over the harmless visual/audio effects of the Party Ball.

    Meh...

haven't you seen all those idiotic threads and posts pop up saying how seeing someone else running around a place like ESD in a non-standard uniform or combat armor disrupts their immersion?

Those are pretty far apart... I don't think they've even made it to the long list of considerations for FCT thread... me personally... I don't remember when I've seen them last.
i'm surprised no one's complained yet about the fact players can shoot off fireworks at warp and that seeing it 'disrupts their gameplay experience'

Well first off, The fireworks dosen't make your ship dance... Secondly, it's a very limited feature, so it dosen't affect many people, and not often enough to actually become annoying in the first place.

People are generally capable and willing to accept some discomfort, but only to a certain degree.

I think that may be why this became an issue in the first place... Had the Balls only been useable during risa event, I doubt it would ever have gotten out of hand.
Don't look silly... Don't call it the "Z-Store/Zen Store"...
Let me put the rumors to rest: it's definitely still the C-Store (Cryptic Store) It just takes ZEN.

This is better than nothing, although the best thing would be to remove the party amps from the game

lol, this game is already boring like a preaching; the party amp adds a little bit of fun; after the fights against always the same ennemies, after tons of crafting/farming/grinding, a little dance is a good thing. And i personally like to see Klingons dancing :P

why do you want to remove all the funny stuff from this game:confused:

I use and i like the amp, and i'm going to use it again again again and again. btw i'm maybe a troll, but at least i enjoy. And not i'm not a teen :P

this game becomes a retirement home for old senile; this is just a GAME; nothing is seious

    It's a passive feature...

I must have overlooked that, and still can't find anybody claiming that nobody, at any point, ever used the disco ball to troll people. I certainly never said this, as like I said, I know full well that where you get more than 1 person, you get bullies. Even without the party amp, there are 100s of ways of doing the same thing in ANY game, even just using emotes.

Ok, I can accept that you perhaps don't get the psychology of bullies and trolls. It doesn't always take on to know one by the way. Sometimes somebody who has been a victim of bullies seeks to learn their psychology, plus anybody who has gone into learning about psychology would pick at least a little up. So I will happily explain. Troll sets off party amp, sees who is dancing, thinks "meh they aren't bothered by my trolliing, boring!". Sees who isn't dancing "Ha! They're so bothered that they raised 100GPL and wasted an inventory space just so as not to be effected by a party amp! How sad is that? Lulz!". Does that help a little? If the nullifier was a gui option, and had been there all along, and a majority had turned it on from the off, then sure it wouldn't be a reaction. But I suspect you will find that only a minority of players will bother with them, and they may as well just wear a sign around their necks saying "Your party amp annoys me!"....

Heh, maybe I will be proven wrong, but again I point to the lack of any trolls or party amp lovers posting in this thread about how the nullifier should never have been added as evidence that maybe, just maybe, I am right here. ;)

honestly, it always did strike me as silly that you could just deploy these at random and not suffer any consequences for doing so...at the very least, doing it on ESD outside of the now-nonexistant club 47 should've caused starfleet security to come and toss you in the brig

but i get the feeling that would've been impossible on this game's engine, even if the devs would've had a mind to implement something like that

Point is: IF the "trolls" troll using balls on a person they know got the nullifier, hoping for a response/reaction, he will basically be trolling himself... it won't bother the guy who isn't dancing anymore, but the "troll" (note I use the "-sign) will be putting an efford into "harassing" the other party.

Basically he will troll himself, because the other guy isn't reacting to him...

Thats like a bully hitting himself, in the hopes of getting the little guy to cry... It just dosen't seem to be effective.

Some people toss party balls, other people, such as myself, like to RP within the Star Trek setting. Everyone has their own version of fun.

WHEN that happens, yes, I agree. As I've said though, to a bully (let's stop calling them trolls, and be much more honest about what a person who derives enjoyment from the discomfort of others is) ANY negative reaction is like sweet candy, and please don't attribute too much intelligence to every bully in the game. Sure there are probably some quite intelligent ones, they're probably using far more subtle methods though to be honest.

The threads complaining about it would have caused pure joy for them, and the complaining here is probably almost as good for them.

I wonder how many people feel "trolled" when they see somebody stood playing air piano near to a console? I'd say that was far more immersion breaking to somebody who cares about these things than a spontaneous flash mob incident, complete with flashy lights. lol
