Q: (GT01) What happened to the extra Android BOFF options? We were informed that wed not only get male and female Androids to choose from, but that wed also have Tactical and Science branch officers to choose from too.
Dstahl: This question required some investigation to determine what happened. Turns out that at the time there was an issue that prevented those additions from happening. That issue appears to be resolved in Season 6 and so now it boils down to having one of the developers revisit this and put in the options.
Well, that's... something, at least.
Huh... You'd've won that shiney new penny I offered, had you taken my bet...
Then again... dstahl's answer doesn't really provide a resolution... >shrug<
considering that they're ready to go, and only need costumes, or so we were told, DEV time, isnt' a factor, its art team time that is. Given they have 1 uniform variant as it is, thats even less work, of the 6, they're now down to 5. That reason btw was in MARCH. that reason wasn't it needs S6, it was they need TIME to get the uniforms done, time that Cryptic decided to use, making the lobi outfits.
quite honestly, they have no acceptable excuse anymore, its over 6 months late, its been delayed by everything under the sun, some times more than once. Now to be told it now needs S6? flat out inexcusable in any way, shape or fashion.
I consider devs to be any employee of cryptic that changes the MMO in any way. The art team is part of devs, marketing and GMs are not.
I know it's been a while since this post, but it's still relevant.
Cryptic continues to sell lifetime subs when every other MMO developer that I know of that has offered them had quit before this long after launch. Cryptic occasionally puts lifetime subs on sale to encourage more people to buy them (they are on sale now, as a matter of fact). These two facts are significant evidence that Cryptic does want us here, does want subs, and aren't just focused on the microtransactional business model. If they didn't want subscribers, let alone lifers, why would they try to attract more? If they don't care about subscribers, why do they even reward them over non-subscribers? You'd think that if they didn't care, there's be absolutely no incentive to subscribe, and lifetime subs wouldn't be offered at all, let alone ever put on sale and have additional benefits over just subscribing normally.
The fact is, they care, we matter, but there are forces at work here that we aren't privy to, and it would be unprofessional, as well as inadvisable with respect to legality and security, to discuss with us. We're on the outside, and that fact should be applied to all silences, to all incomplete and unclear messages, coming to us from Cryptic.

Lifetime Subscriptions are NOT Subscriptions. They are one-time lump purchases after which, the customer needs not pay anything ever again to get the same benefits that regular Subscribers would get. That they sell them at all is more indicative that they DON'T need people regularly tithing a fixed amount of money. That they still sell them now after the game has gone F2P is even more indicative of that.
How can one Not be (cynical), at least a little...?
Considering the history of the way things have been put into the game...
This particular thread is a shining example of that history.
<shrug>
I asked the same question GT01 did in the Ask Cryptic (complete with link back to this thread), as well as the bit about the faction pins they showed us a year ago and still haven't made it into the game, and I feel sufficiently satisfied with the answers to both questions.
Would it have been better if someone had poked their head in this thread earlier to say, "Hey guys, we're going to hold off until Season 6 so we can utilize some of the code in that build to actually make this thing work right"? Yes it would have, but I'm certain that wouldn't have changed the outcome.
(Same thing about the faction pins, all I was looking for was a status update. It's too bad that they have no plans to attach to them right now, but at least we have an update as to what happened to them... after asking several times)

Yes it would have been a lot better if someone had said that. It would have even been more better (?!) if we weren't told we were just waiting on the art department to knock out a couple of costumes. I really think you're coming late to the discussion and don't really know what's been going on for the past 7+ months. If you are aware of the full story then you appear to be ignoring a few key points in the Android variant history. I'm done apologizing for Cryptic.

I have been following this thread (and the other related threads) since its inception. Like the devs are apt to explain however, just because I'm not posting constantly in here doesn't mean I'm not reading it or keeping up with what's going on in here. I typically only post to keep this thread refreshed on the front page to increase its visibility so that should a dev with some information on the matter happen to be browsing the forum, they would be more likely to see it.
The Season 5 codebranch went live on 12/1/2011. That we were updated that JHeinig didn't get the new "tech" he required until mid-December should probably have been a clue that whatever he was working on would be in a different codebranch than what we were seeing. IE, Season 6.
We both want the same thing: to get the Android variants in the game and information on whatever is causing them to be anything otherwise. However, I do not believe the best way to get the information or results is to throw tantrums, raise a pitchfork mob, or constantly tell us about how you've "given up" on the topic (which only makes it apparent that you haven't), when all that's required is a constant reminder that we're still waiting, we're paying attention (and the devquote re-caps are useful), and we're not going to let it go without an answer. Having "passion" for something doesn't give anyone license to be irrational, belligerent douchebags that have to spit hate and bile toward anything that doesn't give you what you want. Being rational and mature also means being able to carry yourself in a reasonable manner when the answers you get aren't the answers you want. Now that we know for sure that we're waiting on the Season 6 codebranch no amount of ranting, raving, or even 'venting' is going to change the fact that we're not going to see the Android variants until after Season 6 launches.

Well good, then you've noticed how I haven't said I've given up, and how I have said I intend on keeping this thread alive and on page 1 until we get an answer.

I said I gave up hope on these things, but as this thread still floats to the top of the threads forums, I occasionally click, read and respond to it. It does not make me hypocritical or mean that I haven't actually given up.

On topic, off topic, agree, disagree... I'm just happy to see posts here so this thread (and this issue) is kept alive and kicking until there is some sort of resolution.
So you just post on whatever you click on regardless on whether or not you care about or have anything useful to apply to the topic?
So what you're saying that I'm not allowed to post unless I have some sort of vested interest and care deeply about the subject?
I am very glad that you, or people like you don't make the rules for this forum.
Personally, I have no real vested interest because I haven't actually touched the game in months; I just post here whenever I'm bored at work and feel like it. I don't have to post because I feel like I have anything to contribute, I can just post "lol /10 char" if I feel like it; but I do not have to conform to your rules and reasoning for posting. kthxbai
Hopefully we'll get a release window for Season Six soon. If the holdup with these will be removed with the new season, hopefully we will see this issue knocked out quickly.
We could really use a dev response that would say that will be the case.
I'm a geek! From the time I heard of the Android Officer I had one thing and one thing in mind. Andromeda! Mine was going to look just like Rommie but she was going to be called EXO. "Ship Made Flesh" Tact officer? IDK But would be nice but more important a Woman Ground officer. This has been a bit of a let down to me.. I hope they are correcting this. With how quite as of late I have doubts:(

This is actually almost identical to the concept I'm using for my Android. Andromeda's Ship Avatar AIs make so much more sense than any individual Android or even (Emergency lol) Hologram AI in Star Trek. I call mine ASCEE (yes, that's a play on ASCII) for Automaton, Ship Computer Excursionary Extension.
Basically, when beaming down, relevant data can be copied over from the ship's computer into this automaton to perform as an additional away team member that can also perform ship's computer actions without having to send a transmission to the ship that may be detected, intercepted, and/or give away the position of the away team or ship. Upon return to the ship, the ASCEE's new data and experiences can be uploaded to the main ship's computer and integrated into the ship's AI as a whole. The physical automaton is modeled after a female humanoid figure (as ships themselves are historically referred to as females), although generally slightly more identifiable as an artificial construct than duplicating an actual biological entity (No reason to give these things and the people around them delusions that they are anything other than artificial constructs. Don't need any more incidents like Data, The Doctor EMH, Moriarty, or Gein).
I'm just not sure what type to make it when the rest of the Android variations come out. It could be Tactical (as an extension of an Advanced Escort Ship Computer), or Science (as an away team member, ship computer functionality may be best to handle science roles), or Engineering (it is a ship system after all is said and done). Currently I'm using a Science Alien BOff as ASCEE's stand-in right now, but I'm also leaning toward Engineering. The good news is that after the system gets in place so we can trade them in properly, I could technically make all 3 classes, with each trade-in like I'm re-programming ASCEE's core functionality (although re-skilling would eat up BOff points which are supposedly going to also end up as Fleet Starbase inputs, so maybe I don't want to reprogram ASCEE too much).
Wow you two are nerds..... with the exact same train of thought as me......
but I loved the idea that Data was not only a crew member but that he was also a walking computer database for Starfleet information. i know that in game the Androids aren't as advanced as Soong's boys yet, but I figure they WOULD be advanced enough to be a walking version of the ship computer system, although mine is more of an interface rather than it's avatar. Luckily his default name was Lij so i just nerd it up by saying it's short for Library Intelligence Junction. Also I never let him leave the ship because I'd hate to be the captain to explain how the Starfleet database ended up in enemy hands because i took it on an away mission.
Quick question (somewhat) on this topic; I've well passed 800 days much like others. I didn't claim my android and now when I visit the vendor, it shows the android but I don't have a token or anything that could allow me to claim it. Is this intentional or a bug and I need to submit a ticket for it?

As soon as I found out (circa First Contact or so) that Brent Spiner was tired of playing Data not because he was done with the character but because he was tired of the makeup process, I had a similar idea for Data.
Basically, my idea was that he'd get downloaded into the ship and become a hologram who looked human and aged. But that, as a Hologram, you could also warrant him looking a bit CG and just bring Brent in for voiceover.
I heard before that Nemesis was a part of a two part plan by Spiner and John Logan and I like to think that's what they had in mind for the Nemesis sequel, had it been produced.
There's a lot of clues to this. Spiner and Logan said they had ideas for at least one more film. I understand a chunk of the Nemesis budget went into creating a 3D Brent Spiner... and that the leap between ships was done to justify making the model but that they were prepared to do more with it.
I think a huge thing that would have made Nemesis better would have been if they'd had a younger lookalike (with CG and prosthetics) as B4 (acknowledging Data's visual aging, even if it was slower than Brent Spiner's) and had Patrick Stewart as Shinzon.
The script had issues but one core problem I had was that I never bought Tom Hardy as a young Picard... and the emotional themes of the movie hinged on me buying that.
Every time they were face to face, it was supposed to be this striking resemblance. But I never bought it.
I heard a rumor that James Marsters (along with Jude Law) was considered for the part. I would have bought that easier. Another trick I would have done would have been to get Patrick Stewart in a voice studio to record key lines and have the audio engineers mix it with Shinzon's voice.
What's funny to me is that they did this in the episode "Documentary Filmmaking Redux" on the TV show Community. They had one character playing another in a TV commercial. And while they let Joel McHale's performance carry the scenes where he was impersonating Jim Rash, they selected a line or so of dialogue that, as I understand it, was actually a transition between their voices. Then, later in the episode, they had Jim Rash's voice turn into Joel McHale's as his character broke down.
That would have been AMAZING with Shinzon. But the conceits all relied on seeing Picard and Shinzon as the same person (which never sold for me) and seeing Data and B4 as totally different people (which never sold for me either and took impact away from the ending).
Hey Cryptic devs, any update on the 700 day vet reward android variants?
dstahl has said in Ask Cryptic, sometime in Season 6 or later. The "or later" is my addition. Therefore, it is at least another month of waiting for it to get fixed.

I'm well aware of what he said, I quoted it earlier in this thread. That wasn't an update, it was shrugging us off once again. A concrete update, perhaps the result of the 'investigation' that was 'needed', would be nice, you know? Clear up the confusion and the vagaries of the various parties involved in the making of the androids, and get them and 700-day vets on the same page.

After 500+ posts and nearly 35,000 views, it seems we've gotten all the correspondence Cryptic is willing to give on this.
I guess my tiny shred of hope will have to carry me to the season 6 launch. If the variants are still a no-show after that I doubt I'll have much hope left for my female android bridge officer.
