I'm kinda curious how you define this... Especially in the context of "other games do it better".
There are numerous articles on the interwebs that explain it better than I ever could. Here's one of them.
But if you want some honest opinions on which games do it better, I can list a few off the top of my head. Warframe. and Path of Exile.
I'm not advocating they copy what other games do exactly as they do, because STO is its own creation and any ethical monetization changes (if any), need to come from in-house.
But really, when it comes to STO, it gives me the impression they only work for the short term. I'm not seeing a lot of long term vision in their plans. If I'm not seeing a clear path of where a game is going, I'm going to end up losing interest faster because I'm not interested in playing for the short term.
Uh, so what do YOU think is better about the monetization of Warframe and Path of Exile? How does it impact you as a player of those games?
At any rate, the big picture is like a mosaic. It's made out of a lot of little pictures.
1. Crafting/Upgrading that allows you to choose your modifier. The current gambling system is a waste of dil. If I can choose what I want, I will be more willing to spend dil.
2. Another use for device slots, besides holding batteries.
3. Not allowing missions to pop up when we log on.
4. Revamp the ground combat system. More FPS, and less of whatever it is now. We need a cover system to make ground combat more appealing. Especially allowing the NPC's to take advantage of cover.
That's it for now.
One day Cryptic will be free from their Perfect World overlord. Until that day comes, they will continue to pamper the whales of this game, and ignore everyone that isn't a whale.

3. Not allowing missions to pop up when we log on.
For two: yeah, it would be nice if devices could play a larger role in space. On the ground, we need more slots.
For three: there is an option somewhere in the settings that allows you to disable these mission pop ups. As I turned it off years ago, I don't remember where it is, but it is there somewhere.
Vic Fontaine's place
remove faction restriction on defera
updated defera battle zone
better color options in the tailor, including partial color options, like black sleeves on a while tunic.
some sort of token to reduce the time gates on reputation missions
a science heavy trait tree
a no cooldown transwarp to the Captains table.
Good idea. The special Level 15 crafting can use more options. Also, they should either increase the odds of picking up Gummare from the R&D Requisition or introduce other Doffs that can also craft them.
Another thought is a few very special projects at the Master (20) Level should be introduced.

In 2016 i don't want to see another faction. Why? Because it will either be a half-baked faction where we have to chhoose sides, like the romulans (and, of course, it will have 90% of the same content the other factions have plus a few faction specific missions) or it will be a complete standalone faction but that would be unfair for the romulans because they are still linked to FED or KDF.
Then again, i do want Romulan independence. Just play as romulan, o KDF or FED allied anymore. ,
I do want to see more Delta quadrant missions, DOFF missions for the DQ, maybe even more Iconian missions like a civil war between L'Mirens Heralds and T'Kets where we we will side with L'Miren.
I want to see more Enterprise missions, travel through time, meet Captain Archer, get a MACO uniform and the MACO rifle or travelto the future, to the 29th century (the century the Na'Kuhl from "Storm Front"came from and also Captain Braxton and the RElativity) or the 31st century (Crewan Daniels) .
Then, of course i want a T6 Sovereign, maybe a T6 Ambassador and the T6 versions of the Oddy, Scimitar and Bortasqu, the future Vulcan Carrier we saw in Enterprise.
I want an upgrading System where i can choose Mods and rarity (really, this gambling is annoying and too expensove especially when you only get a rarity increase at 40% or something for a fleet item. ). To put thousands or tens of thousands of Dilly into an item only to get nothing or maybe a useless, unwanted mod really kills the fun of upgrading.
Klingon and Romulan pure science vessel(s) for both Zen and their respective fleet variants
Romulan pure carrier
Bug fixing
Lag fixing
More lobi store items (ancient lockbox ships? definitely older event ships)
More of the craftable ground and space items including weapons
More uniforms
More uniforms
More hats please!
Did I mention more uniforms?!
Playable K'Vort class (yes I know the answer is Never)
T6 K'T'inga with respective fleet variant
T6 Kar'Fi with respective fleet variant
Playable Fek'Ihri Fer'Jai Frigate with respective fleet variant
Moar STFs!
Bringing back some old STFs, modified if must
Overall more Fleet vessels
Overall more Fleet gear with new vendors and bigger variety
Dual Beam Banks added as parts of some reputation power's sets
Redesign of PvP, specifically with gear gating (if in 'PvE' gear, read lower) making it noob friendlier, more rewards for participation and not necessarily completion/win
More incentives to do PvP
More PvP maps with objectives, Starbase attack/defend maybe, Valuable resources convoy attack/defense, more war games
More PvP emphasis on objectives, less on zerging
Dedicated PvP gear in atleast two tiers - one which is relatively easily obtainable to give chance to new/returning players (including the dedicated PvE players, to make PvP an easier accessable aspect of gameplay still rewarding resources and lots of fun as well)
Brand new PvP traits (which are won by playing and winning PvP battles), with special traits being given for completing special extraordinary feats (like going 1v3 and surviving, giving you a dedicated title and a small trait giving you 2% more crit when attacked by three or more opponents at the same time - this is just a crude example), these traits could be Captain traits or even Ship/Ground traits
Gating of older "PvE" traits to limit their usefulness in Player versus Player enviroment, making them on-par with PvP, but not better
Did I mention more uniforms?!
Slight buffs when running with friends in party
More faction specific ships
Account wide lobis
Account wide dill cap [but bigger then single character of course] (so it doesn't matter if you farm with 4 characters or only using the one you like/prefer)
Perks for having alts (special dance moves, animations, uniforms, and accolades)
I’d like to see something introduced that brings live back to queues a bit. Something like an irresistible reward you can only get playing queued contend and not from exchange. Since peeps already reach the daily refinement cap seconds after they log thanks to admiralty and doffing it should be something else than Dil.
Hmm, I think quality enhancement chance booster for gear in noteworthy amounts that are account bound would work here.
Peeps that don’t like to play queued contend shouldn’t be upset over it since they can’t make much use of such stuff anyway.

- PvP/E STFs & territory control battlezones, defend/raid fleet holdings and other map zones
- 3D space movement, object collisions, different flight environments (underwater, atmospheric, microscopic, orbital, warp)
- new ground dynamics (lie prone, take cover, climb), environment physics (break through barriers, stack objects, environmental damage, build movable/stackable objects), swimming, jet packs, hover-skiing
- enhanced NPC AI & ability use, random scenarios and encounters, permanent destruction/disability in mission until team repairs/revives
- difficult, challenging and unpredictable/non-scripted scenarios that do not all rely on DPS and timer conditions and where chance of success depends on team coordination
- STFs & battlezones that require lower tier ship classes (ST universe doesn't always have endless swarms of dreadnoughts at their disposal to every quadrant of the galaxy to respond to a crisis)
- non-battle related STF missions (eg. search & rescue, chart a course though a nebula full of hazards, cross an asteroid field, infiltrate enemy lines undetected, transport/repair/build mission holdings) all of which rely on team coordination and ship types and builds (eg. escorts can maneuver and clear large asteroids for cruisers who in turn can extend shields or tank incoming collisions for escorts)
3. gameplay content
- Independent Romulan Faction
- large-scale ground & space maps to explore & interact with (eg. random mini-missions to acquire unique items/information useful for optional fleet holdings or admiralty or doffing etc.)
- new STF events that occur randomly for high rewards/specialty items that appear at different places across the galaxy map
- full ship interiors with usable/necessary facilities
- graphics, models, environmental effects, animations etc, to supplement #2
I know, it's a lot to ask for, but it is listed anyways to make a point: there's a lot of potential to the game that if PWE cared with their large profits from all the expensive items and borderline gambling and dedicated player base to reinvest more of it to make it much more popular and fun, and that translates to greater profits for them in turn.
1: Lobi Events like we had a while ago. get 5 (or now maybe 10) lobe for replaying a mission
2: Make Lobi Items accountwide unlocks. Honestly, only very few players will buy items for all their Chars. I won't buy the Astika, Ateelth and Quas on all my toons but if those ships were accountwide i would invest in more ships like the Olean and Zahl which, atm, are too expensive if i can only use them on 1 toon.
Good idea. The special Level 15 crafting can use more options. Also, they should either increase the odds of picking up Gummare from the R&D Requisition or introduce other Doffs that can also craft them.

This! The bolded part, especially. The only Gumarre I have is on my DR and he's bound to her. Either give us a better chance to get him, or introduce one or two others with the Aegis specialty. And don't put them in lockboxes, make them mission rewards or something, like Gumarre was for the DR.
Now a LTS and loving it.
Just because you spend money on this game, it does not entitle you to be a jerk if things don't go your way.
I have come to the conclusion that I have a memory like Etch-A-Sketch. I shake my head and forget everything.
Foundry love. The return of monthly spotlight missions would be great. Some upgrades to the search filter and, dare I say, the editor, would be wonderful. I can dream.
2016
Tier 6 Sovereign, Nebula and Vor'cha Classes.
A true Romulan Science ship.
A new Ground Battlezone taking the best elements of Dyson and Vaadwaar and creating a epic Dominion Battle zone
Ground weapons esp phasers and disrupters to be given new TNG-VOY skins.
R&D mats to be easily obtainable in bulk rather than random drops like in the good old days when we had star clusters to farm mats.
The Dominion would win a second war because of transwarp.

weelllll... there IS a second one... in a lockbox.... Who is oddly BoP... why? no idea.... the ONLY way to get one is to open the boxes yourself.
I'd like to live through 2016 to see 2017 and Beyond...

LOL! I hear ya. It was a bit quiet before the holidays rolled around though. The next Season episode is going to be a doozy!
Pleeeeeeeeeeeease tell me it's the first episode of a new arc. I'm not sure I can tolerate another temporal cold war mission.
