Made a specific item to off set the effects of the subspace party amp... Could have just removed the forced dance component from the party amp.

Going to be a surprisingly popular item though. I'd be un-surprised if eventually 90% or more of the player population get themselves nullifier. Nope, not even a little surprised. I predict it'll become the new right of passsage.. get a nullifier or be considered a noob.

At least this will put a big crimp in the worst of the trolling, griefing, and harassing of players in social zones through forced effects. It is by far the most abused tool for doing so.

Might not be what the dev team intended, but it is what it got turned into. Should have done something about it months and months ago. I wonder just how many customers this game has lost because of the stupid things... Note I said "customers".. not players... people who pay to get things in game. I've had my wallet closed since the things were introduced. It's the only "vote" that counts.

Personally I think the party nullifiers should cost no more then the party amplifiers.

Or to put it another way..

they don't; they cost the exact same as a disco ball - 100 GPL

and unlike the balls, the nullifiers aren't consumables, so one only has to pay a one-time fee to be free of digital ra...err, forced dancing

i believe someone also said something to the effect of it deadening the music, as well

Don't look silly... Don't call it the "Z-Store/Zen Store"...
Let me put the rumors to rest: it's definitely still the C-Store (Cryptic Store) It just takes ZEN.

I get a feeling that we're going to see a lot of Disco Balls once this goes live, so that the Dancing Queens can figure out who has the Nullifier. :P

How do you know there just not celebrating the end of the Disco Ball Wars.

90%? No.. MAYBE 25% if not 10%. Shocking to what people believe, not many people cared about being forced to dance and yes, I asked a lot of people in game. Yes I'm about to say it, the vocal minority on here was VERY loud about it, and created numerous threads (Thus why it became an FCT) on the subject, but in reality it wasn't that much of a pain. It was easily (very easily) avoidable, it didn't do any lasting damage to a player, and most players don't hang around ESD, Drozana, DS9 etc. They go in, get what they want, and leave. That's the primary player base. This item has actually been in existence for quite sometime and was given to developers to use when holding events as it did an AOE, so it probably didn't take that much to scale it down to player use. Am I happy they added it? Nope. Am I mad they added it? Nope.

I'm in the camp of "Oh woopie do da de I was forced to dance let me move 4 feet over and go about my business" so I just don't care lol. Kudos to those that are wanting something like this I hope you enjoy it, but to me it doesn't change anything. I still RP when I want to, I go where I want to, I party when I want to. Disco balls or not. I got better things to save up for than this item.

I just wanted to honestly say thanks for the nerve tonic update and the addition of an anti dance ball. Almost none of my friends say they're not getting one, and it's an affordable price too! I am very happy with this update and the fact that it feels like the harassment (which I have reported and nothing comes out of.. >.>) is finally going to slow.

Thank you from all of us mainly social players who like to be able to just stand still and chat without our characters having a seizure every few seconds. ;P

Truth in every word! It's a game forum though bud, I am sure you know as well as I that on game forums those in a vocal minority ALWAYS have the delusion that they are in the majority and even in the face of evidence can't be swayed from this delusion. Don't get upset folks, I am using the word delusion here in the correct definition of a firm and fixed belief in something that can not be proven and for which there is no evidence, NOT as an insult.

If you believe that, then you really don't understand the mindset of genuine trolls and bullies. If you did, then you would understand that finding a player who has been driven to the point of spending time getting GPL and then wasting an inventory slot JUST to avoid having their character start dancing around will give a troll their jollies just as effectively as somebody breaking down into a fit of tears or rage. Do you know what trolls and bullies really hate? When their efforts are completely ignored without even a glimpse of a reaction.

Nullifiers, aka. troll candy, as they're going to love them far more than all of the folks who felt trolled by the party amps....

    Tears? Of laughter maybe. lol

jumping into that cesspit to try win votes doesnt make your opinion any more valid then those your attacking. you will end up in that position with the minority over something somewhere down the line and the worst part is you wont even know of it until you are told. since you are already here on this forum, welcome to our world :P

for the record, there will always be someone complaining about something at some point on this game, majority or minority makes no difference, evidence doesnt always make the numbers add up either, sometimes it requires a compromise to be worked out somewhere so define what you mean by delusional more carefully.

Indeed, and that goes both ways.

On any given point, each side usually imagines themselves the majority.

And, the two extremes of the disco-ball-axis are two good examples of that.

Point is, introducing the disco balls without an opt out was ill-conceived in the first place.

All this nullifier is doing is allowing those who wish to dance to dance, and those who wish not to not to.

No sense of majority needed, its a simple principle of equity.

Aye bud, tried for a while to convince people that the best way NOT to feed trolls is to just stop been bothered. Folks misunderstood this and decided I was a party amp loving troll myself so I had to explain that I've never actually owned or used one...

There's a reason there are no angry posts in this thread though from party amp fans, they either don't actually care as weren't using them to troll but rather to just add what they see as a bit of fun to proceedings, or are busy celebrating the addition of a nice flag system to indicate who is actually bothered and who isn't.

Now to count down until an amp hater argues my points with a single sentence and a roll eyes smiley. ;)

I have to admit, I don't understand how people can "troll" now that the problem has been solved...

I just tested the nullifier under a ball, and my char wasn't dancing... So how can they troll more now?

As a roleplayer, I personally welcome the nullifiers. If you like the Party Amplifiers, more power to ya', but if we'd had the option for opting out of their effects from the get-go, I would've opted out. I'm just glad we have the ability to do so now, and 100 GPL and one little inventory slot is a good price to pay. Just wish it had come a bit sooner.

Not because I'm a party pooper or anything, but it just isn't my kinda fun. And as I say, to each their own. You have your version of fun, I have my version of fun.

as people have said, the ultimate goal of any troll is to get a reaction out of their target...which they have been continuiously getting since the amps were added, and they also got a further reaction today - that reaction being what you quoted

We'll see friend, we'll see. As the old proverb goes, the proof of the pudding is in the eating. Time will tell.

As to 2 sides, guessing you haven't read back far enough to discover that there are 3 sides been dicsussed here? Amp haters, amp lovers, and those who just don't care either way. Me, I sit in the don't care either way camp, and I think that you will find that this is where the true majority can be found. Evidence for this, askray's post on the matter.

Do I believe that I speak for any kind of majority? Nope, nor will I ever claim to. The fact that the true majority stay silent on the matter speaks far more loudly.

I'm neither for or against the party amp, I'm neither for or against the nullifier. I do however believe that I understand the psychology of trolls and bullies quite well, and suspect that time will prove my theories in this correct.

The point some of us are trying to make though is, buying a nullifier is a negative reaction just the same as complaining on these forums, changing instance to get away, or even ranting in chat.

The nullifier wont stop the trolling, it just adds another way that trolls can see a reaction. Which is why NOBODY in this thread who is pro amplifier, whether troll or not, is shedding any tears.

This thread is tame compared with the ones on the amp itself. Some of those were meltdown masterpieces.
Those were always fun. I miss them.:(

    Looks like we won, Sorry'boutit.

To be honest it never bothered me all that much until I saw the complaint threads about these disco balls and people like you 2 defending them. It just seemed so silly to get so worked up over keeping those things that it was funny to get them nerfed.

Actually, there are several people in this thread that claim that the balls were never used for harassment by anyone.

In any case, I don't see how getting the nullifier qualifies as a reaction, any more than getting Sci-team is a reaction to Viral Matrix... You find a counter to a game-feature, and then never think about it again...

After reading this post I must address the 800 lbp gorilla in the room. (Oh hi S'taass.) Why the heck was a disco ball put in game in the first place? Was it for any other reason then to troll and especially in social zones? Not to mention in 2410 disco rightfully being dead for centuries do to it being a dance crime against humanity :D I just can't ignore the logical question of what purpose did it serve?
