It's not just about time. One thing is for sure - I won't be griefed in the FE and there's no chance of failing it. I won't have to compete with my fellow player, wherein one or both of us is going to get frustrated.
The FE was also full of interesting little tidbits and things I missed first time around, so it was pleasure to go back and find them.
yeah... I don't remember any griefing in the 2nd and 3rd anniversary events.... I was always able to complete them just fine.
The chase the mini-q quest couldn't be griefed since only you could interact with the mini-q after it started running.
The shell-present minigame was a lot like scanning particles for the Academy event. Whoever interacts first gets it. Technically you're "competing" but the number of spawn points is higher than the possible number of players per instance.
O_o' You'd rather do a long mission 6 times than a short minigame 15 times? Um... which one takes more time?
An interesting mission repeated a half-dozen times at standard cooldown pacing is much preferable to competing against players to do a mind-numbing daily at inflated, one-a-day cooldowns over two weeks.
considering the actual number of people posting... not so much.
Still quite a good number of unique posts, many one-offs, overwhelming majority opposed to this change.

The past Anniversaries weren't grief-able because it used the standard FE mission template. However the reference I'm sure was to the Winter Event 'Line Jumper' headaches, and the fact that all it takes is a couple people who just run around, activating mini-Qs for the sake of consuming their use and ignoring the mini-game, to deny use of a portion of SFA.
Anytime you make something first-come activation in a public setting, certain people will either selfishly try to steal the node/cut in line/etc, or just go out of their way to aggravate others for their own jollies.
O_o' You'd rather do a long mission 6 times than a short minigame 15 times? Um... which one takes more time?
id rather do a lower number of longer, better thought out, and more compelling missions than 15 run in, click f, jump through hoops, and do a hand stand missions..
plus, long term grinds suck. im all for them (like the ce event grind) in the beginning, but then find myself barely wanting to do it towards the end... its a video game, it should always be entertaining..
I'm just going to say this again, but the new ships aren't new. they only thing new is the secondary deflector. Other then that this ship is alienating the Veteran and Life subscribers. Yes i agree grinding for the "free" anniversary ship sucks but i am one of few who will put up with it on at least one character. However i will not put up with it being basically the same as the 1000 day vet ships.
Excited about the Zero G suits, dont give a flying about the Mixed tech Destroyers, but its nice that those who want that sort of thing can get them, diversity is good.
Whomever the Dev is that designed this system... please don't design anymore systems, and please go take some courses and do some research into intelligent game design. Thank you.
Well thanks cryptic, ive been here since beta. I always look forward to the ann event, since ive spent so much time here since the begining. So i wanted to say thanks, "Thanks for f*cking me out of participating" that is.
Sick of pointless long grinds added to things that dont need them. You said you were "Listening" to us but yet again you listened but didnt HEAR us. Cryptic you seem to think we should play the game on YOUR time table, grind xyz in xyz days. Youve turned the game into a job. Guess what people hate that.
The overwhelming tone of this thread was against this stupid change and yet you push forward with it. I'm having shoulder surgery friday so grind isnt even an option for me, not that i would have any how after the winter event.
Way to take player appreciation and throw it in the trash. Not that its new with your company....
You dont make games for yourself you make them for the people playing them. Players dont want pointless grinds attached to events just to add grinds to them. And i dont care how special you made the ship, its the event that dictated the way the reward is given, you didnt want to "Give" away a kickass ship, then maybe you shouldnt have made it/released it for THIS event.
Has this been conclusively confirmed to be happening? or are people just spreading fear because of what one might have said to be the case?
The second one. It's like the academy thing where you run around and tag particles. Except that, unlike the particles you have a 5 bag limit instead of all you can grab before the (one hour) timer expires.
All I have to say is that last years anniversary minigames were the WORST designed "games" in any MMO I've ever played. Which means I'll not be doing any grinding outside of the Tuvok mission.
wait they are forcing us to do pvp to complete a daily for the anniversary?
Sadly I will Be skipping the anniversary event altogether as this daily mission of catching mini-Qs is one of the most annoying things in the game. And yes there was griefing, just like at the Acedemy event.
Last year a did it one time each on a few toon's just to get the balloon party popper. All I remember is having to race all around the map like some mad man, often getting to a Mini-Q too late as another player grabbed it, or worse - getting a Mini-Q and just like the particle finding a dud and continuing the mad dash and bash with other players.
Last year it was Bad and that was just for the limited party stuff that not every player wanted and that most did only once, this year as a daily I can only imagine the grief and say no thanks.
P.s. I am not a poster known for spreading doom and fear. This is just my personal experience doing that Mini-Q mission.
We should get the science ship for completing the anniversary mission. Why do they have to make us waste our time doing party patrol!? I hate that mingame! It's stupid and boring. I would rather work on completing the storyline missions.
Get rid of the quatiloons or w/e they are called. Put the ships on the feature episode as the final reward including the space piece sets we will have to rerun if we wish to get the full 3 piece set. And continue to have the little events going on for the anniversary. Don't make us grind something on the anniversary of the game.. its a bit cold to do that after we just finished doing a winter ship run.
You guys are doing good this year, don't deviate. Its actually ok to give things without making us run through hoops. I'm sure there is more grinds ahead. Allow us to have some fun for once = less grind

a friend of mine had the problem you describe. He has a poor connection and never could do the mini q thing and gave up playing this game altogether.
Please, God no. The PvP in this game is terrible. Let me grind in peace, either by myself or working WITH others.
I'm only going to be going after this ship on a single character, and it's already sounding terrible.
You don't have to fight other players for the mini-Qs in the sense of a shooting match. There are a limited number of mini-Qs on the map that are 'good' and you have to compete with everyone else to get one that works. So you will have 20 people on the map running around trying to grab the mini-Qs. So you are fighting to find one that works and is not a dud - 5 times over to get the daily reward. If you are not aggressive, just like in the Acedemy particle game - it could take a long time and lots of frustration to get your marks as new people.keep coming into the map.
I just got 8 tunes through the winter event, and now I find out that the anniversary ships are not the free give away, but another grind???
Not a fun episode like the Obelisk Carrier, with Worf was?
This is STAR TREK Online, NOT Star GRIND Online!
Come on Cryptic, your our only hope for this game! And I Love the Game. This game is different, than DND Online, or All the other roll playing games, . . . or at least it was, before you putting grinding into it.
I don't want STO to become like other grind based games. . . But I hope you folks will keep it a intelligent game of not only protecting the Federation, and the Empire, but also exploration and first contacts.
Please keep it Trek! Thanks for your consideration.

I did this stupid mini game my self during the second year i think and i hated every second of it I really want that ship but I DONT WONT TO GRIND!!!
I wanted to stop by and let you know we've been reading (and will continue to) this thread since it's inception and are considering your feedback -- it's not being fallen deaf ears and we appreciate the passion everyone has around the event and the new ships. Please just remember to keep your feedback constructive, as nonconstructive feedback is harder to consider.
I may have some additional information than this, but here is some more information about the event that I can share now:
As mentioned, you'll get 400 Qmendations on your first play through of the new FE.
The "daily" to get 40 more has taken 2-5 minutes on average during testing, and you either complete one mini-game or another for the daily.
The event runs for 28 days (we say 25+ as we also have maintenances, etc.)
With only 600 more Qmendations needed, you'll need to complete 15 dailies in those 28 days (around once every other day, or so).
We've got this information and much more planned in upcoming Dev Blogs, so stay tuned and thanks again for your passion and feedback.
Cheers,
Brandon =/\=
I just wanted to quote this original comment from Brandon.
And highlight that it seems that they may well have been listening but according to the latest blog post, http://sto.perfectworld.com/news/?p=1085941, it has indeed fallen on deaf ears and they will go ahead with this particular grind regardless.
What price credibility?
As I said before I will be giving this a miss. The grind (and that's becoming an ever present theme in the forums) when used to this degree is boring, tedious and certainly NOT fun. I will use my time more productively.

Indeed, which is better.
Sitting down at my computer seven times playing through what looks like an interesting FE........
...or.....
...doing that once and sitting down for 15 days chasing a mini Q.
105 minutes overall as opposed to 90 minutes.
I'd pay a 15 minute premium to get the grind over in half the time, while doing something actually fun.

That would be because, you didn't grind for the 2nd or 3rd Anniversary gift ship... you ran a FE.
Star Trek Online, Now with out the Trek....

Same here. Nobody griefed me while doing the one FE mission for the Odyssey/Bort, nor the one FE mission for the Ambassador/Kamarag.
But those weren't first-come free-for-alls that had to be run multiple times, either- just like how apples aren't pomegranates.
I agree with this
Running a solo race for 2 minutes is one thing, competing in pvp to complete the daily is something entirely different....

My opinion. Take it as is.

I really do not need to think about another boring grind so close to the finish of the winter event.
