First I have to say: YAY, I was right. I guessed Pina Colada and Orange-Something. HAH.
And, sorry, but Vegas is not my town. If I never hear another slot machine it will be too soon. I even turned down the volume when I went into the Casino in City of Heroes. I spent a week in vegas, and got my total fill of slot machine "doooledeeedooo dleeedeedooo deooodooodoo" - Seriously never want to hear that sound again.
I can handle the heat (Hello, born and raised in Florida), but the dryness is not for me. And the fact that it's a BIG CITY is also a turn off; New York falls in much the same category. The older I get, the farther from people I want to live; by the time I'm 50 I will want to live on the moon. I am not a big city person, and CERTAINLY not in the dry climate that is Vegas.
Nothing against people who love Vegas, it's just not my scene.
Las Vegas isn't my place either. If you break even in Vegas you've won, so I say. But my wife wanted to go there and we concentrated more on the sights than the gaming. We had fun at the CSI thing and tried to get tickets for Cirque du Soleil (we couldn't) and so we walked through Caesar's Palace and did a lot of window shopping through the stores between hotels and ate at as many buffets as we could (then complained that we ate too much). I suppose it was a better experience since we didn't gamble a lot. I won pretty well on the Superman game, then lost it back into the machine (just the way they planned it). I bought a sweet dragon t-shirt at this place only to find it was way too tight, despite being labeled as 2xl :-\
God, look how "thin" I was just a few months ago. These days you can totally see my man-<font color="orange">HAMSTER</font> under that shirt. I really need to get back to losing weight...ooh! A cheeseburger!! *om-nom-nom*

When I gamble, it is *only* on Royal Caribbean cruises and I give myself $50 to lose on the roulette wheel. I owned a wheel and some felt for a while. Maybe I like the fact that it's "totally random" and doesn't take skill! :P (Ended up selling my felt and wheel for a STEAL, $200 for the whole Professional-Grade rig... but then, I bought it while I was married, and with my ex gone, I had no one to play roulette with.)
Love those tall drinks they have in Vegas. I always get them when I walk with visiting family. Since my tolerance is so high I have to ask for extra shots. ( I can drink my dad under the table and he is like 10 times my size. O.o ) Vegas is a place to visit, not a place to live. It has a lot to offere actually, you just need to know where to go. One thing I like is locals always get discounts. If people find out your a visitor they will charge you more on purpose. ( which is usually why prices are not listed. ) Though, you usually need a NV ID to prove your not a visitor.
Gambling is just crzy in my opinion, but people love it. You can gamble smart though. I sometimes go downtown to gamble for free drinks. I can put 20-30 in the machine and drink for free for a couple hours. Sometimes I win, sometimes I lose.
Rick if you come to Vegas again, try focusong on Old Vegas and if you like to hike go to Red Rock or Bonnie Springs. Grand Canyon is pretty amazing as well.

Awww Vegas isnt so bad. The weather is nice here for the most part. (for a desert that is) All the locals here know that the casinos (especially on the Strip) are a tourist trap. Tho I totally agree with you about Red Rock..gorgeous place with tons of awesome trails!

No offense intended for those who come from those places, I fully recognize these are great cities, I just failed to meet the right people or go to the right places when I visited!
I'm pretty sure I'd love Tokyo, but I haven't been yet. I haven't been to Rio yet either (although I hope to go in 2014 for World Cup).

It was sorta unfair, the 1991 photo was taken after a 7 month stint as a DJ in Nassau, so I was well-tanned, while the 2012 photo is Labor Day after I not only wasn't tanned, but had a lot to drink at a loud dark concert the night before. Still, yeah, old age can ravage you.

As for Vegas... we DID get to see Rita Rudner. I loves her so much. We also had tickets to see Ronn Lucas but the show got cancelled. Sadface. I really like Ronn Lucas. :]
My favorite location so far outside of FL is Jamaica. (The Touristy part of Jamaica of course.)
Also: I need to get the "Then and Now" photos from my parents albums at Fort Clinch!!! My parents have a photo of me at age 4, and then again at ... age 15 or so. Same spot. :]

Nice to see so many folks getting into the spirit here.
In no particular order.
Vegas, Been there a couple times, saw some great shows. Dropped a few bucks.
As for cities, I think I've been to just about every major one in the U.S. and western Europe, plus a few out in the middle east and a couple south of the equator and a couple in Canada. Never been mugged in any of them and only had my pocket picked once, in Naples (Italy).
Malta, Barcelona and Toledo are towards the top of my list of places I'd like to go again, might even retire there (although retirement is more likely to be somewhere like Panama or Belize for the tax breaks. Sorry Obama, you already took a big chunk of change out of my pocket, no need to hit me a second and third time on retirement income).

My familiar, helping me with my 'work from home' stuff. Except he got as far as the sunlight and collapsed. Those are the ERD's (if you have to ask, you wouldn't understand) for some of the databases I designed.

An older pic, my collection has grown a little since then.
Notable ones. Second from the top (the one with the red ribbon). Toledo broadsword, hand forged in Toledo and yes, I bought it in Toledo. Below that a hand-forged Spanish rapier (and yes, it does pass the test of bending it into a 90 degree angle they did back then). Below that, two more hand-forged Japanese blades. One is an iai-to custom made for me by a smith in Gifu prefecture. The other is a Paul Chen 'Practical Katana' which I use for Tameshigiri. (you can see the cast iron stand used to hold some of the rolled up tatami mats and the rolled up mats themselves in some of my pics). Two below that is a replica viking sword, also hand-forged.
I've studied Japanese sword for a long time,taught it for ten years. These days I'm slacking in my practice but still spend a few hours a week practicing iai and battojutsu.
Spend a few years in the SCA as well. Heavy combat and archery.
last, Geek with coffee, bonus point if you recognize the molecular diagram.

Love the rapier style blades. Quite the arsenal you got there! I learned the Bo staff form and Butterfly Knives but never really had any talents for it. Only weapon i had some decent skill in was the Tai-Chi straight sword.

Awesome stuff! I love me a good database diagram, even better when the design is tight and disciplined.
I'm an egalitarian and an ardent believer in freedom, UNTIL it comes time to design a tight database, at which point the inner fascist in me comes out!
A well-designed database is one of life's great things, and the closest I've ever come to making "art". Albeit, rigidly aligned, strictly enforced and beautifully categorized and referential art.
