a Veteran Scimitar is a terrible idea. Remember that by making it a veteran ship you are effectively locking out people who aren't subscribers.

Yes, you want to have an incentive to get people to subscribe, but getting a ship as popular as the Scimitar as it, might not be the way to go.

as for the re-race/species. I think people are forgetting a simple point. No respec has ever been cross-faction at this point. So wanting to re-race an alien into a Romulan without rerolling is highly unlikely, if not down right impossible.

I'd go with the IRW Valdore from Nemesis the one in game is different from it.

Not to mention, these semi cross-faction ships are generally identical save for small features; any Romulan vet ship would logically be a copy/paste of the Klingon vet ship with a plasma lotus or something, rather than a Scimmy anyway. I'd be kinda surprised to even see that playable.

To those asking for Kzinti for Rom faction?

    Not happening.

Larry Nivens denied the rights, so they settled on making Ferasans.

The Kzint btw HAVE been in the live films. The female cat dancer in Trek 5 was stated as a "Kzin female" for production purposes.

Just to toss this disclaimer in, production notes DO count, it isn't "assumed" she was a Caitian just because they didn't verbally say she was Kzin on screen, just as Lucas had Palpatine as the Emporer's name way back in the first Star wars novel in 77, it wasn't said on screen until Phantom menace in 99, but it counted as canon.

Moot point anyways TAS IS canon, whether someone disagrees is moot you cannot choose what is canon, the IP holders do, it isn't subject to an opinion, it is fact.

One can always RP or imagine they are a Kzinti offshoot race. The more that space empires go around conquering other worlds, the gene pools diverge out there a lot.

Remember that Cryptic was making Kzinti and had the go ahead but then at the last minute CBS got worried about the licensing and told Cryptic to change the name. So yeah Ferasans are Kzinti just like SFB renamed Kzinti as Mirak.

As for Caitians, they're almost non-canon.
And no, the cartoon series does not count, since I've never seen anything citing it as canon.

    according to CBS it is

and the reason why we got the ferasons is bcuz of the Kzinti was not able to be licensed by cryptic bcuz that creator wanted to much money.

...and people say that Cryptic/PWE are money hungry
Also, I have concerns about adding another cloak based faction into the game.
On any ship I have that uses a Cloak power, I absolutely refuse to activate it!

This is because any UI interaction disables the Cloak.
The major one is when the BOFF comment screen goes up, the Cloak goes down.

in most situations you wait for the BOff popup to go by then cloak ... yes this doesn't always apply but it does work

I wonder... will Romulans have access to Fed and KDF home sectors? They're on friendly terms with the two factions after all.

Yes, as much as I've been up in arms lately over this nerf and that bug, I must say this "expansion" is looking really good and is bringing some changes that many of my friends have wanted for a long time. Bravo! Even more important to me, this bodes well for the future of the game--my primary hobby currently--and that is excellent. Keep the content coming and you'll keep getting C-store purchases from me.

P.S. -- A lot of folks, myself included, figured that the dev team's promise to round out the KDF before bringing the Romulans was going to fall flat. Instead I see that characters can start from level 1 in any faction, which is looking like the dev team is going to make good on that promise after all. That'll earn some kudos in my book.

just dont count ur chickens before they are hatched everyone
    remember anniversary week?
the game was unplayable for a few days and had what 4 or 5 emergency maintenance shutdowns?

they should have taken care of the klingons a long time ago and brought them to the lvl the fed is at before making a new faction
yea they are making klingons 1-50 now, but that doesnt mean anything
adding content for 1-20 isnt much given the low xp amount needed compared to the higher lvls

i just find it interesting that ppl are calling the devs gods when a few weeks ago they had the pitch forks out over the andorian ships, or the foundry nerf.... etc
hopefully they will allow extenstive tested before holodeck release

am i looking forward to the romulans? yes
will it be cool? i hope so
but im keeping my expectations in check
we just dont know how extensive the new content will be, for either the klingons or the romulans
a certain amount of realism needs to be mixed in with the excitement

I it going to be free to play, but I am puzzled.

    1) Is this going to be worked in as a patch?
-no/ Is this a separate program?
--no/ Will it change my existing characters?
---yes/ Do I have to restart my characters?
--yes/ Will it be compatible with the current STO?
---no/ So we have to start all the way over?
---yes/ So its an expansion that works with the existing base?
-yes/ Can I expect major changes in the operation of the game?
--yes/ What kind of changes are we looking at here?

If someone could answer this string I will be very happy!

It's impossible to control the Cloak to avoid BOFF deactivation.

Say you're playing a mission for the first time, you're not going to know what event triggers a BOFF comment screen and force decloaks you.

And when/if you repeat missions, it would be unlikely that you memorize all the event triggers and decloak in advance of the trigger activating.

This is why I don't cloak, it's easier to avoid the problem then it is dealing with the force decloak.

Which is what hurts the gameplay, why have a mechanism you don't dare use?

And it's also why I would prefer to use Hirogen vessels, they don't come with cloaks, so they wouldn't be affected by this gameplay anomaly.

As regarding Caitian or Kzinti canon, I'm not interested in this statement or that statement declaring they are canon.

Gene Roddenberry says the TAS is not canon, when he dies, CBS says it is.
I'm more inclined to follow Gene's line then CBS, since his is the last word on the matter.

What matters to me is time onscreen (not counting TAS).
And time in the tv show is rated more highly then the movies.

For me to count a species as a minor species, they must have at least one episode about/featuring them in a speaking role or significant appearance.
To be counted as a full canon species, they must have several episodes, preferably a story arc.

Caitians and Kzinti have never had either of these.

Bees like honey, they don't like vinegar.

I played all week and had no problems except one instance of a que line thats it other than that it was fine ... yes I read all the problems people had and so I expect it to happens tens times as worse in May but that always happens when you get any new content
I it going to be free to play, but I am puzzled.

Yes it is Free to play

it will be a BIG patch

    no its not separate

no it will not change your existing characters

no you will not have to restart your characters but you will have to sart a new Romulan character if you so choose

yes it is compatible with STO

no you don't have to start over but if you start a new character on the KDF, or Romulan you can start at level 1

yes its an expansion that works with the existing base

the game should play the same as usual but the UI (character creator user Interface) will have a new look

that last one should answer your last two question

keep an eye out for more details to come in the coming weeks leading up to launch there will be lots of dev blogs explaining what is coming
Gene Roddenberry says the TAS is not canon, when he dies, CBS says it is.
I'm more inclined to follow Gene's line then CBS, since his is the last word on the matter.

can you show me where and when he has said this not saying he didn't but gene has been gone for years now and CBS has the right to say what goes and what doesn't that's part of the business IMHO the hirogen don't belong to the RSE they were contracted by sela and given rights to hunt in there space that don't make them apart of the faction.

No the game is F2P :)

I wouldn't be too sure about that, I think its more a "wait-and-see" kinda scenario. Other F2P games have expansions you have to pay for, but like I say, we'll have to see what happens. Either way its mine and no one will take it away from me :D

I've been grinning from ear to ear like a mad man since this was announced yesterday. Great work Cryptic, I don't even know the extent of the story content but I'm hugely impressed. The rest of the UFP player base is hugely excited about this release, I know I can't wait to get in that TOS Warbird and get a D'Deredix! I just hope you get rid of those hugely oversized escape pods under the D'Deredix's belly... looks awful!

Also, people not know how to read or something? The amount of people saying that it's a paid expansion when it's not, just read the text guys!

Lastly, can people give Cryptic a break and stop crying DOOOOOOOM before we even know the finer details of the release? It's evident that Cryptic's been working on this for quite some time, give them some credit... we said they woudln't be able to put together a faction in such short time when they have and possibly brought the KDF up to par too! Let's just leave the pitch forks and torches in the shed until they are really needed yes?

I honestly do not care about what canon and what is not.

However I do care about what is fun and what is not.

And this seems like a fun upgrade.

I also got a terrible idea.

All these people whining about the KDF not getting enough...
Do they not realise that all this whining does is discourage players from starting to play KDF and that takes more development efforts off it? Or are they just trolling for "da lulz" ?

Because the more money a faction sells, the more is spent on it. Which makes total sense.

So you want more KDF content?

Buy more KDF stuff, yell on the forums how awesome your Vor'cha is so that other people want one too and buy zen and new character slots for Klingons.

Mind, I'll lend any financial support I got for the Romulans because I like them more, but that's me and I don't have a job yet so my finances are limited.
