I don't think JJ ruined Trek, as the original work all remains, uncorrupted by his influence. I do think he's a mediocre, coat-tail-riding revisionist hack who gets more credit than he deserves, and find Trek09 irritating for the afore mentioned reasons. Under no circumstances will I be paying a penny to watch Into Darkness. I refuse to go to the cinema to watch it, refuse to buy it on DVD and will either wait for it to come on Sky, or just stream it off the net. Why? For the simple reason that given he created an entirely new alternate Trek universe, the fact that the best he can come up with is ripping off, er I mean 'making homage to' ( ) what is widely regarded as probably the most iconic of the original Star Trek movies, rather than using that entire universe of creative possibilities, is a truly sorry state of affairs, and not something I am willing to pay to subject myself to.

    its a alternate universe....

And each of the actors was allowed to pick a trait from the original cast and play them as they interpreted them.

Still, when Nero came in, it changed the timeline, still making it a alternate universe...

Enterprise is where I started feeling that Gene was rolling over in his grave by the end of its run. The '09 film rekindled the fun of the original, sucks I have to wait to see the second.

"Yes, the movie is set in an alternate universe, but it's one that has diverged because of a specific event: Nero's attack on the Kelvin. That is, this timeline would have unfolded exactly as we're familiar with, except for Nero's actions. That means that all things should have remained consistent with the original canon, unless it's reasonable that Nero's actions might have changed things.

For example, Nero's actions would definitely affect Kirk's life. However, it would not have had any effect on Spock's childhood, or the procreation of the Chekhov family. Nero's intervention in Kirk's life wouldn't have caused Spock to start snogging with Uhura. Chekhov would not have been a contemporary of Kirk or Sulu or Uhura, he was a good 5-10 years behind them, and Nero's intervention in Kirk's life would not have changed that."

ever hear the saying that a butterfly flapping it's wings in San Diego would cause a Tsunami in Japan...we dont know the full nature of how Nero's appearence affected the universe.

Agreed but we don't know what effect something like this would have on the timeline, it could have a ripple effect on everything that happened from that point on.KKHHHHAAAANNNNNNNNNNN..... you beat me to it. :p

Every five minutes he reminds the crew he is a klingon warrior in which a random crew member must reply "You are a Star Fleet Officer"

I really dislike the argument that those who don't like the film because its too flashy will only be happy with a two hour talkfest.

Please see Iron Man 1, a perfect example of balance in movies. Into Darkness could have been just as much of a fun thrillride and pulled in great story and character development. But, it was rushed and honestly kinda felt more like a side project of Abrams, which is the problem. It should be more than just a "Oh yeah, probably should get on that now" kind of thing.

Kind of how I dislike that some of the nitpicks people have had with the JJ movies can be found the series and other movies.

If people don't like it then fine. I have no problem with that. But it people come up with complaints that happened in TOS then i question their point of view.

Every big movie is only for the money. If you want movies that are important to the creators then you'll need to focus on small-budget indy flicks. Big summer movies are about making big summer money so the studios can afford to make a few smaller movies that flop. :)
STO is about my Liberated Borg Federation Captain with his Breen 1st Officer, Jem'Hadar Tactical Officer, Liberated Borg Engineering Officer, Android Ops Officer, Photonic Science Officer, Gorn Science Officer, and Reman Medical Officer jumping into their Jem'Hadar Carrier and flying off to do missions for the new Romulan Empire. But for some players allowing a T5 Connie to be used breaks the canon in the game.
