Server Instability, morning 12/31

Hey folks, we're aware that there are a number of issues going on for Cryptic games -- we've got reports of disconnects and the launcher not loading, specifically.

It's looking to be a connection issue with our data center. We're working to get this resolved as soon as possible, and we'll let you know when it's fixed. Thanks everyone for your patience.

    I told you to update the pasta on the server...but srsly, the beheaviour seems to inderciate that this is more than a simple connection issue at the datacenter...the pattern would fit a DDoS but CO lacks the fame to get known let along invoke such an attack....so that kinda rules that out, unless an overly bitter player was doing it or something...

    Yeah some things are broken... no I don't use/abuse them.. where would be the fun in that?

    Well the east coast PWI servers were on and offline this morning too, and CO servers are also based over near Boston afaik. Seems more likely an issue there - cogent be damned!

    arc just gave me a notification about East Coast sever stability. Problem is Im on the WEST COAST!

    If a major gaming company can get a direct denial of service attack and be crippled for over an hour, they seriously need to hire better personnel.

    Update: The server machines actually caught fire. Both of them. They're shopping for a new motherboard now and hoping that's the only thing that burned out.

    The servers caught on fire? How does that happen?

    What is the disaster recovery/failover plan? Shouldn't the backups be hosted in a different location?

    That may have happened but its doubtful and as for disaster recovery fail over it is a matter of having identical copy of all equipment and software in an offsite datacenter so that a few settings get changed and its up and running within 2 hours.

    Yeah yeah "Captain" Spock and his plagiarism aside, how about we get some sort of update on the issue at hand? It's been 3 hours or so now and the usual "we are aware of the problem" crap is a tad annoying.

    I realise you are probably working with a skeleton crew given the time of year but it can't hurt to try and keep the customers informed. Are we able to get some sort of update? Even if it is just a simple "we aren't sure how long the delay will be but we are currently working on resolving the issue".

    UPDATE to my previous UPDATE! Yup its all working

    ..........No wait, account server connection failed, but that might be everyone trying to log in at once. Still it's a step in the right direction

    One of the Employees started their New Year’s Resolution early they took the servers and pawned them to pay for his plane ticket to the Virgin Islands. They don’t want to update us on the status they are too busy looking for which pawn shop the servers could be found at.

    Launcher may be up but the server is still showing as down. Starting to think they literally run this operation with rubber bands and spit.

    And yes I was kidding, it's not the machine that caught fire, it's the monitor on it. Too bad it's a mac.

    The launcher says the server is down, but I'm trying to get in because I'm a rebel.

    If that doesn work, there's always PTS.
    Call Maverick if you need a DPS help, or Combat Medic if you need a healer.

    I am known for having extremely good or extremely bad luck with drops.
