    1. Install an adblocker for your browser
    2. block this code file: global_redirect.js

This allows you to visit the old game pages directly without being forcibly booted to arc. you can still access the arc website by clicking on the link at the top of the forum page

Thank you so much!!!!!. *sigh* looks like you will want a date now too with my qularr babe?. Let me just call her she was already on one date with someone.

Looked all around My Account-> Games and can't find anything other than ways to buy Zen. If you have a link to the page where subscriptions can be managed it would be great. Can you also post the link to the page on Arc where it's possible to copy characters to PTS?
My Account-> Games(who would have guessed??:rolleyes:)-> if you can't figure it out from there then I really don't understand how you figured out how to use the internet in the first place.

Like I said people, pretty much all of the complaints can be solved by simply taking 5 minutes and checking what stuff does.

From everything I've heard of Arc Games, count me out. If/when their launcher becomes mandatory to play Champions Online I'll be removing the game from my computer.

Just as I was starting to get to the point where I might have started paying for a subscription.

    Way to go, PW!

Oh, and the way I discovered all this? Trying to set up a new account for my GF. New registrations apparantly are only going to be recognized if you use ARC's launcher. ***** that.

Does Arc have it's flaws? Yes but they have stated they are being worked on (it is in beta)
Has the communication/rollout been less than stellar? Yes, changes to the websites and loss of functionality hasnt been handled particularly well. But every new launch has its teething troubles.
Is it the great satan a lot of people seem to want to make it out to be? No
Is it worth quitting a game you enjoy because the launcher or website changes? No

Companies consolidate processes all the time - it saves money (and thus in the long run makes money). It also frees up people who would otherwise be tied up maintaining single systems and makes them available for other things - like development of functionality rather than simple maintenance of old legacy systems.

A lot of the raging seems to be based on others raging rather than first hand experience (tell me thats not a common symptom of MMOs). If that is the case, maybe it is time to take a step back and look at your reasons for ranting against Arc - Read the faq, try it out (atm its not mandatory to even keep it installed on your pc - so you can install it, install the game, get your freebies costumes and hideouts and then uninstall arc and the game will function fine without it)

hhhmmm yeah... I looked at that on the Arc games sites. Oddly enough it said I wasn't playing any of their games, even though I have been registered with Perfect World since 2008 according to them. Still have Perfect World the game along with Champs and Star Trek among others on the computer. Most likely if you aren't logging in via the Arc Launcher the Arc site doesn't recognize a game as activated yet. I'm sure it will all be fixed as soon as they make Arc mandatory for non-Steam users.

I've seen (and made) some legit complaints about how Arc works. Most of the actual "raging" I've seen, though, seems to be based in a borderline-racist conviction that since PWE's parent company is based in China, that therefore this must be some sort of malware spyware virus thingy that will steal your information, destroy your computer, and plant the sign of the Beast on your forehead and right hand. (Ignoring the fact that if PWE were that interested in infecting your computers with spyware or viruses, they could have done that with a standard game update and you'd be none the wiser...)

Yes, it uses some of your system resources. That's to enable certain features that Steam already has, as well as to make it easier for Cryptic/PWE to make sure you're not running some sort of mining bot as part of a goldspamming operation. (Don't see that much, if at all, in CO, but about once every day or two I have to report a goldspammer in STO, usually at ESD.) It doesn't eat enough to interfere with the game performance on most machines; it kills CO for my four-year-old laptop, though. (I do get a severe slowdown for about two minutes or so just after logging in to STO, then it goes away.) And we are assured by STO's community rep, Capt. Smirk, that the Arc programmers are trying to reduce that load. I'll believe it when I see it, of course, but I have to admit that it's a logical thing to do at this point.

Meanwhile, there's still Steam. I'm using Steam to launch STO now, because for some reason the sound failed on my standalone launcher when Season 8 came out; I've tried CO with Steam to make sure it works well enough, so that I'm still covered if I haven't upgraded when the standalones fall, but I prefer using the standalone for now.

yes, I did check what stuff does.

I would assume that subscriptions are under Manage subscriptions NOT buy in-game cash under subscriptions.

and by the way. Under the games>
I have NO subscriptions and am listed as INACTIVE on all 3 games

I can go to the subscriptions screen on the website and see my ACTIVE subscription for CO.

yes I have logged in to the game with ARC.

STO is listed as played for 5hrs, which is odd since I have never done more than 10minutes of the tutorial.

what was that about working well?

yeah, there is no "Manage subscriptions" on the Arc client, you are referring to Manage Billing Information. Frankly none of what you are claiming is true. I honestly believe most of you are just lying about what "problems" you are having simply to gripe about something new. Arc has worked just fine for me and everyone I know. You want to claim that Arc shows you with no active subs yet the website does, screen shots or it didn't happen.

Since I still plan on subscribing one day, I tried to follow the instructions to sub. It wants me to go to the CO site - which autoredirects to the Arc site, in a great pointless loop of frustration. I've submitted a ticket; let's see if that helps anything.

you cannot access your subscription information via the perfect world link as it forces you to be pushed to arc and arc does not have a subscription page. I believe they rolled this out too soon for neglecting a major point people need to reach. They better have a subscription management page.

    Signature/Avatar Rule Violation
Signatures are limited to five lines of text, including blank lines, and/or an image. The total signature size must be no larger than 500x150 pixels and 50Kb in size if it contains an image. Images must be in .jpg format. The text in the signature may be customized by the BBCode in use on the forums. It is recommended that you stick with readable fonts and colors and that the size is not too large. You may mention websites and ventures that you are in some way related to, as long as they are otherwise appropriate for the community. Avatars are limited to 100x100 pixels, or 19.6 KB (whichever is smaller). No Animated images will be allowed. Strong political and religious sentiments should be kept out of profiles, signatures, and other content in this community. Failure to adhere to these rules will result in an infraction, and the removal of the offending signature or avatar.

    From the Rules and Policies

I don't see how my avatar is too big. Untill TT comes to me and asks me to change it then I will. but I can't see how it is due to the fact that I had to change the size a few times before I posted it.

And sorry that I don't trust you but I've had quite the issues with people telling me whats what in the past. so I beg you pardon if don't react and change it

However I am thinking on changing my Signature that's more of my style, this qularr thing was just for the giggles....and mostly to anger my "Qularr friend"..god she will kill me if she see's this but anyways..I take your word that I need to change it but I won't just do it on your point out. if that makes any sense.

Your avatar isn't, your signature is. That 500 x 150 rule? It's not just the picture, it's the entire signature, from the divider line to the last line.

I recently had to shrink my graphic and remove some lines because I didn't notice that either.

If PWI wants us to be sold on ARC, they should actually finish the damn site before making it the default. When you have to use a ton of BS work arounds just to get basic info or access to important feature, that's a slap in the face for your customers. Last I checked, PWI was not some Indy studio that can't afford a team of professional designers and QA testers.

OK, so I get the general idea is that everyone hates the Arc Launcher client or website. But honestly I am very confused about everyone's complaints. Can't change your billing info easy or manage your account? Umm, took me less then 2 minutes to find where to do it, frankly pretty much all of the complaints I have seen can be solved just by bothering to look at what all you can do. It really just seems like people are looking at something new and just saying screw this it sucks it is not what I am used to and then don't bother to take 5 minutes to learn some slightly different ways of doing things. Oh, and you do not need to use Arc to play CO, you can still launch the game with its own launcher same as before.

It's because the "something new" was uncalled for, unnecessary, changed without warning, obnoxious, and forces us to either use it or "cheatcode" our way around it to get what we had before... and on top of all that, the "something new" clearly hasn't gotten enough feedback or testing or anything else from the people its aimed at - the players - or else it clearly wouldn't have come out in the current state if it came out at all.

PWE just said "play this way or else".

Trust me, the old site used the same cookies (as do most sites) - why are they telling you about this when you first visit the new site? It's now a law that web sites have to inform you that they use cookies when you first visit.

(I don't want to be forced to use ARC either; but as for the site, iit uses the same cookies the other versions had.)

I think we have a couple problems here.

First, the site isn't complete and doesn't do what the old one did. It also has some "quirky" design decisions. And the site's live, non-optional and, therefore, not in beta. Those are all ... bad. Seriously? We're off into bush league territory here.

If you're going to push a new interface forward, you have to get it right because first impressions last, especially if you're dealing with a community that already has reservations about you.

Second, people ALWAYS hate new interfaces. Always. Fundamentally, it's because we're creatures of habit and don't like our patterns interrupted. See: Metro. (Note, I can't stand it, but Metro wasn't designed for people who use their computers for content creation -- see a MS UI designer's posts at Reddit http://www.reddit.com/r/microsoft/comments/1srr93/the_next_windows_8_update_should_look_like_this/ce132dj ).

All said, what we have here is a situation that's almost guaranteed to tick people off. And our corporate overlords tend to be OMG tone deaf when it comes to dealing with us.

I was an early adopter to the Arc thing, I pretty much checked it out the second CO was available on it. So, I can't be accused of not giving it a fair shake or really checking it out. Here's my beef with it.

The layout and interface isn't bad, I play a few PWE games (ok, 2) so it's pretty handy to switch between. That said? Always active in the background is a TERRIBLE design decision. Not everyone has 8 gigs of ram and a quad core processor, if I didn't upgrade my computer about 8 months back, I literally would be incapable of playing with Arc. As well, the fact that you have to right click it in the system tray to actually close it? Defeats the ENTIRE PURPOSE of the close button. Hell, guys, computers work like they do for a reason. Stop trying to reinvent the wheel, we know wtf a minimize button does. I've got 2 content management programs on my computer that do the same shady as hell thing, and the other one is the oh-so-popular Ea Origin launcher. Which, honestly, is about what I can compare Arc to. Sure, Arc loads a bit faster. It's also a bit more of a memory leaking mess, which is *awful* when you consider that so is Champs. Playing at the lower end of what are supposed to be the minimum specs, with Arc? Even with everything turned down, and on half rez, it's still a choppy mess. Playing on the easily tracked down recommended specs, with everything all the way down, is still barely doable.

In its defense? It's flat out foolish to think that disks and stand alone games are going to be the norm within a few years. Direct digital distribution is a thing, and it'll become more of a thing as we go on. So, of course, content providers are going to want an easy way to advertise their games to you. They're also going to want a way to track if you have it installed, for DRM purposes. Put simply, I'm not *fond* of this kind of launcher, but if you are the sort to quit games entirely over them? Sell your pc, dude. The next few years are not going to be good for you, better switch to a console while you can.

That said? The new website is a hideous laggy mess. I found everything easily enough, but I was also told in like 4 places that I was unsubbed, when I actually had a week and a half left. Well, I didn't bother logging in to check, I trusted the website. Now I've got 3 days left, and I just wasted about a week of my sub because I thought it was expired. And let me tell you how freaked out I was when it didn't even detect that I'd played the game. I've made no qualms about mentioning the fact that I've subbed for like 1300 days and the game is only crediting me for 700+. It looked like my play time got erased again, I would NOT want to be the customer rep on the phone when I called about that one. Thankfully, I finally found the manage subscription page, which prevented a serious cardiac event.

I unsubbed on the spot, naturally. I'm not going to accrue game time until I'm sure it actually counts. You're not doing that to me again, Cryptic. 20 tickets and a few PMs later over a few years, I know how little y'all care.
In game, I am @EvilTaco. Happily killing purple gang members since May 2008.

I had a subbing error a couple months ago (before ARC). I contacted customer service and they credited the correct number of days within three days.

Sorry to hear about your experience.

I had installed through Steam and because of that, none of my subscription info showed up on ARC. So if that kind user hadn't had the direct link to the billing page, I'd have had nothing to do to stop being billed.

PW is the worst thing to ever happen to CO.
