This is insanely terrible. Pause, unpause, pause, unpause, disconnected /repeat. Using in game /netgraph 1 shows the pausing as well and peaks of 20000ms. I called my cable company and we ran thru a battery of tests. Everything passed and was exceptional my house in Pocatello Id to their server in Pheonix, Az.. download 52mbs/ upload 2.5mbs. Ping was 48ms. Tracert to the game server below doesn't show any problems. The gameserver just can't handle the bandwidth of running 2 games at once. Heck it only rarely ran 1 game ok. Why the heck are we running 2 games on a server that can only rarely run 1 game?

Why do I continue to put up with this. I was going to try Neverwinter tonight. Now it's pointless as i'll just get more pissed off. This is called shooting your left foot. Or biting the hand that feeds you. Seriously this really shows how incompetent people are. Does this company want to stay in business or not? Someone in authority needs to take a hard look at this and if he can't do anything about it i'd suggest they find someone who will.
To conclude that the issues are due to Neverwinter seems...rash.
What he said above......honestly guys nobody has a clue what may be causing the problems in STO for the lag, but trying to blame it on other Cryptic games and betas? I really think some ppl here need to learn just a tad how server farms work for mmo's LOL.
"If everyone used Macs, we'd be working on how to get to Alpha Centauri rather than how to get to Mars."
That doesnt help, and it was no exaggeration. Just spend a little time in the EliteSTF channel and see how many other people are complaining about it.
You may not of experienced it as of yet, as it only seams to effect the instance servers for stfs / planets and such, Social hub wasn't too bad, only about a 3sec delay on selling multiple items each time.
But go into an STF with a lot happening at once, like Starbase 24,and feel the pain.
This was what happened to Champions online when STO first started. The server actually crashed, i mean this is no way near as bad as then, but seams like the lesson wasnt fully learned, which is a pity.
A lot of people in my fleet, Task Force Spectre, already said its unplayable and logged off.
I got a inventory lag too but im not big over that. STF's i have played recently and have a had a small amount of lag but not anything big.
EliteSTF i use to listen to but not anymore, asked for help one time and everyone ganged up on me and called me a noob and told me to be quiet even though i only asked if a certain weapon was good in STFS. So I would not know of complaints, considering im seeing people complain about it on forums a lot, lag seems to be a issue with other players.
Is this just happening in STF/ event maps? Or everywhere?
Cheers,
Brandon =/\=
I have noticed extreme lag, to the point where the game is absolutely unplayable, on the following maps:
- Tholian Red Alert in Tau Dewa
- Big Dig
- Defera Invasion Zone
- Nukara Prime (especially when doing the two Hard quests)
- Crystalline Entity
In addition to that, I'm noticing an extreme delay when zoning into the sector patrols, though I haven't noticed any problems in solo missions beyond that.
As for this being a user-end problem, I seriously doubt that. STO isn't the only game I've played online today, yet it is the only game with which I am experiencing any issues with lag.
you can uncheck zone chat in your chat options, also 30 freezes in a stf, that has never happened to me or anyone else i know in my fleet.
if its a exaggeration, i apologize, but 20-30 freezes, wow...
I admit, that there is some lag, but not big for me.
It's not. When I first did CE about 6 hours earlier my ship went all over the place which made for really interesting looking warp plasma trails. I did get some 30 second (or more) freezes (but chat's still working normally) and then ship getting thrown around like it was possessed. At one point I flew 15km away from the CE in a second. Few hours ago it was already a lot better.
...talking to players is like being a mall Santa. Everyone immediately wants to tell you all of the things they want, and you are absolutely powerless to deliver 99% of them.
Is this just happening in STF/ event maps? Or everywhere?
Personally I had issues with STFs and other public matches, like the Crystalline Entity, while hubs such as ESD/First City, as well as Tribble seemed to work fine.
Had to wait a while for the launcher to let me start the game though (Engage button didn't appear).
I've never experienced such a lag before in STO. It was bad at times, but today certain instances happened to be completely unplayable. One time I had to wait a whole minute for the UI to load, but I still wasn't able to control the ship properly, as it was acting like crazy. The moment I went back to First City the game ran fine.
I must say im really disappointed with the impact of the Neverwinter beta on Star Trek Online, i would of thought you would of learned your lesson from when you had star trek online beta, you totally killed Champions online, to the point the server crashed multiple times.
Come this neverwinter beta, star trek is dying, why on earth have you not used a separate server and bandwidth is beyond me. Yes i understand financially it may not of been possible, but come on.
Really very disappointed, and i hope in good old fashion this is addressed asap. Its making the game almost unplayable, except for social aspects. 30sec freeze lags in an stf are not acceptable.
We're still investigating this, but we don't actually believe this to be related to Neverwinter's Open Beta launch today as we don't believe this to be a network issue at this time. The launcher problem this morning was a separate issue that affected all Cryptic games and any PWE games that use a Cryptic launcher (e.g. Blacklight).
Thanks for your patience as we continue to investigate.
Logged in this evening to enjoy some STO to find that I and seemingly everyone else are experiencing severe lag to include freezing and or rubber banding. Its nearly unplayable. It would be greatly appreciated if we could get this resolved. Thx

We appreciate your vigilance. May this glitch die soon and painfully!
Do you guys know if this is related to the problems people are having with Tribble?
"Critics who say that the optimistic utopia Star Trek depicted is now outmoded forget the cultural context that gave birth to it: Star Trek was not a manifestation of optimism when optimism was easy. Star Trek declared a hope for a future that nobody stuck in the present could believe in. For all our struggles today, we haven’t outgrown the need for stories like Star Trek. We need tales of optimism, of heroes, of courage and goodness now as much as we’ve ever needed them." -Thomas Marrone
Don't know if this is related, but the launcher seems to be a bit sluggish in connecting to the patch server when checking the game version before launching the game.

What is the deal with the lag tonight(April 30)? It is totally ruining PvP. Worse, I a queued, participate, then dropped from the match, and gain no participation credit (either in EC or for the PVP missions) The last issue in particular needs to be addressed. I hate how I am dropped and get nothing for the time I invest in PvP matches.
Don't know if this is related, but the launcher seems to be a bit sluggish in connecting to the patch server when checking the game version before launching the game.
So what is going on down there? Takes me an eternity to just being able to press the Engage button on the launcher and ingame I can't even walk 10 feet without rubberbanding - not to speak of the Fleet /DoFF UI not showing or shuttering for minutes trying to get the data from the server....
Great, tried to play a round of STF and just had to quit because I couldn't move or rubberbanded like hell...

Brandon,
This cannot possibly be true. Reports in chat channels across the game have confirmed that lag is present in instances and in sector play. You have over 21000 people queued for NWO last I checked. How could it not be a network/server issue that is impacting STO? It happened with CO when STO launched remember?
Fine last night. Today lag in Crystal Entity, 2 Conduit Elites, and Big Dig. As other have stated super lag and CRAZY rubberbanding( some of the moves my ship made would be unbeatable starship patterns). Won'y bother with the scan, you know there is a problem on your end. Portland, Oregon getting lagged and rained on.
Last night's PVP matches were an absolute nightmare. I was rubber banding so hard, I thought I'd need sickbay for the whip lash. But even just flying through sector space or standing on NR and K7, I've being randomly disconnected. No reason at my end for it. Other games don't have a problem.

Getting worse. It is alson sabotaging Mine Trap STF. All of our Romulans arrived at the DZ, but failed to be counted. I can't even submit a ticket because the glibbyness is so bad.

Mate I done a big dig as I said earlier and it felt like a turned base game. I stopped walking for a couple of seconds so let go of W and next thing I know im dead with about 5 romulans laughing at me.
I am pretty sure before they killed they were saying where did he come from.
Since the beta of neverwinter came out sto has been having serious lag problems. we cant even get in a mission or a pvp match without getting disconnectedness or lagged to the point where the game is not playable. people are logging off and going to do other thing. this is redicuous!!!
Wondering where the lag was coming from actually. It would show up sporadically. Earlier today I sat in orbit around ESD for about 10 minutes while my ship sat their and twitched back and forth trying to Dock.

A (very) quick glance at the Champs forums implies they're not having any major issues today.
People in the NW forums seem to be having problems with the login queue, which doesn't really resemble what STO folks are experiencing.
I'm not saying that today's problems are unrelated to NW...I'm saying I don't see any evidence that there's a connection.
Had to wait a while for the launcher to let me start the game though (Engage button didn't appear).

Just thought I'd share. :P
And an fyi using a dos prompt and doing a traceroute it passes. Using my modems built in traceroute utility it fails every time.
hops 1-15 look fine, 16 and 17 as below
16 ***
17 *
traceroute failed and there was no 18th hop. Not sure if that means it failed at hop 17 or 18.
And odd now everything seems to be fine atm. Did someone feed the hamster?
Doh spoke to soon. Can't see my inventory and game just DCed. bah

We need tales of optimism, of heroes, of courage and goodness now as much as we’ve ever needed them."

Thanks for keeping us updated. I understand technical issues do occur and I have a lot more patience when I know the problem is being worked on.
Same thing is happening to me.
[/me too]

This is true, thought of that too.
