i've had some hopes it will be a pretty looking, highly mobile risian science ship, as we did have an escort and a cruiser before, now i just highly disappointed. i bloody hope at least you'll introduce the t6 defiant soon.
Defiant
RnD and upgrade needs less RNG. Less lottery. Something has to change.
It isn't shorter. 35 days is the base length for these events. Extensions come on top of that.
And...looks like my prediction about the begging for extensions starting on day 1 was wrong. The begging has already started a week before the event.
The initial announcement of 35 days was indeed shorter. Last year's event was 42 days at initial announcement and the year before's was 49 days at initial announcement. The alteration of the end date makes this year's event the same length as last year's.
This is an MMO, not a Star Trek episode simulator. That would make for a terrible game.
My thinking exactly. I'm pretty sure the Nandi is going to be a T6 D'Kora. Wonder if it'll have all the same amenities, and/or if it'll expand the interior at all. It's a bit... cramped in my Dabo room.
If that's true, my Ferengi captain may be very, very happy and may be switching ships very, very soon.
Waiting to see the stats and the pics before I decide whether to send him to Risa.

It makes me sad that as a newer player I'll now never have the chance to get these neat older ships, I just missed out on getting the Samsar as well. Maybe a better reward for doing the summer event would be a token that could be traded in for a ship of your choice wether its this new warship or the ones from previous events. That way people could get the one that most suits whatever their characters specialisations are, Rather than than something that will sit in the hanger collecting dust.
Not sure why anyone is complaining about this year's event ship not being a sci ship, this is DPStrek online afterall and sci ships don't fit with that theme. Unless you have one of the 2? 3? builds that actually do reliable damage and one of the sci ships that can work with those builds.
But yeah, more clothing exclusive to one map? And a ship that's most likely going to be as butt ugly as the D'Kora and Na'far? It's a bad joke. A t6 Corvette would have been infinitely better, and would have been something to quell the unrest from all of us who see the retiring of the event ships being done before the summer event this year instead of after as a terrible move that only serves to further alienate the playerbase.

Given the 2-piece set bonus for the Risian consoles, a Science Ship would have been perfect to round out the Risian ships before rolling back to the Corvette for a T6 update next year. Likewise, the highly mobile part does keep with the theme they established for Risian ships in general, with both the Risian Corvette and Risian Luxury Cruiser having rather nice mobility. Oh, and there's the whole 2/3 of the factions in the game have no T6 Science Ship (partly because they chose to half-aft the Intel line for the same 2/3 of the factions in the game) thing too.
So yeah, disappointed by the lack of a highly mobile Risian Science Ship this year.
On the other hand, I am interested to see exactly what the Nandi Warship is, since we don't actually have anything more than a name and originating species. While the whole "a rose by any other name" thing might apply... we could be getting something closer to Betty White than the flower most people would expect upon hearing that phrase. Basically, my roundabout version of saying it might not be a D'Kora, even though the Nandi Warship shares a name with a specific D'Kora.
Lol, I see a good profit opportunity thanks to the shortening of the event.
It hasn't been shortened. It's scheduled to run from June 4 through July 16, plus (if any) extensions resulting from server issues (they don't announce those unless/until the biological waste excretions collide with the air circulation device). It's just that several folks earlier on hadn't seen Trendy's update...
With each passing day I wonder if I stepped into an alternate reality. The Cubs win the world series. Donald Trump is President. Britain leaves the EU. STO gets a dedicated PvP season. Engineers are "out of control" in STO.
Just finished reading all 23 pages... Lotta mixed reactions.
Per next generation the d'kora was both a transport and a warship. And the ferengi do have other ships not shown on screen but discussed, such as the casino ship. I imagine the nandi might be something similar, where it can raid and protect itself, but also be a merchant vessel.
Cryptic probably watched TNG season 1 and figured that probably counted as canon too. :P

Hrm? *checks calendar* Oh next thursday, even though shows up on the May calendar. Meh. Still want info, at least to know if its going to be a cruiser, fast escort, or middle-of-the-road destroyer.
War is bad so bad with the heralds in town the risian hospitality association is now a weapons smuggling ring. This just screams canon Star Trek if nothing else does lol. Although I am not sure why someone would grind for 3 weeks or whatever to win a garbage scow.
What this event says to me anyways basically if you are a Star Trek fan, mmorpg/sto veteran, or both that we are doing everything we possibly can to get you to stop playing our game because we have made too much money and our bank accounts can't hold any more lol.

Wait we had Risian escorts and Cruisers, so why no science vessels or carriers?
Actually, on reflection, it makes perfect sense.
The Risians might have had concerns about their cruise liners and fast yachts being too vunerable to piracy and the Borg in past years, so it would make some sense for them to agree to the Consortium's plans to redesign them as pocket warships without giving up their original roles entirely.
But this decision was no doubt controversial on Risa, whose culture is one of acceptance and peaceful enjoyment of being. The argument for protection of those coming and going from Risa and the establishment of a corvette to defend the system probably swayed the majority to accept the necessity in the turbulent current times, but trying to push additional ship development towards Science vessels (except for a hospital ship, what use do the Risians have for anything like this, especially one designed to make tearing apart space easier?) and especially a Carrier (ok, how do you swing a ship designed to operate attack fighters to a society that prizes non-aggression?) would probably hit a brick wall. The calls of 'aren't those corvettes we built enough?' would probably be loud enough to generate surfing waves at the Resort.
So, in retrospect, I am actually happy with this decision. Risa is not Andoria, nor even Earth. The two classes of Risian ships probably pushed the limits on what could be even close to rationalized, even with the Iconian threat, and I don't see them putting more into combat classes. The idea they might rather go to other producers of ships (the Consortium, or even the Kobali for their new cruiser-class ships) to aquire additional assets seems more reasonable than a complete Risian battlefleet of carriers, cruisers, scout ships, escorts, and destroyers (which is where this would have to lead after five Festivals if no one called a halt).
Not to say I am happy with the devs retiring the two Risian ships -before- the event, but that boat has sailed. I am simply saying it restores some measure of immersion to have the ship this year be offered by the Consortium vendors on Risa, but not actually -be- a Risian warship.

The carrier itself couldve been used for recreational as in it would launch figates of racing corvettes or a wing of interstellar jet ski racers.
But once we the players get our hands on it thats when the potential as a warship comes out.

Probably by doing the same thing like last year ... "Flying High" every 20h ...
You're supposed to finish it with "this years currency" ... so my guess would be "Yes"

It would probably be like the T6 Jem'Hadar Attack Ship.
Maybe they'll switch to a model where they update the lockbox ships via events and then offer them for Lobi after the event ends?
Ferengi Nandi Warship
8 weapon slots (4/4 or 5/3)
4 or 5 tactical consoles slots
~ 14 turn rate
200 - 500 crew
Bridge Officer Stations:
Commander Tactical
Lt. Commander Pilot
.....
.....
.....
=> not a T6 D'Kora ... at least not with similar BOFF Seatings ... since the Marauder is basically a (Battle-) Cruiser ...

same could be said for a dreadnought  :P
that made me lol

I know! Isn't that the weirdest thing in the galaxy? Not only that, a Ferengi warship?!!
What happened, lolz.

I agree on awarding Risian prizes during a Risian event.

I,for one, enjoy the idea of a ferengi ship. Will there be any new activities at the beach this year?

In other words, as long as your weapons are sufficiently advanced you can be as hippy as you want.

I so wanted racing jet skis in space this year
