Disabilities suck

SystemSystem Member, NoReporting Posts: 178,019 Arc User
I've been getting really upset by the lack of disabled people within STO, I mean I have to use a wheel chair in real life, I'd like to be able to use one in the game too. Capt Pike had one, so its certainly cannon, any chance this could be added?

Maybe they have gotten better at repairing the body in STO's time period.

Like I said, in STO's time period. That is 30ish years after Nemesis.

Like that episode of TNG, "Ethics" - the genitronic replicator, where they were able to scan the genetic information and basically replicate a new organ to replace the damaged one. It's been forty years since then, I'm sure it's probably had SOME innovation by now, heh.

What about the elderly and infirm? I'm almost there! There simply has to be wheel chairs. :(

True. What if someone was missing their legs from a great battle? Or their body was cut in half? I'm game for wheel chairs.

Nog lost a leg in battle. They simply replaced it.

But like any military or shipping, piloting industry, wouldn't there be restrictions if you were in a wheelchair?

Not trying to cause offence, but surely Starfleet ship officers have to be in top physical condition to carry out there tasks which could be quiet strenuous and demanding.

Remember this episode? That said, I dont believe people that age are still serving in Starfleet. There is probably a mandatory retirement after 100(for humans anyway) or something =p

No offense taken, I've taken all I can ever take from RL to be annoyed by anyone on the internetz :p

I dont see how I couldnt hold a gun in a chair, maybe the melee attacks would be useless, but I sure something could be worked out.

Have you been reading this thread? Do you remember the post I made earlier talking about how STO's time period is 30 years after nemesis, which would make it alot longer after TOS?

Also for the girl on DS9's case Cardassian artificial gravity systems interfered with Federation antigrav systems. Dax made the claim that she hasn't seen a wheelchair for 300 years. If we ever see a wheelchair, then it is either due to some race which evolved in a low gravity, some colonist from a luddite or poor colony, or some race that is not part of the Federation or Klingon Empire and is at about early 21st Century technology or earlier. Any member of the Federation would not have a wheelchair and any member of the Klingon Empire should not have a wheelchair. Therefore, no Captain would ever have a wheelchair or the 25th Century equivalent.

Not gonna happen, Cryptic have much bigger priorities than designing, modelling, texturing and animating wheelchairs (lets not even get into what they'd have to do with getting them to work with the alien species being able to be so huge and so tiny and not making the wheelchairs look like either small cars or micro machines). It's simply too much work for too little payoff.

Not something you want to read i'm sure, but that's the likely outcome.

Photonic chair!!! Of course if the power goes out you'll be flopping on the ground.

Seriously though, if they can make Data's body then surely they can make a cyborg style fix to lower extremities.

Its not something I want to read you are right, they could however make a species that was wheelchair bound and make the sizes all very similar? This would take most of the work out of resizing them.

Data was unique though, they could not replicate him without killing him.

But its years later and the tech would not have gone unstudied. Some advances would have been made.

He doesnt care about anything like this he wants his wheelchair in the game and could care less how relevant or behind the times it is. That being said I see the likelihood of this happening to be non existent. I cant see a whole lot of people being interesting in using it and they arent gonna waste dev time on one person.

I think there would be a lot of people wanting to go into a chair if they could.

Oh no I think your request for a wheelchair was genuine. I do however think that you and the other guys with the same avatar are either friends or the same person lol.
