Are we part of the Mirror Universe now did we cross over... and somehow not even realize we have become what we were fighting against?
I remember people, including myself, asking this question 3 years ago. STO has never felt like Star Trek, with a few exceptions. Nearly 95% of my Star Trek-related feelings when playing this game comes from Foundry missions.
In fact, one of my joys in playing the recent Foundry FE was that it, in part, attempted to answer why everything is so non-Trek in STO.

Cool I think I will start playing foundry missions as well because it is so obvious that Cryptic and CBS have completely re-written the Prime Directive to included....
"If it does not make money, it can't be in Star Trek and the only part about "boldly go where no one has gone before" that they take to heart is that boldly means shoot first and never ask any questions....unless there is someone cowering in the rubble left from the battle.
I totally agree with this and everything the OP said, STO is getting way beyond everything Star Trek stands for and I can not for the life of me see how CBS can not see how PWE/Cryptic is completely abolishing the Prime Directive and replacing it with the Dictatorship Directive....Are we part of the Mirror Universe now did we cross over in the Sphere of Influence Mission and somehow not even realize we have become what we were fighting against?
Time to find a new game to play I think, cause this one is screwed.

Oh boy, more of this self-righteous "this isn't Trek" TRIBBLE.
Think on the following:
Ask the common Joe on the streets what he thinks about when someone says Star Trek and most will give some type of answer containing "James Kirk." And what is Kirk known for? Punching out people, TRIBBLE random women, and firing his ship's phasers. It seems that 7out of 10 TOS episodes contain random acts of violence. Hell, even Gene himself pitched Star Trek as a Western in space to NBC and Desilu execs. Sure, Trek had its moments (in fact, I believe a flaw with Trek is the constant shoving of unrealistic optimism in the viewers face) but the more action oriented TOS episodes, TMP era, the Dominion War etc are part of Trek, so try to get over your fear of anything action oriented.
More importantly, this is a MMO. Diplomacy in space just isn't going to work In an MMO. Stop being delusional in thinking anyone really want to play "Paris Conference: Space Edition." People want to fly around in exotic ships with their motley crew and blow TRIBBLE up. You want "peace and love" you might want to check out such games as Star Trek Judgement Rights, 25th Anniversary, Final Unity etc.
How the Devs see Star Trek, apparently:
Star Trek: The Original Grind
Star Trek: The Next Grind
Star Trek: Deep Space Grind
Star Trek: Voyage to the Grind

Actually one of the BIG reasons is that there are a LOT of us that simply can't get in to the game. There are at least 3 different (yet possibly related) issues that are preventing many from getting in at all... with, so far, no rhyme, reason or pattern to the issues... it's all "under investigation" <sigh>. I've never before had a problem logging in like this. Logged in fine the night before the patch. Since the patch... can't get past the character screen
I hear you. Ever since the launch, I haven't been able to even get to the log-in screen. this is what it would give me everytime:There was an error loading the login page. Please restart the launcher and try again..
Really annoying when I have to check on my fleet. I tried everything it told me to. Hopefully it is functional tomorrow after school
The previous 7 seasons and one expansion pack should have already taught you that they don't prioritize bug fixes, the KDF faction or smaller fleets very highly on any "to do" list.
And that neglect is really starting to show and getting on the nerve of the playerbase. Other MMOs have expansions that keep you busy for like 6 months with various things that keep you thrilled. STO's expansions are just grindfests that really go nowhere.
Meanwhile the other things they brag about like PvP, the Klingons, and the Foundry, are just neglected hobos on the side of the road with the sign "unemployed, due to cutbacks".
Really, I had high hopes for STO that I honestly can still think big. But not sure if its PW or if its Cryptic, but somewhere there is bad leadership that doesn't want to think big and just "give them kibble, they will be happy".
That's why I think LoR is as good as STO is going to get. It's all downhill from here. Unless Stahl buckles down and starts delivering content that has long-term appeal, that isn't grinding.
It's time to fully concentrate on the storyline, verses simply only expansion content that peeps get tired of, by the end of the third day of play.
I call for at least fifteen new Feature Episodes, sprinkled into any other new content, that ISN'T a one shot, with a famous trek voice. Star Trek might not work well, with Paris Peace Conference, verses blow this up, blow that up, bow your mother's klingon up, and then blow up yourself to respawn, 'but', I seriously feel a stronger stress on the official storyline, that holds no bars, challenges the player community's sensibilities, and show that Star Trek still is mainly about the 'story' of the realm of Star Trek, and seeing how we fit in it, is what the game should get back to.
I mean we didn't even learn 'why' the Voth were really over there, on that Dyson Sphere, and why we needed to bother sending resources to the 'other' side of the galaxy, while straining resources already taxed by the various wars and plots, that are all OVER the map. What about Borg FEs, showing what happened to the Queen, after being defeated in Hive, or what is truly behind the Tholians being so active in the Quadrant, after being so isolationist, for so long, prior.
I really, really feel, the storyline episodic detail, that 'was' Star Trek, with each hour we as fans watched, is what is lacking here lately, with all this bling ad pomp. I 'do' like that S8 is relatively stable, and interesting, but STO isn't based on just 'another' MMO, it's based on a series, that have captivated us as fans for generations now. Movies that made us have endless debates (i.e. geek arguments,) over which movie sucked, or rocked, or which captain is out captain, for what reason. Something in all this, is lacking a lot lately, in the Official sense, that thankfully the Foundry is there to help correct, but still, a sense that whis game is 'canon', as far as Star Trek itself is, IS something the game should put far more emphasis on.
I wont consider S8 a failure, considering how 'much' content LoR had to offer, and rather, a lot of shiny, with a lack of enough 'justifiable' substance. I'll get the new rep to T5, get the gear, and grind a bit on my other toons. But I WANT also, to see the content of the story, advance ALOT, over the next few seasons, since Star Trek is also about seeing, what is new, out there, and challenging conceptions (within artistic and esthetic reason.)
Seeing a season with released 'episodes', over each subsequent season, with even cliffhangers, and more, is my next major wish, for STO content, from here on out.
Hell, even Gene himself pitched Star Trek as a Western in space to NBC and Desilu execs.
Because Westerns and Cop shows were the 'thing' at that time .
Do you really think a 'let's hold hands and explore humanity in space through metaphoric space aliens' would have gotten him not one but two pilots green lit and filmed ?
As to Kirk , again a product of his time . Same as Sisko , same as Janeway .
If anyone stands out it's the elderly French guy who sounds quite British .
How do you think Gene sold that one to Paramount ?
How about 'let's send a diplomat this time and save a bundle on special FX' ?
More importantly, this is a MMO. Diplomacy in space just isn't going to work In an MMO.
If they can pull off exploration in a FE like the last one , or give the 'trick' option of diplomacy in the FE 'Frozen' (you can either fight Obisek's troops right then and there or Romulans a minute later) -- then that proves that it can be done .
Two options for a mission outcome (one peaceful , one combative) are not the end of the world to make , it just takes a bit more effort .
Other MMOs have expansions that keep you busy for like 6 months with various things that keep you thrilled. STO's expansions are just grindfests that really go nowhere.
Come on man ... they took us all the way to the Delta Quadrant ! And ... and ... -- I'm sorry , I can not continue with a straight face ... .

I am starting to lose patience with a great many things now. I have been pretty laid back about the whole season for all of its shortcomings, but now I am seeing some of the worst bugs I have ever seen in any mmo I have played.
Not only are these graphics glitches happening every hour or two, but the battery issue out of nowhere, the procs issue (why did this happen in the first place), coupled with the changes to the fleet roster view, the mediocre storyline content, the fact the tier 1 voth rep mission was a fricken cutscene where I didnt even DO anything, more insane power creep, a 5 mission intro to the sphere in which two of them are literally completed by entering a zone, the sheer lack of effort in mission writing, the doff missions that really sort of suck tbh, neglect of long standing OLD bugs, the return of OLD bugs from beta (ships in starbases), its just adding up.
>_> The first 6 hours were the only good 6 hours of this whole shebang. And thats just for those of us that have been able to even log in for more than a few seconds. I have fleetmates that havent even gotten past the initial loading screen.
Seriously?
I spent literally hundreds of dollars from LOR until the launch of season 8 on this game. I do what I do and that is my business, but take a good look at my transactions history cryptic. I am not spending one more red cent on this game (not your prepaid card zen promo, the lifetime sub i was going to buy next time it was on sale, nope not happening now, ive unsubscribed as a gold member, im just done)
You completely ignored most of our tribble bug reports and warnings of what would happen if you did XYZ, you didnt listen. You never listen. Then **** goes wrong. And still you dont listen to your playerbase.

now you now how i think of the game. it is not always doom but there is bound to be something wrong 100% of the time a new season is launched. i mentioned a few days before season 8 launched that the cryptic team should of pushed it back a week or two for proper testing on tribble instead of rushing everything at the last minute which is a bad habit.
when i saw season 8 i thought its another freelancer without the travel gates and jump nodes. nomad sphere in the background and typical npcs floating around. nothing new or imaginative, what is all the fuss about?
T6 Miranda Hero Ship FTW. Been around since Dec 2010 on STO and bought LTS in Apr 2013 for STO.
I really do not get the playerbase with this game. Seriously? I'm pretty sure that Cryptic must sit in their office and laugh at you as they get their new water-cooler installed or some other office luxury. Why are most of the STO community unable to see that to Cryptic, you are just walking Debit Cards.
You will pay! You have no choice! You have no opinion! Welcome to Star Trek Online.

Theyre honestly about to lose me as a player entirely. Im about fed up and tired of it. Love star trek, love the game when it works right... but its just become too much hassle and working around TRIBBLE that shouldnt be broken in the first place.
I am their core demographic as a F2P mmo. A person that comes late in the game and decided to start spending money on it. They cant afford to lose people like me, their lifers already paid long ago and will never sub up again because they dont have to.
They ought to be making a quality product, and I will be honest with you, they are starting to remind me of SOE in the days of the NGE change over, the biggest blunder in MMO history that cost the largest sci fi IP 3/4 of its playerbase overnight.

I do wonder, if Cryptic asked some of the people here to commit suicide, do you think they would. The power of "sheeple" runs strong with this game. Lets sacrifice another virgin at the alter of Cryptic studios and NEVER question our god.
Its not this game that is broken, its the free to play economy that has destroyed this game. Now Cryptic are in a constant cycle of, lets make more ships, more powerful then the last because people have to keep buying them. What happens when all the money dries up and people start to realize that this is just an empty shell of a game with no depth.
Cryptic, like the parasites in TNG "Conspiracy" will simply move on and invade another IP. Leaving us Star Trek fans to ask if this game was really worth it?
The man or woman that figures out how to quickly and accurately predict the who, what, where, when, why, and how bugs occur will end up with more money than all the computer billionaires combined.
in that case where can i clear the newly filled account?
