I've tried every last suggestion, and I can't get the launcher to update faster than a snail with a cold. Is there any cure at all for this or will the launcher remain this slow?

I think it is what it is for now guys unless they dedicate some bandwidth for sto. Hopefully it gets fixed or it speeds up. Guess we just have to be patient and wait it out lol

Yeah, I'm definitely missing Earth's atmosphere...as well as my Bridge Officer team on the character select which only appears when I press the select button and as I'm beaming out, they fill in. Very sad. I can't even tell that they went through sensitivity training.

And you want to talk about bad patching? My patching got jammed when I ran out of hard drive space. I cleared the drive started patching, got stuck, went proxy....the blasted patch downloaded on the holodeck side. And then I tried to patch the tribble side and it ended up duplicating. So I had to uninstall the game just to clear the excess download. I hate retweaking settings. I tried copying them out of the game folders...didn't work.

I find it quite amusing that people want to make the jem'hadar bug ship some uber I win ship. something that it never was in star trek, it was disruptor and phaser fodder.
The only advantage the bug ship ever had was overwhelming numbers. It was never supposed to be a capital ship.
Actually no. The Jem Hadar attack ship's original advantage was the Phased Polaron weaponry that initially allowed them to fire right through Starfleet shields like they weren't there. That's how they merced the Odyssey (took out the engine and then ramming it).

On the other hand Martok on the Rotarran regularly embarrassed the flesh eating scarab TRIBBLE, and the Defiant just hull tanked them for S#*ts and giggles.

It was a fast attack ship and that's it. Unfortunately fast attack ships seem to rule this game.

Keep in mind that in their first appearance our heroes were able to keep up with JH Attack ships in Danube class Runabouts.
If u ever fought KDF in pvp u would know that B'rel Torpedo ships is not that rare, but this my current set up is Borg Mk XII deflector (using for increase hull and 5 aux) 2x KHG peice shield and engines (25% bonus torp dmg and more aux increase set bonus), 2x Breen cluster torp[fore & aft], 3x adv fleet transpahsic torp [Fore] (due to higher spike dmg than rapid fire Mk XI versions), Rule 62 console (11% torp and mine dmg), Zero-point console (1.8 subsystems, 1.8 crit), assimilated console (0.92 crit, 9.2 crit sev, 5 aux) 3x Mk XII transphasic compressors (very rare 30%+ dmg each), tachyokinectic conveter (22.9% turn rate, .72 crit, 7.2 crit sev) 3x Mk XII neutorium console, technician doff with 25+ aux when cloak, 3x projectile weapons doff 20% chance reduce by 5 sec (very rare), Romulan Hyper plasma torp or Hargh'peng torp [aft], 2 tac rommie boff (2 superior Operative traits stacked) 1 sci rommie (subterfuge trait) and 1 human eng doff (leadership trait - marauding boff). normally my tactics is attacking cruisers from the rear mostly and attack escorts from above since the climb rate in this game is 2D for space combat so it will be harder to them to attack back. also an advantage in stealth torp boats is u don't have to put power into weapon or shield subsystems which u can max out ur speed and aux subsystem instead.

as for the T'Varo 2 extra tac consoles compare to the B'rel and 3 tac boff stations with rommie with operative traits i think it would be overpowered... 60%+ dmg from 2 consoles, 3 rommies with superior operative trait 2% crit, 5% crit sev and 15% recharge speed for cloak each. and that does not count the rommie player having a operative trait also if they choose it. and not to mention the ship have 33k hull compare to 24k hull to the fleet B'rel. i don't think there would be no draw back if the T'varo uses 4 tac console due to the fact the Enhanced Battle cloak alone could compensate for it. and if u ask me i think the extra console slot should go to the sci.

there is some players i seen b4 using Jem'hadar Dreadnoughts using Romulan hyper torps as their primary weapons, using 3x projectile weapons doff managing to clear out STF's in a very short time.

Let's see....I have been annihilated in PvP without seeing how. I guess that was you :P

Now let's start off, I touched the screen and burned my hand...your build is that hot. It seems....expensive though.

I currently use my Omega torp...maybe I should swap out for my Romulan torp.

PS: i'd recommend to place a few Ships out there... maybe add something that looks like hull of the own Ship / Station that we are supposed to be inside of...

-> then walked to the tailor... looked around tailor options (still no Romulan Head Tattoo in there -.- )... cancelled... 2 steps around and client crashed... hmmm yah...

reloading now to look around for new textures

    //edit:

actually scratch that... it's not the space box, it's the windows glass reflection that is making these odd shapes

i get even weirder *reflections* on the Captains Table:

Truthfully if you say "Flotilla" in a space game, you have to match the standard set by the Quarians as far as having ships outside the window.

Still I'm looking forward to seeing it.

    Patched and loaded.

Things that I kind of noticed directly was Earth's atmosphere completely gone. Somethings wrong there. Stars in SOL seem a bit exaggerated now as well.

For the new textures, its always good to have updated and more detailed textures (We're at 2013 so yeah, game should move forward to the future in terms of graphical enhancements).

But the way they look now is they are way too crispy/sharp that you would need at least 4x Supersampling Anti aliasing to compensate which is just rediculous.

it's a possibility, then again it could be Dank, Amari and many others that could have done it too

yea it is expensive in terms in both EC and Dilithium, i even have to divert resources from my 3 other chars to get things i need from time to time and i looks like i will do the same for putting resources to my new rommie toon as well. T'Varo nerf or not nerf... here i come!!! ^_^

the Omega torp is still a good weapon when used to support the rommie hyper torp while its between recharge time and as long it does not choke up everytime it hits 1.

Ditto that - I have been trying to get this thing to run the patch/update since 10:00 a.m. my time (it's now nearly 3:00 p.m.), and I am sitting at a whopping 5%...

Would LOVE to do some testing and actually see the improvements, but I might be 90 before that happens at this rate (and my comp is FAST...), so...;)

I've actually read every post on this thread while it's been patching, and mine's upto 14.3%.

PWE - I have a SERIOUS suggestion for you. When the closed beta came out, it was real slow to patch. This has been REALLY slow to patch. When LoR comes out its going to be even worse.

Your existing model won't handle it. I STRONGLY (and I do mean STRONGLY) suggest moving to a bittorrent model. Doesn't have to be perminant, or completely integrated into the launcher, but offering a standalone patcher that can be pulled via a bittorrent client. Take one of your patch servers, and use it to seed it. Should give you an alternative method (saves the patch via proxy) and one that better scales with increased load, with built-in error checking.

If you want help/support/advice feel free to get in touch (my day job is the lead researcher for Torrentfreak, plus I do customer support for bittorrent client makers on the side)

    Edited to add
In fact, I've decided that when it comes out, I'm actually going to completely uninstall STO, and then install again from scratch, because it's now getting close to 18Gb. The 4Gb initial download won't be much different from the patch, and I'll still have to patch-on-demand anyway. Plus I'll get disk space back. Win win.

    .

Quite true however this advantage was nullified as the war went on so over 30 since nemesis era which is after the dominion war, there's no real reason for these ships to be uber super escorts with tanking abilities that put most cruisers to shame, other then it must be a favorite ship of cryptic studios.

We know about the texture error. I'm investigating now, but will need to consult with our graphics guys. It does seem to be related to missing atmosphere textures. So far, the only one I know of is Earth.

Is anyone (not crashing) seeing missing atmospheres on other planets around the galaxy?

Where is the character that you're trying to load when it gives you that crash?

    Thanks

not seeing missing sky but i did see a glitching sky around Romulus (not New Romulus)

Just going to say the new textures are AWESOME!

plus the RCS changes are quite nice.

I ported my oddy over from holodeck and it went from 12.9 degrees a second to 17.3.

    • Plasma-Generating Science consoles from the Romulan Reputation system have been updated to increase all Plasma damage, as opposed to just Plasma damage from Directed Energy weapons.

I suppose this is a typo and it's referring to the consoles from the Romulan Embassy, right? Otherwise, I'll have to submit a ticket that some of my options on my Reputation aren't showing up ;)
Thanks for the expansion that had "as much content as the last"

So no fix for the closed beta romulan ship boff seating disappearing after every map transfer? kinda irritating to have to reseat them for every map :(

Noticed that female romulans wearing the "simple shirt" outfit is still clipping in the cleavage area and for some reason when trying to select the metal romulan republic gauntlets they won't match up color wise 1 to the other and if you have additional outfit unlocked (ex... Korath uniform I can only select to wear 1 of those gauntlets?)

But everything does look crisper texture wise :D

Yeah romulan green transporter FX is working so far, tnx

Love the look of the new bitty bops, guess I'm gonna have to add 2 new kdf ships to my collection when LOR goes live.

Any chance the c-store warbirds will be unlocked on tribble?

After patching holodeck (the entire thing, just reinstalled my OS) at over 1 MB/s tribble is going at 30KB/s, tried all patch proxies (currently disabled) didn't help, other things are downloading just fine (so its not my internet) (and currently nothing else is downloading just STO forums and google), this happened yesterday and then again today. Although I think I have had this problem before and it cleared up it does seem weird that others can download, maybe its because I am not Gold (was for a month though).

Edit: Oh and the new themes are very nice (had a look at them before this patch), although I think I may stick with the redalert Klingon version with my Klingon chars. Also I for some reason walked into the captains room on the Miranda Bridge and out of the window (to space) a walkway wall was present, that was in the last patch though not this one.

Anyone know why they removed the Radiant Plasma Torpedo?

That thing was pretty cool. I'm disappointed it's gone, even if it was just a green harpengh.

As far as i know...all they did was rename it to what it is on holodeck.

Speaking as someone from the low end of the video card spectrum...

A lot of new textures look wonderful, that's a plus

    On the flip side...

It is amazing that some things will never be fixed (Defera Systems 'blocky appearance' for example)
