NW_Legit_Community Channel Info & Discussion

bioshrikebioshrike Member, NW M9 Playtest Posts: 4,729 Arc User
Dear members of the Neverwinter Community: (Post updated 2/22/2015)
UNLESS OTHERWISE SPECIFIED, THE CURRENT CHANNEL RULES ARE THOSE ON OUR SHIVTR SITE: http://tinyurl.com/osrt9lc

We have some exciting news regarding the NW_Legit_Community custom chat channel! After collecting player feedback, as well as observations from myself and fellow channel moderators, we are going to be making some big changes to the channel. Our hope is that these changes lead to a more tightly-knit community, while also serving to better maintain a pleasant and supportive environment for all channel members.

Before I get into the specific details of this new implementation, let me first introduce Damnacious, (@damnacious in-game). He stepped up early on to assist with moderating the channel, and has since gone above and beyond that simple directive. While I shall retain overall ownership of NW_Legit_Community, Damnacious will now be the primary person in change of its operation.

We now also have our own website and forums, and I encourage everyone who is interested in the channel to visit the below link for more info: http://www.nwlegitcommunity.shivtr.com/users/sign_up

Now, to the nitty-gritty:

1. NW_Legit_Community will be going private. As before, everyone is welcome to join, but by making the channel private, we have a lot more control over how issues within the channel are handled. As some of you may have seen, a problem member can be kicked from an open channel, but immediately rejoin. This change rectifies that situation. It also means that we won't have to employ the mute function, as it likewise has unintended side effects - like sometimes muting the wrong person.

2. The channel rules have been updated: http://nwlegitcommunity.shivtr.com/f...hreads/2012389

3. As I previously mentioned, we have our own forums now, (forum rules below): http://nwlegitcommunity.shivtr.com/f...hreads/2028754

You will be required to apply for a free account at shivtr.com, then send a request to join nw_legit_community, as the channel has been made private. Again, I want to stress that the channel shall remain open to everyone, and that these changes are being made to help us maintain a friendly and constructive atmosphere in the channel. There is a feedback section on those forums, so you may provide your input on these changes there as well.

Thank you all for your continued support, and here to many great things to come!

Original post from 10/2013 is below...

Hey fellow players! In response to some recent threads and previously started chat channels, I have created a new chat channel for all players who wish to be able to run dungeons, skirmishes, and other events, without using cheats or exploits. This channel is open to all, and is called NW_Legit_Community. You can easily join this channel by typing /channel_join nw_legit_community

A convenient bind to allow easy typing into the channel is:

/bind numpad7 "startchatwith /c nw_legit_community "

Then you only need press 7 on the numpad, type what you want to say, then press enter, to type into NW_Legit_Community.

Happy hunting!

Due to the channel's continued growth, I thought it was appropriate to lay out some basic rules of conduct. Below are the current guidelines. If you have any feedback to provide, please reply in this thread. Thank you for your time and continued support!

    NW_Legit_Community
    Basic Rules of Conduct
    ***Version 1.2***

    1. Keep discussions in the channel relevant to the game - no discussions of politics, religion,
or other unrelated topics, (race, ethnicity, sexual preference, etc). *UPDATE* Conversations of other topics will be tolerated as long as they do not overshadow or interfere with game-related ones.

    2. Keep chat at a PG-level. *UPDATE* Players who do not wish to see profanity should make use of the profanity filter - I would prefer that players keep things toned down regarding vulgar language, but I can understand if it is used sparingly. Attempts to circumvent the profanity filter will not be tolerated, however - if you are going to curse, at least spell it correctly so the filter blocks it for people that don't want to see it.

    3. Be patient with other players - we have people of all different skill levels, across many
different languages and age-ranges. If someone isn't understanding something or has questions,
please be considerate of their position, and either refrain from negative comments or offer
constructive advice. *UPDATE* No "naming and shaming" of other players is permitted in the channel - if there is an issue with a particular player, please contact a GM.

    4. No spamming - no advertising of real money transfers or the sale of any other goods or
services, (in-game or otherwise). When looking for a team or trying to recruit others to your
team, please don't flood the channel with those requests.

    5. No Pay to Win / P2W discussions - Please keep all debates about the game being pay to win, pay for power, or other similar topics out of channel discussions.

    Other channel notes:

~ There is no official loot policy for NW_Legit_Community - Please discuss terms with your team and adhere to whatever is decided.
~ I would prefer not to see any sort of class or gearscore elitism in-channel. If you are forming a team, you are of course free to choose whomever you like, but at the very least, please keep these kinds of exclusionary topics to a minimum.

    All,

I just wanted to reach out to the community; With Module 4 on the horizon, I thought I'd put it out there that I think it's time we got some more operators on the channel. To-date, there's been a committed group of tight-knit and caring folks who have helped keep order on the channel, and I am deeply grateful for their contributions, but I think we need more coverage.

If you think you are the kind of caring and patient person who is willing to step in and help maintain a fun, friendly atmosphere that fosters legitimate and cooperative play, then please send me a private message of about 100 words, explaining why you feel you'd make a good candidate for the job. Please be sure to include your time zone and typical hours of play. While I don't judge a person's capabilities on number of hours per week they play, I would prefer people who are on several times a week, vs only playing once a week, for instance. I'd also like to know you have at least one character that can get to each zone, (including IWD, Dread Ring & Feywild).

Once more, I thank everyone who contributes to NW_Legit_Community in a positive way! Congrats, Legits!

I would like to hold some "Legit Community Events" in the future, so if anyone has any ideas, please share them in this thread.

One last note - this position can potentially impact many players, so I ask that you take your application seriously, and be aware that any abuse of power, should you be accepted, will not be tolerated.

Updated notice for Tiamat Timer grouping in the NW_Legit_Community Channel, as posted by Damnacious on our Channel's Website:
First of all, let me apologize for the extended delay in bringing a decision to you regarding the discussed ‘set’ times for entering Tiamat as a member of the Legit Community. The discussions we have had as a Moderation Team have not yielded a clear unanimous solution to the issue and it has been the primary reason for the delay.

Secondly, as Moderators, we do not believe in setting unnecessary and / or unreasonable requirements that ‘dictate’ how Members should play and group for content. There is a very fine line involved in this issue where taking too much action will result in negatively affecting the right of Members to play how and when they see fit as opposed to not taking enough action to protect the rights of Members to do the same.

Thirdly, it has been our intent to simplify the process of the Legit Community when co-coordinating queue times for Tiamat and to remove as much of the unnecessary chat occurring in channel that negatively affects the rights of others to use the channel for other purposes. At no time are we requiring Members to enter at a specific time and we encourage Members to enter at any time that they see fit.

    WHAT HAS BEEN DECIDED?
Bearing in mind that no-one can 'own' a 'time' for Tiamat, we have decided to recommend two proposed times for Members to enter collectively if they choose to do so, please see our forums or as in channel for the new times. The first time has been recommended purely to allow for Members that experience difficulty with load times. If a Member experiences increased load times, it is suggested that they enter before these times in order to compensate for the delay.

    Please take note:
    • Players should feel free to enter at any time they see fit.
    • No-one can 'own' a 'time' for Tiamat.
    • Members may post in channel they intend on entering Tiamat at a specific time other than that recommended, yet posts should be no more frequent than once every two minutes to avoid spamming.
    • Tiamat times other than the recommended should only be organized or posted in channel in a reasonable manner that does not negatively affect any other purpose of the channel.
    • When forming parties for a Tiamat instance, please use "/say" or some alternative method in your instance to notify others that you wish to form/join a party. If you are experiencing difficulties finding or forming a party by first using this method, you may post in channel that you are LFM/LFG with your instance number. However, please do not post more frequently than once every two minutes. It is expected that by posting in channel you have exhausted all other methods of grouping.
    • Please restrict Tiamat discussions in channel to those that are constructive and game relevant. Posts relating to the status of your instance or criticisms of other players should be taken out of the channel.

WHY IS THERE A NEED TO DO ANYTHING AT ALL REGARDING TIAMAT & ITS EFFECTS IN CHANNEL?
As members of the Legit Community, it has been fantastic to perceive that we desire the opportunity to work together to overcome challenges. Working together in this Community is something that we, as Moderators and Members of the channel, would like to encourage wherever possible and reasonable. However, the past usage of the channel regarding Tiamat has led to a major disruption in the channel which has had significant negative effects on the capacity of Members to use the channel for anything other than Tiamat. This isn’t fair, it’s not considerate and it’s a concern that, by necessity, needed to be addressed and resolved in some reasonable manner.

What has been evident by the feedback of many Members and Moderators is that the prior system where an entering time was discussed (often extensively and repeatedly) in channel and where Members posted what instance they were in to facilitate partying, was not an efficient use of the channel that bore consideration for other Members of the Legit Community who did not participate in Tiamat during those times.

    What we observed was that:
    • During the 20-30 minutes prior to Tiamat, there was often continued and extensive discussion on what times the Legit Community should enter, Members asking what time was decided to enter, answers for times and general discussion continuing about Tiamat from the last encounter.
    • During the Tiamat queue time for approximately one minute, there would be a fast and steady stream of Members posting in channel what instance they were in.
    • During the 15 – 20 minutes or so of Tiamat, there would often be, at most, a predominance of chat in channel regarding the status of an instance and expressions relating to players in instances and whether they should be there and their capability in playing as ‘expected.’
    • After Tiamat, the process would repeat itself with the channel once again discussing the next time, general Tiamat discussion including tactics and the ‘experiences’ in their instance(s).

What this highlighted was simply that the <10% of the Community online at the time who was obviously using the channel to co-ordinate and/or discuss Tiamat were doing so in a manner where a minimum of 35 minutes out of every hour saw the channel used almost exclusively for Tiamat. This meant that, during some periods, other functions of the channel were severely restricted or obscured.

This decision is, of course, designed to improve the capacity for the Community to enter Tiamat together as much as is reasonably possible while reducing any negative impacts upon the channel every hour.

As a result, please consider this system and decision to be a 'work in progress.' The times that have been proposed and other information may need to be changed or altered at some later date to take advantage of any new information that may improve the process. Additionally, with the release of Mod6, other changes may be necessary including removing this entirely.

Please feel free to provide any constructive feedback relating to this decision, especially on ways to improve it.

I hope this proves to be a 'workable' solution for the Legit Community, which facilitates the easy use and accessibility of the channel by all Members.

Good luck in Tiamat and may you all slay Her many heads with simple ease!

    Thank you for your time!

As a suggestion in these first few posts, the method that I forget or I would do it, should be walked thru to identify and find a channel admin.

Some additional notes on the channel rules, (reposted from an earlier point):

    6. Of course, the whole motivation for creating the channel was to provide a haven for those that don't want to cheat/exploit, and don't want to team with those that cheat or exploit, either. As such, please do not discuss or promote the details or use of any cheat or exploit. *UPDATE* PWE/Cryptic reserves the right to define what a cheat or exploit actually is - the examples provided below don't cover all instances, so please use your best judgement when playing.

So what is a cheat/exploit? Since it covers so many possible activities or behaviors, I shall limit the discussion to those that specifically affect dungeons. I break them down into 2 categories:

    A. Map cheats - using unintended holes or glitches/flaws in the terrain to skip content and/or gain an unintended advantage over the enemies. This can also include utilizing game mechanics in a way that wasn't intended - like campfire suicide runs. Generally, though, this means things like finding a hole that lets you pass through a barrier and so on.

    B. Enemy AI cheats - this is where you exploit a flaw or limitation in the enemy AI to gain an advantage. I'm not talking about simply taunting or luring enemies away - I'm referring to situations where you can get an enemy to be unable to attack you, while you are at no risk whatsoever, or other such behaviors.

The above is in no way exhaustive, and I prefer that conversations in the channel stick to the "spirit" of the rules, rather than their literal word.

It has been brought to my attention that there is some disagreement regarding which loot methods should or should not be used when teaming through the NW_Legit_Community chat channel. First and foremost, I want to reiterate that there is no official loot mode for the channel. That being said, I urge those forming or joining a team to discuss their preferences and what need/want they have for specific gear that may drop from a given dungeon. Please don't feel that those in the channel will never help you gear up, but I can't reiterate how important it is to express your position or needs on the matter up front. Talk to your teammates about what you're looking for from a dungeon run, and come to some sort of agreement - maybe offer a trade of gear drops or some other deal.

Some general notes on common loot modes:

Greed / Greed All: You must either choose greed or pass on all items.

Need / Need All: Expect everyone to choose "need" on any items that they can. If you want an item, choose need. Otherwise, you might as well pass.

Need if you can use it: Based heavily on the honor system - you may choose "need" on an item if an item is something you can use and is an improvement over what you already have.

Please feel free to contribute to this discussion if you have something constructive to add. Thanks again for your time.

However if anybody sees I am online (normally in the middle of the night for most players) and you guys saw something which you think was not addressed feel free to send me a PM and let me know. I am not always watching but I am always willing to look into any situation or have an open ear to a complaint.

I would like to run a Legit event of some sort, (I can provide some prizes), during a time when there's not a lot of other events going on. If anyone has any ideas as to what sort of event to run, please feel free to chime in.

A few ideas I have thus far:

    1. Costume contest (armor, fashion, or both).

    2. Screenshot contest.

    3. Literary contest of some sort, (joke, poem, limerick, etc).

I like the screenshots idea, I've seen a few that are far more than worthy of....I don't know how to say it in English but like print them and put them in a frame, I don't know if you understand. But anyways, some are really really really good. And honestly with how things goes in the game sometimes, jokes one (related to the game would be better) would be really nice.

I've always wondered how split runs work. Since you cannot trade ad, how exactly does the person who sells things give you your share of the ad?

Either the people who do not sell the item sell junk items for a large value to the person who sells the item or the person who sells the item buys items the other people want at roughly the value of the split AD.

I love the idea of a Legit event and I am happy with any / all of these ideas so far!

Since we have a really large community now, i'd love to get everyone together in a zone (if possible) and grab some pictures of us all as a community too. (It should look awesome as a desktop/screensaver picture!)

I'm also happy to donate something small as a prize too for an event (I was originally going to offer a blue skele dog but Akro sort of made that gesture redundant :( ) but i'm sure i can work out an alternative.

Split runs worked far better a year ago when tons of guilds and players were farming CN endlessly.

Basically, someone becomes the banker. He needs on the final loot while everyone passes. He keeps tabs on who came to the run and how much the item sold for. He keeps tons and tons of records of this.

When a player wants to cash out, they simply tell the banker and the banker can either buy items and give it to the player or the player could post a healing potion for say 12,000,000 if that is the amount owed.

I've personally had a 20,000,000 payout because I ran with a particular group for quite a bit and didn't need the ad for a while. I also ran CN heavily when PVE was actually rewarding so that 20mil wasn't THAT time consuming as new players would like to imagine.

I would like to address a few concerns people have brought up recently:

    1. If you look at my signature, you'll see a tinyurl link to the channel rules. I use the link shortening service because there is a pretty strict limitation on how long a signature can be, and it is somewhat difficult to copy-paste information in-game, (the rules link is also in the channel details/MotD).

    2. While the nw_legit_community is open to all, it is a private channel - if you do not agree to the rules outlined for conduct within the channel, then do not use the channel. I am sorry that it has to be this way, but as the channel has grown, the need for moderation and stricter rules became apparent.

    3. You can go into the channel properties and type in someone's @handle (minus the '@' symbol) to check their access level to the channel - if they are of any rank other than "user", (such as operator, administrator, etc), then they are a channel moderator, and their instructions should be heeded.

    4. Channel moderators make every effort to diffuse a situation before taking action - if you are warned (by a moderator) to cease a line of discussion or end a particular topic, and do not, then do not be surprised to find that you have been muted. If you feel that a moderator has acted inappropriately against you, make sure to grab a copy of the chat that led to your muting/being kicked and send it to me in-game @biostem. Be aware that the moderators similarly take logs of their actions, so be ready to back up your complaint.

To those of you who abide by the rules and help strengthen what has become a great community, I heartily thank you!

New player kicked from legit party due to not knowing the VT final fight , he had admitted it was his first time there and he got kicked , recently the legit channel seems to be getting as bad as LFG and ZONE chat all mixed into one , idiots trying to show off about their 'leet' GS and how many awesome legendary items they have , people calling anybody and everybody who has less experience than them 'scrubs' and hour upon hour of childish idiot chat as bad if not worse than ZONE chat .

I have the @tag of the kicking player if anybody cares.

Neither I, nor any of the channel moderators, have any control over people getting kicked from individual teams; We only moderate behavior within the channel. If you see someone acting up in-channel, please make sure to ask if there are any moderators in, (in case they were playing and didn't notice the offending behavior), and let them review it and take action. For the aforementioned instance, all I can advise is to report them to a GM.
