This wouldn't be bad except we just went through this with the last big update
This right here is the heart of the issue. Many of us in this thread have been here before. On Oct. 3 as a matter of fact... and here we are again, 6 weeks later, with the same crash and the same error message (not to mention the fact it was an identified issue on Tribble... you know, the TEST server). How is that even possible? I understand mistakes happen, I really do, but... seriously? I don't see a defense for this *shrug*
ok, it looks like there is no getting around it. so far iv tried steam and ark. did drivers, installed and tried on linux, then vista laptop.
others have re-installed windows. tryed other graphics cards. rolled back drivers, some have even tried making their own patches. its been tried on vista, xp, 7, ubuntu and linux mint.
one guy even tryed hacking. im afraid to say quite simply

no possibly it won't work either. I had another older pc and it didn't help me get in either... very disappointing!

Going on day 4, another patch, no resolution and the only message we get is " it is top priority". Really? I wonder how much longer that is going to be heard. Wonderfull PR as usual, all smoke and mirrors, all lies.
Losing faith in this so called "team" that is supposed to be working on this. Word gets around, not providing a service to paid customers is never a good thing.
A gold member(self) that payed their service expects.....service, not excuses.
I'm actually starting to enjoy my downtime; it's giving me a reason to catch up on things I've been neglecting recently in favor of STO. I've even been out in this big ground map looking place with green ground and a blue ceiling or something... no thermostat, though, it seems, cold place...
Honestly though, Devs, I don't want you guys to rush out a fix that'll just last for a few weeks, I'm perfectly happy (and will be happy longer) with you taking your time and making sure the problem is completely solved for now and in the future.

Personally, thanks to the team for their effort, and for this great game. And like many, can understand that they may have to deal with other major issues. The game has to be supported financially, otherwise there would be no more game, friends.

Have to admit.....it is....nerve wracking being stuck out of game. At least last time I crashed to desktop before getting to character select, it gave me that 'fatal error' message. This time I'm not even getting that.
Is it asking too much to insure that our game launchers work for everyone prior to a season launch (why have a test server if you don't test the system?) and that fleet grinds get reduced? What exactly is the rationale for punishing small fleets, yet again, with another pointless step? How about kicking whatever extra steps STO added right out of the airlock? When a game becomes work, it's a good way to kill excitement and lose players; many of my friends already gave up. We wanted fun, not grinding. If we had wanted grinding, we'd also want a real paycheck for it! Why not invest in fun? The summer event at Risa was a great step in the right direction!

I have tryed to rollback concept with Display adapters threw Device manager but it did not work.

I can't believe you guys, they are working their asses off to get us all back in the game, yet your asking for Handouts. That's bloody wrong, what I see here is a bunch of greedy people looking for something for free. When I play STO I work for what I get and I'm happy with it.
I suggest you all back off and stop asking for Handouts.
We should at least get the exact compensation for what we lost by not being able to play for X-days. So if this goes on for say a week, then we should recieve 105 Lobi+ Unrefined Dilithium equivalent to what we could have made each day (For me thats around 16000 Dil daily as I only do the Mining Daily regularly which for me would be 144000 Dil lost minimum and "Maybe" a few other quests or whatever). I'd also settle for a 10 pack of Lock Box Keys for our trouble as I have too many boxes (I have over 200 boxes across 7 characters) and getting rid of a few would be nice.
If we get just a "You can log in now" and leave it at that I'll likely delete STO from the PC (Yes even as a LTS) and simply never play again. As that would be a huge slap in the face for all of us who actually pay/paid to play.

TBH, yes, it would be nice to get something free, all I really care about is being able to get back into game and get some play time on. If they decide to give us free stuff because of this, so be it, that's up to them. My vote goes to getting us back into the game in the first place, free stuff or not.
I ground my way up on my characters to where I am, I can just keep grinding....once I'm back in-game that is.
Yes, the Risa summer event was awesome. And I do love PvE's. Only thing that really keeps me interested is also the daily events and foundry missions. On another note, Not a fan of being forced to grind though.
Im fine with loosing the FE daily lobi, also I'm fine loosing my daily dilithium but all I ask for is or them to extend the end date for the Solanae Tribble as I do use every tribble ive gotten from the test week. Not asking for any free stuff, and yes im a Gold subscriber pay my fee every month was thinking of getting Life but not sure on that ive been fine with Gold for what 3 almost 4 years now.

I change sector space and have a less than 50% chance of reaching the next sector, it's mostly CTD.
I can try to load Crystalline Catastrophe (or another STF) and CTD. Also, leaver's penalty, apparently for being AFK! :rolleyes:
I can try to click on FULLSCREEN in my video settings (for some reason it has changed to maximised window) and CTD.
So, I CAN get into the game... as long as I sit very still and whisper orders to my crew, boldly going nowhere and defending nothing. I am a gold subscriber so my dil is refined for me, but no lobi, missed my chance for more keys on discount and I just hope the Solenae tribble stays available like the Nukara tribble still is so I can get that on all my toons.
...Or I could do more laundry and housework.

Hey all. I've been having what appears to be the same problem as everyone (in my case, I'd get just past the CRYPTIC loading screen to the LoR loading screen and the game would crash with a Direct3D error). I seem to have found a workaround that is working for me, though, so I thought I'd share what I did.
So fair warning off the bat: I don't have nearly the technical knowledge to know why this worked, or which step did the trick. But FWIW, here's what happened:
1) After several crashes, I logged in using Safe Mode. (I should mention here that my crashing problems didn't start immediately after Season 8 dropped... the crashing only started the next day, after I'd tinkered with a couple of graphics settings.) During my log in, I also verified files.
2) I went into the graphics settings and undid what I had done earlier: I moved the overall graphics quality slider from the lowest setting to the 2nd lowest (I'd only moved it to the lowest because the Sphere was taxing my elderly video card), and I switched from Full Screen mode to Windowed Maximized. I never touched the Advanced settings.
3) I logged back in normally, and what do you know, no crashes.
Technical specs: Windows Vista 32-bit, GeForce 8200M G. Can't remember my RAM offhand, but given that it's a laptop and it's like 5 years old, I'm gonna go with "not much".
Like I said, I have no idea if any part of this might help other people, and I have no idea if this fix will keep working for me, but I figured it was worth sharing anyway. Good luck.
I didn't have this problem when Season 8 launched, I only ran into the problem since the latest patch. Quite annoying really, but hopefully they'll have a fix soon.

I downloaded the season 8 patch and the game crashed back to the desktop for last 4 days.
I can't play the game for last 4 days !!!!
