I will post one thing in this thread, and then I am done.
After testing my 2 tric builds (2 out of 10 toons is not a lot to have, so no bellyaching about lack of skill), they are effectively dead. The best crit I was able to get in testing was 50K, and that was against an unshielded foe. I also tested transphasics, and quantum mines, each of those now deals a ton more damage than trics. I can understand the need to fix them, but the need was to fix the chained crits, not to nerf Trics back into oblivion.
Instead of fine-tuning trics, to correct their exploits, you took a bloody axe to them, and cleaved them in two. I have already decided what to do with my eng, after all he was using trics as a place holder, while I work to get him the gear I want. As to my Sci, I built her specifically for tricolbalts, and now she is sitting in a vesta, and I have no idea what to do with her (and this is more about how I want her to play, rather than what is strong.)
Thanking you cryptic for overreacting, and nerfing trics back to what they were a year and a half ago, useless. They were supposed to be the strongest weapons universe, oh well...

Trics with Projectiles skilled are still powerfull. My highest crit (one mine) was 150k. Highes Crit through shields was 35k.
I tested them yesterday (the refit for it is pretty cheap), but for them to be really effective, you need teamplay (more mines, tractors, EWP/Theta Radiation, gravity well etc.), then you can kill three enemies in one hit (alpha+omega+dispersal pattern beta). Was hilarious, however adapting to trics are fairly easy. We went agains 3 Sci,1 Tac and 1 Eng, using photonic shockwave, spready, FAW after this wonderful first strike. Since I was the only DD, and they didnt do that much damage, the match went very long. I tried to go back to my original built for alpha strikes, but was welcomed with a subnuke and 4 enemies firing upon me (giving me the second highest heal in the team).
But the funniest thing was a guy telling me I would be stupid and shouldnt play pvp anymore. The next matches I went with alpha strikes and without trics, had the highest damage of my team (and was TOP 3 of the match) and won 3 out of 4.
Tric Mines are still effective in PvE but imo, utterly worthless in PvP now. If you still want to use mines, you're better off with Transphasics or Concentrated Tachyon.
I just tested the mine on the spawn it kerrat right before reset, its still strong enough to wipe out most of the fed players at once without a crit, and will wipe them all out with a crit. The character I used was a tac with max points in both projectile skill and projectile weapon specialization, and was using 3 tricobalt consoles.
Looks like the changes are ok for me then, it makes tricobalt weak for people who arent fully specced into projectiles and using consoles, but still works for dedicated builds.
This always happens. An OP skill gets brought in line with everything else and suddenly all the people who were kicking TRIBBLE with it are ******** that they're useless now.
That's the point. You rely on that one thing then when it's changed you suck again. You had your fun, now L2P.

-To the people moaning they needed it for PVE, i feel your pity, you're playing a comically easy fame that a monkey with a blunt toothpick could beat, and if you really need tric mines then I think you need to go back to Farmville. Tric mining makes a mockery of STFs and means people can blaze through them and get the optionals? I say talk to your team and follow the same tried and tested plan that the rest of us easily rely on. If you cant then reconsider your teammates.
-To the people moaning they needed them in PVP, shame on you. Nothing in PVP should be able to kill SEVERAL players regardless of team just because they didn't spot tric mines in the ridiculously spam filled windows that todays PVP is. If you're now angry that a crutch has been taken away then reevaluate how you play and come back with some new ideas.
We ALL use a few crutches these days, Tactical Team? RSP? Jemmys? Its engrained
If you want to rely on broken doffs, boffs, voldy, tric mines etc thats totally fine! Just don't sulk when somebody spots your personal failing and calls you out on it.

- Granting a Point Defense system to Battleship and Dreadnought NPCs that would deal a tiny amount of damage per pulse (<50 dmg, does not ignore shields, no procs), but pulses very frequently and favors the nearest target.
*** This would be a soft-counter to Mine Spam One-Shots, but would have the side effect of making them nearly immune to High Yield torpedoes. (We also have the option of forcing it to target -only- mines, if necessary.)
Obviously if you're granting a point-defense system to counter mines it should only target mines. Negating the Romulan Hyper-Plasma Torpedo Launcher because of mines shouldn't even be an option being considered.
It's unusual for me to post on the forums but it shows the amount of negative emotions I got when I saw all trico damage has been halved.
Yes, I do use tricobalt in STFs, no overuse though. Torp + mine bomber runs on a beam tank cruiser. Until the last changes everything was fine, slow cooldown corresponded perfectly with high damage. Now with the halved damage they are totally useless for the bomber run maneuvers, because I loose much more damage while turning the cruiser to perform another run.
You know what? I've changed back to transphasics, a transphasic cluster torp in my case now does more damage than a trico mine.
And please, don't feel pity, I wouldn't appreciate. If you had almost all clanmates in the different timezone or if you ever waited for the clan to go raiding for an hour you'd understand why people engage elites through PUGs. Some people choose trico not because of it's easiness or huge boom it makes but of reason they have ships built to be Enola TRIBBLE descendants for nothing else can do dps for a cruiser in STO. Having tricobalt nerfed is having strategic bombers of elites nerfed. And having something strategic in a PUG is a way to victory.
but i have seen on this thread quite a few people smearing players using tricos , not to mention the dev's opening lines bout it , and i just have to reply to that
trico spread on pve and foundry - using dispersal pattern iii means usually sacrificing the classic torpedo + scatter fire tactic to get it , it will help greatly on pve since things move slower over there but its hell to implement it on PVP
much like scatter fire rules on pve but on pvp it does 50% of the dmg if not less
based on that logic u should nerf scatter fire as well ...not to mention torpedo spread .or anything with an aoe dmg that does loads more dmg on pve then pvp
as for PVP + trico spread in itself : it is very hard going vs experienced player to use a spread trico that would actually hit him because of the following :
1.he can shoot them down very easily using turret / beam fire at will / other mines ..etc...basically mines have no hull so 1 hit would kill them regardless of it dmg .
2.he can outrun them easily
3.brace for them
biggest problem is of course number 2 ..u have to spek further then just mines to actually hit ur enemy ...beam target engine , tractor beam ..its an entire different build
so if ur an opportunist on pvp and bide ur time for that one spike u could score big time
trico spread is the tool of the smart pvper's ....gave also the cruisers something to fight off escorts that come off behind them and hammer them with alpha strike to death , made them think twice b4 positioning on their tail and just fire
which btw i suspect most of the cryers bout tricos are - escort flyers that is - cause it was one hell of a wep vs pesky escorts .
so now u pretty much ruined it , with out even checking it on ur own or the full honest reasons why people cry about it .
its like u have a crying meter and when people gang up on enough cries be it true or not u simply nerf the thing.
so now we are back to escorts mindlessly shooting everything they got with no hint of smarts behind it while simple cruisers - enterprise class like ones are again left defensless vs them ganging up on u .
good call .
Now you PVE guys need this for PVE? Boy, you really, really do need to go back to Farmville as aquitaine985 pointed out earlier in the thread.
That's not Tricobalts in general. What you're showing is a video of the borked up mechanics of the Tricobalt Shockwave Torpedo (Nadion Detonator Console), which was fixed a few weeks back.
This has nothing to do with Tricobalt Mines.
That said, there was another video somebody posted recently that showed a group of folks in an STF laying down a Tric mine field in front of the Transwarp gate in ISE, which almost instantly vaporized it. Also showed the same thing done to the cube things in CSE. NPC activates, Mines activate, BOOM = all dead.

I think its okay to adjust some weapons but the lowering in the last Update was really high. They have already lots of disadvantages due to the speed, the HP etc. So all in one they were not THAT overpowered.
I would suggest to reconsider the changes and draw a small amount back.
ATM they are as good as useless.
There damage is halved and pvpers are still crying and trying to insult pvers strange old community
----=====This is my opinion you don't have to listen and no one else has to read them these "OPINIONS" are based on my exploits and my learning other people will have their opinions and that's fine just don't knock my way of doing things thanks=====----
Tricobalts exist in the science tree. If you change the mine dispersal ability so lower ranks do not afffect tricobalts then science ships will not be able to use them anymore. PVP community, it's your own fault for neglecting support classes or abilities to shoot them down because all you know is how to do is grind someones aft in escorts. They are not OP.
I have learned that our pvp community is unlike most. If they loose they cry foul when no foul has been commited. That is what happens to a new gamer who zergs his way to admiral with no opposition and looses for the first time in his career.

Kinda late to the party, aren't you? Last post was just over a month ago, and the mentioned nerfs were first proposed in December. Some of the nerfs were implemented all the way back in January. Dispersal Patterns still affect trics.

If you nerf everything what does suppose to actually do damage ?
I'm not a TC user, but looks like soon everything will be so worse that we wont have any DPs-based thing to use. Yes, I got easy-killed by a set of these once, but it was my maneuver mistake, not the god-likeness of the weapon that did it.
They did such a thing to the new C&C games and after a few patches there was not a single unit in them that could actually do above average damage. Even the suppose-to-be-the-most-powerful-unit became a mockery.
The point is, theres way too many killing anything that does something good in this game.
Just like transphasic clusters; 15 sec cooldown between torp fire ? That's a very big mockery to any stealth / shadow kill users.
And having a global CD on torps is not only bad, but an aberration. Let's say energy weapons would need too much power to fire all at once, but what would prevent multiple torps from launching simultaneously ? See the absurdity ? A Russian nuke sub can fire 24 missiles at one with 240 targets locked. And there's no CD.
So instead of preventing everything from actually having some use, how about you try other solutions, like letting people relay on their skill a little to counter them ?
I mean...how dumb must a player be to willingfully enter a mine wall ?
I remain empathetic to the concerns of my community, but do me a favor and lay off the god damn name calling and petty remarks. It will get you nowhere.
I must admit, respect points to Trendy for laying down the law like that.

just yesterday i got killed by 2 tric mine impacts, they still work just fine. it used to take 1 mine, and people were blowing up gates first thing in STFs with them, thats the only reason tric mines got their damage nerfed, but cooldown halfed.
they are actually a good weapon right now, im not sure why no one uses them.

doesn't stop people from using the breen torp and rom plasma. right now faw use is at a bit of a low, because everyone knows its bugged
Sorry, apples and oranges there I feel DDIS.
I mean, sure people can FAW those things down, but you are comparing a unique torpedo/mine thing and a rep torp with tric mines.
Romulan torpedo you can mindlessly spam because it's good that way if you choose to (due to plasma fire stacking), and if it gets shot down, no biggie because then it's a FAW shot that was wasted on a torp and not a player.
Breen cluster, you either wait until there's no FAW, or you launch it at point-blank range and it instantly hits basically. And if something should still shoot it down, oh well, your timing was off, someone else's wasn't.
Mines of any type, you have to launch from your ship, they need to arm, and then after that will they head towards an enemy, and hopefully your enemy is still close enough to have them hit. Sure there are good ways of helping to get them to hit, but you could be looking at easily 5-10 seconds of time where they aren't really doing a whole lot, and that can be a long time.
I'm not trying to make a jab at your skills or anything DDIS. If you, or anyone else, is getting good use out of em, keep it up.
I remain empathetic to the concerns of my community, but do me a favor and lay off the god damn name calling and petty remarks. It will get you nowhere.
I must admit, respect points to Trendy for laying down the law like that.
The destabilized has hit points... the breen cluster only gets used when you can fire it point blank in someones face... and then it presents enough targets to get at least enough though to make it worth it.
Seriously though why is this thread still not locked.

Seriously though why is this thread still not locked.
