JJtrek imho is garbage with lens flares and more lens flares...and yes more lens flares to cover up bad acting and ludicrous lack of detail like technology.

Not to mention the retreading of WoK JJ Abrams took a dump on star trek and served it to the masses but the masses have gotten used to the garbage hollyweirds been dishing out the past 2 decades.

So im not surprised alot of sheeple love it its exactly what to expect to see alot of young people used to this type of garbage so they watch and buy and watch some more.

Anyways for what its worth after Nemesis (im not going into that pit of despair) JJTrek 1 was a good departure from picard and his wanting to hug the universe mentality.

But i wished JJ abrams wouldve done a sequel or addition to not this whole alt universe crapola he is dishing out.

But on one hand us old school trek fans most will hate it but on the other hand new trek fans will love it and i am happy to see new trek fans discovering trek through abrams version For that im glad there is JJtrek.

JJtrek is for the younger audience and people new to the trek universe but for us old timer trek fans alot cant stand it.

This new movie didn't use many lens flares at all. They used a lot more dark moody lightning. Because along with the new villain ship being big, big, big AND DARK, the movie is called Into Darkness.

The Lens flare jokes can stop. They were boring in 2010. They don't fit this new movie at all. Move on to making dark jokes or magic blood jokes.

Yes, let's totally pretend that Star Trek was perfect before 2009.

Listening to the guy reviewing those movies was excruciating. I personally thought that Generations and first Contact were good. I also think that the first JJ movie was a reboot of Nemesis.

It grows on you. Especially if you keep with it and watch him fillet Lucas in the Star Wars prequels as well.

I still like Generations, but the missile bit he points out is pretty damn hilarious. I think he generally likes First Contact. Well compared to what he says about Insurrection and Nemesis.
I also think that the first JJ movie was a reboot of Nemesis.

You lost me there. Nemesis was all about Picard clone, Riker's marriage and leaving to captain his own ship, Data's death, B-4, and other odds and ends. None of that showed up in Star Trek 2009.

Seriously man, the lens flare jokes have past their expiration date. There's a new JJ film out. And it's dark. So not a lot of lens flares. Into Darkness. There's dark ships. Dark sets. Dark planets. Darkitty dark as they slip into the darkness.

    And magic blood.

    And dark overtones.

And dark thoughts. Dark actions. Terror. Dark decisions. A dark-ish nightclub. A volcano goes dark. There's a landing party on a dark planet where you see villains appear in darkness backlit. And a fight in darkness.

The lens flares, let them go. JJ did.

But yeah seriously man you cant mention JJTrek 2009 without talking about lens flares since the movie was full of them.
I wasnt trying to be funny or crack a joke about the overuse lens flares i was trying to express just how annoying they were.
I to tire of the lens flare jokes they are like gorn jokes now

Anyways i cannot say anything about the new film except yes i am disgusted that he retooted WoK which is why i did not bother wasting my money on it.

I just cracked out my old VCR and popped in a VHS of WoK and had myself movie night :)

    ROFL :D

I bought my VHS of WoK and the back in 1987 and its still playable so every now and again i dust off my old VCR and crack out my old VHS's of the original trek movie trilogy.

I bought each movie individually not in the box set id try to get them as soon as they came out but for some reason it took a few years after WoK released for me to find a copy at a local K-Mart.

And before anyone says it it was 1987 BEFORE THE INTERWEBZ :D

His movies are just a alternate universe Star Trek.
Let me stop you right there. Wrong. The JJ-verse is an alternate timeline, not some random parallel universe, caused by the incursion of the Narada and Nero-the-mad-Romulan attacking the Kelvin and killing Kirk's father.

Everything before that point of divergence must be (not should be, but must be) the same. After that event, some things will be changed but it must make sense; e.g. Jim Kirk turning out different since he grew up without a father is explainable and I can accept that.

Other changes done for no damn reason other than JJ didn't want to be bothered with doing it right I cannot accept. Yes it's just a movie and yes it's fiction, but it's science fiction, not a fantasy flick. Things don't change just by magic, we expect it to make some sense.

    So JJ-Trek presents us with:
Kirk is an A-hole because his dad got killed. Like I said, I can accept this.

But because Kirk's dad died, that means Spock is now in a relationship with Uhura, with whom he openly shows emotion in public?

Because Kirk's dad died, that means Sulu is now an inept helmsman? (Releasing the "parking brake" isn't taught at the Academy? groan)

Because Kirk's dad died, that means Scotty is now a manic clown, oh and also a TRIBBLE-up disciplinary case?

Because Kirk's dad died, that means Engineering looks like a large-scale brewery from the 20th century? Oh wait, that's because it is!

Because Kirk's dad died, that means hand phasers don't shoot continuous beams, they shoot what looks like pellets that have to be "reloaded"? (I've seen more realistic looking props in toy stores.)

    It just... makes... no... sense.

The only good thing I can say about JJ-trek '09 is Karl Urban. His McCoy was brilliant.

FC is a good popcorn flick, I'll give you that. Generations isn't good for anything. It's a totally pointless movie wrought with junk science, TRIBBLE humor, a weak story, and the destruction of the Enterprise D.

I also think that the first JJ movie was a reboot of Nemesis.
    Which is wasn't.

    my reasons for hate of jjcrapverse;

    1. destruction of Vulcan - what point does it serve?
    2. kirk's father naming his child instead of focusing on his mission on the ship.
    3. the crew are all cadets, problem is that in all indications even with a alternative universe, things would of continued as they should which means the only point i can use to prove the fact that Chekov was at least a good 15 years younger then a few of the senior officers from the prime universe. Chekov should not of been in the film at all and i would of doubted that Uhura should of been as well.
    4. Spock illogically talking to his past self about the responsibility of command and the younger self utterly failing in that position.
    5. younger spock showing so much emotion you would think he is a romulan..

thats just a few of a very, very long list of things that is wrong with jjcrapverse. the whole thing never made any sense.

Well, I can say that Abrams' didn't kill Star Trek, but he certainly did a number on the fanbase. If you thought Trekkies bickered too much before... :P

Can someone explain why people are denying that an alternate timeline exists? It's getting quite confusing and...stupid.

    Was I the only one:

    1. Who was reminded of "Return of the Jedi" when we see Kirk in the power core. (Falcon Death Star trench run)

    2. Painfully reminded of "Attack of the Clones" during Khan and Spock's sky car chase. (Anakin and Obi-One chasing Bobba Fett)

I hadn't planned on going but changed my mind at the last minute. Now I'm thinking JJ Star Wars will be just as bad as Jar Jar Star Wars....

why i think the alternative timeline doesnt exist is because i consider it non canon, i frankly dont care what some studio has to say on the issue either, its as simple as that.

Just out of curiosity, if the studio that made the film and the filmmakers themselves aren't what determines canon for you, what is your criteria for canon? Is it just the stories you like? If you wrote a very good fanfic, would you consider that canon?

I'm sorry, but I find some of the bickering in this thread kind of pathetic and somewhat childish.

If you don't like JJ Trek, don't bloody watch it and don't blast those who do.

    Simple.

It's not TOS, it's not TNG... it's a reboot from a new director who's bringing Star Trek into modern times to be a success with a younger audience. If you don't like it, keep watching TOS and keep quiet. I love TOS, TNG and JJ Trek... it's all fun.

By the way, box sets on Amazon continue to rise in price... a sign that more people are buying them perhaps after being introduced to the IP through JJ trek.

Quite your whining and get on with life, if you don't like it don't keep going on about it.

Well, to be fair, if there's any place that's appropriate for Star Trek fans to furiously debate Star Trek, that place would be a discussion forum specifically devoted to Star Trek.

I love the new Star Trek movies, but the angry posts bashing it don't bother me because at the end of the day, we're all on the same team. We're all just people who are passionate about Star Trek.

Don't confuse angrily typed posts with the people who post them. I seriously doubt any of them are screaming "ABRAMS!" in the streets. I'm assuming they just enjoy having heated debates about it on the forums.

Naked Skin, eh. I am hoping you talking about those awesome female outfits from TOS. Those showed more skin than either of the two new movies.
