Having spent a majority of the day doing the various events I decided to post a few of my thoughts on the events included along with what I feel each one did right or wrong, I will try and keep it as constructive as possible.
1. Twilight Run sled race- I found it to be fun and challenging, a good test of reflexes and a very interesting minigame, I would love to see more like this in the future but maybe with a few hazards that send you back to the start/give you some sort of penalty. I'd love to see some pitfalls, some traps, and what is any racing game like that without the blue shell!? I would also suggest possibly providing a mount for anyone not high enough level to have one or possibly standardizing mount speed across the board. Speed is a factor due to the gates after all. I also enjoyed being able to watch various people running the race at certain parts of the village, spectating is fun to.
2. Monsters on ice- The slipping and sliding ice mechanics made combat very frantic and chaotic but I found it very fun, also thank you for making the monsters slide to, it would not be fair if only the players were sliding and the monsters were not. I would suggest changing up the tagging system for the enemies though, a certain other mmo I play grants everyone that does damage credit for the kill on the monster, so long as you do some damage as well you get credit/loot for it. I am aware this game has that system in place, but for the event I think the system should be much more generous in what it considers "enough damage for credit." I know there are some complaints about it, but so long as you rank in you get the needed Winterkill emblems for the lights crafting so I have no complaints, on that note:
3. Light Crafting- It's an interesting setup, but I think from this particular profession we could learn a very valuable lesson that could be applied to the other crafts and I hope cryptic considers it. Having lots of short cd tasks to assign makes the craft a lot more fun than the others. I implore you to add a lot more shorter cd things to crafting, crafting is one of the things I love most in any mmo I play, I'm not a huge fan of the deploy npc style but I got used to it in swtor, I really like that I can send my npc's out and go make a sandwich or something and my crafting is still going without me needing to babysit. I would love it if this is kept in the game with a few more ranks, possibly convert it in to a fishing profession. Since we're talking about it:
4. Fishing- Let me just say, I love this, I mentioned my love of crafting, that also includes running around gathering various resources, having a craft like this is very fun and I will be sad to see it go, having a gathering profession with the option to turn the fish in for something (lights in this case) is a lot of fun. It could be done in the same way, allow us to turn in fish for AD, add a level requirement to certain fishing zones. Imagine the current fishing model, in lower level areas you can catch brown breams, something like 100 for 50 AD, but in the highest level 60 areas you have a much higher chance of catching the blue and purple quality fish. Blue quality could be 20 for 100 AD, purple could be 10 for 200 AD. It allows more options for making AD without making it too easy, having spent the better part of several hours just fishing I think those rates would be very fair.
Misc thoughts:
1. I feel the prices for the companion is a bit too high for a green quality, 3200 would make sense to me for a blue or even a purple, but for green quality I feel that 2k would be better.
2. The weapon skins, scarves, and companions are all very nice visually, whoever designed them deserves a lot of credit in my opinion, I feel that all of them look fantastic.
3. The zone itself is also very pretty, very atmospheric and peaceful, I really like it. I will be sad to see it go!
4. I like the ice mechanics for movement, feels more "real" to me but it can be circumvented entirely by just jumping, maybe hotfix it?
5. Minor nitpick, why no snowball items to throw at people?
That about covers it! All in all I really liked what they did with it.

At the point when the event hits the zenith period, rewards will likely double, so 3000-3200 is not too high a number knowing that. You can get them out of kits and off mobs as well as the event. It would be nice if they were more common off the mobs so you didn't feel compelled to go to the holiday zone if you don't want to.
Twilight Festival area is very well thought out. I love the ice-slide mechanic as well. The mini-crafting is nice, but it would have been cool to use the event as a launching point for a brand new fishing skill. oh well, dream the dream.
I don't really like the weapon skins, look to kid-crafty, like something you'd buy at Michael's. The dagger may be the only exception, but at least i don't see snow effects falling off of them. Every game likes to do that for some reason.
Another 50% run speed mount and green pets are not too thrilling. I'll never pay the high upgrade costs, when in comparison they've associated $20 as a fair price for 150,000 refining points.Slow and steady may not win the race but I won't break bank doing it. 2 million diamonds to upgrade the mount is an easy no for me. I can also live with the green pets for now, just save them up for when someone finally decides to reasonably cost things.
On the snowball part, thank you. The mechanic where you get dazed or fall over always annoyed me in other games. a PvP area that did this for fights would have been cool though.
If the cost of transmuting wasn't so commonly expensive (excepting the limited one-time transmutes) I would be more thrilled. I have I believe the Waukeen spear/shield, and I'm about to have my dread Fallen Longsword, so not really interested in other shapes at the moment. Since all the dread legion gear I've gotten doesn't have set bonuses and isn't as good as the base stats on my current gear, Transmuting is the only benefit and I'm not interested in Transmuting at a high cost.
In all, a nice event, but if what i perceive as problems didn't exist, it would be a much better one. Too frequent of an event schedule with an eye on making people spend money way too frequently at high amounts to do something really helps me stay sober about it.
1. I feel the prices for the companion is a bit too high for a green quality, 3200 would make sense to me for a blue or even a purple, but for green quality I feel that 2k would be better.
^THIS!
For a green tier companion, they WAY overpriced the fawn. Usually in these kinds of MMO's, the mounts are the most coveted feature of seasonal events and therefore cost the most. I was pretty shocked to see how the fawn was priced higher than the mount.
And I fully agree that's pretty crazy for a green tier companion. I could see if it was blue or purple, but no way do I feel a greenie should be as costly as a purple...ESPECIALLY...considering how few "Leader" pets there are that are worth a ****. What does Cryptic have against players being able to have decent access to leader companions?!? Angel, Lillend, and Fawn are all not-so-easy to obtain. The basic Cleric and Cleric of Kelemvor which are both very "meh" are really the only choices for the casual player. Disappointing to say the least.

This is exactly why the fawn companion and the mount are way overpriced. The amount of AD's to upgrade them decrease their value and their demand. Until the cost to upgrade pets & mounts comes down to reality then they are just novelty collections. And sadly that's what Cryptic has factored into their pricing I'm willing to bet.
If I'm going to grind the festival for 20 days then I would expect to get at least a blue quality companion or mount. Purple would be more equal for the reward.
Why grind 20 days for a green companion/mount when I can just buy a better blue or purple one off the AH or Zen Market in about 2 minutes worth of work?
They overpriced the festival fawn and mount. Period.

ad 4) the most boring implementation of fishing ever made

Let me amend by saying I liked the fishing in it's incarnation when it launched, this change (or fix whatever you want to call it) made it significantly less fun for me. Oh well, I enjoyed the simplicity of it, specifically because I didn't have to run around or worry about being attacked by things.
1) I would LOVE IT if we could do something that was done in WoW, fishing up big, hard, weapon fish :-D I use to have a rogue (I hardly ever played), a gnome that wielded two fish. Never won in PvP, but it was hilarious slapping orcs around with dead fish.
2) Not liking the look of building up those shields and light globes after getting the profession up without any further use of them. Would not mind at all turning them in for more Lights of Simril. Would make buying fawns for each of my major characters easier.
3) Would love it if we could keep fishing going somewhere else (someone else mentioned this). Maybe even sea fishing with the possibility of accidentally fishing up a large, monstrous squid or something like that to fight. Bottom line: Fishing = good.
4) Right now I'm concentrating on only one character and hope to get him a fawn before Christmas. Maybe. But I don't have all day to pack in to build up those Lights of Simril. And while I do the daily with each of my characters, I don't waste time waiting around for each of the events to pass so they can all get the shields and globes for the profession. There appears to be some real thought behind making it hard for people with multiple characters to get some of these prizes. Or is it just my imagination? Might want to think about that with regards to the dailies at the very least and also give more Lights for the dailies than just 7.
Fishing on ice is a joke as it's so unfair between the various classes. It's all about the kill(steal) and ranged classes, especially with AoE have such an advantage. Me being a defense/taunt specced Guardian fighter can't finish 'em off fast enough before a archer get's them =(
... really annoying

Agreed. Many people last night enjoyed it. Nice break from the fights.
1. Nice zone. feels far less 'walled in' than others, and it's nice to look at, too.
2. The Race - I like it. It really forces you to plan ahead if you're going to maximize points.
3. Fishing (post-patch) - It's a nice way to kill some time. Count me in as someone who would like to see fishing holes added to instances, or appear as 'skill kits' out in the wild. Just let us keep the fishing pole. :-D
4. Monsters on Ice - fun, but definitely favors the ranged / aoe classes. The physics makes setting up mobs a bit more difficult.
5. Rewards - MIMIC PET!!! Yeah, the price is high, but they're not being paid for with Zen, they're being paid for with time. Based on what I could grind out yesterday, I should be able to get the weapon skins and pet for at least 1 character, which is fine with me.
I'd also like to add that it's nice having (at least) 2 of 3 events be open to any level (and I haven't tried Monsters on Ice with a non-60, so I don't know if it scales).
Two thumbs up. I'm having fun.

There is nothing in this festival that I need. I like the summer event much better, I could grind those events and then buy potions with the Petals etc. That summer festival had some really good potions. I dont like having to use a profession to try and get a potion here and the potion is pretty bad.

This event is much grindier than the Midsummer Festival.
I went to the wiki to refresh my memory, and the 2 dailies equivalent to the ones in the winter event flat-out gave you 155 fireblossom petals - plus a minimum of another 30 from gathering 12 flowers. So 185/day without sticking around for a single contest.
The Winter Event dailies only give you 7 Lights of Simril!
This means you are pretty much required to stick around for the end of the contests, and you'd better do well. My poorly geared GF had trouble chasing Monsters on Ice down before ranged heroes killed them, so she ended the MoI contest with only 15 lights.
That leaves only fishing, and to do well there you need to grind out the better fishing pole and lures, which means you have to participate in the contests to the end to get the emblems..... way grindier. Add to that the fact that the fawn costs over 1000 more tokens than the pig in the Midsummer Festival, and I'm getting pretty frustrated looking at trying to get the pet for more than one character.
tldr: give more Lights as rewards for the dailies, or this event will be a miserable grind, and poorly compared to the Midsummer Festival.

Also, if they insist on adding skeletons then add some really rare prizes, like a rare mount or companion. really need to work on their difficulty to price ratio. It appears as if they are too concerned with short term gains and are not thinking long term. (Valve seems to do just fine without making everything way overpriced.) They made the gem system work much better, and found a use for using gold again. If perfectworld really wants to make a lasting impression, they should really consider adjusting there price points for everything, otherwise they risk falling into the same trap that blizzard and more recently McDonalds (Chicken wing stupidity)and make good items more attainable more people would by zen if zen prices had more value.) worth it. There is not a very good midground in neverwinter either fairly cheap or way overpriced. It's unfortunate because they are really close on somethings.
Also it would be nice if they rewarded players that helped each other out with awesome epic items and discouraged the greedy/rude players with HAMSTER items. Now that would make the game truly exceptional. And guarantied to get more people to play. Think about it, they would make way more money over a longer period if they did these relatively simple things. What makes more money a few hundred people paying a couple of hundred dollars or fifty thousand spend 2-5 dollars? Do not get me wrong having nice things to work your way up to is awesome (Like the two hundred dollar pack though for the money they should get a bit more value for it. But it would make sense to include some decent more affordable items for more causal players and it would give them incentive to play longer enjoy more and eventually spend more.
These two things could make the game really something. Reward good players and discourage bad players and make things affordable for a broad spectrum of players.
I'll preface this by saying that I very much enjoy the Ice Fishing and Twilight Run activities. I find them fun independent of the contests. The Omens of the Stars quest is also much better than a standard "get a reward for logging-in" daily. However, I dislike the structure of Simril Lightcrafting for a few reasons.
First, ranking up is gated by the Monsters on Ice contest (which only occurs every 45 minutes) or by getting lucky drops in Sword Coast Adventures. The Winterkill Emblems are bound, so I can't even trade for them from someone who has too many, and there will be players with too many because the emblems appear to have no use apart from gating Lightcrafting. The same criticisms apply to Rings of Light, but that gate occurs after the emblem gate.
Second, when I do eventually rank up, the craftables are all fishing buffs (with Faintly Glowing Citrines and Lightwine the exceptions). Midsummer Provisioning was both easier to rank up and had better craftables.
PS I have been doing the Twilight Run on foot with low-level characters and the fourth rally gate needs a shorter timer.
The Winter Fest is really another example of where this game shines: something totally new and utterly fantastic. It is ironic to say but the zone its self is just so "chill" and happy. It is a really nice contrast to the sometimes really dark content you find in many other areas (the linkletter storyline, the whole chasm which is so tragic). Would love if the zone could stay past 20 days, even in some altered form, but I am sure it cannot. Fishing with friends, sliding around like an idiot on the ice with monsters sliding around like idiots everyone attacking each other, the uber-addictive twilight run, dancing on the stage with the dwarves...just the general great vibe of the place. Thanks for making it and it is really obvious the amount of actual care and creativity went into it from the skins to the music to the gameplay of the events themselves. Nice job!
I too think this is a very good event on the whole. Yes we need Snowballs. Love the water balloons, Need Snowballs!!! As for the surface town of Twilit Tor, I want it as a Demesne of my own. Would make for a great Town for ones Guild of for your own. Hmmm.
This event is much grindier than the Midsummer Festival.

+1 It does feel like a grindy chore if you'd like a fawn.
The modification of the fishing event is pretty annoying, too often the hole "expires" after fishing one time out of it.
And 7 lights from dailies is a joke.

I wanted both the fawn and the mimic, wanted the sled too but have to chose between the mimic and the mount, and a "green" mount that go 50%....not. The fawn its way too expensive for a green quality companion, 3,200 and the amount of lights you get per day its way little. Remember there are ppl that have multiple characters and probably dont want the companions to sell but to use them. Anyways, i think they can keep the fawn, not worth the exaggerate grinding, now, if they lower the price or raise the amount of lights of simril then MAYBE, might go for it, so that means, back to dread spire and only come back to the festival to get the star.

It's even better than the Summer Festival... except for one thing. Please make it so the scarfs don't clip with the armors.
I hate dancing with Lady Luck. She always steps on my toes.
Nope I hate it ... hate it, hat .. ha ... OK, OK it's cool ... except ...
I logged in again this morning to invoke my toons, realized I'd left one of them in Winter Festival ... I'm not going fishing ... I'm not going fishing ... I'm no ... Ill just fish for a few minutes ... Ah, d**m it not again ...
But I agree about the Fawn ... My Absolutely Sue-Per tough and Sue-Per rugged Hunter Ranger ... She who fears no man, manifestation or beast, just went all gooey inside when she saw the Fawn ... Bouncing up and down saying, Can I have one? ... Can I have one? ... Now normally I'd give in to her ... But not at that price! She can make do with her puppy dog and kitty cat (Dire Wolf and Panther)
I have to revise my (extremely positive) statements about this event. Get rid of it. It is NOT worth having to wait out the server down time AND the patch dl time EVERY SINGLE NIGHT SINCE THE EVENT STARTED. The fishing is so bugged? Get rid of it. Yes some people will be mad but they likely will go and do something else in NWO. Keep EVERYONE off the 'shard' for a good few hours every night and those are people who are not buying stuff in the zen shop in that time frame. I was personally ready to drop some money for a new mount, some dye, some ad...but no way now. Maybe I'm the only one who refuses to buy zen when the shard is down. And that 20-50 dollars burning a hole in my cc will most definitely be spent somewhere else by the time the shard is back online and I have the patch dl'd. I am not qq'ing...I just don't see how this is at all a stable long-term business model and as a consumer who regularly puts money into this game that is a little disturbing to me.

For some perspective there are mmo's that do nightly maint. I think if I actually name the one that I know does that it violates forum rules, but they do exist. Down time sucks, but if it fixes exploits and makes the game better, it's probably worth it.

A Snowball fight themed PvP map would have been welcome , used to LOVE Guild Wars Christmas and Halloween PvP events.
That's why I liked it so much, very relaxing compared to the current incarnation.
+1 It does feel like a grindy chore if you'd like a fawn.
The modification of the fishing event is pretty annoying, too often the hole "expires" after fishing one time out of it.
And 7 lights from dailies is a joke.
