Who said anything about Blizzard? Also, Blizzard isn't selling "expansion packs" for $130, $160, $150, also Blizzard isn't selling gear (ships) for $30 a pop, Blizzard also isn't selling simple
"quality of life" items (bag space) for $4.... the list goes on. I ain't hating, I love STO, and I paid more than most people in the game, and I don't mind, doesn't change the fact that, like almost every other Asian based game, their store items are about 3 times too expensive. Guild Wars 2 700 gems ($10) for an account wide outfit, Black Desert Online $35 for single character outfit, Star Trek Online $30 for a ship restricted to 1 of 3 factions. Again, I'm not complaining, just pointing out. You don't like it? DOn't read it, got something to say, I don't care, PEACE!

Yeah, but you didn't list any of what Blizzard DOES sell... :p Also STO does not sell expansion packs. the store items are packs of ships and stuff related to the expansion but purchase of the pack is not required to play the missions.

So... you think this person is wrong? you think only North Americans play STO? Well, 3.5 years ago they was apx 1 million STO players. At any time of day there was mega people playing as this is an international game. It is STILL an international game, but since only North Americans tolerate less that mediocre performance most of the non N Americans have moved on. And ever since they added ARC launcher and started adding excessive detail, the game population has dwindled to a small tribe primarily made up up a small percentage of the former HUGE N American player base. And this is largely due to Cryptic ignoring the pleas when there WAS lots of players, for them to quit adding new stuff and fix what was there. Many of these bugs have been in STO since before I joined it in Mar, 2012. Now with the new "improvements, they have made it so that many current players can no longer play unless they want to switch to Win 10. So now, a good percentage of the few remaining players are being extorted into purchasing Win 10. Me personally, I will no longer play or promote any Cryptic games as I don't approve of their business practices: such as saying they did not know this would happen. I suspected it and have extremely limited computer tech knowledge. So how COULD they not know.

Whether the game is doomed or not I can't say but I do feel STO overall has at least another five years in it.

But yes I think we can safely predict the console side will quietly disappear in no more than a few years. I'd bet $5 against two dead flies it is gone by late 2017 / early 2018.

That outcome was locked in as soon as the console server became a second class release platform with a separate set of servers. It's a matter of cost of ownership over revenue.

Redundant investment of people, money and infrastructure plus no way to join established fleets means less retention or incentive for people to buy virtual assets.

I see a half-hearted marketing play. I'm willing to bet their internal console tech folks are being starved for resources. I also bet they know that and feel no great obligation to go on a "death march".

Remember, there is a reason why they did away with PvP, with faction=specific content, etc. It came down to redundant investments that didn't balance out with revenue.

Dude you sound like you have been following the elections a little to closely my friend. Your hopelessness is showing.

You should be happy, console finally has a decent game... sure with a horrible support team that hasn't fixed nearly 7 year old bugs, and sure it has a horribly greedy Chinese developer now that cares about nothing more than how much money you'll give them. However, you're a console owner, and as a proud member of the Master Race I am happy to say, you deserve nothing more than the brown stuff I leave behind in the bathroom everyday.

Interesting. Last I checked, California was still a part of the United States. I wasn't aware that they had left the Union.

Anyway, if you feel that way...what are you doing here?

Last I checked PWE is owned by the Chinese... interesting. I'm here as a Star Trek fan, not as anything else, don't question me, just accept it.

Perfect World is a China-based video game company specializing in MMORPGs. Perfect World was founded in 2004 by Chi Yufeng, the president of Human Software Corporation.

The game's developer is called Cryptic studios.

Cryptic Studios is an American video game developer specializing in massively multiplayer online role-playing games. It is headquartered in Los Gatos, California and is a wholly owned Perfect World subsidiary.

PWE is Chinese and they do own Cryptic now, but Cryptic is a US company and always has been. PWE isn't directly involved in Cryptic's business nor do they have anything to do with the game's design.

OP if that is the case then perhaps you should consider opening up your PS4, scooping out all the technogubbins inside and using the empty box as a hamster house because, following your reasoning for a game release less than 6 weeks old, then that is all your fancy console will be good for when the next gen console is released in a year or 2.

Meanwhile, I will mourn your passing as a member of the wider STO community as I struggle on with my adaptable and upgradable prehistoric PC.

You crack me up! He posted around 1am CST. That puts the prime game times in the middle of the #$%#$% Pacific Ocean! Understanding that a game isn't seeing many players at that time isn't "Merica elitism". It's simple Geography.

As for the history of the game...I've been around since the beginning and even followed the game before Cryptic bought it and we all thought it might end up vaporware. There was NEVER 1 million STO players. Ever. Neverever. Consider that even as far back as 2012, Steam was only reporting peaks of 3K players. http://steamcharts.com/app/9900#All Oh...look actual proof to back my statement.

They are not forcing players to switch to Windows 10. Clearly you don't have any computer tech knowledge so at least you admit that. I do have extensive computer tech knowledge.

Yeah, they got bugs...you won't find anyone around here to argue that point, but even a blind squirrel will occasionally find a nut so you go that going for you.

True, I should have said Perfect World rather than PWE as you are correct, there is a difference between the two. PWE is a sister game developer to Cryptic under Perfect World, but also acts as a publisher for Cryptic and Runic Games here in the US.

Not sure how the developer Cryptic Studio... oh sorry, I meant PWE is "greedy" in the classical sense.

Sure ships are rather expensive at $30 USD and I suspect when T7 ships are released they will cost $35. Some of the ship packs costs $130+, but overall the game is completely free to play.

All content is free. There are no expansion packs that players are required to pay for. For example no one had to pay any money on the PC side to play any of the content related to the Agents of Yesterday expansion. That will also apply to the console when that expansion is released. Sure there is a temporal ship pack selling for $130+, but it does not contain any extra story missions. Just the ships, costumes, an Android Boff, titles and some other things that do not bar players from playing any missions in the game.

The game basically provide everything you need to play the main story mission, though it will not give you everything you want. However, players would generally find that the game becomes harder after passing level 50. At level 56 the increase in difficulty become noticeable to me. Therefore, people will likely find that the last free ship they received at level 40 (T5 ship) is no longer good enough. But at least there are 3 different major events during the year that allows players to claim a free T6 Event Ship (a single T6 ship designed for each specific event) so that F2P players are not stuck with whatever free T5 ship they selected at level 40.

While Event Ships may not be the exact ship you want it is still a T6 ship and it is free as long as you do the daily grind to obtain it. The daily grind is not that bad, usually it takes less than 10 minutes to do and when you become perficient at it then it should take less than 3 minutes. The exception would be the Anniversary Event since travelling to different locations is required, but it should take less than 15 minutes.

I have a secondary account that is completely F2P where I have not spent any real money at all. It is rather limited, but I have not had any real problems playing STO without a C-Store ship or purchasing anything else in the C-Store will real money on the account. All the things I purchased from the C-Store were done using Zen that I traded refined dilithium for which have basically been limited to Doff slots, inventory slots and the EC Cap Remover. The EC Cap Remover does not exist for consoles since the EC limit by default is 1 billion EC compared to the 10 million EC limit on the PC. The one difficult I do have is finding the time to play my F2P account.

I can't compare STO to any other online game though, because STO is the only online game I play. But the various bugs in the game can be annoying especially when new content is released. Though it hasn't gotten to the point where I would simply quit the game out of frustration.

If I said this wouldn't work on consoles, I'd be proven right. And Everyone would bow before me and I would be a game god.

Now go on with your business, you lesser mortals and worship my illogical post.

    Worship it....aXQHSfb.png

Worship? nah i wouldnt but nat would be forced to worship you which would cause a temporal refraction whihc would enduce a cascade failure of the quantumn flux capacitor and space would rip a big one causing the game to implode thus ending all life on mars though there isnt life on mars so maybe jupiter cause we dont know if theres life there or not.....whew try saying that all in one sentence :D

So... you think this person is wrong?

As most in this thread have said, the OP's rock solid and legit. The game's dying or dead on consoles. OP proved the point.
you think only North Americans play STO?

The amount of english accents on the STO podcasts I listen to is undeniable PROOF that STO is euro-centric. Combine that with how the German blog gets information first and it's pretty obvious that not only is Console dead, but that PWE cares far more about its Euro base than it does the yappy gun obsessed obese high fructose corn syrupy nation of American players.

Anyways, why are were bothering to argue when you, me and the Opee make three who all resolutely agree?

I hear they were moving their HQs to London but then with the whole Brexit thing, they picked Paris instead. After the move, they plan to pull the plug on console, KDF, Romulans and Fleets then bundle the software on Free AOL minutes disk and hand them out at fairs.

Just came back, no matter how much i do love STO in general and even more Star Trek which with i grew on and learned some values from there..

The business model on Star trek game feels wrong but that is something one can ignore if everytyhing else is good.

But the thing is, combat still feels as sluggish as it felt in the launch, bit more maybe even, moving a character is odd, sometimes characters stucks on movement or moves nowhere at all. Cant use melee attack and move at the same time if you go Klingon melee.. Tooltips still ddont include the most vital info, cooldown, you havce to go to separate window to see cooldowns..

IF combat and general movement of character/ship, informative tooltips that fit the game window and so forth would work as well as Warcraft, EVE online or Elder Scrolls online for example, the game would be much more popular.

I do play on PC sp this console stuff hopefully does not make my gameplay worse though i fear some functionality has suffered from PS ersion perphaps or just common bugs, not known.

Anyway, i hope for longevity of game but the overall controls and vital info should be way better to actually have good hope.

Would not also hurt to allow people to use new ship token of promotions to use on C-Store ships as well, one ship is not that much or lower prices would also be bit better ythough in other games, there would be great outcry if swords and armor would be sold for real mponey in out of Asia market.
    Captain Hunt, at your service!
