Pretty much this. It is too late to jump off the train now......
normaly I'd agree with you, and on the fact of it beinbg a $ issue, however it is an illogical buisness strategy and a very faulty one at best, in the very least it boosts sales for the jem hadar attack ship should it be presented soon again by a very very small margin. as the fact the JHDC is in the hands of well under 10% of the playerbase, this would only see a likely increase in sales of maybe 5.8%. so targeting the dreadnought owners is not even a good strategy for this.
at the best, they are testing the waters for future setups like the one we have now, which I can only think of being ok with if it only attributed to the C-Store ships. even then its not the best setup.
I'm still sticking with the "oh we don't have anymore time and the deadline is tomorrow, hmmm.....oh I got it, make it exlusive to only those who have one of the rarest and most expensive ships in game, and need to have the dreadnought to function, that way there would be less bug reports about it, not to mention its rarity can keep it in check," thought pattern
This is all kinds of extortion and like mostly everyone who has posted in this thread i'am not happy. You cannot go around restricting hanger items like this, first of all its bad enough its limited to a specific ship but to require dread owners to first own the attack ship in order to get the full use of the dread... you crossed a line.

Pretty much sums up my feelings on the issue.
It's just bad form on Cryptics part with this whole thing.
It makes no sense at all from the perspective of players that only own the Dreadnought Carrier and it trys to convince Bug owners that somehow having to buy and fly a completely different ship just to use Hanger options that they must also pay extra for is a nice thank you from Cryptic to them for owning the Bug ship
If this is a perk we must all be on Bizzaro world
I found something disturbing with the jemmy bug hangar pets from a friend who fought me in tribble. they are again almost frakking useless, I mean even now in game, watched a Jemmy bug with me in azure nebula struggle to take on a recluse, where me in my fleet defiant not only took out the recluse that killed him, but took out its sister recluse and mesh/orb weavers, this was against a Ddex, and he has elite fleet weapons with elite fleet equipment and the boosters for it I only have advanced, with the borg MkXI set.....wow that was fraking bad man, when did they nerf the hell out of those ships?

That Azure nebula rescue mission screws with all carrier pet ai, not just the bugs.
I'am simply stunned that not one single person at Crytpic could take a moment out of the day to respond to a 22 page thread on a pressing and current issue.
Dont tell me its because they are 'busy' have you seen the rubish some of the dev's regularly responds too? One line topics left right and center, but as soon as something comes up that people are not happy about... its like hidden dev crouching ninja.

Will it make you happy if they just told you no they are not going to change it, rather than stay quiet and say no with silence.
When they are quiet on a subject on the forums that's usually your answer.

Thats because Cryptic have always been a pack of sleezy cowards. They have done this repeatedly over the course of 3 years by happily ignoring their customers when it is financially convienient.
Will it make you happy if they just told you no they are not going to change it, rather than stay quiet and say no with silence.

I would prefair some upfront honesty, so yes it would make me happy if they simply came on here and said "We like it this way, we are not going to change it" if that's how they actually feel about it.
I obviously feel like this needs to be looked into and changed to be less restrictive, but on a scale of things that annoy me... this is a minor issue compared to the complete lack of communication when one-liner comedy threads are getting dev responses directly above this thread.
I know it will most likely never happen but I'd be greatly appreciative if someone in the know at Cryptic would share the thought process that went into the decision to tether the Jem'Hadar Dreadnought Carrier and its Hanger options to the rarest of the rare Jem'Hadar Attack Bug.
It might not have been Cryptics intention but this move just comes off has a cash grab and feels like a reverse gift with purchase for players that pick up the Jem'Hadar Dreadnought Carrier and would like access to all its Hanger options.
If I had any say at all in what Cryptic would have done if they really wanted to tack on some kind of perk to the Bug Ship owners in the way of a Hanger Variant of their ship it would go something like this:
I'd make a Rare Quality version of the Hanger Attack Ship to be sold to all that own the Dreadnought Carrier available for EC at the Shipyard vendor.
2nd I'd offer a Very Rare version of the Hanger Attack Ship that would be available to all that own the Dreadnought Carrier via the Dilithium Store.
3rd For owners of the Jem'Hadar Attack Ship and Dreadnought Carrier I would create a special Ultra Rare version of the Hanger Attack Ship that would be available to them via crafting option or the Dilithium Store that would only be available to them to buy or create but be fully tradable so that these players can make a profit in being able to sell Ultra Rare items that only they can get to the masses and pretty much name their price.
The above screams huge perk to me for Bug Ship + Dreadnought Carrier owners but that?s just me.

The reason Cryptic wont respond is because if they say they are NOT going to change it then they are bound by that choice. If at some later point they smell a buck and change that position people will rightly be really ticked off at being lied to.
This has happened before with Cryptic making suggestions of exclusivity only to turn around and over the same thing later down the road. This is exactly what they pulled with the Galaxy-X referral system.
People asked for the Galaxy-X to be included in game - Cryptic made it a Referral reward which could only be gotten through selling the game to your friends like mad. Cryptic waited a month of two as these people went nuts buying multiple copies of the game and subscriptions. I knew one guy that literally bought 5 copies of the game and a month subscription for them to get the Galaxy-X.
The sum total was something like $200 - $300
THEN Cryptic offered the Galaxy-X on the C-Store for $20
THAT is how disgustingly cheap Cryptic is.
Personnally, I can just see Cryptic waiting to release another lockbox which contains a chance at the Jem Hadar Attack Ship. Folks will snap that up like crazy and now they have further increased desire with the Dreadnaught.
THEN... afterwards they will offer the Jem Hadar Attack Ship pets without restrictions but naturally they will nerf it into the ground.
THEN... the May update will arrive which introduces a bunch of new super-pets that are better.
THEN... Cryptic will just rinse and repeat the process with a new gimick.
funny thing is, before this, i was actually considering buying a lifetime sub. now im really doubting. next time i get a ship, do i need to complete an in-game stamp collection to actually be able to use propulsion or weapons?? do i need to win 6.000.000.000 rounds of dabo to unlock the shields??? WTF MAN!!!
....
well here is something about the cryptic trackrecord when it comes to 'service'/keeping promises'/'meeting deadlines'/etc.
 "ANYTHING CRYPTIC SAYS IS A LIIIIIIEEE AND I HATE EVERYTHING THEY SAY!"
"But, why haven't you said anything, Cryptic?"
This is a good way to get the thread locked and the issue ignored. Try to keep it professional.
Here's a thought: people should start trying to figure out when the next Ask Cryptic is going to be, so everyone can get together and we can all ask about this legitimate problem. Even if it didn't get a direct answer, at least it would be certain to bring it to their attention.
Ok, I know that most of us are very angry at Cryptics decision to make the attack ships hanger pet available only to those who have an attack ship. But, This name calling, threat-making, saber rattling really isn't the best way to go about this. At best you're going to get this thread locked and nothing will get accomplished. Worst, you're going to get forum banned.
I've been playing MMOs for the last 25 years now, and I've seen my fair share of unpopular decisions by the devs in my time. Experience has taught me that once something goes on the live server the odds of the devs reversing themselves is extremely low. Once in blue moon I've seen well written and thoughtful arguments by the community turn dev decisions around. Never once have I seen threats and insults against devs or the company do any good.
p.s.
I know that acting belligerently will bring you attention, it's just not going to be the attention you want.
Keep in mind that even if they say something in an ask cryptic it doesnt mean anything. Nothing said or promised means anything till something is actually done and in the game. After all, the ambassador and andorian ships were coming soon! for 3 years. Till i actually picked up my quest reward and loaded my ambassador i still 1/2 assumed it was a joke.
So till they actually change this to be fair to all the Dreadnought owners, dont take what is "said" as any kind of hard evidance anything will change.
Its the sad reality with this and many other game companies.

true but there is a sliver of hope, that one dev may pass by and become the seed of a conversation to fix this, and repair the fighters as well.
Hi guys, I have one character that I created to specifically command the BUG, this was done at the end of the winter event that involved those infamous Red Boxes from hell.
Here we are now 2013 with the new Dominion drop boxes literally dropping like flies. After many moons and hard labor, I managed to gain enough funds to purchase the Jem'Hadar Heavy Escort. Though I have yet to officially purchase it, I am still debating.
Is the J.H.E. worth it? Especially now in the light of that owning all three vessels on one toon will open up abilities.
I have not purchased it yet, and I am contemplating just spending the funds on keys for other items that I desire from the lock boxes, which includes Lobi accumilations.
Hearing the whole Dreadnought issue does not help either - as I would like to use the Heavy Escort (If I get it) and the Dreadnought (which I'll eventually obtain) on seperate toons.
It is sad that one is forced to use all three vessels on one toon to reap the most from them, which according to this thread, doesn't seem like much.

Now it is my understanding from the release notes that only the Dreadnought can use the Jem'hadar attack ship. Meaning you wouldn't be able to use the attack ship hanger pet on the Heavy escort. Several of my fleet mates have all three Jem'hadar ships and there is a few advantages in owning all three. The consoles are usable interchangeably on the ships. The heavy escort and the dreadnought consoles also give a slight set bonus when used together.
So really the advantage of owning the the escort is that you get the extra console which is really quite good. Unfortunatly the Jem'hadar fighter is borderline zero dps so you'll want to use another hanger pet if you fly the escort. So if you use the heavy escort you won't be able to keep the Jem'hadar theme going if you want fighters that do meaningful DPS lol.
My fleet mates tell me that the Jem'hadar attack ship is quite nice (especially when it suicides lol) but isn't super high dps. However, recent test server notes signify that the AI should be improved relatively soon.
In many ways I feel that the console is quite possibly worth it alone (combined with the dreadnought console). The HEC is something like a group wide attack pattern omega, We have several people in my fleet with both and we all time the two consoles to be used at once. When we coordinate our buffs and debuffs together *stuff* dies fast. Sometimes I think they are too good and that I have nightmares that they'll be nerfed  let's hope not .

Meanwhile I only own the dread carrier, and find its console to be useless. Minute and a half cooldown to slightly debuff the target's damage resistance and to knock a random subsystem offline for 4 seconds. Except I'm using disruptors so the target's damage resistance is already debuffed and the ship comes with built-in subtargeting that can heavily handicap a system of your choosing for 15 seconds..

Last year there was a major issue that cropped up which exploded past 100 pages before a Community Manager (not a dev) even commented that it was on their list of feedback. The major issues almost always tend to get the silent treatment around here.

I have put this up there time and time again, the Jem'Hadar Dreadnought Carrier is alone a beast of destruction, good tac arangements for boffs, consoles have 4 tac, 4 fore weapons 3 aft. you arm it up with all dominion beam arrays from boldly they rode and you got a ship that can have a polaron and tetryon proc.
this dominion beam thing works great on all jem'hadar ships.
Meanwhile I only own the dread carrier, and find its console to be useless. Minute and a half cooldown to slightly debuff the target's damage resistance and to knock a random subsystem offline for 4 seconds. I would not call the Dreadnoughts Console useless; it can be downright vicious when combined with Attack Pattern Beta, Sensor Scan, Sensor Analysts and Disruptors.
I'm not sure if the Dread has Sensor Analysts, I've not been paying attention to it.
The above mentioned abilities really soften up a Target and that works quite nicely for your team mates and your hanger support.
It's a damn shame that the Jem Fighters are complete junk and the Hanger Attack Ships are locked away from 95% of the players that own the Dreadnought Carrier.
The Ultra Rare Scorpion Fighters are pretty much the best thing that you have for the Dreadnought Carrier ATM; unless of course you own the Bug ship has well.
There really needs to be some kind of Generic midsized Hanger Attack Support Vessel for both factions that could be used with all full Carriers.
Feds = Non Cloaking Defiant class
KDF = A Non Cloaking Midsized Raider of a non-Klingon design, perhaps a Kitty Cat inspired vessel
I've yet to open my Dread on Holodeck but I've been testing it on Tribble and IMO if it had come with a Universal Lt. Commander slot and a Lt. Engineering slot it would have been hands down the best of all Carriers.
Call me closed minded but IMO every full Carrier should be able to slot at least Lt. Commander Science Skills.
I'm still waiting to find out who's brain child it was to gate off the Hanger Bugs from the majority of the Dreadnought Carrier owners without at least making sure that the Advanced Version of it fighters could do more than just shoot spitballs at targets.
Meanwhile I only own the dread carrier, and find its console to be useless. It's funny to hear you say that. The Dreadnought console is my favorite console . It really is weird to hear people disparage the dreadnought. The ship has become my new favorite. It isn't nearly as tanky as the recluse, but it packs a punch while still being able to take a hit.
Honestly I think the biggest reason why so many people are upset with the attack ship requirement is due to the fact that the attack ship hanger was going to be the only federation available frigate level hanger pet. I think the lack of equivalent B'rotlh and Fer'Jai is making us fed carrier captains crazy jelly.:P

I'll admit a little bit to that, but its also the fact it sets a dangerous precidence, how long until other fetures are locked away until you obtain a specific lockbox ship?

Hey now, hold up there. I disparaged the console for the sensible reasons provided. The ship itself is 110% awesome. It's a little soft yes, which is why I think it is an ideal fit for an engineer captain. But the damage output! Oh dear gods, the damage output.

still too swamped with snow to out up compelling argument.
$ spent for JHAS
$ spend for Dread
Even if you get both without spending a dime, someone did for you.
I wouldn't say it is bad form on Cryptic's part. It is fairly common practice and it's not like the player has to have any of it to enjoy the game.
That Azure nebula rescue mission screws with all carrier pet ai, not just the bugs.
no this was the actual jemmy bug, not the carrier pets, shoulda made that far more specific.
