This is the part that most concerns me. I dont even use a spacebar keybind on my BFAW ship, and its ridiculously easy to use as-is. (not to mention boring)
Its like putputzapzap, dont even have to turn. zap. id rather spin and circle and juke and jive on any of my scorts or brel... at least that feels like im DOING something. Even the scimitar cannon pve machine is more "fun" to fly. (mostly due to hysterical powerslides 20k past a target)
People like you, sir, are the reason why BFAW beam boats are thought of as slow, toothless spam blasters. You plod along, barely moving, and spreading your beams all over the place to no effect. Even in 1v1s, you just sit there and let the enemy come you you - often with disastrous results: Spikey escorts timing your TT (or lack thereof) and RSP cycles to find just the right moment to insta-pop you.
I take a different tack (pun in tended) by constantly moving - turning, adjusting speed, dead-stop-to-full-engines, never flying in a straight line - and using my APO and EM to swing my cruiser's fat butt around and line up as many beams (or less damaged shield facings) towards the enemy as I can.
Nothing takes the spike out of an escort faster than dipping outside their narrow DHC firing arcs while at the same time hitting them with everything you've got in a constant pressure barrage from which there is no escape short of moving out of range.
And god forbid you should do the unthinkable and actually chase after a wounded escort jockey. No, your job is to stay put, take the punishment and hope you can wear them down before they collapse a shield facing and leave you scrambling to repair your tattered hull.
RCK, your post kind of made me chuckle about some of the complaints about folks in beamscorts. Yes, folks in beamscorts moving outside the 45 arcs of cannonscorts have been accused of exploiting for doing so.

just be glad they'll never introduce "pure" flight mechanics with 360 degree turning arcs in all directions (--> no more stupid circling kinda "haha, can't shoot at me even though i'm in range")...

Youre assuming just a wee mite too much. I can fly it the same way, I just rarely if ever need to. The Torkie is quite a nimble little thing when it has to be.
Hell ive sat nearly fricken still in the middle of a massive escort on escort dogfight, and just fawed while eating a sandwich. Still outscored ALL of them for damage (yes I know, BFAW lolz damage chart inaccuracy cause AOE blahblahblah but they felt it every time they got near me.)
I should note my BFAW ship is also an engineer. Escorts dont just "instapop" me. No single escort can. it would take at least 2, and probably more like 3. Nothing is more satisfying than absorbing someones alpha barrage, and healing up to 100 in two button pushes. Seriously.
Its like you want a medal or something for being an innovator? I been using this build for quite a long TRIBBLE time. I just was told "engies are worthless in cruisers in pvp" and took it in a few times for the lulz, it did a hell of a lot better than i expected. I am half tempted to respec it into a dedicated healer or something. But who knows. For now its just fun to take it in for easy mode chillin.
Thats why I get snarky about beam boats. They are literally the easiest damn things to fly. (did you seriously hint at me being so stupid as to not use TT?)

You just gave me a wicked idea: Pull my FPE out of mothballs and put all of my cruiser gear on it. Same console layout as my FAHCR, strong engineering Boff layout, and tanky enough to stay in a fight. If I use the same tactics, but with a much more maneuverable ship, I could really wreck havoc.

It's season 8 time...nothing will get done much on anything else till season 8 comes out because they're all busy. The tykens rift and gravity well changes came in between LoR and now because Hawk finally had some free time.
I just love how the "normal" set up is 2 JHAS, 2 Wells science vessels and a recluse with what I assume to be (as I can't watch the video just see the opening screen) Elite Mesh Weavers.
I mean seriously, these are hundreds of millions of ec worth of ships, no normal player will be able to afford them. That's without even taking the magnifying glass to what exotic doffs and boffs might be employed by them too.
VD pointed out a long time ago in a thread far far away that we're the outliers here with all the fancy toys and the best ships etc. We're not who this game is balanced around both in PvP and in PvE. Most other players would be lucky to even have 1/10th of what's shown there.
Sorry it sucks for everyone at the top end of their fields but it's what the devs are doing to make this game survive in the long term...or till their exit strategy comes to fruition.
also, wtf, I can't spell screen but fruition, no probs there, starting to think my speelchecker is faculty.
btw, single beam scimitar on tac is nasty. a friend killed 3 people on decloak with that **** and faw.

Wait so the Sad Panda's were a pug team...all from the same fleet?
Or was the nova core/inner circle the pug?
If I'm being honest it looked more like an OPvP game which I would hardly call a pug.
Also I think you just completely missed what Rylan was saying. It's ok though, you're obviously being forced to but all these expensive ships like everyone else, we should get interpol to investigate where Cryptic have you chained up forcing you to get all these ships and veteran boffs to squeeze out every last bit of advantage you can.
p.s. Surprised Rylan didn't spot the faculty error =P

PvE is joke that requires nothing expensive to complete in a timely fashion.
Very well, I want to see you solo Hive Onslaught Elite within 15 minutes. If you succeed, I will pay 100 million EC for the effort. If you fail, I want you to apologize in the forum and tell everyone you are sorry and don't know what you are talking about.

PvE is joke that requires nothing expensive to complete in a timely fashion.
Heck, you could use all Mk XII purple and end game gears, any gear of your choosing in fact, yet I am confident you will die within 5 minutes of the Hive Elite and the Queen will add you to her Collective.
Don't want Hive? No problem. How about soloing the Crystalline Entity event going right now? Surely, those tiny Tholians + the CE are nothing compared to your mighty ship, right? We will all sit there and watch you solo it. After all, you did say, PvE is a joke, so why can't you prove it?
I remain empathetic to the concerns of my community, but do me a favor and lay off the god damn name calling and petty remarks. It will get you nowhere.
I must admit, respect points to Trendy for laying down the law like that.

Of course they are easy it's still pve. On ground I can imagine the mob groups to be a bit tougher than the tholian ground mobs. So much so that I may even have to take one hand off my d__k to actually fight the boss groups.

You're silly. And you proved my point exactly.
You have to come up with contrived scenarios just to come up with challenge in PvE. If the content didn't suck so bad, you wouldn't have to make up stupid **** like that.
And my original point was referring to the lack of necessity of elite gear to finish PvE content in this game, which is completely true:
it is true that FAW has become more powerful than in earlier days of sto but it is not because of the FAW itself but due to a considerable boost of critH and critD (Rom boffs), the capability of reaching an extremely high overcap of weapon energie up to 175 and more, usage on ships having 5 tac consoles like the scimitar and last but not least strong bleedthrough (Elach disruptor proc, BO doffs, nukara t2, dem)
But FAW isnt op because u are still able to counter it. It might be considered op in case there is no counter at all with boff abilities.
Btw hive is still doable on elite difficult u can manage to solve the mission with all optionals if u have 3 SCI healers (subnuke, scan and crowd control helps alot) and 2 escort with very high dps in your team.
I was involved in this situation yesterday and it went well.
last i knew, bfaw was originally for shooting anything and everything withen range of all of your beams, while cutting the beams in half to get more beams. you are giving all your targets your dps, to share
We get those ships to remain competitive in premade games.
The only part of the game that has any relevance to most veteran PvP players in this game.
PvE is joke that requires nothing expensive to complete in a timely fashion.
My two cents (from a complete noob in the pvp world):
First PvE is not a joke: Try even remotely doing runs in the times we do them in, then we can talk.
Second, to ignore the recent impact we have introduced into PvP is simply being intellectually dishonest. Before Naz started his thread, PvP was a cannon world--now it is almost all beams. He ran up against a group of us PvE "jokes" out just entering queues for fun (5 tacts no healers) and was floored by what we did. Instead of crying or complaining, he immediately sought us out and we shared our builds, and techniques, etc. And now PvP has transitioned into a beam world mostly.
Interestingly, we speak of FAW, but in reality, we really don't use FAW that much at all (we did, but feedback pulses and sensor scambles were causing us to kill each other off very quickly). We ran into a powerful sensor scramble at first, and one of our guys went full alpha FAW at that exact moment and vaporized 3 of us almost instantly. We only fire off FAW ability now mainly to probe for weaknesses and to clear spam--outside of that it is simple beam fire.
The real issue you guys are experiencing is massive dps, accompanied by sustained pressure. With beams, positioning falls by the wayside as you can't zip in and get behind us for massive damage, we are still mostly tagging you. And other ships join in from all angles to put massive pressure on you. You enter our sphere of attack, it is difficult to last long as all ships can turn on you in an instant and have 5 high dps boats on you.
We are not saying we are unbeatable by any means what-so-ever. We are actually astonished we are doing as well as we have been. A counter strat will develop and then we will change our tactics, etc. ALL of which is only good for the game in general.
We also fully understand that a proper premade--spec'd for us--can clean our clocks unless we are spec'd to counter. But I do find it funny when I see in the zone chat all the crying going on when someone comes up against us.

pvp is still a cannon world, a lone beam boat is just about harmless still becase it does not mater how strong DPS can get if a person can so casually counter it at the same time with HPS. damage delivered in a front loaded way cant be countered by heals as easily, especially becase reaction time is an actual factor and the spike heals are weaker then the over time heal. this is why a successful lone puger is using cannons not beams. with 3 or more beam boats glued to a person at all times, with no way to get out of their fireing arc, then the DPS becomes far to great to ever handle. and thanks to FAW, its impossible to have enough heals to go around.
like all things, if you spam it with enough people its an auto win, beams and FAW arent unique in this regard, in fact GW is whats ruling/ruining pvp at the moment, not beam premades. i really hope it wasn't actually news to naz and other veterans how powerful beams could be, i suspected the play style that came with it was to boring to them to use. from the huge scoreboard numbers alone it should have been obvious that if you got around the problem that the damage is being spread around harmlessly, by having several people FAWing, that it would stop being harmless and be the highest effective pure DPS thing there is. ive run maxed DPS beam boats since season 3, and have often been scoffed at for it, but i recognized their potential forever. i just never bothered making a premade featuring it, i knew it would be to cheese and didn't want it to take over. just a mater of time i guess.

it is true that FAW has become more powerful than in earlier days of sto but it is not because of the FAW itself but due to a considerable boost of critH and critD (Rom boffs), the capability of reaching an extremely high overcap of weapon energie up to 175 and more, usage on ships having 5 tac consoles like the scimitar and last but not least strong bleedthrough (Elach disruptor proc, BO doffs, nukara t2, dem)

Fine, here I'll clarify:
PvE is a joke outside of contrived scenarios that players have to make, because Cryptic does not care to give challenge to PvEers.
pvp is still a cannon world, a lone beam boat is just about harmless still becase it does not mater how strong DPS can get if a person can so casually counter it at the same time with HPS. damage delivered in a front loaded way cant be countered by heals as easily, especially becase reaction time is an actual factor and the spike heals are weaker then the over time heal. this is why a successful lone puger is using cannons not beams. with 3 or more beam boats glued to a person at all times, with no way to get out of their fireing arc, then the DPS becomes far to great to ever handle. and thanks to FAW, its impossible to have enough heals to go around.
like all things, if you spam it with enough people its an auto win, beams and FAW arent unique in this regard, in fact GW is whats ruling/ruining pvp at the moment, not beam premades. i really hope it wasn't actually news to naz and other veterans how powerful beams could be, i suspected the play style that came with it was to boring to them to use. from the huge scoreboard numbers alone it should have been obvious that if you got around the problem that the damage is being spread around harmlessly, by having several people FAWing, that it would stop being harmless and be the highest effective pure DPS thing there is. ive run maxed DPS beam boats since season 3, and have often been scoffed at for it, but i recognized their potential forever. i just never bothered making a premade featuring it, i knew it would be to cheese and didn't want it to take over. just a mater of time i guess.
