    NOTICE:

To clarify our rule about discussion of other games:

Discussion of other games that are NOT competing MMOs (e.g. console games, FPS, "conventional" RPGs such as, say, Chrono Trigger or the Tales series of games): Yes, but in Off Topic

Discussion of competing MMOs: Not allowed. If you wish to discuss the merits of a competing MMO, might I suggest going to their official forums to discuss it.

Merely mentioning a competing MMO, though, does not necessarily break the rules so long as the primary focus is on NW and it's not used in a fashion such as "don't play NW, come play this instead" For example, "I saw this feature in SWTOR, why can't we have something like this in Neverwinter?"

Hopefully, this clarifies some confusion and misunderstanding. As with any other moderator notice, please do not respond or reply directly to this post, but use the PM system to address any questions or concerns.

Personally, NW left such a nasty taste in my mouth, I don't think I could ever recover loving anything D&D related from this point on.
Yup, its as if we bought what we thought was a home (with our attention, time and for many, money) but instead it was a hotel room, and mod 6 was checkout day.

This looks awesome, and I'm really looking forward to it, but I think pre-ordering is not a good idea. I'll wait till I see some reviews.

Steam is also a deal breaker for me, also because of Skyrim. Never again.

Skyrim - a great game. A great single player OFFLINE game purchased on DVD that forced me to install a bloated on-line application that I did not want and that has a habit of updating itself when all I want to do is continue playing the game I bought. Steam is just the latest in a long line of things that seem to punish people who buy the proper legal product rather than just downloading a dodgy copy.

    One word: DITTO.

Steam is a massive deal-breaker for me and for precisely the same reason: The Skyrim fiasco. On top of that seeing all the forum horror stories about people buying Zen Points through Steam and never qualifying for Zen Transfer promotions and the dark cloud over Steam caused by PWE being (more od less) forced into putting Zen buyers from there on probation and whatnot.

Obviously all of this is only my own perspective and beliefs, but just the same: looks like an awesome game, but the Steam issue is a deal-breaker of epic proportions.

The new Game of Thrones game might be an interesting alternative for me to investigate, though. ~winks~

Also, you need to invite players to play your dungeon where as in NW, it just sits there, ready to play for everyone. If it's the no of plays you're after, NW would be a much safer bet unless you have a bunch of friends already into DnD.

Not necessarily. We don't know how that will work yet. I can easily imagine them providing a dungeon download that 1-4 players can play without DM. Similar to foundry, clients simply load up the maps on their machine. Since they are going to have DM ratings and such, I can't imagine they wouldn't have a lobby/library of user "modules" available.
