I don't think it's as clear-cut as that. Far from it. Was what the Dad did honourable? Not really.
It's a debate I don't want to get into here, but it comes down to a question of whether killing numerous people (in the explosion), including himself, to save one child is 'honourable'.
I'd say it was it is relatable . Same goes for the things khan does to some degree.
But killing hundreds of innocent is never honorable.
The father, he did not only put his daughters live over his own, he put lice of his daughter over the lives of all those people.
But it seems to me that people keep confusing an intresting well written character with a nice person/honorable character.

I guess not, when you put it like that... It was definitely a deal with the Devil, but, the Devil kept his end of the deal...
I know, Khan was a bad guy, but to be honest, he was not written as Full On Evil, and actually written as a rather sympathetic character.
He was written as full on evil, but sympathetic as well. The two aren't mutually exclusive.
Norway and Yeager dammit... I still want my Typhoon and Jupiter though. JJ Trek The Kelvin Timeline is just Trek and it's fully canon... get over it. But I still prefer TAR.

'...I can tell you that we're not in the military and that we intend no harm to the whales.' Kirk: The Voyage Home
'Starfleet is not a military organisation. Its purpose is exploration.' Picard: Peak Performance
'This is clearly a military operation. Is that what we are now? Because I thought we were explorers!' Scotty: Into Darkness
'...The Federation. Starfleet. We're not a military agency.' Scotty: Beyond
'I'm not a soldier anymore. I'm an engineer.' Miles O'Brien: Empok Nor
'...Starfleet could use you... It's a peacekeeping and humanitarian armada...' Admiral Pike: Star Trek

I was going to say "Nah, Admiral Marcus was full on evil..." then I realised, Admiral Marcus was just full on crazy... Crazy dialled up to 11! But I don't see Khan as evil in this, but manipulated to be thus by Plot Necessity and Audience Expectation... In another context, he could be seen as simply someone trying to do whatever it took to save his crew, and could easily have been written as a hero (not that the TrekVerse could ever allow Khan to appear thus...)
