I didnt think much of the torp when I got it but after reading this and trying it out I am loving it especially on the valiant.

Does the shild drain scale with torp damage or mark?

The shield drain scales with Flow Capacitors skill and whatever equipment you have that buffs it. The torp damage scales by Mark and your Projectile Weapons skill.

The third piece of the set out tomorrow (either beam array or dhc) looks good, and the 3 piece bonus is great for those than run phaser.

To me it seems the drawback is that you would have to wait for your 2nd spread to benefit from this shield drain, and most likely the enemy would be dead before then. Or does it drain instantly/simultaneously with the first hit?

The shield drain is as soon as the first torpedo hits, then stacks on top as others in the spread / HY hit from the same volley

I equipped just the torpedo launcher on my Fleet Yamato last night in place of the Ferengi Missile Launcher. That character is running Elachi Disruptor Beam Arrays so the bonus for the two piece is not relevant. I switched out FAW III for TS III. Ran the obligatory Mirror Invasion and did the Badlands Battlezone. Terrans were dropping like flys when the spreads hit.

My current build for this puppy is a sci pilot raptor for gw and twisty-turny shenanigans

Double Ap dbb fore with the neutronic and the phase quant, with the ferengi launcher as a proc engine; beam array turret and gravimetric torp on the rear (with the ancient set warp core for the 10% ap bonus as the rest is dedicated to generic torp consoles to boost the grav and ferengi launcher too)

current plan of attack: Fly headlong, spread neut/phase (usually phase, but either is good) while BOing (incase its a neut spread more than anything) then when flying past, launch a gravimetric just to finish the job with its grav shear proc (plus the grav torp is boosted by the rear arc attack powers

edit: After thinking about it a little, I altered my original ap torp/phase torp build...it was nice, but the neut is just that much better

that's pretty sweet. I'll give it a try.

The trouble I'm having is the global cool down between my gravity well and tykes rift. I built it on my Scryer drain boat.

I've got my flow as up to 390. IF I upgrade my remaining four science consoles and conductive RCS console and the new console to epic I'll have like 405 but I'm only getting 3200 drain from the torpedo even at MK XIV UR and with the 2-piece bonus. What am I missing? The new terran set doesn't add that much drain does it?

I haven't hit the max in that picture I posted. I'm pretty close to it, but I need to make some upgrades and spend some dil to get there.

It's still somehow 20% higher than mine. Would you mind reposting that list you made for how to have the highest flowcaps possible? I must have missed something along the way.

I moved my build to a Vesta (eng variant) and had more success as the higher turn rate makes aiming easier.

Elite Scorpion fighters go well as they will nuke anything with no shields with HY plasma torps.

Not even really spec'd for flow caps, more for CC but it seems to work well enough. I also found that Focused Assault tac ability works well here too as you can mark a target and if you hit it with a full spread with the phase torp it's shields are down instantly and the boosted damage everyone else gets kills even big targets (like the command cruisers) in seconds.

We really need a T6 Vesta... the current offerings just don't offer enough tactical skills for an adequate torpedo boat or else sacrifice too much science.
  • sheldonlcoopersheldonlcooper Member Posts: 4,042 Arc User
I tried it on the pathfinder. It's a real nice torpedo. I leveled to 14 red raspberry and compared it to gravimetric and biomolecular. It compares almost equally to my gravimetric which is very powerful.

I expect to replace the bio torpedo (the entire 3 piece) when I get the terran torpedo as it lags way way behind even with several good radiation buffs.

I'm finding it hard to decide which torps and consoles to slot now there's so many good ones and so many set to get bonuses from!

Terran rep torp 2pc is a must have, AMACO the same, then there's the 2pc for this torp and the 2+3pc for the grav torp.

    Too many choices!

Just a quick heads-up here, we're making some changes to the functionality of Quantum Phase Torpedo and how it interacts with Torpedo: Spread.

As many of you are aware, a Quantum Phase Torpedo Spread currently triggers a shield drain AoE for each torpedo which hits a target. We've changed how the Quantum Phase Torpedo Spread works to only trigger off your main target for when you fired the spread. Once the change goes to Holodeck, you'll see Quantum Phase Torpedo Spread trigger one AoE, centered around the main target. This AoE will have a 4km radius and significantly improved damage compared to the standard shield drain AoE.

We're making a similar change to Kemocite-Laced Weaponry, where Torpedo: Spread will only trigger one Kemocite Explosion for each torpedo which hits the main target. The spread-based Kemocite Explosions will also deal increased damage compared to the Kemocite Explosion from a standard torpedo.

These changes are partly for balance purposes (in a target-rich environment these abilities were rather out-of-hand), and partly for performance purposes.

The functionality of these abilities with other Torpedo abilities is unchanged.

I'm unsure how to respond. While Kemocite definitely needed to be reigned in this, at the same time, could severely punish science ships.

I'll reserve judgement until I see numbers of course.

I'm wondering if it would make more sense to dump the AOE component and just let it drain from each target it hits...

Hmm, i'll refrain from truly commenting until I see what it looks like in game.

This is a real boost to torpedoes so don't nerf it just because people actually find it useful. On thing I like about it is if I don't have all my targets in one place I can strip their shields and then mop them up with other weapons. It's particularly useful when you got fast movers like those mirror escorts that spread out fast without a grav well to pin them down.

We'll have to see though... :|

This is probably going to force a lot of people to have gravity well to make the damage even close to the same. Which sucks if you have a ship that can't use it.

Torpedo builds have always worked best on science heavy ships and this just reinforces that.

Will the individual torpedoes still trigger shield drain directly on every hit though? I'm not so bothered about the AOE, and the boost to the primary target is good, but I don't want to lose the individual direct drain every torpedo deals to its individual target
