if they upgraded a ship i owned, i wouldn't feel entitled to getting it for free. this is a relaunch, its a new thing, its an all new ball of code, it just looks familiar.
"There is currently a Fleet Patrol Escort available in the in-game ship store if you have a Tier 1 Fleet Shipyard. That ship will be retired and no longer available. It will be replaced with the new Fleet Patrol Escort Refit."
"It" in this case looking to mean "the entry in the store" not "the ship you already have in your roster". The clarification people want is the latter, which according to Geko on twitter, looks like "haha, too bad, buy it again".
You guys really have to tell me how you manage to so steadfastly reach that conclusion when the vocabulary actually leaves it being the opposite, or just unclear (in which case it's crazy how you all are jumping to conclusions based on an assumption).
Seriously guys. Reading Comprehension 101.
Because the term 'retired' has never been applied to a ship up until this dev blog. For 4 years whenever a ship was given a buff or update, it has always been stated as such. Ships were never 'grandfathered' with the old, unbuffed stats.
So why is it that the wording on this is distinctly different when we're used to ship buffs being universal?
Why would he go out of his way to make that distinction?
Why are we seeing the word 'retired' being used to describe a Fleet ship for the first time, if there was not some major distinction between it and the ship that was replacing it?
There's no point in making such a distinction if this was business-as-usual, all-ships-will-be-altered-to-reflect-this-new-thing information we've gotten for the last few years.
Honestly, I want to be proven wrong. I want Al Rivera to personally say that you are correct, and I will not only eat my words and admit I was wrong on this forum -- I'll sell 10 master keys on the exchange for 1 credit each and eat the loss.
Well, fine. In any case, throwing speculation around doesn't seem to really resolve any of this ambiguity... so I figure the powers-that-be will make it more clear.
I'm surprised they have not - though Geko did put a "Stats are subject to change" disclaimer and the article is unavailable, which means it could be - at this moment - edited/overhauled to meet with this reaction.
Either way, if that ship was set to be released tomorrow, we'll see soon enough. The Ar'kif, though, was altered post release. So, I dunno.

Now THAT'S dev distrust right there.

They always put the "Stats subject to change" thing on EVERY ship they showcase because of possible balance issues.

I do own the fleet version, and tomorrow it will be the sub-standard fleet version. I haven't flown it for a year anyway, so it's easy to continue not flying it.
On the bright side, even low level fleets can get a 5 tac console escort. I hope a lot of new people enjoy flying this beauty!
It's not dev distrust (yes I know you were trying to quote me). It's me wanting to be proven wrong, but that I'm so sure of how the wording was phrased that I may be correct.
And yes, the Ar'kif was altered post-release. There wasn't a 'retired' Ar'kif that was unbuffed and you had to buy another. The only 'bug' that you might have had to do is reclaim the ship to get your scorpion fighters.
But there wasn't a 'retired' Romulan Tactical Escort.

Psst -- Ship is now on tribble, if you have 5 FMs and a T1 shipyard on tribble as well. The Fleet ship doesn't come with the new skin or console however (I assume you have to own the c-store version to have that skin available)
Just FYI.

As is the case with all fleet ships. They come with a different skin, but not the C-Store skin and console of ships that give them discounts.

Words are sadly just words, from all directions, in this case. I'll s ave my final judgement when I see it and touch it in game and then make the verdict for myself.

I do actually own an FPE. Honestly, not hugely worried myself, I moved that character into an F-Avenger. I have 2 others flying 5T escorts, even if I DID get an upgrade, I'd probably stay in the Avenger to keep more ship variety between my characters. I also bought the FPE like a year ago. No huge loss. I'd be more miffed if I'd just bought it
well, now we know what the free ship slots were for...cryptic, you'd best be holding a ship sale to go along with this release; we're just about due for another one
btw, the link is broken
someone wanna get that fixed so i can actually read the blog instead of staring at a 502 bad gateway page?
A normie goes "Oh, what's this?"

Curiosity is not welcome, it is not to be invited in. Curiosity...is bad. It gets you in trouble, it gets you killed, and more importantly...it makes you poor!"

I'd love to read this blog. Unfortunately, the ARC site is down. But the Forums are still up (clearly). So, it's not a PW error. It's just with ARC. Yet another reason why forcing ARC onto STO has been a worse idea than invading Russia in the middle of winter. >.>

The Ar'kif was a C-Store ship that could be dismissed and reclaimed by design. Yeah, now there's a Fleet Ar'kif, but none were in the wild at that time. And while the Ar'kif was modified, it wasn't modified in a way that forced anyone to change their boffs or build.
It's easy for some of us to point to the new FPE-R and say "that's a better ship than the old one", but what if someone is happy with the old one? Is Cryptic supposed to say, "no, you're not allowed to keep using that old boff layout, you have to change"?
A trade-in mechanism might be appropriate. Trade in an old FPE and one FSM for a new one. But simply changing the old ship isn't fair to anyone who likes the old ship.
I don't know if someone has already mentioned it but the Dev Blog link is broken.
And I have nowhere seen a cut n paste copy of the Blog on the last few pages here. And I have really searched very carefully this thread. I might have jumped some pages...

Does anyone know if they are planning to make a romi version? Perhaps a T'Varo variant?
Why would they make a Romulan version? o.O
This is a Patrol Escort (refit). The Romulans already have plenty that can potentially perform just as well.
Mind you, I wouldn't dislike seeing a 25th Century T'varo Bird of Prey.
...
This said, considering the Patrol Escort refit, I can't help but draw comparison to the Fleet Norgh. Isn't this the first time Starfleet has access to two LtC seats, AND they get the 5 tac consoles the Norgh does not have for its power versatility?

yes. the new arc site is so hard to use and find content anyway. very tedious to use regardless.
