LOL, haha wow. Someone obviously takes things too literal.

not sure what that's supposed to mean, but being a major harry potter enthusiast and knowing pretty much every line from sorcerer's stone by heart, that was the first thing that came to mind when i read this line

I got one last night... oh my...

ISE, I was a replacement for someone with some sense who left...

I warp in, launch my wing cannons, notice I'm not in a fresh one. Notice combat to my right, and start to head that way. That is when I notice that the transformer on the left isn't dead...

Yup. For some reason they had blown the generators, but instead of dealing with the transformer and spheres, they were working on the right side... ??? ... Really? Yup... *Sigh*

Luckily me and the other replacement (Some KDF carrier, I really was to involved with the fight at this point to pay attention) jump to the left and start taking out spheres. After the 2 of us take out the left transformer, we head right...

The others hadn't even managed to kill the bloody cube yet...

Me and the carrier made short work of the right side, gate, and tac cube. I typically don't compain in PuG STF, I get what I pay for, but this time on my way out instead of my typical friendly thank you I shot out "Remember kids, normals first!"...

Edit: On rainbow builds - Some of you are missing what he is saying. He isn't saying rainbow is fine. He isn't saying rainbow is good. He is saying that mathematically rainbow is not these peoples major malfunction. Rainbow is just a symptom. If they are making such basic mistakes as using multiple energy types, it is indicative of much, much deeper problems. The rainbow beams themselves aren't really the problem, they are honestly one of the smaller things they are doing wrong. It doesn't make rainbow right to admit that its not as mathematically horrible as its reputation would suggest.

Also, its great fun to be running a torp build and mix a couple energy types to troll the purists...

Edit 2: If you want lots of different procs, you can run polarized disruptors on an Atrox, use a romulan + plasma proc console, slot 1 wing of danubes and one wing of stalkers, take omega graviton damage skill, wear omega 2pc, and slot DEM.

    Distruptor
    Polaron
    Plasma
    Omega
    Tetryon Glider
    Directed Energy Modulation
    Phaser
    Chroniton
    Tetryon
Whatever the name of the stalkers torpedo is, I can never remember

And all of that without being a skittle shooter!

Against my better judgement, I pugged KASE 15 mins before the server went down.

I knew these were probably not going to be the most experienced, so I said I'd take the right probes. I asked who was dealing with left probes... No answer.

As soon as we started fighting the tac cube my spirits dropped... We had a beamscort.

So the tactical cube blows up and I head right. I deal with probes, destroy some transformers and take out a borg cube. They still hadn't spawned theirs yet and were dropping like flys...

I take out the next batch of probes and a couple of seconds later spotter the left gates probes reaching the vortex. I made a mad dash towards it, but it was too late.

Okay.. Okay, I thought, so we failed the optional, no biggy. I mean I'm pugging, I never really expected them to be able to make the optional, no matter how incredibly easy it is. So I carried on, taking out the first generator.

Now, by this point they were still dealing with their first Borg cube (though they had spawned both), so I decided I needed to rush things. I quickly hurried over to the right side of the right gate and spawned the cube. Got it down to 30% before I died to a combination of it and the gate (I must have hit it with a stray shot), just as new probes appeared... Still managed to deal with the probes

Meanwhile the other four players had left six probes through.

Then one of the guys warped out, with 5 minutes left before the server went down. At this point my patience was exhausted and I warped out.

With the exception of one player, the rest of those guys would have difficulty in an NSTF, let alone an ESTF.

I'm once again resolute to NEVER pug any ESTF other than ISE. To many liabilities in the queues.

Note that I didn't spam abuse at them.

that shouldn't have been possible; shuttles haven't been able to queue for STFs since around S6's launch...unless they forgot to copy that part of the code over to hive when they released it

The nature of Cryptic's patch cycle leaves it vulnerable to reversions. Like the "beam to Qo'nos, I'm in the shipyard" bug. It's been fixed multiple times, and then the old code leaks in somehow.

Wouldn't surprise me much if some old code got used in the Hive, or if the old code managed to find it's way back in for all the STFs.

Not a bad STF as such, but my paranoia does leave me wondering whether the Borg received a buff in the last patch.

but the last cube's shield drains seemed more potent than usual, even with my MkXII Romulan/Embassy power insulator console installed, and I was one-shotted at least twice. I haven't changed anything on my Fleet Assualt Cruiser and it is/was usually FAR more durable than that!

    This,

    I noticed this too.

But hey, the Borg are supposed to be bad asses, I would imagine their shield drains would be superior.

Shuttles were banned long long ago from STF's. Read back from the original post and you'll see lots of early shuttle stories. Enough of us complained that the shuttles were taken out. Thank Goodness. :D

And yet another indication, that a lot of stuff in this thread (as well all those "my ship does 40k DPS with this crappy build!1!!", "LOL I onehit TacCubes" etc... posts all over this forum and in general chat) is vastly exaggerated or simply made up.

We really need them to allow us the creation of of mods/addons and the possibility to reliably extract certain information from the game, as pretty much every other mmo does. In WoW the bull****ting pretty much stopped when the "glass player" aka the armory went live and once people had the possibility to reliably parse and analyze encounters.

Okay... So not my worst but thought I should mention it...

    Infected Conduit Elite

I warp in with my Oddy and theres 4 tacs

Start on the cube and spheres and notice that dps is going slow but they managed it

Then off to the next cube and take care of it relatively fast

Then the gens... I don't quote the 10% rule... I ****ed up there. A guy pops one and we are able to take out the other gens and start on the Trans. Then the nanite spheres get to close and take it back to 100%. I begin attacking the nanites when I see I'm the only one doing so. So I tell them to kill the nanites. No reply but it got the point across and we are able to clear that Trans and finish up the spheres...

I then start on the next cube and see a tac start on a gen. Why I didn't state the 10% rule this time either idk. So we finished off the cube and as I look down to target a gen I see the one the tac was targeting pop. We the finish off the rest of the gens but by this time the nanite spheres have arrived. I tell them yet again to target the nanite spheres. Problem is that all of them are targeting a different one and nobody dps is all that great.

After about 3 waves of Nanites Spheres we finish the Trans.

This time I let them know the plan...

Spheres, Gate then Cube and to try to stay out of range of the cube as they have allready died a few times...

    The reply I get???

    "Too late..."

    My reply?

"Lol just kill the spheres and gate first"

So we begin on the gate and it takes around 3 mins with our dps. While doing this I state to them that anyone that would like to know how to do this the right way to stick around and I will explain.

So we finish the gate and start on Cube which takes about 5 mins.

Out of the four that I PuGd with 2 stayed to learn the right way to do it.

They said "Ty for info" and I went on my way.

I got 60 marks and a bnp for that.

But it just goes to show that a least some of them want to learn how to do them and will take the time to learn.

I'd rather help them and tell them how to do it then just go afk after they do something wrong like a guy did in a group I was in yesterday.

Just thought I'd put in my 2 cents. :D

Just played conduit normal, and we had 3 on one side, 2 on the other going after the generators. Needless to say, we quickly failed the optional, but after about 5 minutes of fighting and watching the others explode, I finally decided to do a Picard and take command of the fleet. So I told them we need to focus on one side. The other two come over to us, and it's sheer badlam. Chaos everywhere, but we're knocking teh transformer down a bit. Unfortunately, nanite's keep getting through. So it was a case of saying 2 heavy hitters stop the nanites that come through, the rest on the transformer.

After a minute to organise themselves, the flow of nanites stopped and teh transformer popped. Scurry over to the other side, and this one goes alot quicker as people are now playing their roles. The rest of the mission went by fairly easily.

So just agreeing with Soliddonut, there are times when people listen and will react if you do so without the insults.

That would be cool if we could actually see what another ship was doing. Many people, especially with rainbow/technicolor builds, state that they are doing 'AS MUCH' or 'MORE' damage than normal builds. Being able to see their DPS, damage figures, kills, deaths, number of STF battles and so on would be great. I see all the time people doing ZERO damage to a simple probe with their Rainbow/Technicolor beams or Skittles and claiming they are outshooting the rest of us.

One thing though about 'Vastly Made Up'. Even though shuttles have been banned for a long time the player who posted it COULD HAVE been refering to an event which happened BEFORE then ban.

Sorry for the typing, I just woke up. :o

just had two runs where one of the players went off in a four man team and hid somewhere saw that we weren't all flying escorts and destroying large pats immediate upon pressing the tactical escort iWin button and then left the team entirely by leaving the map.

Is there like some weird thing where they're seeing how many groups they can help make fail?

And what is it with people not realizing that in RA's you actually do have to kill the regen spheres? Are people really that unaware anymore?

Okay, this happened some time ago, so the details are a little sparse. Anyways, the worst experience I've had in recent memory is a time when, about two days after the launch of the 3 Year Ani event, I PUG'd into a Fleet Starbase Defense. You know, the five man one of course, I'm Tac/cruiser at the time to do some playtesting on the VA Ambi, I find myself with only three other players. (Not sure if the other one bailed at the last second or DC'ed and gave up but anyways)

So yeah, countdown before the first wave begins, I start out by dropping one of my heavy phaser sat turrets and getting into a good spot after saying 'Hi' (No response incase you were wondering, but I'm fairly used to that when PUG'ing so no big deal.)

Now, we were defending I think a T2 or T3 Starbase at the time, first wave warps in, and the other three immediately took one look at the approaching Orion fleet and say '**** that!' before bailing. Well, I was feeling ballsy so I figured '**** it!' and charge in.

I'm fairly used to Tac/Cruisering because of picking my 'free ship' as a cruiser throughout my grind to VA, so I'm rocking with 4 Adv. Fleet Phaser beams, a DBB up front and turret on aft along with quantum torps in support. I fly in pop my 'cruiser alpha strike' for larger groups which is to pop EptW2, TT1, Ap:A, Ap:B1, BFAW1 and TS1 and start going to work.

Now I admit, aganst such odds I knew I wasn't going to make it, but I was bored and figured 'why not?', that and the Starbase was probably doing as much damage as I was to the groups. Well, to cut this story short, I got to Wave 3 before the Starbase went down even with my throwing all my heals at it (couldn't get aggro off of it for love nor money in a beam boat). And not long after that, well, I found some really focused attention on me. Stuck it out until the timer ran out after having more or less soloed half of wave three and was surprised to be honest that I did as well as I had.

lol, I can pretty much manage that on Normal with my Tac/Cruiser setups, but on Elite I'd need some extra firepower.

Even funnier part: it wasn't a fleet cruiser, AND it was an Engi. But he was also running single cannons, turrets, KCB, and a hyper plasma.

Okay, I admit, NOW I'm impressed. Than again, turrets and Single Cannons do tend to get crapped on a little exessivly sometimes. I admit I once tried using a full turret build just to see how it did, was kinda neat to be this 'omni-directional pulse hose' but I still kinda prefer to have to manuver a little even in a big ship.

    There I was.... :D

    CSN

    Pugged in and said 'HI'

    One responce.

The mission went fine except for one Klink ship.

    We'll call him IKS Lollygag.

He sat at the Kang, never fired a shot.

Then he slowly came over to the cube, never fired a shot.

    The he died.

Then he came back over to the cube where I saw him fire a couple little torps, then nothing.

Then he floats over to the next cube, dies, never fired a shot.

Then he's off 49k away just setting there.

Then he comes back to cube three, I see a couple little disruptor beams pop out, then nothing.

    He dies again.

Then the carrier shows up and he comes in, fires off a tractor beam.

The nothing. He's just floating around slowly.

    He dies again.

    Mission over.

I type, 'Hey IKS Lollygag. Put some weapons on that boat.'

His accolade is just over 1000.

    How quaint. :D

    Maybe connection problems.
    Or something else to do.

    Ok. My ones.

The first is my first cure elite. And it shows how ignorant "elite" players can be.
Ok, back then i had a trident with jem set, jem arrays, plasma from the distore in front, distoreplasmamines in the back and polaronturrets.
Not that good but not that bad either. The bofflayout was semigood. It is a long time ago, but i realy remember it...

Ok, came in and i was typing something like "hi, i did cure before but this is my first elite, something i should know? hints?"
Yeah - complete silence. So i did as i have learnd. Kill the probes, go with the other. At the Kang was just one lonly cruiser who had problems and i was the only one who broke off everytime to help and who helpd to heal the kang. While the "fancy" escortpilots and an other cruiser where even ignoring the own bops on the cube they where on.
I died one or 2 times and, other then the "attackgroup" i was repairing my ship.

The probes, the neggi and the raptor on the center where cleared and the right was clean. And someone shooted at it. So i go over there to help. I didn't realize, that it was a supportship you can call when realy damaged. The cube was at 2%.
So i startet shooting and after a few shoots the cube explode.

Just a few secs later (not even the opt time was run out) in the chat "thank [Charakter Name] for failing", some bad words and then 2 escorts warped out. One of them was the often dying escort that would be my first suspect of calling the support.

Before they left i only was able to shout, that i asked for advice. With 3 we where not able to save the kang.

Now the fun thing starts. Some days later, cure elite. Center probes, right probes, right cube (I was just AAAA).
But i did as i was told and helped out on the left and the cruisers (warpplasma) and i slowed the raptors down and none reached the kang. Rest was a cakewalk and even the opt was reached...

    No comment on that...

But in the last weeks i had some fun too.
The one with the 2 gates (i just can't differ between kit and the other :D). I am able to hold all 4 probes without even moving and to take out a cube at the start and help at the small and the big gen that are near the path of the probes.
And i was "supported" bye a multicolor 7 beam 1 quantum Vesta. I have a Vesta with beams too (i want my aux high not drained) so i know what it can do.
He shoot at the small gens and called the cube, without doing real dmg and then he died.
After i killed the cube he was starting to shoot at the big gen but everytime probes comming through the gate (i said to him more then one time, that i don't need help) he came back for "help" using fire at will - and getting killed bye the attracked gate. Realy, i never seen someone getting shooted from the gate (he was realy bad at selfhealing) so often. It was like "fly in and get killed". So we where 4...
On the other big gen (i was at the right gate) finaly a escort appeared, that was like 5min in joining. He startet to shoot one gen, then some min nothing. Then the second, noting, dead, nothing, came back, shooting on the other 2 small gens and then on the big one. Killed from the cube, nothing, came back, killed the gen, killed the cube (i had taken to low health before) then just staying around until looting after donatara. A half afk player. So we where 3.
On the other side, they managed to call both cubes at the same time. And the engi that was on gateduty did a wonderfull job killing the probes and holding his ship togehter against the cube while the escorts where not in the moot for helping. Finaly, after 90s respawn, my friend in the Vesta was helping him. At last he got some shoots and buyed some time for the cruiser - with another death.
And then he "helped" on the other side like he did on my side.
And yeah, the 5km for donatara. The cruiser and I - yes. So she clocked more then one time.

    And 2 short ones.
Cure Elite (my old love). 3 escorts, one cruiser and my vesta. Every escort on an other cube. At the end we (they) only took 6 probes down (the cruiser and I had to fight against all bops) and called in 3 neggis and 3 raptors. Short story, under the escortrun of these 6 ships we where unable to protect the Kang from the bops.
Funfact, 2 of the escorts left before the Kang died and took the 1hour (2min later it was down). The cruiser zoomed in to go down fighting, i just stayed away after my 3. death and waited for the boom.

    Hive elite.
Started with 3 cruisers (2 of them where tac) and another Vesta. First cruiser zoomed in, using fire at will - 4 taccubes and the escortspheres on the run. And they where focus the fire on one of the taccubes, at last 3 did it. I even said "spheres" but...
2 cruiser left, 2 Catian Carriers came in. And we where killed and we where killed and we where killed. Finaly 3 taccubes and some spheres where camping the spawnpoint for some min. I respawned and i was dead just 2sek later.
When they left i just left. I think for leaving Hive is possible without 1 hour ban for sft.

I did a Khitomer Vortex elite the other day where an Armitage couldn't kill probes. Truly sad.

    That's not 'Truly Sad'.

What's 'Truly Sad' is when you see THREE Armitage all shooting at the same probe and can't kill it.

Now THATS 'Truly Sad' and it happens more often than people think. :D

That is a pretty standard tactic - MRRMLL.
Three ships fly ahead and clear the middle BoPs while the other two go left and right to clear the BoPs from there. Then one of the two joins the other three in the middle.
They clear the middle cube of nanite probes with four ships who also handle the BoPs from the middle cube. The single ship gets the BoPs from the other two cubes left and right.
After clearing the nanites below the middle cube, the four ships proceed to the right cube and clear them of nanites, get the BoPs and finally go for the right cube. The single ship intercepts the BoPs of the middle and left cube in the meantime.
When the right cube explodes, three raptors start from the middle and left cube. Those are dealt with either as a group or with good damage dealers by single ships before they can reach the Kang.
Middle cube goes down, three Negh'vars spawn at the remaining left cube. All five players can deal with them, the nanites and the cube.

The tactic allows some room for groups without a l33t damage build and requires less coordination once everyone knows what needs to be done.
And i was "supported" bye a multicolor 7 beam 1 quantum Vesta. I have a Vesta with beams too (i want my aux high not drained) so i know what it can do.
(I think You mean Kithomer and a Vesta can only use 3 front and 3 aft weapons. Why one would choose to use beams on her instead of cannons - I'll never know.)
Realy, i never seen someone getting shooted from the gate (he was realy bad at selfhealing) so often. It was like "fly in and get killed".
Gates can cause a LOT of damage if You get in too close and are not exactly below or above them (~3km) or at their side (~7km) or keep Your distance (~9km).
