Either the server hamsters are being killed off by something, or someone's attacking on purpose. No confirmation either way. All we can do is wait and hope AmbassadorKael keeps us up to date.
PS the links in the upper portion directing to the Bug reporting site does not work and is broken.
They were, but then the winged hussars arrived.
IMHO Step one for a basic support strategy would be for these winged hussars to include the updated link to the threads that were merged instead of making wise remarks to customers that are already aggravated.... this is customer support 101

Also wouldn't be wise to poke winged hussars, baddmoons, or starswords with pointy objects.
Also... they don't actually work FOR Cryptic. They're volunteer mods. They can pretty much just pass on word to people like Kael, who pass it on to the Bug Team.

Before fix, it wouldn't get to the login/character screen.
After fix, it (so far), always gets through login, to the character select screen, but then normally sits for about 30 seconds while trying to bring up my characters, then disconnects with "Disconnected from the login server. Please try again later" and goes back to the Login screen.
Every half hour or so, it lets me get in on a character... but then disconnects me after 5 minutes or so of play. At which point it repeats the above process.

Seems Consoles are suffering the same issues. Getting 'Disconnected From Log-in Server' alot when switching toons.

Ok... this... might be bigger than expected.
Edit:
Ok... did a little recon into the Champions Online and Neverwinter forums... while not quite as vocal as us over here at STO... looks like they had the same problems as well. So... maybe ISP issues?
I can get to the character select screen but it never loads any of them. Eventually I get disconnected. Even completely shutting down STO and trying again doesn't help.

Already got a thread on this. Thread merge in 3... 2...
This is the alt on which I've been doing the anniversary event, so if I can't get in to finish up, that will be a problem.
We got until Feb 21st to finish the anniversary. So we got time if this locks them down. Also if this lasts longer than a few hours they may extend the event by an equivelent number of days that were missed due to downtime.
It's probably an actual issue with something on Cogent's (their ISP) end; but as someone who deals with these kinds of issues, sometimes even with a large customer like Cryptic, Cryptic techs will call - and Cogent will claim - "Hey nothing wrong on or end; and no other customers are reporting issues..." and the dance starts....

Ok,here's what i did: I wound up getting to char select screen and got Dc'ed several times. So as i stayed on the disconnected from game screen I hit Alt+f4 six times real fast and hit enter. So then I hit restart on my computer and much to my dismay there was still an instance of it running. My guess is check your task manager to see if you have more than one instance of it running. And also try the steps i did,it seemed to work for me\m/

If it's a datacenter issue, it might be affecting thousands of companies / customers, and there's nothing any one company can do to fix it until whatever the issue is gets fixed in the datacenter.
This has happened a few times to my employer over the years, with an outage last year for half a day. We use a high-end company with multiple data centers not Akbar and Jeffs ISP Hut. Even Amazon, Google and Microsoft cloud services break now and then, just less often.
I was looking forward to getting the event ship tonight, but with a 2-week safety margin I'm not worried.

Not seen anything yet, but I’m assuming that there will be a patch tomorrow morning, as is usual on Thursdays... That would be a bummer, with servers down two mornings in a row...
