    Same problem here, and I just got it off steam.
    Haven't had a chance to play other than the closed beta.
    Is everyone who has this problem a steam user as well?

    I just got dhe retail version yesterday and it was workin fine. I wake up next morning to play for bout an hour and i cant cuz of dhe "Trying To Update Launcher" message -.-

    Same issue cant get laucher to get to updater.... just says trying to update laucher hangs for about 3 mins or so then gives me launcher error connection was idle for too long
    was working fine about 20 mins ago

    I'm having the same problem, I had a closed beta client purchased my key from direct2drive.
    I've been playing for a few days now with no issues to speak of. Until now...Tried to log in four or five times now, launcher times out due to 'idle error' after approx. ten minutes.

    I was having the same problem so I launched the game by bypassing the launcher and now it says it can't connect to the account server.

    Yup, was playing fine not 20 minutes ago. Logged out to burn a DVD for my flatmate and now "Trying to update the launcher" >.<

    I played the game fine yesterday, and today that little screen is up there, taunting me. and I'm quite disappointed, I have my day today to play all day and cant. I didnt just pay 50 dollars to be crapped on. They have professionals for that.

    Servers are clearly down. And considering it's 4AM on the west coast, it may be a few hours or so before anything happens.

    Same problem at the moment. Worked fine yesterday. Had the problem before but usually after a few tries it was fine. Not so lucky today though.

    Servers aren't actually down, I am currently talking to a friend playing on Vent right now. But new people cannot seem to login. The launcher does this trying to update, and bypassing the launcher, you cannot connect to the accounts server.

    Well it's 2pm over here and I've little interest in paying for 24h/d access to an online game if they won't react to situations which prevent me from playing if it happens to be "a bad time" for them. Not attacking you or Cryptic, just saying.

    Same problem here, i was playing for an hour then i log out to do some stuff at home, when i get to log in game... this was happening... ¬¬

    I got the same error, and I was playing fine just a few hours ago.

    I just logged out and when I try to log back in, it tells me that it is trying to update the launcher and just times out.

    Hmm i was having some connection problems earlier, so i booted the PC. Now i'm having the same message as the rest of you guys.

    Everyone is having this issue. There are like 4-7 posts all like 7+ pages long with people talking about it. Why doesnt someone go throw a bucket of cold water on the Server Maintenance personnel?

    Not sure how reliable the main page is but its saying that the server is up. So who knows whats going on. Never actually had the "trying to update launcher" issue before. Usually get past this and it says the server is down.

    Just go the game. Same issue. Patcher tries to update and connection times out. FAIL:mad:

    I'm having the same problem,tried uninstalling and reinstalling,installing on my other comp and asking my GF to try hers..all the same...trying to update launcher,please be patient,problem started right after I installed some windows updates and an adobe update.

    Me too. Just bought the game 3 hours ago...Patched it up. Turned it off to eat some din din...Now this. I got to see the loading screen only.

    Seems to be a rampant problem.

    Well, I'm no fanboi, but I will say it's not uncommon for a game to have some issues right around launch time. Overall I think these guys do a pretty good job. They patch frequently, and sometimes patches cause problems too. Still beats livin' with a particular bug for 6 months without seein' any patch.

    Yeah, sux not bein' able to connect right now, but I think it might be a little premature to go cancelling and askin' for refunds. It's the game's first week live, so you gotta expect a FEW speedbumps along the way.
