I still have to wait week to week for a bunch of shows on Hulu, and CBS All Access, for that matter. I got a subscription a while ago, for a lot more than just Star Trek. My biggest complaint is the commercials, can't even fast forward through them like I did when I had a DVR and cable service.
Isn't the whole point of subscriptions that you don't have to watch commercials any more?
Indeed. And for the whole point of subscriptions is also that not only do I not have to watch commercials, it means that the subscription service has to make stuff that appeals to me, not stuff that gets him the best profit margin thanks to the advertisement. I am not gonna pay a subscription to useless and mindless drivel TRIBBLE like reality shows.

No, the point is that you can watch it on your own schedule, not at a specific time when it airs on TV. I don't think commercials have anything to do with that.
The commercials thing is something that will have to work itself out.
Ad revenue is a huge part of television, so it's not shocking that networks not named HBO or Netflix are hesitant to give that up. Just because the no-ad model works for them, doesn't mean it will work for everyone... unless a massive constriction occurs, limiting the amount of content being made. Alternatively, we will also likely see more native ads in TV shows, as a way to get around this.
Im not sure how you can say it looks " meh" when it literally showed NOTHING about the premise of the show. No ship, no crew names or pictures, NOTHING! " New crew, new villains, new hero's" Well, we already new that! Has this been verified that it came from CBS? I've watched MANY supposed " teasers" for movies and shows on youtube that look 100% real, yet turn out to be BS, and they even have the studio logos. Maybe im getting overly skeptical in my old age,, but I didn't see ANYTHING about this anywhere else.
Either way, its a cool first draft teaser of the ACTUAL teaser that likely will come around sept-October. I think this is just to remind people that they ARE making a new Trek series...

even Youtube has commercials anymore, though at least most of those are skippable.
or if you have some form of adblock addon, they can be stopped from appearing outright...unfortunately, that only works if you watch youtube on a computer - if you have a TV or bluray player that has youtube and watch it there, you have to deal with those annoying ads because there's no way to install adblockers on that kind of hardware (that i know of)
A normie goes "Oh, what's this?"
An otaku goes "UwU, what's this?"
A furry goes "OwO, what's this?"
A werewolf goes "Awoo, what's this?"
"It's nothing personal, I just don't feel like I've gotten to know a person until I've sniffed their crotch." "We said 'no' to Mr. Curiosity. We're not home. Curiosity is not welcome, it is not to be invited in. Curiosity...is bad. It gets you in trouble, it gets you killed, and more importantly...it makes you poor!"

if it ends up being a different perspective of the tos era (like fallowing a different ship/ crew) that could be interesting or just be so riddled with call backs and nostalgia it becomes TRIBBLE

This was shown at a CBS event for advertisers, intended to get them hyped about buying air time during the shows this fall. For their purposes, all it has to say is that it's a new Star Trek show, because there's a guaranteed audience for at least the first few episodes
I was kind of hoping it'd tell us something more about the show itself, but there you go.

Given this was probably more for advertisers then anything, I am not surprised it didn't really have any meat to it. As someone else said, it basically is saying "look we are making a Star Trek Show. Don't you want to throw your money at us to buy ad space"
...I should clarify that I meant the logo looked meh. Not of a fan of that cross-hatch pattern on the insignia. The R on the font used also bugs me a bit.
So the Anthology rumor isn't completely dead..., yet...

I still say anthology style is stupid and show destroying and the sooner that rumor is buried the better. Re-casting every year, new sets every year, lack of investment in characters who are going to be gone sooner than later...
Though the logo simply says “Star Trek,” Variety has learned that the series will have a more specific title to be unveiled at a later date. Later installments in the “Star Trek” television franchise had titles that differentiated them from the original series — “Star Trek: The Next Generation,” “Star Trek: Deep Space Nine,” “Star Trek: Voyager,” and “Star Trek: Enterprise.”
The 2009 credits has me worried. While I completely realize that it would be simply stupid of CBS not to set the show in the AU (because this is the new Star Trek, the thing that sells right now) I just hope they don't use all of those terrible visuals. The bright white bridges, generic aliens, machine guns for phasers - I just hope they don't take everything straight from the movies and pay tribute to the original in a better way.
^ Memory Alpha.org is not canon. It's a open wiki with arbitrary rules. Only what can be cited from an episode is. ^
"No. Men do not roar. Women roar. Then they hurl heavy objects... and claw at you." -Worf, son of Mogh
"A filthy, mangy beast, but in its bony breast beat the heart of a warrior" - "faithful" (...) "but ever-ready to follow the call of the wild." - Martok, about a Targ
"That pig smelled horrid. A sweet-sour, extremely pungent odor. I showered and showered, and it took me a week to get rid of it!" - Robert Justman, appreciating Emmy-Lou
"Paying tribute" to the original is scratching the itch of an audience too small to carry the product - or Trek wouldn't have been off the air for 10+ years. It's like making an STO client for Mac users - they insist they're (financially) relevant and they truly believe it, but they're not.
As to other TV anthologies - keep in mind those were modern day stories that don't have huge overhead from sets, props, and costuming that has to be re-paid in full each time you jump around. Sci-fi production budgeting is a cruel beast on the best of days - deliberately poking that beast is asking to fail.
And did you just say "generic aliens"? 'Cause all of sci-fi fandom LAUGHS at Star Trek's generic aliens, and I don't mean just the AR stuff .

I'm crying a little...
We should never forget this last 12 years. We should never let them to take off air Star Trek again...
It simply can't happen again...

I like it! HYPE TRAIN, CHOOOOO CHOOOO!!!!

And what about that planet next to that star before the title sequence?
