Its like "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire"

    "You chose A for Krenim"

"But we don't wanna give you that!"

I doubt the Krenim will ever make an appearance because its what the players want and what they want is never usually what they get in this game. So basically, they started a poll with the sole intention of ignoring it because they wanted the Voth...

    Good job Cryptic!

Back in July when they revealed the State of the Game, I knew the deadly new enemy introduced in Voyager had to be the Voth. They had the means to get to the Alpha Quadrant, had motive to destroy Earth, and the technology to be a powerful enemy to fight. The Krenim simply didn't have the means or motive to be a threat. Of course, this was all before using an Iconian Gateway to a Dyson Sphere in the Delta Quadrant to fight the Voth.

Cryptic can either have us escape the Dyson Sphere or use another gateway to encounter the Krenim. They could even have the Krenim or any other race explore or invade the Alpha Quadrant due to their race gaining control of an Iconian Gateway. The Iconians must be pissed off at our Vice Admirals for activating every gateway. The Iconians are about control and this simple action will cause a ton of chaos for everyone.

As far as Cryptic denying us the Krenim because it won a poll and they did the poll to ignore whatever we said, I will point you towards the Romulans. The Romulan faction originally won a poll a couple of years ago for which playable faction we would like to see next. Therefore, it might take a couple of years, but we will see the Krenim eventually, but the Krenim is a npc faction so it will be a lot easier to implement than a playable faction. Therefore, I wouldn't be surprised if we encounter them by November 2014.

The servers didn't crash because a lot of people physically couldn't log on.

After this first weekend I'm sooo very happy the servers did not crash...at least there weren't any queues to get in the game...at least for me. Seeing this in the past 7 seasons before was something to write about (server crashes, queues, weekend emergency patches). First time ever for a "smooth" transition.

However, if you look at from a different perspective you could also say it was a disaster for Cryptic since not many people flock to STO as in the past 7 seasons to make server crash...disaster...depends on how you look at it. 49 pages dedicated to "S8 failure is something" but on the scheme of past seasons not very relevant...we shall wait and see :D

Knuckle has a legit complaint though. The theme for season 8 is swiss cheese in comparison to season 7. 7 had a well thought out story board, it all seemed to come together. But we have season 8 now.. A non violent race is now violent with crude animal-warriors and mech warriors. An entire galactic beacon of Omega particle generation and not a single borg drone.

These are very valid and the player at least deserves some support when going through this content at the very rudimentary level.

Geko has been defending his work from loyal foundry artists who covet theme all the way from random players who started chatting on forums about it. This is a pretty serious issue they need to correct for the sake of professionalism.
May good management be with you.

I would be very careful with this statement. Sure there are some Foundry authors who dream of being devs. There are others, like me, whose first mission was a basic "Um, yeah, here is how diplomacy should work in this game, and here is why it feels more like Star Trek than your stupid and idiotic miner's quiz...."

Some of us write Foundry missions for an entirely different Star Trek game than what this game has always become. We make a mission that we wish the devs could make.

In my mind, the highlight of season 8 will always be the Purity series (and a nod to Sphere of Influence).

Being a Foundry author doesn't = trying to be a dev. In some cases, it's very different.

Oh no. I don't think anybody writes foundry material because they're emulating devs. Quite the opposite. I went in today to polish my own projects a little more because of the frustration season 8 has left me. My intent was to write a story that can actually be appreciated or in this case, continue polishing those stories but found that the foundry was down due to the gateway porting or whatever.

Odd source of inspiration built off of dev failures but valid all the same. Nothing I had mentioned indicates otherwise.

There's not a lot of people clamoring to get online anymore. There used to be a waiting list to sign on. Usually people who have an eye for quality tend to look the other direction and not give it a second thought. You know, consumer behavior. Then there are stubborn folks like myself who think that despite a hostile attitude from the top lead, Geko can change for the better. Even if his own stubborn attitude surpasses my own.
May good management be with you.
