I think what hotboy is saying is to make both maps one large map and not two smaller maps.

    ethical monetization.
I'm kinda curious how you define this... Especially in the context of "other games do it better".
There are numerous articles on the interwebs that explain it better than I ever could. Here's one of them.

But if you want some honest opinions on which games do it better, I can list a few off the top of my head. Warframe. and Path of Exile.

I'm not advocating they copy what other games do exactly as they do, because STO is its own creation and any ethical monetization changes (if any), need to come from in-house.

But really, when it comes to STO, it gives me the impression they only work for the short term. I'm not seeing a lot of long term vision in their plans. If I'm not seeing a clear path of where a game is going, I'm going to end up losing interest faster because I'm not interested in playing for the short term.
Uh, so what do YOU think is better about the monetization of Warframe and Path of Exile? How does it impact you as a player of those games?

At any rate, the big picture is like a mosaic. It's made out of a lot of little pictures.

I'm thinking a lot of it has to do with pricing things reasonably. I honestly believe the prices PWE is asking for is a bit unreasonable given comparable virtual items in other games. $7 for a ship upgrade token is too much. $40 for a T6 ship is too much.

There should be a different system where it's pay4convenience rather than pay2win. The dilithium costs for some things are just plain ludicrous compared to what they give you. I'm feeling pigeonholed into creating alts specifically for farming dilithium as a direct result of the unreasonable costs for various things. Am I being forced to do that? No. Can I live without the new shiny things that I consider unreasonably priced? Of course I can. But if their dilithium costs are there to give players a feeling of trading time for money (or zen), the return rate on that time put into the game is dismal. I don't feel players are getting a fair return if all it comes down to is how many alts can hit the 8k dilithium cap the fastest.

I'm also not being given much incentive to participate and throw in if I feel the burden of "the grind", especially if I'm not seeing an end in sight. I'm less likely to give money to a company who does not have a clear vision of where they want their creation to go -- or if they do, if I don't agree with that vision. This is something other companies I feel do better with their monetization. They make it clear to the players what their future ambitions are.

My fleet is still T4 and there is no longer any feeling of accomplishment to get to T5 in my fleet for various reasons, including the fact Cryptic is already releasing T6 versions of the T5 Fleet ships we were all looking forward to unlocking... the ferver and sense of unity and goal-establishment has been gelded as a result of their monetization strategies and paywalls.

I'm alright with companies using these quick cash-grab strategies for short-term capital gain. I was even alright with it for a very long time as I knew the 'get rich quick' strategy of lock boxes would in turn fund further innovation for STO.

However, I have not seen much in the way of innovation. I'm seeing the same things I've seen and done already, but at the same price as before -- if not given a price mark-up.

The other thing Warframe does better is they're way more apologetic in the mistakes they make. If the Warframe development team makes a mistake that affects something directly related to players spending money, they typically compensate their players for their mistake instead of making them swallow it.

At Cryptic, I get the opposite feeling. I get the feeling that because their development team does not plan ahead (or for the long term), that players aren't allowed to either. This was most recently emphasised with the retirement of the Risa Pearls and Q Photos in exchange for the new currencies. Problems that have persisted for years, yet aren't addressed until recently understandably sours the relationships to players who have the foresight that the development team doesn't have.

I'm also seeing that in the 'bug' with the Embassy 'special projects' where you could throw in a few thousand dilithium for a cosmetic upgrade that was never really there. The projects couldn't be cancelled, and that dilithium did not affect the fleet, other than turning it into fleet credits for personal gain.

This also includes things like double dipping, which I've criticised Cryptic for on multiple occasions. Simply repackaging a jackpot lockbox ship like the Shesar dreadnought with a new specialization focus without the ability to exchange an old one is quite simply wrong, given the amount of zen/dilithium or EC pricetag placed on those 'grand prize' ships.

Cryptic's policy for mistakes they make is that the players have to pay for Cryptic's mistakes (including mistakes that directly involve money spent on the game) -- unless the outcry is so loud that they might be forced to issue a non-apology or some other meager form of reparations. If a company does that because they feel morally obligated to, rather than because customer opinion is forcing their hand, I'm probably going to be more willing to do business with that company.

Stephen Ricossa has made some real progress on that front (even if it isn't perfect, but nobody bats 100), and I see the potential for more ethical decision making at Cryptic. But unless that potential is tapped, it's the same song and dance each update.

I think I've been fair with this criticism, and I like to think I've been patient in waiting for Cryptic to distance themselves from the short term gain, and minimal effort for maximal profit. But it's an addiction. When you see that kind of cashflow, it's hard to say, "I don't think we need to be receiving that much money."

But if you want to foster a warmer relationship with your customers, sometimes sacrificing a percentage of your profits for a clear conscience and a positive response from your customers is worth it.

What I'd like to see is a way to 'test fly' your ships before you buy them. Maybe on a 'test fly' map with different enemies. Let us set it up how we would if we'd bought it and then test drive it out. If we don't like it, we take our stuffs back, put the crappy stuff the ship comes with back and then not buy it.

If this makes any sense. It's what one of my friends told me that she wants to see. Because if she'd seen how poorly she flew the scimitar then she would have never bought it.

Thats kinda what I meant...albeit something more simple. Have a simple beam or cannon set up, you choose and from the ship buyer, you can do to a small test map with a few enemies spawn for you to check out the ship. Nothing major...just to see if you like how it moves.

Yeah, have options to try out like other weapons, consoles, etc. Only they would be demonstration-only and would go back into the 'selection' screen when you're through.

Just let us test-fly them to see if they will fit with what we want.

    Hi folks!

    1) Please fix Defera Invasion Zone bugs and update art in there.
    2) More endgame content; stuff to do.
    3) Minigames (poker).
    4) Dynamic PvE Battle-zones, where player choices effect outcomes differently.
    5) Romulan Sci ship.
    6) More art and things to do on Earth, New Romulus, Qu'nos.
    7) Less grind, more fun.

    Thank you!

I'd like to see less whiners in the game crying how this and that are OPed and prove they are to lazy to learn how to build ships or learn tactics.
The other thing I'd like to see is another player feedback thing like the FedCarrier for future Klingon ships so we get some decent looking ships for a change. The pilot and Matha were a nice breath of air but the rest not so much. Not commenting on the T-6 varients of existing ships but meaning the fresh sheet of paper ones.

Know all of these have already been requested by others. But I really support these.
I don't care what reason other people give for these shouldn't happen. This is just a wishlist.

    1. More Crossfaction Access/Teaming. We are at peace. Not a temporary ceasefire or temporary agreement. PEACE! Why can't we access eachothers places? Heck, I also wanna see Crossfaction Fleet options, I love playing and flying my KDF character and ships, but my friends mostly play FED side, so its hard to get the KDF fleet stuff up.

    2. Return of the "Replay Featured Episodes" for the special rewards.

    3. Return of other special event rewards. (Worf Sash/Beard/Hair. Shotgun. Anti-proton torp... and other one-time rewards... I am seriously tired of havin to explain and let down new people, that they can't have all the same awesome items as me, and they got access to less overall content that me, simply cause they joined later. Also same thing that kinda turns me away from making new characters, got items I don't use on current character, but I would love to use for a concept on another.)

    4. Bring back retired ships/Don't retire anything else. (Seriously stop removing content.)

    5. Return of chance to earn the Annorax, as that ship currently is no longer available. (kinda the same as 4)

    6. All faction ship hull textures available for the faction ships. (meaning fx, any fed ship can use the type 6 and type 7 hulls textures as long as you got it for one ship, same for KDF and Rom with KDF and Rom textures.)

    7. Return of Voyager Bridge for sale in Zen Store. People shouldn't be forced to buy a large ship pack for them.

    8. More uniform options from the show. (Doctors coat, MACO uniforms, Hats and helmets...etc...)

    9. More rank pins aswell as Titles to match them. (Provisional ranks pins, Enlisted ranks pins, Fleet Captain rank pin.)

    10. Option to be addressed as selected Title instead of ingame Rank. So anyone that is Fleet Admiral but wants NPCs to address them as Captain, only gotta select the Captain title.(Noticed a lot of people asking for this. Doesn't sound like a bad idea IMO.)

    11. KDF missions that focus on the other enemies of the Empire. So Klingons can still maintain a Warrior culture and at the same time be at peace with Feds and Roms (The Klingon Empire got a huge space, and thier borders line up to other places other than the Federation and Romulans.. who is on the other side of KDF space? who do they fight there?)

    12. T6 KDF alien ships (Orion, Nausicaan, and Gorn. Also ships for Letheans and Ferasans.)

    13. T6 Fed alien ships ( Vulcan, Caitian, Andorian...)

    14. Suliban and other aliens for Rom faction?(as well as thier ships)

    15. Better hair for the cat races.

    16. Better hair for Klingons, Nausicaans, and other races with high forheads. Overall, more forehead showing friendly hair. (Nice big topic here: http://www.arcgames.com/en/forums/startrekonline#/discussion/1192191/klingon-hair/p1 )

    17. Gorn are still missing the "Mass" and "Physique" sliders they were given when they got the new models. This bug have been around since season 7 now, I think. I would like them back as the other slider options hardly change the Gorn body.

    18. Option to delete Tovan Khev. I played the missions from start to end. He isn't importen anymore, he serves no point being on my ship.

    19. More Feedback/News from Devs about upcoming content and progress.

    20. More customizable interiors options for ships and fleet starbase. (doesn't have to be "select where each chair/potted plant is"-style, just diffrent premade stuff would do.)

    21. Romulan Bridge Pack.

An option to convert T5U-T6 would be nice. (I'm not holding my breath, however, since I know selling T6 ships is lucrative for them)

Applying T6F discounts for those who have already paid for T5F ships would be nice, too- I'm not going to pay for another 5 fleet modules just so I can get maybe 1 extra console and a few more hull points after already buying the ship and 4 fleet modules previously.

Some marketing "genius" already screwed up the system with the balance of T5-U/T6 and we see the results of this- pretty much a cash-grab versus residual income decision, IMO.

Just thinking about your idea. Not sure if this would even be doable for the developers, but...it definitely has money-making potential. First, they would be able to continue to sell T5-U upgrade tokens to get ships to T5-U status...then, once the ship is at T5-U, they could sell another upgrade token that would get it to T6. It might have more money-making potential than selling T6 ships outright because any T5 ship could become a T6. This idea would also effectively extend the T6 lifespan. Not bad!

All that having been said...I'll be happy if we see the next story arc/episode for Season 11 within the next two weeks. I'm thinking the good folks at Cryptic are hard at work and strapped for time.

this idea could be interesting for the devs with a T6 upgrade token for all the old ships, they could spend more time at create ships, totally new. this would be more exciting for them, than always doing the same ships with minor changes. (like the T6 mogai, the "new design" is a joke; a job done by someone who was bored lol)

I'd upvote "sell upgrades to upgrade T5U to T6". However, this would mean they would have to make a T6 of *every* T5u ship in the game. It's taking long enough for T6 versions of stock ships, let alone Tal Shiar/Vauduaar etc.

Agreed- however, it would/will take a lot less time than waiting for Cryptic to introduce new ships, given their proven track record of this. Sooner or later, they're going to need to bridge the gap- building a new system on already "broken" content does not resolve existing problems, after all. I'm also in agreement with those who don't want a "new" faction introduced, they need to be focusing on fixing the existing issues, like continuing to flesh out KDF and possibly split Romulans into their own faction rather than bringing in yet another "half-finished" faction with little to no content.

Cryptic has proven time and time again that introducing "flashy new content" will indeed get them short-term sales- but it's also short-sighted and not a good business model unless their intent is to milk as much as they can out of the game before they eventually fold it up. For those who've already spent and invested in a lifetime subscriber account I'm sure they/you can see the urgency in addressing this model.

Bottom line is we don't need "moar ships!", but rather for them to continue to develop what already exists so it's solid and they can move forward with really nice introductory content in the future, IMO.

    1. more bridge options for romulan warbirds that does not hold a grudge against non-romulan races like current one does....
    2. possibility for fitting romulan stuff on "Alien" Boffs when captain is romulan
    3. total makeover of dilithium refinement system
    4. moving zenships from zenstore to dilithium store like original ships used to be (when done properly it should not reduce PWE income but will be a totally more player friendly)

well apart from more bugfixing that would be all "wishes" of mine :P

a real ennemy, I'm tired by all these space clowns (I don't speak about the players).

    - iconians -> space clowns, even ridiculous (The devs have destroyed, all the mystery and the interest for this specie)
    - klingons -> federation pets, always the same dumb attitude and the same uniforms since Archer's era
    - undine -> space clowns
    - Terran -> lol; "fear the Terran empire"; thx for the laugh

and the list is very long. Each time that we have a new ennemy who could be very interesting, the story is always written to make him, coward, ridiculous, stupid, or worse.

Good idea. The special Level 15 crafting can use more options. Also, they should either increase the odds of picking up Gummare from the R&D Requisition or introduce other Doffs that can also craft them.

Another thought is a few very special projects at the Master (20) Level should be introduced.

Finally picked up Gumarre after running the R&D Requisition for what feels like 50 plus attempts. I've been slowly increasing my schools to Level 20, and agree that special projects for 15+ and 20 would be pretty cool.

Oh yeah another thing I'd love to see is a complete spin off of PVP to Redshirt as an open battle ground where anyone can fire on anyone at any time a real free for all and that anything done to the ships and gear in PVP have ZERO effect on PVE. That way the PVPers get thier own little payground and don't bork things up for PVE.

The things I want to see in STO are not related to the storyarcs, but cosmetic / gameplay related changes:

    Shipwrecks
In battle, NPC and PC ships should generally not blow up, but become disabled wrecks. A mechanism similar to ground combat should be used where disabled players have the option to request assistance or respawn.

    The "bench"
Related to the first point, rather than players respawning with no penalty with the same ship - we all have a hangar of ships. The quick "no penalty" option on being destroyed in space should be to reinforce the battle with a ship drawn from the players own hangar rather than bringing the same ship back again.

    Use "The bridge" while traveling
Yes - I know the technical reasons this can't happen. But without fail, everyone I speak to who knows Star Trek, and has played this game, they all comment that we should be travelling from system to system using the "ground" bridge view.

    Revamped PvE Alerts
The alert system throws up a couple of very low level encounters. A more advanced Alert system would attempt to complete PvE queues by showing players Alerts linked to PvE queues that the player has filtered for. This resolved the problem of players queuing up for queues way ahead of time and bailing when the queue finally dings. Players who sign up for a queue alerted this way will wait perhaps 30 seconds for other players to queue (or not).

    Boff <-> Doff equivalence
Bridge Officers should have an associated Duty Officer card, and be usable and Duty Officers when not given a bridge assignment. Likewise, duty officer assignments that reward bridge officers should "promote" one of the existing duty officers to bridge officer.
Bridge Officers that have been offered but not accepted would be represented as duty officers that can be used in the duty officer system to generate duty officer assignments to write a skill book.

    Simple Skill Cycling via Boffs
It should be possible to train Boffs to have a simple list of boff skills, AND to be able to slot a Boff as a skill (or to assign a keybind to each of the Boff's).
Triggering a Boff will make them choose a slotted skill out of their configured list. Obviously their list would encompass skills dragged and slotted from other Boffs. This would mimic the capabilities of the more naive keybinding systems, while being far more accessible to less technical users.
