So is the first picture with the Scorpion-tail some kind of advanced Mogai then?
I'm pretty sure that's the tier 2 Dhelan ship with another ship and engine trails above it.
And since there are no stats or any real info what will be at tier 5, I'll try and keep this to background and art stuff.
First, I know its the gimic for the race, but I wish you didn't have a singularity core in the tier 1 warbird. While its up for debate as to what power core was used in the first warbirds, it wasn't a singularity drive. I know you can say they were refitted, but one has to ask why drag a 100 year old wreck out to active service and then conduct a major refit to put in a modern power core. Eh, just my pet peeve.
Aside from that, the art looks nice, and the Ha?apax is interesting, though I'll wait to see an in-game model for final comments. I still hope I can have a D?deridex at end game though.
LOL at the reference to the D'Deredix having firepower equivalent to a Galaxy-class. That's not something to boast about in STO:P
The Science ship (an upscaled redress of the Shuttle) which appeared in the episode where Geordi/Ro got phase cloaked, would be a very good addition, maybe as a C-Store vessel for the Roms to give them a Science ship.
Given the more limited number of canon ships available for the Romulans, I'd like to see Cryptic innovate and see what their design team can come up with to pad out the roster a bit more.
Hello, Cryptic Studios? Can I speak with BranFlakes, please?
Yes, Brandon, I want to make a reservation for a Tier 5 D'Deridex warbird for May 21. :P And while you're at it, throw in that Tier 5 Valdore or whatever you're calling the ship that you posted a concept art of on the 'Legacy of Romulus' website so I don't have to call again!
And please equip both ships' crew quarters with TOS uniforms if they are availible. The payment will be in cold hard Zen.
perhaps the scimitar will be the odyssey/bort equivalent? but the ships are looking very good!!!

As Brandon already noted, we'll definitely have more ships than the ones that are listed in the blog right now. There will be free ships, Dilithium ships, and ZEN ships available.
Additionally, we'll have more dev blogs - including discussing more stats - as we get closer to launch.

So, the ships in the dev blog are only a sample of the ships that will be made available? or are those the "main" 5 ships that you can fly as you level your Romulan character?
Hmm, is that all there is for the free ships? Eh...I mean I can understand needing to drive sales in the C-Store (Cryptic being a business and all that), but I personally think there should be some more free ships available. Not a whole gang of them...just a bit more variety would be cool.

Oh you're too fast for me. Disregard what I wrote above. My bad.

Just to be clear...are the ships in this blog entry all the free ships or are there more free ships, the key word being free.
It's not like I won't spend money anyway, but having the same flavor of ship in each tier would be nice (cruisers from T1 to T5... etc.)

Cryptic it doesnt matter how much the public or the small player base that wants a simitar begs for one please dont do god ships. Dont even do a lockbox variant of one please.
I will only be impressed by this, "battle crusier" style of play they are promising if they actually grant them the same turn rates as real battle cruisers.
If they do to these ships what they did to the Bortasq with a turn rate 5 points lower then a battle cruiser, then they will be just as horrible to fly. (Which is the real reason that ship failed to sell well in the C-Store)
Without a base turnrate of at least 9 those ships will be worthless with cannons. They will only be able to effectively use beam and torp loadouts.
I was just thinking this, I remember reading that there were going to be other types of ships besides the warbird class. So the 5 shown in the blog are just warbirds, not necessarily all the free ships we can choose from.

Without a base turnrate of at least 9 those ships will be worthless with cannons. They will only be able to effectively use beam and torp loadouts.
At least that was my reason for not buying the Bortasq...
I wonder if something like the T'liss class if we will have the option of using the Enterprise version instead of the TOS version. If its C-Store only I probably won't care enough to buy it for the short time I'd be in it. I wonder if it will even be available as a T5 refit/retrofit, the Connie people might flip a lid if there are T5 TOS/Ent ships running around.
Considering I believe the Enterprise variant was used as the 25th century version of the T'liss class, I don't see what the problem would be. Hopefully we get that option at least for the T5 c-store version.
I'm actually stoked about the TOS ship. I just think it is one of the cooler looking things from that series. If there's a higher tier version of it in the C-Store... shoot, I just might bite on that.
Of course I'll have to buy the C-Store D'Deridex. No surprise that once again the cool ship people actually want is condemned to Tier IV hell, as that's been standard practice.
Nearly all the "Cool" ships have had tier 4, with tier 5 c-stores. Galaxy, Intrepid, and Defiant were all tier 4 free, with a c-store version at end game. I expected the same would be true of the the D'Deridex. Will have my zen ready for when my Romulan reaches max level.
The Ha?apax looks cool, though I guess the final version is still being finalized.
Odd how the current Bird-of-Prey model (the frigate) isn't on the list at all. Hopefully it'll be an alternate skin for the T'liss.
And a different playstyle for each tier is a bit limiting. I want to have escorts all the way up, not just in one tier.
Kind of commented on this above, but I too would hope for the 25th century version of the T'liss, in the Tier 5 c-store version at least. Never really been a fan of the TOS T'liss. Still it looks cool enough in the trailer that even if we don't get a 25th century version skin, I won't mind flying the ship for the 3 days I have it before I outrank it.
Overall, I like what I am seeing. The Scimitar omission is interesting, but I am guessing that it was left out because the sheer popularity of the model (in the running with the D'deridex as the most popular Rom ship) means it is most likely a C-store only ship.

The way its explained is that there is no tac/sci/eng so theres not going to be 3 choices one per type of toon you are and there will not be varients at least i doubt it. The way there doing it is that the free ships which have been in the blog are the only ones that will be free and brandon says each of them 5 ships that you see in the blog are their own type because of the lack of tac/sci/eng.. So escort players play the tier 2, raiders play tier 1 etc. These ships either have to be amazing stat wise from when you can claim them for free otherwise there will be just the one or 2 ships at end game you can play with that are free and that are romulan and not fed or kdf or lockbox ships or cstore ones. If i can play a romulan tos bop at endgame elitestfs with 4 fore and 3 rear at least with 9/10 consoles then thats fair enough i wouldnt mind that but if i have to choose to fly the cap ships which i dont really want to play then well theres not much choice for me i have to play a lockbox, fed or kdf or cstore ship.
tier1-tos bop
tier2-the modern looking ent bop
tier3-Dhelan
tier4-Mogai

and the Ha?apax a c store ship?
and turn rates, slower then a galaxy? firepower comparable to a galaxy? those are horrible benchmarks in this game, considering the current galaxy class we have available are the least damaging, slowest turning, worst station setup haveing, all around WORST ship in the entire game. the tin can Aquarius is a better escort then the galaxy R is a cruiser.
the d'deridex needs to move like a negvar, and the mogai like a breen ship.
crappy fed style cruisers are worthless at being anything but heal boats with all the defensive power creep out healing even the strongest pressure damage. make these war birds more like the negvar, vorcha, and kamarang, then they can at least be multi role, and flown defensibly or offensively.
Comments
I will be optimistic though, this could lead to just as many ships but across all the styles of STO classes.
The concept art for the tier 5 class is absolutely amazing, just as the concept for the new Mogai was.
The tier 2 ship is absolutely terrible, same with the other new warbird that wasn't detailed in the post.
Will the Romulan ships have tier wide customization like the feds and klinks?

Please enable us to buy a token with Zen to faction change a 25th Century FED to a TOS FED.
Yes, I want these too!

I'm wondering if we'll be getting any Reman starships as well? Maybe the Ha'apax is the proper Romulan counterpart to the Scimitar?
Oh & what happened to the awesome concept from the teaser site? Is that an alternate skin for a Mogai?
VERY EXCITED!
This is how video game design has worked for more or less 30 years. Why wouldn't they?

We are planning to have Romulan Fleet ships. Details TBA.
I'm anxious to see if the C-Store offerings are a little more inspiring.
