I want to fight Dinos more than I wanted NR in the game.
I thinking I will be needing one of those Mechanical Exosuits.
The experience needs to be something like this...
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8NaBHCuxqhA

How close are we going to get?

We all get a thousand zen for supporting this, right?

On topic, not crazy about Dinosaurs with lasers on their heads. It feels sort of like kung fu pandas in another popular game.
No, I am not who you think I am. I am someone different. I am instead a banana.

C`mon first its about crossfaction ships with breen 1st officers and jemhadar boffs and an unrealistic aproach to the war between feds and klinks who suddenly join agains a bigger threat while keeping ion fighting each other and now your comming up with dinosaurs???

I have to say it bluntly, i hate the idea. Trek was about exploration, space battles and moral discussion where you learnt something new everyday, the joy was in understanding and striving for a greater cause while trying to get away from thenbegative side in all of us.
Sure it sounds a bit dull but thats what made trick big. Sci fi effects and moral plays in a starship.
I know today things have to be darker and more combat centric as this sells best asfar as were being told by basicly all games on the market now and movies.
However, that game, that sto thing used to be fun, now it more and more degenerates into something utterly childish.
This isnt star wars with magic forces and little kids wielding glowsticks and jumping 50 foot gaps.
This is meant to be star trek, you know , the sci fi for grown ups, you know those who ave jobs and earmn money to spend on a game like sto.
Alot of your paying customers arent 12 anymore.

While im all for creativity, this is unoriginal and fails to give the voth uniqueness, it just makes them silly.
I know its a game, and it isnt there to be taken too seriously, sure, i get that.
We come here to have fun, and most seem to have fun blowing things up in space, enjoying an episode or a nice little foundry mission. Some dig the grinding because theywant the best stuff available.
Some have fun in pvp blowing each other up. So what, lots of fun in all of those.
Fun would be a game with less bugs, a wee bit more customization on the things that actually matter for gameplay and well thought out stories that not only tickles the trigger finger but also the mind.

I will give it a try but im quite upset about this stuff so i doubt i can enjoy it enough to play it more than once. My Zen will definitly only go to ships or dill for other stuff than this or as tips for some well made foundry missions.

This dino thing feels like kindergarten.
    Cruisers ftw!

Captains, I encourage you to read the blog first, instead of looking at images and basing judgement off them only. The Voth bio-engineered these Dinosaurs; considering their history and origins, they wouldn't be bio-engineering dogs and cats.

    Cheers,

    Brandon =/\=

My personal issue is it feels like a race as advanced as the Voth wouldn't have any requirement to engage in a conventional military sense especially to combat 'lower lifeforms', and this may have been an interesting thing to encounter. And then on top of this, the idea they'd use animals in combat seems terribly inefficient, as pointed out, its like Starfleet breeding war monkeys. Even when getting their hands dirty, there was no hint of a military, this seems like a very strange extrapolation.

On the other hand, we have limited knowledge of the Voth, and Doctrine and all that may dictate that they combat foes in such a way. Also, the whole plot (and its holes) were pretty mad anyway and most importantly, I'm really interested to see what you guys are able to do with them.

This is probably what annoys me the most about this whole scenario.

I mean, okay, STO's Starfleet has progressed technologically, but I've seen no evidence that their tech is as advanced as the Voth's - we certainly can't transport entire Starships!

What weapons do their ships use? What energy type? We didn't find out in 'Distant Origin' because they didn't use said weapons. And why was that? BECAUSE THEY DIDN'T NEED TO! It would have been a waste of their time and energy. This is a race that beamed an entire STARSHIP into a 'hold' on their city ship and then rendered it completely powerless.

Seriously - the Voth should be laughing at us, because IF they still had the abilities that they had in 'Distant Origin' Starfleet really wouldn't be much of, if any, threat to them at all.

Nothing about "...Dinosaurs with frikkin' Lazers on Their Heads..." screams a well thought out translation of the Voyager epsiode.
    zeratk wrote: »
"While they vastly outstripped Voyager?s level of technology,..." and still you will deteriorate them to another NPC-Rubbish.

    Furthermore:
"Not all combatants in the Voth force are so mundane, however! The Voth have bred and trained creatures we would only recognize as dinosaurs to use on the field of battle:"
You said you have watched the episode?! And still you think they would breed mentally deficient dinosaurs for combat? THAT DOES NOT FIT THE VOTHS DOCTRINE OF BEING THE SUPERIOR SPECIES IN THE QUADRANT.
And still i have to wonder how someone can have the idea to implement combat dinosaur with lasers mounted to their head to a Star Trek game...*sigh

    I got a few questions!

Can we get energy type specific fleet tactical consoles? Please give them to us.

Will we get dinosaur pets with the inevitable Voth Lockbox? Yes, it is coming.

Oh! Will the Voth rep have special antiproton weapons?

Also, Dinosaurs with laser beams on their heads. Dr Evil will be proud.

But...the Voth do share a little similiarities with the Tau, as pointed above.
Plus some of their ships resemble the cruisers of Chaos a little, just melted and without the razor edges.

I wonder if they'll say "For the Greater Goooooood!" when I shoot them.

On the terms of IP, Star Trek is all about crazy dumb things on TV with technobabble. Whale probes, Spock's brain, space TRIBBLE, cat people, Picard not killing the borg when he could do it, even if it would have saved a bazillion lives.... so dinosaurs with lazers on their heads is nothing out of the ordinary.

Anyway, pretty cool season so far. The people who say this is too ludicrous for Star Trek obviously need to watch more of it.
Let us wear Swimsuits on Foundry maps or bridges please! I would pay zen for that.

This is amazing and star trek has always had silly episodes in every serise this is trying to be ground and a little over the top at the same time, now the laser dinos may be a little extreem but also they're amazingly badass.

Cannot wait, cannon logics for this are streching it a bit but hey its new and fun looknig and i'm game.

Regardless of people's personal opinions, for those that will stick around and play the game after the Season 8 launch, if we are going to grind out the rep for this, we will have to face the Voth. Reading the blog, I begin to wonder how the hell this is going to happen with all the tools at their disposal. Somehow I keep missing what we have that will counter this tech, or this force.

That said, if these new foes have indeed reptile like qualities, wouldn't they be affected by cryo devices? For example, would using Cryo Grenades, slow down these troops (all that are not in the mech suits), or cause additional damage (i/e lower defense properties?). Thinking about current reptiles on Earth... They are not very fond of the cold. Have we factored this into the development of this new enemy?

Lol thats always made me laugh when i see it

Except the Voth never accepted that they came from Earth and got rid of evidence that they came from Earth when they adopted their current dogma sooo where did they get their dino DNA from?? I doubt Timmy Voth left Earth with is trusty pet T-Rex and his council of philosoraptors.

This is just a turn your brain off thing isn't it?

I really like it...bold and different. Imagine what the dinosaurs would say about monkeys with laser on their heads....they would find that amusing from a saurus perspective.

Let's be more open minded and welcome ALL aliens....how far fetched were the aquatics from ENT when they had those mega ships and WHALES piloting it. Humans or bipedals is not the only race in a real Star Trek environment...let's not be egocentric...after all this is StraTrek not the Confedarate southern states of America :D

These look awesome, and i look forward to seeing them in action.

I would love to know why trek fans are so opposed to anything different or out of the norm though?

an alien race is doing something that seems totally alien to us. something we would never consider. so its clearly not star trek? i guess everyone just wants a human with a prosthetic forehead slapped onto them that acts like humans.

Cryptic, please continue to give us things we have not seen before. I for one enjoy pushing things beyond the established norm.

    Here here!

Is this the tech from Neverwinter? Are we getting dinosaur mounts? I for one don't want dinosaur mounts. If this game was for kids I could understand adding the dinosaurs, kids love dinosaurs, but really dinosaurs! Perhaps we need someone running STO that knows Star Trek and likes it. These stupid ideas are making STO a laughing stock. Judging by the "Storming the Spire" event on Tribble, btw Elite mode, any ground combat will be a total yawnfest. Season 8 : The spire more like Season 8 : The Stupid. :(:(:(

    Space TRIBBLE,

Actually there was quite a clever reason for that. The space TRIBBLE explain the reasons behind the Federation prime directive and what happen when they are violated.
    space Greek gods,
Why not, why could greek gods be highly evolve alien beings that saw humans as a play thing.

Kirk being rode like a horse,

Kirk never actually shag anyone in the show, sure he kissed a couple of birds but never shag.

a virus that gets you drunk,
    Actually that not that outlandish.

We know parasites can induce certain behaviours in mammals, cats for example. Certainly patents with mental conditions have shown signs that they have been infected with the same parasite. So a virus cause someone to get drunk thus preventing them from being able to fine a cure or administer medications isn't that outlandish and evolution could stumble onto such a survival tactic, billions of stars trillions of planets, it not that unlikely.

a virus that turns you old,
Virus that rapidly ages you, if the virus attack tenimeres its very likely it would speed up the body aging process. May be a bit of dramatic to reduce this to just a couple of days. But it possible that such a virus could cuts decades of your life.

    space hippies,
a probe that talks to whales,
Why not, why couldn't an alien life consider wales to be more advance.
Spock having no brain...not silly :rolleyes
I will give you that one.

There's this game, it's called World of ********. They did something similar to Craptyc here and have been destroying their flagship game. Why? They started listning to the children, and not the players.

Now WoW is losing ground steadily because of it. Millions are cancelling their subscriptions. Perhaps you should rethink things...

Oh wait, it's F2P, no one cares...

But you are going to lose a lot of players over this, I can promise that.

Doesn't explain the Hirogan who decided to play as the SS on the holodeck.

You would figure the Hirogan being the renowned hunters they are would pick a group other than a bunch of poorly trained, undisciplined, politically appointed occupation troops to play as.

Kirk never actually shag anyone in the show, sure he kissed a couple of birds but never shag.
The Paradise Syndrome. He impregnated one of the locals. :P

Wales, advanced? Have you ever encountered the Welsh? Bunch of sheep shaggers and football hooligans!

    ...

    ...oh Whales!

Yea Whales are an advanced species with not even rudimentary technology, let alone tech that would allow them to communicate with aliens from across the galaxy.

Unless as SF Debris one pointed out we are meant to believe that Whale songs are so powerful they travel on groove waves though space.
