So, whilst Im taking a break of NW (its good for ur soul) and playing other MMOs (no regrets :o), I stumbled upon the news of this game:

Sword Coast Legends

I didnt looked or read about, only took a quick peek at some screenshots, and since it looks a lot like the old D&D games (Baldurs Gate, Icewind Dale, Torment, etc), I thought it would be nice to let ppl know, esp the veterans and nostalgic players (dare I say, Epic Level players :P).

If, by any means, this is not the place to post such news, I beg the mods to transfer this thread to the proper place.

Still looks fun. Caveat - the digital download is via Steam (pre-order link). I don't mind Steam but it's worth noting for those that don't like it.
    I aim to misbehave

Thanks for the heads-up about Steam.
And it appears it will only be available through Steam.
    That's a game-breaker for me.

Yeah, it's a digital only game. The pre-order grants you a code for redemption through Steam. However, it cannot be pre-ordered through Steam, only through their site (via digitalriver) as some of the pre-orders come with physical goods. I've pre-ordered already and placed it in my Steam Library. Steam is showing it ready, just waiting for it to become available to be able to download it.

As the game was just announced today, and the website/forum just went up today also, it may end up making it to other markets in the future. For now though, it seems as though it is a Steam-only title.

I don't mind it being on Steam, as I already have a number of Steam Games as it is.

I get it; why publishers like Steam. I bought Skyrim which installed Steam from the DVD and all that... hated it. (And hated that there was no mention beforehand or anything - dumped it for a refund when that happened.)

I'm not saying Steam is bad or anything, only that I, myself, don't like it. Perhaps after launch there will be other methods of obtaining it directly or something (the new game, I mean) - if not then I'll just keep on with the stuff I'm already playing. :)

But, yeah, for me: Steam is a deal-breaker every time.
And yes: it most certainly is a personal issue. LOL

If it's successful through Steam, they may be able to bring it to other platforms later.

    @thread: Nifty.

Steam is a big let down for me too.

We will support the game only because its an official D&D title. However, Im not buying until its available outside the Steam conglomerate of games (of which I have zero interest in, and never will)

    Exactly!
Looks like it'll allow us to build our own quests/campaigns, but also drop in changes (or spiders... or beholders maybe) in real-time response to party actions.

The announcement of Neverwinter on the Wizards of the Coast web site was a very exciting moment for me. I invested early and became a Founder of this game by buying all of the available packs. Closed beta opening day was a day I rescheduled all appointments to be the first character with the name of Elminster because he is The Chosen One of Mystra. Those days were very exciting and always memorable.

Now, Wizards of the Coast is releasing a new game for the Sword Coast of Faerun called Sword Coast Legends and I feel the same excitement again.

Has everyone heard about this game and what players from Neverwinter will be joining the excitement of a the new game

I would like to start a thread here and hopefully begin a community from Neverwinter in the Sword Coast Legends game.

Not really. Forgotten realms wasn't my cup to tea to begin with, and honestly, for $60 bucks, sounds kind of sparse when you only get 5 races (that means the 4 core + 1 from the PHB) and 6 classes (that's what half of them?) Sounds incomplete to me and like they are going to be chucking tons of DLC at you just to get the stuff you might actually want.

I like the premise.. It looks an AWFUL lot like NW... so that's gotten me thinking.. is NW the petrie dish for this other game...? That would make sense.

The first thing I thought of when looking at the screenshots was Baldur's Gate. A return to D&D with rich storylines sounds intriguing.

Its not an MMO. It looks to be mainly a single player game, with an option for 3 other players and a DM. 5 players is hardy massively multiplayer.

So no PVP, no economy, just a single player game with a few friends. And a DM along to ensure Monty Hall type rewards.

Oh I've seen it alright. And I'm quite excited for it to be released already. But since we can't discuss other games here, even if they are WotC games, expect this thread to be locked before you can say supercalifragilisticexpialidocious backwards.

Careful there, I believe saying supercalifragilisticexpialidocious backwards will summon a pit fiend.

It also looks like it allows DM's to create full adventures and will likely decimate the foundry here unless Cryptic fixes the hundreds of foundry issues.
