I posted a message in the forums in regards to the servers being full, and the gross incompetance of Cryptic/PWE not forseeing the disasters that came with this particular expansion, Legacy of Romulus. Apparently, even though it was nerdrage, a scumbag decided to state that I was acting like a fool, and that I was acting entitled. That person couldn't be anymore wrong about complaining about my post. To further my point, I shall tweek and peak, as we say in the Navy, an editorial made by a brilliant man by the name of Jim Sterling. The point of this is to say that idiots like the person who ranted against me, is incorrect, and here is why.
Much like like Diablo III, Star Trek Online's Legacy of Romulus launched yesterday and a bunch of people were unable to play it. They had the game on their hard drives, they bought memberships, be it lifetime, gold, or silver memberships. Some people might have bought a slew of Perfectworld Entertainment cards in preparation for this event. An event that they waited months for once word got out. People might have actually taken a day off of work and cleared their schedule to play a game that many trekkies shelled out money for more than 100 bucks for in memberships or card purchases--upwards!
But, sadly, people couldn't play because Perfectworld's servers couldn't handle the amount of people logging on to play. And weirdly, "duh....that puts a strain on the servers. Ahyuck!"
Incidentally, there were many people who were telling all of you, much like the one person who told me, to stop complaining, to stop whining, and to stop "feeling entitled." But here's the kicker. You absolutely SHOULD complain, and you absolutely SHOULD whine, because while gamers can throw tantrums over the stupidest things, in this case, we are morally, absolutely, and intellectually justified. Because if you're paying upwards of 100 bucks in card purchases, and memberships for a game you cannot play, and you ARE NOT complaining, THERE IS SOMETHING WRONG WITH YOU. And you, my friend, are being an accessory to the biggest problem that this godforsaken industry has. Publishers and developers like Branflakes and Cryptic, and PWE (or any other publisher and developer for that matter) who feel that they can do whatever they like to the consumer, and that the consumer can eat up that TRIBBLE with a big spoon, and fans of the game will attack people who are fed up with eating TRIBBLE and tell them to stop whining and complaining about eating TRIBBLE because the TRIBBLE tastes great, and eating TRIBBLE is certainly better than not eating at all. They don't care that they're eating TRIBBLE and that we should be grateful to the bountiful **** dribbling in our mouths and faces in so much TRIBBLE.
Star Trek Online's Legacy of Romulus debut has been freaking embarrassing. Even now, and and a month and a half prior to LoR's launch I was getting extremely bad lag engaging in missions such as Explore Strange New Worlds, and various Borg and Romulan STFs, and it tends to render the game unplayable. I'm trying to fight off Borg and Jem'Hadar, whichever the case may be, and I find out, after about nearly 30 seconds of lag, I find out that I've gotten blown up, or my entire away team has been killed; It's absolutely disgraceful! And even have moments where Cryptic fails to notify players in-game, pulling a Blizzard, and kicking people out of the servers for maintenance, is inexcusable! You have every right to be upset about this nonsense!
People will try to justify the actions of angry gamers like myself by trying to tell us to be patient(granted, the market should be patient). Others are trying to discredit angry gamers by saying asinine things like, "you don't know how hard it is to maintain a company like this," "you don't have experience in running servers so you can't comment." Roger that. My counters to that claim are this: 1. I've never been to Africa, but I know what an elephant looks like. 2. Roger that. Fine. If you're gonna go by that imbecillic logic, then you HAVE to apply that reasoning to EVERY SINGLE ASPECT OF LIFE. For example, if you don't have a barking dog, then you can't complain to your neighbor about his dog barking at odd hours of the night, you can't complain to a store manager about a product being out of stock unless you are a store manager. My main point about the company's woes is this: That's Cryptic/PWE's problem, and their problem EXCLUSIVELY. Granted, they were giving more money, time and energy into games like Neverwinter, which is the most popular game, with STO coming in second, but again, that's Cryptic and PWE's problem. Cryptic/PWE decided to take it's problems with their servers, and make it EVERYBODY'S problem; from card purchasers to membership holders. Which is indicative of the state of the video game industry right now. This idea that if a corporation has a huge problem, people like Branflakes, Cryptic/PWE feels they can happily spread their problems onto their paying consumers like a freaking infection. WE have to jump through new hoops and tackle new challenges in place of the people with the actual hoops and challenges.
Look, I don't care, ok? You can justify the lag and server problems any which way you like, but I don't give chimpanzee's vaginal cyst about any of that. Because there is NO EXCUSE for you Branflakes, and the people of Cryptic and PWE, being unable to provide the services you've taken a significant amount of our money for. There's simply NO EXCUSE. And it's very very sad to see gamers defending this, and telling others to stop being upset. I was talking to one of my STO fleet buddies in Guardians of Equestria that he initially wanted to complain about STO's lag and login problems, and login queue, but felt that he would feel spoiled and entitled. NEGATIVE, SHIPMATE! It is NOT SPOILED to complain about this. The issue of "gamer entitlement" can be debated in certain issues of taste and preference. But in this case, ABSOLUTELY NOT! Gamers can act entitled here, BECAUSE WE ARE ENTITLED; we're entitled to a good service and to play a game we paid/paying good freaking money for, WE ARE ENTITLED to a smooth running service.
On a side note, I suppose I should be grateful that Cryptic and PWE didn't throw in any kind of DRM. And if they do, they WILL kiss my money goodbye.
I can understand why people don't want to complain about the problems of STO's Legacy of Romulus launch ordeal. The gamer community as a whole has a hard time understanding that YOU CAN complain about the things you love at times. And I think people want to defend the server problems, lag, and login queues, because they think that to attack them would be to attack Star Trek Online as a piece of entertainment. But no, if you love Star Trek Online then that's all the more reason to attack it even harder. Because when we love something, criticizing that which holds it back, truly is, the best thing we can do. I love Star Trek Online, personally. And I prefer it over Blacklight: Retribution, and even Digimon Masters Online; the former I uninstalled from my hard drive, and I've been having a wonderful and outstanding time grinding for dilithium, collecting gear, and blowing up Cardassians when there was no lag or extreme server troubles, but that's all the more reason to be angry. Because we have an industry where great games, remarkable and wonderful games, are being chained to utterly awful business practices that directly damage them and harm an otherwise beautiful experience. And to just sit back and let that happen only makes you a willing accomplice in doing that harm. In the case of Star Trek Online, Diablo III, and many games before IT, you should definately throw your hissy fits, and you definately should wine, especially if you love it. The entitlement debate has NO PLACE here. There is NO discussion to be had. You paid for your cards and memberships, Branflakes, Cryptic and PWE failed you by making their problems your problem, and you are 100% entitled to be damned unhappy about that.
After all that, I hope I don't get any hell from any of this boards moderators, or developers, or even Branflakes himself. Because then that would prove that through all those smiles they gave their consumers, they're acting arbitrary and petty.
Rule of Acquisition #48: The bigger the smile, the sharper the knife.
i'm giving up for tonight ((not forever like some over - dramatic people))
it's 11pm at night here so i gonna go bed and cuddle up to the missus.
i hope those of you who are still waiting here with a resolve like a drunk vulcan .. get in .. and when you do get in i hope bloody well have fun .. ! ..for me please hehe
not like i'm gonna loose sleep about this queuing problem this as i am going to bed lol
I am in. Will possibly not play for a while if queue is long and join the real world. Laters
Cry, cry some more people, look I'll even pull out my tiny , very extremely tiny violin that I can fit between my fingers and play you that dismally pathetic song that you can all sing to
If you've never been in a queue or an MMO then one of two things has happened.
1. You were playing a game that had set "world" servers to which your account was married and therefore instantly allowed access as it was a resident of that server.
or
2. You're lying.
And what you're suggesting is:
1. Every single instance in the server is full
or
2. The game ****ed up somewhere and is queuing people for a server that's nowhere near full.
Got finally first from a 23k+ queue after 2hrs+ wait...and now guess what: Got disconnected just after hitting the 'play' button...back to square one - at the end of a 21k+ queue
The coincidence with the lifetime sale coming together with the sudden apearence of the login queue raises the suspicion of a salestrategy.
If so, it's a rather terrible sales strategy. STO cannot stay afloat on subscriptions, that's why it went F2P, and I can't imagine they're making more money from people putting out the money for a gold membership just to get into the game than they're losing from the (judging by the queues) tens of thousands of people who aren't likely to be buying Zen when they can't even reliably get into the game, and no timeline on when stability might be restored.
You need to set yourself new goals all. I made it today from 25867 to 6677 in less than 3 hours. Thats a great success. I am all satisfied now and can go to sleep as it is midnight here.. already looking forward to tomorrow.. maybe i'll even make it to 1000 one day. Great game, really. Makes me want to pay a lot of money.
We should make our own hiscore-table for best queue results.
well here we go again folks.let the queueing begin!! instead of being 10268 out of 12540 yesterday im now at 20307 out of 21134.and it keeps changing.thank god for pharmaceuticals.at least I can drug myself into a stupor while waiting to get into this friggin game again.at least I got in this morning without one.SHEISSEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:mad:
All the queue means, to me, is that alot of us are returning to check out the new product - something I've done every major release since the beginning. Most likely, I'll decide that the "new" product is overall no better than the old one, stop playing after a month, and leave again.
I always check back to see what's been going on, but I have no regrets about cancelling my sub, those couple years back.
I haven't seen a queue ever till this point, and at least not at the length of time like the ones I'm getting today.
Not to mention when I DID get in, I haven't seen the game any more populated than usual or any symptom of the server reaching it's limit (i.e: lag).
Star Trek Online 3 year anniversary had login queue and that is from earlier this year. The game took less time to get into then but once in the game had some pretty bad lagging problems. Now it just has taken longer to get in but once in I did not have a lot of lagging problems only some minor ones.
Dear PWE!
All good, all fine with the Romulan Patch, it looks nice and you bring us new Powers, New Traits, more work and many more BUGS!
It can be possible, if more then 20 THOUSAND People waiting in a Queue to play this Game!
You will do good to invest some of our Money in better Performance?
We waiting the Patch is done and now we cant play and why please?

you know what ever guys i was trying to help everyone out not just me so call me a crying all you want but with attidues like yours game will never be fixed and they will continue to say TRIBBLE you so expect to be ****ed over i dont care anymore. i was triing to help and ur doing nothing but insulting me so **** all of you.
I know the feeling. I bought this game before it was f2p, spent hundreds of dollars on ships, zen, and upgrades. Now I feel betrayed, bamboozled, and ripped off. I was 142 out of 23,849. Really, and you say gold, and silver members have priority. I don't think so. You guys have become to greedy in your quest for the GREEDERS ultimate frontier....MONEY. I love Star Trek with all my heart but I feel that you have disgraced this game, and the long time players. There was never a que before so why start now, oh, to sucker people into buying your gold, and silver membership. The way it's going now even they have to wait. Guess I'll go back to playing Star Trek Legacy on my XBOX 360. Fix this problem before you really loose your faithful players new, and old. I have patience, but after 2 hours and still not able to play.....well you figure it out.
I strongly agree. i may not be gold but i have spend hundreds on this game and the legacy pack and now all the people that dropped out of the game and dont pay for anything are back and taking up all the game slots while the rest of us are watching numbers. legacy opened on my birthday. i sat around all day waiting for the servers to open only to have them not work worth a damn. then i finally get the game working as im taking off to get hammered. ti come back to this both last night and today. get ur &%#$ together isnt there supposed to be testing to avoid alot of the TRIBBLE thats going on?
grammer TRIBBLE enjoy tearing this apart some one needs to have fun.
(i know i could go play real life. the graphics are amazing but the story line sucks)
i don't understand what happens here...
i've been playing like a month and yesterday is the first time i see this queue thing.
Is the capacity lower due to the expansion or more people want to play (can understand with the arrival of the new film)??

LMAO Epic!
Or 20k people are trying to connect to the Shard and the "in road" can't take the traffic so it slots them into a Queue.
But the login queue is sto specific so what we're seeing is all sto, not sto/nw/champ.
