pretty sure its ruined, its been turned onto some azzin grind monstrosity that punishes everyone who plays with the worst tedium and monotony possible. the upgrade cost and level grind is far beyond the scope of what im willing to ever do, even if the pvp was still good, which it now isnt.

Man, PvPers are whom I feel for the most about this. You guys have a legit reason to complain about the current power ceiling. And that's even before considering the issues PvPers had already in STO.

Its nice to hear something other then scorn for pvp, so many on the forum seem to delight kicking us wile we are down. Ya the bar of entry now is just about a fully upgraded ship with done specialization, but even then all you will find are chain disables, kinetic through shield 1 shots, and victory or defeat hinging almost exclusively on RNG rather then skill.

The thing is, it's slowly built up to that. Season after season, lockbox after lockbox, power creep on top of the previous season's unchecked power creep, warning after warning from longtime players about the imbalance, and more imbalance stacked on top of all the previous seasons' imbalances.
The result is what it is now.
Even PVE was not safe from it. How long even in the PVE aspect has the issue of "DPS or nothing at all" been a sore point in this game? It's not a new phenomena that came about with DR. It's been this way for years now. DR just made it more abundantly clear.
Lastly, it does NOT help at all that the guy that was meaning to bring balance to abilities left Crytpic.

Id actually say season 8 pvp was the best, huge variety of builds worked, just about everything felt valuable, pvp has had its ups and downs over time. Season 9 brought the zindi escort and crafting, and the insane buff to particle gen damage thanks to those crafting consoles. made worse considerably by mk14 versions of all of them. suddenly there was a new literal super escort I win button, and sci ships that could kill you through shields easier then anything else could kill you with actual weapons. most of them you couldn't even fight back against, because you could kill yourself with 1 weapons cycle of FBP, season 9 pvp was GARBAGE.
but thats nothing compared to DR. the disables from intel skills turn off your ability to react and activate station powers, and held you in place. nothing within the pvp system could be more powerful then that kind of control. also the 2 most powerful and god awful placates by far, the neutronic torp that with tac buffs, ambush and mk 14 with spread 3 can 1 shots multiply player ships with impunity. and if thats not enough, the rep set its a part of has isoknetic cannon, with is a huge direct to hull chunk of kinetic damage in case someone survives.
that on top of the new basic bar of entry. pvp is utterly ruined.
pve has been ruined since DR launch, the difficulty system is balanced based on fully upgraded and specialized ships, by their own addition its only technically possible to do normal with season 9 ships and gear. if its not the grind thats pushed people away, its the dead ques because pretty much nothing but normal ques are mathematically possible to pug without a team of 'done' ships. but advanced and elite are the only ones that give decent rep and crafting component rewards. i think its funny how they didn't increase ground difficulty, its like an admission that space is a broken joke, but at least we didn't TRIBBLE up ground. the only natural response to all this is to decide to stop playing.
really to bad. a tier 6 galaxy in the spirit of the intrepid would have actually been good.
While personally I found Season 9 to be the best season for PvP (IMHO of course), I agree with everything else drunk has said. DR has effectively chopped off STO's proverbial arm. We're just waiting for the body to bleed out.
What they should have done was construct better Intel abilities that weren't so polarized. We have intel abilities that are seriously overpowered with the non-counterable disables, and we have intel powers that are useless, such as viral impulse burst. There are some good ones like OSS that should be kept, but other than that, the 4th type of boff power was poorly implemented.
And then grinding and the crafting/upgrade system which is currently the source of my headaches at the moment, as I prep for a T5U PvP tournament. It's either a high EC or a high Dil investment, depending on whether you like to use catalysts or multiple upgrade attempts.
The game's a shamble now. And in regards to the Galaxy, I'd say don't bother. I don't think we're likely to see any changes to the Gal-R for at least another two years.
Once ST:Excalibur hits, that's where I'm going to get my Galaxy cravings. This game is becoming such a time sink, it's not even funny anymore.

It's an interesting question. I would love to see a T6 Galaxy and a T6 Nebula, although I admit that I'm hardly playing anymore. I didn't even finish the winter grind, I couldn't stand it. In theory I can still make it, but oh well. I would buy those T6 ships (via dil exchange of course, never would pay cash for this game ever again) and have a bit fun in them, though.
The PvP thing is also true. I never PvPd in STO, albeit I very much liked to do so when I purchased the game years ago. But I never got into it since it always required a lot of time and resources to get the best gear - when I bought the game I knew there was some kind of progression, yet I thought of it more as a Bridge Commander-esque game back then where all ships are standardized or customizable to a certain, balanced degree and you have fun engaging other players with it. But that's not it and that's why I never got into it, sadly.

I have the Fleet Galaxy-X now and I like the changes they did to it (like adding the hangar bay) but what about the Guramba Siege Destroyer? Everyone's always talking about the Galaxy with its Lance. The Guramba with Javelin is still unchanged since the beginning. As usual Klingon ships don't get the love they need. Adding one more console slot would already fix this ship up to current standards. C'mon Cryptic! How hard can it be?
Tyr shall give me strength! For the glory of Tempus! I am the hands of Shar! Flames of Kossuth, protect me! Oghma, grant me knowledge! Lolth commands, and I obey!

the galaxy X has always been ok enough not to really need any attention. the galaxy R though is god awful and the worst ship in the game. so you can imagine how incensed we must have been when they did a supposed galaxy reboot, and buffed the X wile doing nothing for the R.
apparently on the foundry there is a gurumba with the kdf fleet skin, which is odd because thats only for klingon ships specifically. now that tier 6 is a thing they have a chance to actually retread it and give it a proper tier 6 version thats awesome. suppose that would be worth the wait more so then just a tier 5 fleet version.

hehe, i thaught this thread was dead for good.
hey, like tuvok would said: it is agreable... to see it in the first page again:)
anyway, would anyone still care?
i think that it just that DR destoyed everything so the galaxy is not our biggest problem now.
and to what end for now? well at least for me!
i have completely stopped pvping since DR start to grind my gear and i am not in a hurry to go back to it from what i read in the forum and in the opvpchannel.
i have accepted to let go the galaxy x to grind the ship trait of the delta pack and was prepared to use the eclipse in pvp...until i saw the thread of ryansto on the galaxy x, and decided to give it a try.
for the first time in almost 5 years playing this game i have respect to a pve skillpoint layout!!!
so i can continue to use the galaxy x at least in pve, i can now carry a pug in advanced stf, and often finish battle of korfez, in pug ( it been 3 years that i only do pug anyway but with delta rising that was a bit of a problem at first XD ).
but even a t6 galaxy in pvp... i am not sure, from what i heard, you need to be fast and nimble to help you avoid the disable t6 power so...
but i am not worry about this ship anymore, it will have a tier6 version i am sure of it, but it won't be here soon, i give it 1.5 years to appear, maybe 2.
gecko spoked about doing a galaxy interior, that this is something they want to do so that this game is complete.
they done the defiant, intrepid, and the constitution if i am correct.
and, of course, if they do an interior, there is 99.99999998% chance that they will do a tier6 version of it, with a high def skin of the ship as well.
so to conclude, i think many still care but with what happening with the game, i am afraid there biggest problem is: do i stay with this game or do i quit?
i think the dev have just push the grind too far and they will paid the price for it.
will sto survive another years? if so, we may see a tiers 6 galaxy.
that would be great! if not just for the HD skin:)
would anyone even still care at this point if a decent galaxy was released?
I'm sure some will, though not as much as the majority already embracing the Odyssey; which pretty much rendered the regular Galaxy (and the Ambassador) completely obsolete once its C-Store variants came out, and the Guardian; which has more numerous requests for Cryptic to give it an -X variant and saucer separation and be the replacement of the Galaxy-class in its entirety (in fact, it too has generally replaced Galaxy Rs used by the few).
Any Galaxy revamp (so "soon" after the last one no less) is likely to just be considered a poor copy of the Guardian, regardless of it being a T5U with better seating or being a T6, at least in the current time, when Intel is the only primary specialization.
Because to be blunt, they currently have no reason to go back yet again (in their opinion) and redo the Galaxy series again, unless it would be guaranteed to sell. Which is its own slippery slope/circular reasoning the same way not producing content for KDF due to low playerbase and spenders is.

the galaxy sucks because cryptic thinks a decent one would sabotage all future ship buys, cause everyone would just use the galaxy. its absurd, they only seem to worry about that with the galaxy, wile most other canon favorites are pretty decent, and prove how silly the notion is.
there's plenty of space for a tier 6 galaxy still, just having access to OSS2 means its better then any tier 5U beam boat. and if the intrepid is any indication, it would have a station setup like this
COM eng
LTC eng LT tac* LT sci LT uni
the guardian can feel short on eng with the LT eng thats a hybrid, but its got strong sci and tac. the galaxy would be much more eng heavy, and run into much less opportunity cost in its builds
an X version of the guardian sounds absolutely disgusting. that garbage concept does not need to spread its diesese to any other good looking ship. its clear the guardian is able to saucer sep, by just looking close at the model though. not sure how thats gonna get added.
I can confirm that a T5U Fleet Galaxy R using an Eng toon can reach 30k DPS with 60% all res tank in a PuG due to reciprocity trait and the extra tac console using crtdx4/Crtd3pen APs.
If you want to drop AP for Romulan Plasma, it will go down to 20-25k dps on an Eng Toon.

so? any other tier5U beam boat would do better with the same gear, with the exception of the star cruiser now.
there are cruisers that could probably double that with those weapons.

Please read the post again, this is not on a tac. i dont know where you get your information your double the dps of each other cruiser on a Eng Toon when you spend more time in the forums than in game. As of today, I only know 1 Fed Eng dedicated player in the dps league who has done 60k dps and it aint on a Fed based cruiser ship.
Reciprocity trait and the extra console slot lessens the gap between a 4 tac console cruiser and Fleet Galaxy R.
But sorry Galaxy R aint as subpar as you and a few assumed except well for the frequent few Gal R haters.

Reciprocity trait + lt tac slot = not much.
Reciprocity trait + ltcmdr tac slot = quite a lot.
and what, pray tell, does the galaxyr have for a tac console? A Lt. Heck, even the old ambassadors out do it in that respect, not to mention the uni slot allowing you to have more than double the tac boff seating of a galaxy.

what are you even talking about? i didn't say anything about a tac captain. Reciprocity isn't doing anything AtB hasn't already been doing for that ship and others for years, funny how the DPS obsessed act like it changed everything.
DPSers are slow to catch on when new stuff is added as usual, the scimitar is now only the 3rd best DPS ship. the eclipse, a fed cruiser in fact, is the best, thanks to how powerful OSS3 and ionic 3 are.
if you can look at the galaxy R and think its not sub par, think its not garbage, you don't know much about ship building. that much eng cant even be used effectively in any good build, its got only a LT for tac and sci, and only now a 3rd tac console. there are cruisers that could easily double the DPS with those weapons and gear.

Yes the Eclipse can still deal decent DPS probably can deal 80k dps on a tac toon. Sorry but the Eclipse isnt at par yet with the Scimitar in pve dps. Show me your 160k DPS eclipse in ISA complete within a day recorded at dps league and i will believe you so that everyone can believe your nonsense about the eclipse.
you should know, The highest DPS fedtoon isnt even Tier 6 ship nor a cruiser, its an escort using two weapon types and a fixed console. Fed Escort has been the highest Fed DPS ship in practice for a month now. And at one point, was the highest DPS even vs the Scimitar.
The damage potential of Galaxy R are already almost the same as the rest of tier 5 cruisers. A Galaxy R can reach 60k-80k dps nowadays on a Tac toon. Do you even know why? Recluse nanies, epic items and specializations, A plasma proc of Tac toon can even reach 30k dps. Add 10-20k to exotic damage. When Ryan did the 40k dps on galaxy R it was on Phasers Crtdx3 and without recluse last november when the highest dps was 100k dps. Today the higest dps is 160k+ dps.
Intel fleet, Recluse nannie and Scimitar support negates the other cruisers APB which equalizes the Gal R with all other tier 5 ships with 3 tac console cruisers in group missions. Of course if you are aiming for solo build Gal R is sub par against more than a lt com boffs cruisers with 3 tac consoles or more.

it will never cease to amaze me how the vaunted DPS league cant make the biggest energy damage buff in the game, OSS3, create any DPS. a skill that peeks at a 100% final damage multiplier, wile they fret over things like tac consoles that only buff base damage, not cumulative damage. you all cant be this bad at the game, you simply must have never even used the skill in runs.
a phantom with beams, FAW3, APB3 and OSS3 might even outdo the eclipse wile down a weapon, so you might be right about escorts dealing most damage.
if plasma proc is worth so much DPS, thanks to APB surely, why would anyone run rom plasma or any plasma? embassy sci consoles add a burn proc per console, load up 3 and run AP or whatever, and each burn proc would stack 3 of them at once.
i know how you guys get your DPS records, its got less to do with the actual ship thats claims the record, then the quality of the APB stacking it gets. thats why so many don't take you lot seriously. being unable to turn intel ships into the new kings of DPS MONTHS after DR launch should be all the proof anyone needs that you guys barely have any grasp of what your doing, bumbling along clueless about fundamental game mechanics. the recent discovery of DBB was especially cute.
if no one has yet been able to figure out how to make the eclipse claim top honors, here's a build that should do it. http://www.stoacademy.com/tools/skillplanner/?build=dpseclipse_0 don't fret over the loss of tholian rep aux based damage buffs, or missing the 4th over 75 power damage buff from warp cores, those are all microscopic strength buffs. i see that most don't even run the obelisk core and ancient 360 deg beam anymore with AP, dispite thats actually being a final multiplier, so MUCH stronger then ether of those tiny strength buffs.
that elachi dread, qib, phantom, and faeht should all be able to out DPS the scimitar too, maybe even the guardian and aelahl.
The "Command" specialization is coming. There will be new T6 ships with command hybrid seats - what do you guys think? T6 Galaxy, a command cruiser? There was a Galaxy on their promo screenshot after all.

Sadly using the Galaxy as a promo is common with this game. Most of the Omega rep slides show a Galaxy, shipyard has a Galaxy icon, for a very long time the official website had the Galaxy pictured on it, ect
However i'd be all for a new Galaxy even if the ens eng got changed to uni to match the Galaxy-x boff setup.
Command Spec seems ideal for the Flagships first (Odyssey, Bortesqu, and Scimitar); probably on a Lt. Cmdr. Hybrid slot (Ideally, turn that Lt. Cmdr. Universal into a Universal/Command hybrid). Though it would be great if they were full Command Flagships (Cmdr. Eng/Command hybrid seating).
Though I wouldn't quite put it past Cryptic to market a T6 Galaxy, though probably with a Hybrid Lt. Sci/Command while retaining all that lovely Eng ability slots. Probably including a 4th gimmick console and 4-piece bonus as well. Esp. since unless it's a rare or really valuable ship (Sheshar currently), it looks like Lt. Hybrid will remain the standard on non-Specialized ships, and going by the Pathfinder, they turn a spare Lt. slot that isn't part of the ship's overall theme (in the Pathfinder's case, Lt. Eng) into a Hybrid one. Which means the Lt. Sci slot will just get the treatment.
It could be worse; the Lt. Tac could be made the Hybrid just to spite Galaxy users while pushing more Flagship Cruisers and whatever Command Specialized T6s we'll be getting.

I don't think your prediction is correct, for you forget that one of the boff slots will be raised up one level. It's more likely that the Ensign engineer will be raised to Lieutenant and that will be the hybrid Command station.
But see, that makes too much sense for Cryptic standards, and could "destroy the entire theme of the ship as being unsinkable"! /sarcasm
They slightly fudged the Sheshar as well, making it have an otherwise useless Ensign Eng instead of just one Cmdr Eng seat, or at least making the Ensign slot Uni. And that's a rare promotional ship.
I fully expect them to repeat it with the Galaxy, or turn an otherwise necessary seat (like Eng on the Pathfinder) into a Hybrid (choosing between a Tac/Eng/Sci Team 1 or Intel/Command). If they don't, and actually make that Ensign Eng an Lt Eng/Hybrid, I will honestly be surprised. It won't change the Eng-heavy aspect of the ship, but at least it would be a bit more viable.

I'm sure they will. Just like they had Gozer's replacement finish all of those PvP changes he was working on before he left.

the galaxy X has always been ok enough not to really need any attention. the galaxy R though is god awful and the worst ship in the game. so you can imagine how incensed we must have been when they did a supposed galaxy reboot, and buffed the X wile doing nothing for the R.
apparently on the foundry there is a gurumba with the kdf fleet skin, which is odd because thats only for klingon ships specifically. now that tier 6 is a thing they have a chance to actually retread it and give it a proper tier 6 version thats awesome. suppose that would be worth the wait more so then just a tier 5 fleet version.
hehe, i thaught this thread was dead for good.
hey, like tuvok would said: it is agreable... to see it in the first page again:)
anyway, would anyone still care?
i think that it just that DR destoyed everything so the galaxy is not our biggest problem now.
and to what end for now? well at least for me!
i have completely stopped pvping since DR start to grind my gear and i am not in a hurry to go back to it from what i read in the forum and in the opvpchannel.
i have accepted to let go the galaxy x to grind the ship trait of the delta pack and was prepared to use the eclipse in pvp...until i saw the thread of ryansto on the galaxy x, and decided to give it a try.
for the first time in almost 5 years playing this game i have respect to a pve skillpoint layout!!!
so i can continue to use the galaxy x at least in pve, i can now carry a pug in advanced stf, and often finish battle of korfez, in pug ( it been 3 years that i only do pug anyway but with delta rising that was a bit of a problem at first XD ).
but even a t6 galaxy in pvp... i am not sure, from what i heard, you need to be fast and nimble to help you avoid the disable t6 power so...
but i am not worry about this ship anymore, it will have a tier6 version i am sure of it, but it won't be here soon, i give it 1.5 years to appear, maybe 2.
gecko spoked about doing a galaxy interior, that this is something they want to do so that this game is complete.
they done the defiant, intrepid, and the constitution if i am correct.
and, of course, if they do an interior, there is 99.99999998% chance that they will do a tier6 version of it, with a high def skin of the ship as well.
so to conclude, i think many still care but with what happening with the game, i am afraid there biggest problem is: do i stay with this game or do i quit?
i think the dev have just push the grind too far and they will paid the price for it.
will sto survive another years? if so, we may see a tiers 6 galaxy.
that would be great! if not just for the HD skin:)

Which is its own slippery slope/circular reasoning the same way not producing content for KDF due to low playerbase and spenders is.
the galaxy sucks because cryptic thinks a decent one would sabotage all future ship buys, cause everyone would just use the galaxy. its absurd, they only seem to worry about that with the galaxy, wile most other canon favorites are pretty decent, and prove how silly the notion is.
there's plenty of space for a tier 6 galaxy still, just having access to OSS2 means its better then any tier 5U beam boat. and if the intrepid is any indication, it would have a station setup like this
COM eng
LTC eng
LT tac*
LT sci
LT uni
the guardian can feel short on eng with the LT eng thats a hybrid, but its got strong sci and tac. the galaxy would be much more eng heavy, and run into much less opportunity cost in its builds
an X version of the guardian sounds absolutely disgusting. that garbage concept does not need to spread its diesese to any other good looking ship. its clear the guardian is able to saucer sep, by just looking close at the model though. not sure how thats gonna get added.

However i'd be all for a new Galaxy even if the ens eng got changed to uni to match the Galaxy-x boff setup.
I wish the Galaxy tier 6 ship would be like this for the bridge officers slots.
Com Eng
Lt Com Tac
Lt Eng/Intelligence
Lt Sci
Lt Uni
4 Eng consoles
3 Tac consoles
3 Sci consoles
