That's a valid opinion, and hence one of the benefits of the variety in choices.
That said, many complained that none of the faces looked young, and in real life, very often, a younger face has notably fewer details than an older face.
Again though, glad the original textures are still desirable options.
you guys at cryptic did a hell of job, i really liked the new faces and complexions, the old faces also benefit quite a bit from new 3 complexions in terms of variety in facial structure, i just have one very minor quip.
the new female complexion standards(3-4-5) eyelashes make some characters look like they're using Cleopatra eye makeup at the outer canthus of the eye, i'll provide some personal examples:
and to be honest, i don't dislike it lol, it looks nice, but i think it would still be nice to also have the option of smaller eyelashes, for those that wish to make female characters with no frills.

Thanks - one of our testers pointed that out too. There was a texture error there that has been fixed, but not sure when it will be patched to tribble.
Overall, I like the greater variety of options provided by the new head shapes and complexions. I noticed a few changes not mentioned in the patch notes. I just wanted to confirm that these changes were intended.
1. The male "Heroic" complexion has been renamed "Standard 06".
2. I noticed some small differences in the complexions "Standard 01" and "Heroic / Standard 06" with the head shape "Humanoid 1". In particular, the lips are wider on Holodeck than on Tribble.
Andorian male (Head shape: Humanoid 1, Complexion: Heroic / Standard 06) Holodeck, Tribble
I don't think the new lips look bad, just slightly different. Also, the complexions look lighter on Tribble, but that may be due to lighting differences I'm seeing between Tribble and Holodeck.
Just chased through all of the different posts and images for these changes..
Gotta say..
WOW! Just WOW, do it! They look wonderful, and I'm looking forward to being able to "re-imagine" my lead character (Orion female).
I like having a unique look to my main characters avatar. I've been able achive some pretty amazing results for character look with my avatars, but I'm looking forward to being able to really tweek my female characters especially to make them amazingly attractive...
It's a small thing, and undoubtedly I'll get some flak from the grumpasaurus's about this... um "fixation" on how an avatar looks, but I'm truely unconcerned on that. I play the game for me.
I don't like my female avatars looking like cookie cutter "Barbie dolls" (tm).
This shall be fun.. and I expect to spend a couple hours at the tailor revamping my characters when this goes live.
And If I may ask this, look at the original series, and lets get something done about KDF hair options, both male and female. Lets get some amazing piles of hair, Yoman Rand in the original series had an amazing pile of hair that was quite attractive and none of the current hair stles reflect that look, and the character of "specialist Mara's hair in the original series is also not present. Doing a Klingon TOS female character is nearly impossible... the artwork just isn't there.
Keep plugging you guys and gals... looking very very good!

1. Yes. We changed that for a few reasons. None of the other names were of that sort of flavor or descriptive quality. That complexion also has a very distinct look, and the order it defaulted to, made that the first option in the list. We wanted a more "basic" look for the default and Standard 01 fits that better. Finally, Heroic/Standard 06 complexion fits well right before the "Aged" options as that one looks more middle-aged.
2. All of the heads have had minor tweaks, mainly to smooth sharp polygon edges and lighting issues and the mouth width on that one in particular was adjusted slightly, as you've shown, for compatibility reasons with the new heads. Hopefully its a negligible and acceptable shift.
3. Looks like lighting differences (even the shirt gets brighter/darker). The head texture hasn't been lightened or darkened.

Thank you for the update, crypticjoejing. I noticed the different brightness of the clothing too. I'm pretty sure that there are lighting differences between Tribble and Holodeck, but I don't know if the graphics people are looking into it at all. The last reply from someone at Cryptic was from tacofangs asking me to recheck my graphics settings. I did that and provided whatever technical information I thought was relevant. Other people are seeing the same thing, so it's just not me. The difference is most noticeable in the corridors leading to the holodecks at Starfleet Academy. But it seems that there are slight differences in the tailor as well. I don't know what else is affected.
well, I was checking out the tailor changes on the Risa event map before it got shut off an hour or so ago with some of the *redacted* that will be available during this years *redacted*. I unfortunatly was unable to finish my own look sees at the *redacted for the *redacted* *redacted* *redacted*.
But from what I did get a chance to see, its looking pretty decent so far.
I'll see what I can get you for more feedback..and can we please have access to the revamped *redacted* event map.

I'm sure it will be back soon. I just don't think they want anyone looking at it yet. You know how we can be.

I just wish they weren't exclusively restricted to Risa.
Seems like a lot of work for clothing items that can only be worn on a single map in the entire game.
I'd like to mention a bug I've found in the Tailor. I've reported it as a bug, as well as opened a ticket to Customer Service, but I'm hoping it might get some attention here since we're talking (mostly) about character heads.
I have a female custom alien character (Federation) that uses the Reman ears. Or should I say, used to. For some unknown reason, that option has disappeared from the Ears menu some time ago (I think it was about the time LoR launched?). It's still available for male custom aliens of all factions, but not for female aliens of any faction. I'm guessing that since it's only gone for females, it's a bug, not a deliberate removal.
The last time I checked on Tribble (I think it was after the latest build), the problem still exists.

I know right? From the screenshots I've seen there appears to be more than one. Just seems like a waste to me.

I don't want to establish a precedent to addressing all feedback as soon as it's mentioned to me, but I took a look and it was just a simple check box that was unchecked for Alien Gen. Soon you should be able to access the female Reman ears in Alien Gen.
Next, I hinted at something big on that same thread and we're excited to give you guys first peak.
Coming very soon to Tribble are 3 new head shapes and 3 new complexions for males and females! Also, these options are included for all human-like species.
As the examples below show, it allows for more effective ethnic diversity. That said, do not feel limited by that. All head shapes and complexions are completely interchangeable with each other and all existing head shapes and complexions. The inset images in the links below show a small sample of the possibilities.
Seriously, this is pretty huge and we hope you like it.
In the mean time, we'll be revisiting our costume presets and possibly re-evaluating our costume creator/tailor a little bit to take advantage of the new options. Also, we'll be revisiting existing NPC's in an ongoing effort in our goal to constantly improve your gaming experience.
Finally, let us know if you spot any errors and/or problems.
Being part of Caspian Rising (which earned a rep for our affinity for the tailor), and former author of a column which centered on the character creation process and tailor, I can't tell you how excited I am about this.

Thank you for looking into that for me! I'm glad it was any easy fix. I'm guessing that's on Tribble, to be pushed to Holodeck when Season 9 goes live?
crypticjoejing, will KDF eventually get access to the 7 of 9 implants that Fed and RR characters have? Also, will they eventually become available to male toons?
Even better question for KDF, will we ever getting all our costume slots working? Adding new options to the tailor in Season 9 is really quite pointless when you have 8 costume slots and the only ones you can use are the original and the one for joining a fleet. Better yet, can we at least get it acknowledged that this is still an issue instead of having every post about it ignored since it was reported "resolved" with the march 6th patch?
Thank you for the additional options! I'm all for ethnic diversity in general and facial variety in general to keep my characters and their officers from looking too similar to one another.

I realize this is absolutely the precedent you don't want to establish but I just thought I'd mention that Marauding BOs have no pants options (which broke their customizability some time ago... although apparently the miner pants fixes this).
And Fed Diplomacy BOs (Fed Gorn/Orion/Nausicaan) have no access to MACO in the new uniform dropdown nor do KDF Marauding BOs have access to Honor Guard.
I'm not calling for YOU personally to make a big revamp there but if any of these are the result of a simple checkbox not being tagged, people would adore you for fixing this.

While you are busy checking box, can you check the Romulan tatoo on Romulan female character, so we can use them ? Just like the tac officer of the R.R.W. Lleiset.
Always find weird the Romulan are the only one that can't use the Romulan tatoo^^
Now that you have some faces done can we finally get some body textures too?
I'd love to have my Alien in skirts and short sleeves but there's no body texture options to mirror what you can do with the face, namely my alien is an aquatic so I try to mirror the look of her having spots, like a bass....
Also people who try to RP Cardassians would probably love having a texture for body scales too.... Not just neck ones.
We don't want what the Feds have. We want the equivalent. We want fairer treatment. Concern, desire, greed to some extent, and passionate belief that the enough people would buy KDF items to make it worth Cryptic's while.

Amazing work. Thank you so much for adding these new heads and complexions.
This is going to add a lot more variety to our characters.
I'll take that... I always wondered what May Day would be like as a KDF tac officer.
My Bajoran character has a smooth nose and he's not happy about it.
"Sometimes you have to do things that you hate, so you can survive to fight another day."
I can confirm, happens to me too.
