The Beta Anxiety Thread! (Read OP for Beta Info!)

This thread will serve as a reminder and vent thread about the upcoming Closed Beta Testing for Neverwinter. If you are looking for the original Anxiety Thread, it has been closed as it has grown quite large. You may find it here however.

Feel free to vent, as long as it is not vulgar or otherwise rule-violating, your anticipations and frustrations for the upcoming Beta Testing Periods.

Please be advised:
Posting Unreleased Content is Forbidden per the Rules!
You may not create posts and/or private messages that contain language, comments, references, links, symbols, terms and/or content that, in any manner whether directly or indirectly, show/display and/or discuss any of the following: (a) unreleased in-game items or equipment; (b) areas that have been unlocked by hacking into client data files; and/or (c) data not available through normal game play. Do not post trademarked and/or copyrighted materials (e.g., articles, videos, photos, audio, etc.) that you do not have permission to reproduce, distribute, display, perform, create derivative works of and/or otherwise use. Posting the entire article, even with the source, constitutes copyright infringement. This is not the place to illegally trade or distribute copyrighted (or those with questionable copyright status) video or audio clips. Closed Beta Weekend Dates have been announced:
  • February 8th through 10th
  • March 8th through 10th
  • March 22nd through 24th

A Warning About Fraudulent/Phishing Sites:
  • There are sites (web pages really) out there that are claiming to "give away" beta keys.
  • These are not the reputable MMO News & Community sites.
  • Do not be fooled into their scams and do not download anything from them.
  • The safety of your personal information and/or computer may be put at risk if you do!

Here are the current facts about Beta and CBT Keys:(All statements hold validity at time of this post's "edit timestamp" on the bottom of this post and are relevant to the North American release of Neverwinter by Perfect World Entertainment.)
  • There are a couple active Promotions that grant CBT Access/Keys. There are no current Official CBT Giveaways - However, CM PinPointError has announced a giveaway here on the forums for some Alpha Testing Keys, slated to be chosen on Jan 16th 2013. (this is now over)
    • Closed Beta has not yet begun. However, Closed Beta Weekend Dates have been announced. (see above for details)
    • Lifetime Subscriptions for Champions Online and Star Trek Online will grant you a "phased" access to Closed Beta Tests once they begin.
    • The PC Gamer Magazine, January 8th issue contains a code for one of two random mounts. This key will also grant beta access for the upcoming Beta. More official information will be released soon*.
  • Registering for a Perfect World Entertainment account puts you into a pool for a random chance at getting CBT access, when CBT begins.
  • RaiderZ Founders' Promotion has ended. The CBT Keys will be sent or access granted to your account when CBT Begins. No Keys have yet been sent out for this promotion.
  • Torchlight 2 PWE Pre-order has ended. The CBT Keys for this promotion have already been sent. If you did not get your key, you may have ordered through Steam (see next bullet listing) but if you did order it through the PWE Official Web Site and did not get your key, please file a support ticket with Billing (a link is uptop every web-page in this site).
    • (T2 Pre-order through Steam did not grant CBT keys, it granted a free copy of Torchlight 1).
  • The Neverwinter Spooky Adventure Contest has ended. Congrats Winners!
  • MMOBomb.com gave away 10 keys in their Doomsday Holiday Giveaway. It is over but you can check it out here. Congrats Winners!
  • Overseas Giveaways: See Facebook pages for France and Germany or their official websites (France, Germany, China) for their respective localized Giveaways.)

    Thanks for all the latest info regarding beta keys! I hope you update your post often with any new news. I have been checking my mail and the web for news of the beta release at least every other day :(. I need to sink my teeth into this game badly. I want to start testing and learning the Foundry as soon as possible!

    Its hard to believe that this was first announced two years ago. I'm glad that they decided to hold off and make it a much richer experience but it seems like it has been forever and a day :)

    Looking forward to seeing the world come to life when the gates to the city finally open up to me, whenever that may be.

    In my opinion, here's the real rub, knowing Beta is live,and NOT having access yet, will only create more anxiety. It would be better ifwe (I) did not know about Beta until I get my authorization to play it. Justknowing folks are playing it, in Beta, but can't say anything because of NDA'swill be so excruciating, tortuous even,....... sigh. And my gut feelings rightnow tell me that CB is very close. Course, being a Half-Orc, one has to be carefulof one's "gut feelings". A Half-Orcs gut feelings can sometimes leadto clearing a room, or even an entire battlefield, a few minutes later.

    I cannot say for certain in NWO's case, but generally when a game enters Beta, their NDA is lifted.

    Closed Beta has truly not started yet. It wont start before a major announcement. There are other development cycles that come before CB. Now whether the game is still in pre-alpha or has advanced to alpha phase is what most of us do not know. Those who are in it cant talk. That's standard with just about any mmo game.

    If we aren't going to have beta any time soon, which looks like the case more and more, I would at least like them to give any information that I can't get in the PnP manuals. Also, videos like how well it went in France are pointless. Give us information or beta damnit! See you later, I have to catch my whaaaambulace.

    Yep, I can most assuredly state that NWO is not in Beta yet. Anyone who says it is, either has been misinformed or is intentionally spreading lies. Rest assured, from the sheer number of potential Closed Beta Participants, when CBT begins, it will be public knowledge. There have been a great number of CBT keys given out and/or a great number of people are eligible to get CBT keys.

    That is not the case, especially when Open Beta comes around. Generally, Beta is meant as a test phase to test how the game will function come launch and what is needed to be changed before launch. With that in mind, MMOs generally want as many people playing through out the Beta Phases as possible, especially in Open Beta and the Stress Tests. Closed Beta is the phase that is generally hit or miss.

    I do have to say though, over my years of watching MMO's grow from the ground up back in 1996/1997, Beta Phases have become more and more publicly well known. It used to be, most people didn't even hear about a game until it either entered Open Beta or was Released. Now, it's "common" knowledge for gamers to jump in and try and get into Beta. This has gotten to the point where it is expected to be able to play a game prior to its release by the public masses, which is both good and bad. Good that there are more testers now-a-days, bad that it gives players a sense of entitlement that they automatically expect to play a game prior to its release and if they do not, "Shame on the Company." The latter is sad really.

    Rest assured the game is going to be free to download and free to play, so even if one doesn't get into Closed Beta and somehow misses being able to get into Open Beta, they will still get to play the game for free when it is released.

    Regardless, I am like many, I really want to play Beta also and can hardly wait. The only thing that keeps me content is that I have waited so long already for a Forgotten Realms MMO, I could happily wait another year (unless the world ends in 11 days).

    I have been waiting for a lot longer than my account gives me credit for. I think I started paying attention to the game just before they announced that they were changing the format and redoing most of the game. Think it might be about 10 months now. Not as long as a lot of people, I know; but it still feels like forever.

    I think like a lot of people here, we've been waiting for something like this since NWN2. When D&D Online came out we had hopes, but were disappointed that it was so far removed from the actual PnP game.

    I think this is where most of the frustration of no beta and lack of news in general comes from. We have such high hopes for this game, that we just can't wait for it. While this kills me every day that there isn't beta, it is a good thing that we believe that it could be something great and worth the wait.

    That being said... Give me my beta ;)

    Depends who developed that game.. err.. date. If Cryptic did, expect the world to end sometime in... Early 2013! ;)

    What i want to know since there is no beta, is how broad the customization is. I want to know how many spells i can choose from as a caster. Stuff like that. :(

    I can say they have mentioned it's in Alpha a couple of times publicly and Beta has most definitely not started yet, so every person involved is under NDA and can't release specifics without Cryptic's permission.

    well i bought the raiderz founders package specifically to get beta access (since i have no interest in raiderz) and i have not heard anything yet... i really hope the closed beta starts within the next few days since this is one of the reasons why i took time off over christmas...but im loosing hope really...i also think a release in q1 2013 becomes more and more unrealistic if not even the closed beta has started yet

    well 2q 2013 could be still realistic if close beta starts january...i think you need at least 3m close beta and minimum 1month open beta

    well hopefully df uw is FINALLY getting out on 17th...at least i can play that - and MAYBE even turn my back on neverwinter - thats what you get perfect world for letting players down! (not that i'd do that or that anyone cares but i feel i have to make a statement)
