I don't really care as much as I only fly Escorts and Raiders so I would never use this ship no matter what the design.
HOWEVER, I have to say, this has got to be one of the most ugly ships I have seen from STO for a long time. STO's earlier 25th century design aesthetic has always been rather not good. Though, it did improve over time especially the surface materals with balance between the grey and dark areas that actually look pretty ok on canon ships. Not to mention the 25th century interpretation of canon designs, basically upgraded but following the same lines, look pretty great. But I am really surprised this ever left the drawing board. It to me looks like a low effort sickening kitbash that wouldn't even make it as one of the background ships at Wolf 359 or the Qualor II Federation Depo.
I thought the idea was for innovative cross-faction designs evolving from the best of Federation and Klingon technologies.. Of course this is obviously supposed to, at least design wise be an interpretation of 25th century Crossfield-class ship. So they can keep doing Discovery but call it new 25th century content. Sorry but I am just not in any way impressed by a D7 drive section attached to saucer.
There was a reason Andrew Probert's 70s design didn't pan out and it was kinda silly to use it for Discovery.. BUT there was SOME effort to make it seem like it COULD be a one-off Federation Starship albeit not a very good one. This, skin aside, is worse than that.
I am not mad so much as I am disappointed because, assuming the majority of staff are still there since Victory of Life, I know that you guys can do SO MUCH BETTER than this.
I am curious where it is you are seeing Discovery design influence in the Khitomer Alliance Battlecruiser. It doesn't have anything that screams DSC except maybe the color patterning and the excessive amount of extraneous junk hanging out on the wrong side of the armor layer.
The ship actually looks good for what it represents (though it is perhaps a bit too weighted towards Klingon design). The overall shape is traditional Klingon design with the only Federation influence being the forward pod is enlarged and saucer shaped, the hull is clad in Federation style ceramic coating instead of bare tritanium alloy like the Klingons usually do, and the Federation style nacelles with bussards in the tips instead of the collectors being on the leading edge of the "wing" like the D7 had.
From the side you can see a definite Gorn influence and there are those Romulan/Dewan "spines" sticking out of main engineering on the topside along with what appears to be the typical Romulan "sling" on the underside. There is even a vestigial Klingon command pod 'platform' though it is blended into the "saucer" edge Fed style instead of the pod looking like a hamburger with too small of a bun. The Federation Sentinel-class Star Cruiser had an edge something like it well before DSC came out. All in all it is a nice looking design.
I am also curious about which of Probert's TMP designs you are referring to as "didn't pan out and it was kinda silly to use it for Discovery". The Probert design that is famous for not being selected was the original Ambassador design, and while the producers liked it they had to go with a totally different design simply because the organic curves of the secondary hull and struts would take too long to make a physical shooting model of.
If anything the Discovery looks like Ralph McQuarrie's design for the hero ship from "Planet of Titans". It was not the ship design that was rejected, it was the hideously bad script that killed the whole movie, and that was the reason the ship was never used for an Enterprise (though the low-quality preliminary models did appear in the background of TMP and several times in TNG so strictly speaking the McQuarrie ship is canon and separate from the Crossfield-class.
I like the fins at the aft, and anything glowy, but that saucer section is......revolting. They'd have been better going with a Delta rather than a squashed ball.
yup, a K'tinga hull with a Voyager saucer would be MUCH more attractive IMHO and a big freaking warbird painted on the belly courtesy of the Romulans who didn't have much to say in the design and may look a LOPT better as it is all dark like the intelligence ships are.
may be a moot point. I'm travelling the last week of January and 2 weeks in February so I may not have the time/opportunity to complete the event. I don't think my travel laptop has the HP to run STO
I'm not sure which way to go on this ship. On one hand, I have seen a number of very good ship designs out there that incorporate Kling, Fed and Rom elements really well and that look really good. But on the other hand, I have also seen far more combo designs that were absolute junk. So I guess this one isn't so bad. It's just not at all what I expected. Will take some getting used to. But I really like the console and the trait.
I think I'm gonna try and get it, I am just on the fence right now about how much I'll really use the ship itself. Will have to wait and see how it handles.

I like it! Quite a lot actually. I think I agree with the people who say a more oblong saucer would have been better - but other than that, it works pretty well.
Others have pointed out what in my view would have made it an all-round exceptional design: triangular saucer.
It's a good thing the saucer is actually smaller than the front angle pictures make it out, plus the black outer edges hide its size.
Really look forward to the ship [minus its crippling turn rate], starship trait, and console. It is an exciting and daring design even if I think it falls short due to having to fit too many constraints.
I honestly appreciate that the article calls it a Klingon/Federation ship because that thing has no Romulan in it and calling it an "Alliance" battlecruiser like it was made with the ingames Alliances input was some hot BS. Rather them just be upfront like they are about it being a Kling/Fed design
The real-world reason is that Klingon and Romulan ship language is pretty similar, and we felt that combining Fed and Klingon was challenging enough to start. My headcanon is that there is plenty of Romulan tech on the inside.

I honestly like how the McQuarrie design was repurposed into the Crossfield too. I honestly didn't like the prototype design they showed in the teaser. Seemed too bronze as well as stubby, like they tried to mate a Fed ship with a D7. The current incarnation feels more balanced to me. But that is my personal opinion.
As for ship design elements, I think the Romulans would contribute more of a sweeping wing style into something. Probably better for a smaller ship than a Battlecruiser.

This is the 10th anniversary ship? If anything deserved to be called hot garbage this would be it, not to mention the lame boff seating. If ship design is a problem perhaps make less ships.
You know, the more I look at it, the more I actually think I like the side view of this ship. But I agree with others that I think the saucer should be a little different. Maybe make the saucer a little narrower at its widest point, turning it into more of an oval saucer design. That way it would look a little sleeker and fit the rest of the ship better. And you wouldn't have to narrow it much to work. Or as others also suggest, making it more like Voyager's saucer. But I am definitely glad the saucer is not larger that it is, though the perspective angled images make it feel bigger and more unbalanced. I just hope we have saucer options and lots of hull options for this ship.

What?? Didn't you see the Nadara?? That abomination was nothing BUT spikes! And the Scimitar! (Yeah okay, built by Remans but I doubt they designed)
the spikes were the result of borg augmentation - the actual narada had barely any spikes, if it even had a single one

If you told me to think of a Fed/KDF ship this is pretty much what I'd think of. It looks fine for what it is. Could be worse... they could have put a Fed sphere like the Pasteur has! Can't wait to see the other combo ships we'll get. Fed/Rom, KDF/Rom, etc.
I wish Command Spec got a bit of a re-tooling. IMO, its a bit of a letdown; but for 2 of the powers.
Also glad we're getting a break from DSC themed ships.

Yeah don't really agree with him, you don't look at Klingon or Romulan ships in Star Trek or STO and go "wait.. who's ship is that?" They have some pretty distinct design ques.
Klingon ships are typically more angular, have sharper lines and stack things ontop in methods that break up organic flows of lines while Romulan vessels are sleaker, have swooping features, and are full of more organic lines that conjure up more images of a predatory bird than an armored war vessel like the klingon ships
Tho I will say that yeah it probably was hard enough mashing Klingon and Fed together so thats why they stopped at that.
While I think a more diamond-shaped saucer and less jagged/spikey aft impulse section might have visually meshed better, I suspect it's something that will have to grow on me.
In terms of performance, on paper, it seems very.. "Mary Sue". It's roughly a squishier Vengeance without the hangar.. in an era where we have the fleet Gagarin/Qugh. Console/trait can't really be assessed without proper testing; but there's potential for them to be promising.
Holy cow... This is seriously the ugliest space ship I've ever seen. I hope this isn't the big 10th anniversary content that was supposed to blow everyone's socks off.
I've seen and flown so pretty ugly ships, but I haven't seen anything more hideous than the toilet brush ships.
This new one doesn't even come close. I actually kind of like it.
I agree, the anniversary ship isn't as ugly as a lot of people are saying it is. the toilet brushes are far worse, the LTS Klingon destroyer is another hideous ship, hit that transform button and you suddenly have a building sticking out of the back of your space ship, or an open reactor core just looks bad
Honestly, based on the pics we have, would have looked better with a more elongated saucer, kinda like a Sovereign, and maybe the nacelles not so low.
However I'm going to reserve full judgement until I can see more angles, probably when I actually get it because Free is Free.
Recall that the anniversary event Odyssey-class arrived with the elongated saucer. Some of us bemoaned lack of a round saucer. Soon thereafter came first Odyssey-class bundle. With the round saucer offered from the Sojourner-class. The Alliance Battlecruiser Bundle, IMO, is almost assured. Don't give up hope for a variant which better suits you.

I think the anniversary ship visual design is fine. The stats are good too, especially for a free ship.
I can see the argument right now.

Anyway, I’m usually super critical of Cryptic designs, but I gotta say, I like a lot of this. A couple of saucer options in the ship tailor would be nice though.
