Are you saying that they can magically fix genetic defects and replace whole spines, yet they cant make a hover chair, seems a bit weird considering the fact that thes faster than light space ships involved.

i know its impractical to add right now, it does not stop me from wanting it though. There are lots of wish thread around here, this is mine.

If they could magically fix spines there would be no need for hover chairs.

In fact even nowadays experimental medical embryonic treatments are showing great potential to heal damaged nerves and there are people who are trying those plates that pass electronic impulses past the damaged area of the spinal column and into working nerves in their legs. It was in the news recently a guy who managed to move his legs again.

If we can do this now imagine what we can do in 400 years time!

Ask the people who buy hundreds of uniform slots.

They wear those on away missions as well and they take much less development time.

Hahahaha, nice way to try and twist my words, but you know full well that isn't what I'm stating at all. Don't try to put words in my mouth that I simply havn't stated.

As others have pointed out, it is canon in Trek that disablities can be cured, and infact every situation we've seen someone use a wheelchair in Star Trek has shown that the person has 'not' been able to fulfil the duties of commanding a Starship, thats not to say they couldn't how a position at a Stabase though. Just like todays modern militaries, you 'have' to have certain physical attributes to be able to perform your duties (Hence why there are height restrictions in the navy, becasue if you are too short you can't close the bulkhead doors properly and thus risk the ship sinking in an accident), the same goes for Starfleet, a memeber of the ships crew in a wheelchair would not be able to use Jeffories tubes and as such, not be able to perform essentail tasks in an emergency.

As I previously pointed out as well, many socail zones has stairs, so you would have to revamp all the social area's in teh game to make this ahppen as well, which is 'alot' of work. Having loads of players zapping around in hover chairs is not something I'd assciate with Star Trek.

Yes, maybe youre right, I was twisting things, but only to give you my point of view, I see Hazard emitters and such like as redicouls as you see disabled captains.

Yeah but that came as a result of people wanting to do something iconic from the shows and sit in the Captain's chair on the bridge! And I think everyone who plays this game wanted that.

If you're so fat you need a wheelchair how would you have even been accepted into Starfleet?

Honestly, I wouldn't mind some sunglasses as say, Risa-ware. Or maybe with the Section 31 uniform to complete the "Matrix" look.

Thank you! nice to see people being very optimistic here. :D

This may not sound very compassionate but the majority of players probably are not disabled and therefore wouldn't have much need for an ingame wheelchair and I don't think most people would want lots of development time spent on working out how they could be implemented to satisfy a small amount of people.

I'm sorry if I may be sounding harsh but I'm really not wishing to hurt the feelings of disabled players.

Um, that's because he was an actor. "Real" starfleet officers would be far more active and that would keep them fit.

He could still carry out his duties as well even if he was a bit portly

its not harsh and dont worry about hurting my feelings :p

I can understand that its unlikely to happen, but with the amount of hate posts in here, its like I'm not even allowed to bring it up and request it. Like my request has somehow less importance than any of the other requests that have been and gone.

Oh get over yourself. Either play the game or don't let the door hit you on the ***. or on the back of the wheels as the case may be.

Yeah those hate posts are really bad and this suggestion thread seems to have filled up with flames and trolls (which I may have inadvertently contributed too) and so I'm going to stop posting in here now to respect your suggestion :)

I, myself, am a disabled. But one would think that if our society were to survive til the 25th century that there would be significant advances in medical science so as to make living with disabilities easier. And in some cases...make disabilities not so obvious.

Maybe they have gotten better at repairing the body in STO's time period.
Remember this episode? That said, I dont believe people that age are still serving in Starfleet. There is probably a mandatory retirement after 100(for humans anyway) or something =p

Listen to Nagus OP.....he is wise.

But Capt Pike? Aslo there was a chick in DS9 that had a wheel chair.

The "Chick" in DS9 was from a low gravity planet. She couldn't walking in normal gravity, there was a treatment avaiable for her. As to disibilites, look at nog he had his leg blown off, and they gave him a new leg. Under normal circumstances most ailments with the body can be corrected through science.

On that chick she was a featured charter in Star Trek TNG novel Gemworld. It was really cool to read about her planet. I highly recommed this soft canon book, it is one of the best.

Sorry to say dude, but you need to suck it up, most people who suggest something that others dont agree with get just as many 'hate' posts. Only they are nothing to do with hate, and all to do with people simply disagreeing with you.

Your disability has nothing to do with people feeling this would be a waste of resources, nobody hates you so please stop saying they do.

FurQue, just to be clear, I disagree with wheelchairs having a place in the 25th century. Science would have advanced too far by then.

Posts like this make me feel sick. Please dont tell me there is no hate posts in here.

Ya know, in my experience, the disabled are pandered to. The "normal" people always having to give deferrence to the "disabled".

This is somebody expressing an opinion, I see no hate in it, even if I may not agree with it. You have a choice to take things personaly or not, you chose the former, that is your problem not ours.

It would also take a whole new modeling system to allow for this. I don't think the game engine can support it, and right now the Devs have other things they are trying to develope.

Besides the wheelchairs and sunglasses. Why not have a hat like Captain Archer for those hot sunny days on Risa?
